  1. 100% honest; I am eating Carbs. Right or wrong I vomit so much toast became my go too for something. ( yesterday I vomited 4xs today already once just trying tunna with mayo to make it wet...1T and with in five min it hurts and there I go. I know...tuna for breakfast yuck but I didn't want to cook) ill wait till dinner to try again. If I vomit, ill wait n eat toast this is my average day. I will try to put protein on the toast if it feels ok. Can't say I need a new dilation as I'm gaining weight! Good lord that would be worse . No, I'm not drinking enough. I'll check that one...that's easy task to handle. Depressed and happy if I get dressed so no I am being lazy, laundry is a major hooraa right now. I have a hyper thyroid. No, I did not make a mistake its hyper. My meds are to make it NOT hyper.....side effect weight gain. Now I think its likley water....so ill tackle that first. Tomorrow is my weigh in (my own ...Thursday is my day) we will see how it goes. I lost my job after the op and complications. Sooo its just been a stressful month. Trying to pick a focus. Trying to get well quick. Fund for letting me vent
  2. I lost a big chunk of weight in my two weeks pre op and my first 4 weeks after surgery. I started eating solid foods and the scale did not move for two weeks and I am actually gaining weight back. 3 pounds so far. Am not eating too many calories. Is my honey moon stage over???

    Update Pics!

You know, I just started about a week ago but seldom because its been linked to weight gain. I was doing th sf monsters but it would take me all day to drink and I would dehydrate. Though crystal lite raspberry lemonade. Sooo good!! I like to mix it in a bottle and stick it in the freezer until it starts to freeze. Good and refreshing.

As Of This Morning, I Now Weight 160 :(

I just re-read the post and realized you had a band slip....did they remove your band or put it back in place? are you filled or unfilled? Guess, getting a fill as I suggested may not work if you are having problems with the band. I can say that when I had that weight gain, I couldnt get immediately in to see my doctor, so for several weeks I counted cals/carbs and measured my food so that I could stop the weight gain and get control of my eating. Those tips the others have given are so awesome too....drink Water, herbal tea, broth, sugar free Jello or a popsicle, fruit n cheese....something light at night if you still feel hungry. Sometimes when you think you are hungry , you are really just thirsty and water should do the trick. Maybe also do an inventory of your feelings at the time you decide to snack...am I just bored? am I eating a snack out of habit? am I trying to make myself feel better/satisfied in someway? am I really "hungry"? It sounds like you did alot of work to lose all that weight and kept it off all that time...I'm sure once you put your mind and heart into it, you can lose the weight again. And just think, the weight you have gained is really nothing in comparison to what you have lost in total. Believe in your self!

    So Here I Am

So here I am… I’m finally getting around to starting my blog on here after lurking for a few weeks… commenting on a few posts and making a few new friends (virtual ones if nothing else). We all have a story right? How’d we get here? I got here courtesy of an angry failed (I guess you could call it the black sheep of the family) thyroid and a b!tchy thin doctor who told me I just needed to eat less and walk more as I packed on weight (my underactive thyroid was discovered YEARS later by another doctor when I’d finally given up – she was reviewing the old lab results). It’s been almost 7 years since it started failing and I’d be lying if I said I wasn’t still bitter… I’ve gained somewhere between 80 and 100 pounds since then. I’ve lost as much as 50 of it and gained back nearly all that I’ve lost. About two years ago my doctor told me to have surgery (she had Lap Band in Mexico before it was approved in the US) and I joined Weight Watchers instead… I was convinced I could beat my thyroid if I just worked hard enough… I worked hard for my less than a pound a week losses only to find that when I stopped WW I gained it all back! Last year the same doc told me that at 29 years old, I was prediabetic , prehyperlipidemia, and that pain I was having was degenerative joint disease because of my weight and I had to lose weight immediately… Less than 10 years before that I was in the military! Needless to say I dieted a ton after that and regained everything immediately when I stopped… This past winter I was doing a couch to 5K program (not losing weight though LOL) when I contracted pneumonia which was not a fun mix with my asthma. After the pneumonia was gone my asthma became severe and the steroids to keep me alive caused even more weight gain. As my medicine cabinet became more and more full between the asthma and other conditions I realized I can’t keep going like this and my doc was right two years ago – If I’m going to get to and maintain a healthy weight I need to have surgery and if I’m going to see my daughters become adults, I need to get healthy…. So that said, here I am. I’ve done everything and now I’m waiting on the insurance company and a date. I’m here for support and to be someone’s support. In my life I’m strong for everyone and I always have been and the downfall of that is that for the first time I need people being strong with me and for me and I don’t have that.
  7. I had a similar problem with gaining weight right after surgery, I flipped out about it. But I've figured out (from reading many posts) that it was from a lot of different reasons, us women have hormonal changes and that can cause weight gain, retaining water which comes with that causes you to gain weight, and not having a BM will really mess with your system. My husband is on the low carb diet, I read an article that says if you actually add in carbs 2-3 times a week you will actually lose more weight than if you had 0 carbs. Good luck.
  8. So I am currently down 73lbs...honestly can't believe it myself but it feels amazing! I went from a size 18, if I was lucky, to wearing anywhere between a 12-14....lord only knows how long it has been since I have seen that size! I have had an extremely positive experience with vsg and would do it all over again if necessary. I am loving my self again and starting to gain my confidence back to where it was before the massive weight gain! I was lucky that my recover was so quick and my three small incisions are basically gone....bikini body next year!! I a truly thankful every day for this surgery, it has changed my life! i am also very thankful for the continued support I get from my friends and family Prep op: 258, surgery day 5/7/12 weight: 249, current weight: 185

    Weight Loss, Periods, Mirena

I had been cycling birth control pills for years with out periods. Then when I started losing alot of weight (now at 153 lbs lost) I started getting periods again and they were irregular and long. I went to my Gyno and she put me on the Depo. I was doing ok with that, besides the weight gain and nausea the 1st few days after getting the shot and my periods were becoming normal. Then I made the decision to have a tubal ligation so that I could stop using birth control all together. Well, here came the irregular periods again and frequent too...like 1 every week or two. It was awful! My Gyno put me on the Ortho Estra patch to regulate my periods. It has helped, but here I am using horomones again. She suggested an "Abulation" procedure and also said I am Pari-menopausal too. I am considering the procedure because I do not want to continue using horomones..I have had a blod clot before and heart disease runs in my family. I am scared of having a stroke too. So I really don't want to continue using something that could cause me to have serious medical problems. Uggghh....so frustrating!

    Numbness In Toes?

Hey guys at the gym now on my favorite machine the elliptical of course! ! I get on here at least 4x a week for 35 minutes. I am still pre op and just wondering if anyone experiences this. For the past 4mo the first 3 toes on my right foot have been numb. I asked my PCP about it and he says pinched nerve. The real reason I'm nervous is because after my c section with my daughter I had Bels palsy (temp paralysis to the left side of my face) it lasted for 2 months. At that point I lost all taste on the left side of my tongue and mouth. (I think getting the full taste of food back definitely contributed to my 60 pound g Weight gain. Anyways luckily things are back to normal despite my toes. I'm nervous and surgery is coming up soon. My shoes fit fine just wondering if any of u had this and if the feeling came back? LOL thx Sent from my SCH-R720 using VST

    March Roll Call!

Hi all, any March sleevers having a stall? I've been stalled for a full 2 months with slight weight gain. I eat everything I'm supposed to and exercise regularly. I picked up jogging and can now run a complete mile (huge milestone). I was wondering if any of you have reached a long stall and what you did to overcome it. I am putting myself back in liquids tomorrow but I dont know if it is going to help. Just looking for a few success stories to get myself believing that this is not a permanent stall!

    Question?

I didn't have hairloss or Vitamin deficiency (although they didn't actually do bloodwork to check early on!). If she is not keeping anything down, even shakes, that is a sign of a band slippage. A year out, she should be able to eat food too, but the band is a fickle and harsh mistress, so much depends on how much fill etc. Oddly, weight gain often happens with a slippage too. She needs to get herself checked out - endoscopy for starters. It could be serious because what happens with a slip is it can slip so you can't consume anything - not even Water - and then you wind up with emergency surgery.
  13. Prezo & wallflower, Great to hear good results. I am only 5-ish days post op and I have not had to take my Lantus at all or my Humalog. Sugars are holding stable. Once my food intake & food types increases I expect to start the Lantus at 5 units & step up as needed. I've been in a lot of pain but I am thrilled not to have to inject 115 units every morning. Since my pancrease was damaged from other health issues I was wondering how I would do post op. so far I am thrilled. Oh and to the main question of this thread. Yes, loosing weight is more difficult for diabetics. That is one of many fundamental parts of diabetes. Even with well controlled sugars it's still difficult. Often folks with diabetis also have other health problems that will contribute to the difficulties in loosing weight. One of My problems is I am unable to work out at the levels I use to loose weight because of herniated disks (back surgery soon). That lack of exercise & eating too much = weight gain. I had lost 70lbs before my back injury & gained that and then some back. I have had a very healthy diet for the last 10 years. Room for improvement...absolutely. Eating too much is my other problem. No matter how healthy we eat too much of a good thing is bad. Wow...I think I have babbled on enough waiting for the pain mess to kick in Night ~Manda

    5 Weeks Post Op

Hard to be just a lil over 5 weeks ago, I was riddled with nerves wondering if I was making the right decision to have surgrey. Today, I know having the VSG was the best decision I could have made for my long-term health. It has re-engergized my motivation to work out and already so much of my confidence is being restored... Last week, I blogged about how I was bothered and now I guess I realized I am hurt that my ex-boyfriend had not acknowledged my weight loss. Well I talked to him about it and how that makes me feel. I am not sure what I expected to get out of it because I as reflect on the conversation, I am not sure he ever said he has noticed I lost weight. In fact, I do not realize much of the conversation, only that I walked away from it unsatisfied with his response. But life goes on... On the positive side, though my ex is not noticing so many other folk are noticing my weight loss and it is really a good feeling. I met up with friends over the weekend and none of them knew about the surgery and so I was worried about addressing the weight loss and not drinking. Well the not drinking never came up because I kept a cranberry juice in my hand and they only had good things to say about my weight loss...No questions as to what I was doing but just that I looked good...I also have began to see the weight loss in myself. When I was smaller, I always thought I had a long, giraffe neck so I hated my neck. Well I notice that giraffe neck coming back and I have never been happier to see it... And I am also noticing it in my midsection...It doesnt stick out under my boob like it used to...Shirts and dresses fix so much better...Yayy... Oan: Despite the warning against tomato based things because of acid issues, I thought I would give chili a try. Bad move. Other than the protein shakes that i grew tired of, it is really the only food that I have reacted bad too. Other foods have made me feel bad but more because I ate to fast and not because of the food itself. So for now, I am not doing tomato based because I already have enough issues with heartburn. I am pretty much able to eat most things. I went to our farmer's market this past weekend and ate fried noodles...It was just about a cup but still I know I was so out of line. It made me work out harder. I got mile 3 mile walk/run jog done in 43 minutes. I started out at 60 minutes... I am so happy that my stall/weight gain from last week did not carry on into this week. Last week I picked up two pounds by the time of weigh in. I actually picked up three pounds by Saturday evening. But today I am happy to report I got those pounds I gained off and then some... VSG 08/17/12 HW 232 SW 227 (5'8) Last Week 210.4 CW 205.4 ... It may be ambitious but I am going for 199.8 by Friday's weigh in. I am already down to 204 today so I gt 4.2lbs to make it happen. I am going to push the workouts and stick to high protein/low carb for the week. I want Wonderland...I want Wonderland...and with it so close it makes me go even harder for it.
  15. Thank YOU, ladies, for the helpful comments. To answer the question: What do you eat? Truthfully, not the right things; I've fallen off the wagon. I don't do Protein first, even though I know I should. I've been eating slider foods (ice cream, crackers) and not enough veggies/protein. Cowgirljane, I think your dietician had good advice. I need to go back to the smaller portions. I need to stay away from the binge-trigger foods and start drinking more Water again. I know this; I just need to do it. Supersweetums, two years out and you're maintaining! That's awesome. I love to hear that. Your changes certainly sound livable and probably what most thin people who haven't been sleeved do. We are overfed in our society. I have no doubt that a lot of my hunger is head hunger. I just remember the first few months it was so EASY; I was rarely hungry at all. I was on that losing-weight high. And pre-sleeve I would gain weight so quickly (5 pounds a week was a real possibility), so it's true that the sleeve is keeping the weight gain in check. And I'm probably not eating as much as I was (it's hard to remember) - I just know I'm eating so much more than four or six months ago. It SEEMS like I'm eating so much, but I bet it's still not more than maybe 2400 cals/day (I was eating 1000 a couple months back, however). I am starting the 5-day pouch test tomorrow; I've done it before and it works for bringing me back on track.

    October Sleevers! Announce Yourselves

Hi everyone, I am scheduled with Dr. Ortiz in Mexico on October 8. I am having revision surgery and am one week into my pre op diet. I am a guy, 45, currently weighing in at 220. I lost almost 80lbs with my lap band and then when I was only 10 lbs from my goal it started acting up. My weight has been on the rise since. I am looking forward to reversing the weight gain and finally reaching my goal.
  17. I am in the process of insurance approval to have a revision from Band to RNY. I have had my band for seven years. I have been very lucky to have not had any complications, no slips ect. My band is unfilled now, because i never did get the 'sweet' spot, either to tight and things would come back up or I would revert to soft high carb foods, or too loose and I can pretty much eat anything. I had my surgery for the band in Cincinnati Ohio, (I live in Indianapolis) The surgeon Dr, Trace Curry was excellent, I do think traveling back and forth for fills ect did hinder me getting where I needed to be for my fill to be right. But no matter what the band was not going to help most of my medical issues. Since the band I have lost and gained the same 30 to 40 pounds. Now at my heaviest. And the band did not help any of my medical problems. I am hoping the RNY both with the smaller stomach and mal absorption and the actual surgery itself will help with my uncontrolled type 2 diabetes and insulin resistance. I am so sensitive to insulin that I swell and ache all over but I have to take large amounts to keep my blood sugar down. It is like I am on a merry go round, hurt, can't exercise, can't exercise, gain weight, blood sugars out of control, more insulin, can't breath because of severe asthma and copd, need steriods about once a year, higher blood sugars, more weight gain, can't exercise, and around and around we go My hope and prayer is that this surgery will add years to my life that I can spend with my children and grandchildren. I need to GET a life, because what I am doing right now is not living.

    Rny After Lap Band Removal

  19. I got pregnant 2 months after getting banded. The only fluid in my band was what it was put in with. I always had good restriction with it. I lost 30lbs. Iam 12 weeks now and I fluctuate between 0 to 1 lb weight gain. The last thing I want to eat is lab band friendly food. My stomach just don't want it. It wants pasta and bagels and that stuff is making me very full and sick after 3 or 4 bites and I ended up vomiting. It's not ideal but that's my story. I'm hoping now that the 1st trimester is coming to an end j can get back to my normal eating

    Too Much Protein?!

Too much protein can lead to weight gain according to my NUT
  21. I am kind of scared of this. I have a prescription for nuvaring in my refrigerator, but my weight loss already feels slow - I don't think I need to set myself back by starting on it and gaining some back. Has anyone started nuvaring post-op and not had any weight gain/stalling?
  22. I'm considering getting banded (yay me!) But my body can be very frustrating some times, most recent example was gaining 8+ lbs in the span of 3 days (not it's not Water weight.) So it sparked the thought - I'm not sure how I'll handle GAINING weight after being banded. I'm curious if anyone gained a significant amount of weight in the first year and how much? Did you get it back off again? Thanks for any feedback!

    Who Are You?

Hi I have read through most of this thread and I don't think I have posted on here before . I am 32 and have been married for 8+years.I am a mom of 3 as you can see from my username lol.My children are 4yrs,5yrs,and 7yrs and I have 2 step kids that reside in another state but come to visit not nearly enough. I am a Military Spouse my husband is Active Duty Air Force for over 17 years.I am also a Nurse but decided in 2007 to stay at home until my youngest starts school at least and then I will further my own education with hopes of becoming a Nurse Practitioner:) I love to travel one of my favorite places to go is Monterrey Ca (I am from Northern Cali).I love seeing other countries I have lived in 4 different ones. I have struggled with weight since my early teens but it has been worse since I had my first child but not from pregnancy weight gain for some reason I seem to be a post pregnancy gainer :/ I am 5'2 and was at my all time high of 234 last November and got down to 212 while my husband was deployed but since he returned I have ballooned back up to 225 or so and that is just the latest yoyo.Like others I have tried about 20+different diets.I had been considering WLS for a while and decided on the Sleeve in June and I was hoping to be sleeved in October but due to an undetected thyroid issue I had to put on thyroid meds and need to wait until my levels are stable. That being said I hope to be sleeved by No later than December but hopefully much sooner:)

    Birth Control Post Surgery? Nuvaring?

I was on the Depo shot pre op but didn't get my April 2012 one since I had to be off it for surgery. I just started back up on the shot today. I spoke to Gyn and she said it can cause weight gain but the iud didn't work for me before surgery and at my age the don't like to put you on the pill. If my weight loss stops or stalls alot these 3 months coming up I guess I will switch to another method. Sent from my DROID RAZR using VST

    Sweet! I'm Diabetic!

My total cholesterol isn't too bad at 181. I was very happy to see my HDL at 53 when it was once 17. Dexter, your post gave me visions of The Hurt Locker! I am sure this is all related to my massive weight gain. I was the picture of good health just a couple of years ago when I lost a bunch of weight (weight that I put back on).
