    2years out and already gaining

I am almost 4yrs out and started gaining at 2.5 years out. DOS I was 346 my lowest 210 never even got to goal. On September 30,2013 I was back to 257. I had a revision done on September 30,2013. I hope with the revision I can make it to goal. You have to really want to change forever and I didn't. After 2 years I could eat everything. I tried to get back on track but my pouch was so stretched it was hard. I will keep you I'my prayers.
  2. Hi I am new just joined up. My name is Roxxie and well my Lap Band is almost 4 years old now and due to some problems I am now seeking a revision from the band to Gastric Bypass. I will be turning 60 in a few months and it is harder for people my age to lose weight or to keep it off. I lost over 100 pounds and re gained 16 back in a year, not good but who knows why for I sure don't
  3. I added you to my friend's list, and sent you a comment on your profile with the link to my blog on here for you to peruse. The hair loss thing is temporary. The post-op liquid diet is max 2-4 weeks, and full liquids include pudding, yogurt, oatmeal/hot cereals (thinned out), Protein shakes with milk, so it's only temporary as well. Gastrographin is a contrast Fluid that is used for leak detection and it's colorless and flavorless, it actually tastes like flat unsweetened sprite (in my opinion), kind of like when you get a soda and the syrup level is low so it's all icky tasting, it's not horrible and it's a small amount. I only had drains because I had a leak repair post-vsg revision from the band they are more cumbersome than anything, not painful, just annoying. Urinary catheter never had one. Dumping is pretty uncommon. A lot of us that experience issues with sugar, or high fat have been able to pinpoint it down to high milk fat. My issue is butter cream frosting, and fondant. Other than that I can pound back the Reese's Peanut Butter cups without issue LOL. One good "lie" about VSG surgery you can use is, "I'm having ulcer surgery". It's post-op is really similar to VSG, lots of liquids, lots of sipping to let the stomach heal. The first 2 weeks are typically the most difficult. Exhaustion, and fatigue are common due to lack of calories, and general recovering from major surgery. The more walking, sipping fluids the better. Best wishes in your research.
  4. I can't believe it! I have lost 69 lbs. My goal was 90 by now, but I think I've done pretty darn well and that I'll get at least to 85. It hasn't been an easy year. Some of you know what's been going on. My husband's been ill for more than a year, and he got so sick in August that my band literally froze up, and I've had problems ever since. I've had 3 unfills! I am proud of myself for being a "responsible bandster" and getting unfilled when I was way too tight instead of trying to ride it out. I am grateful for lining up good aftercare BEFORE being banded Mexico. I am happy I chose Dr. Ortiz & that he's been in constant touch w/my doctors here to resolve my stupid nutcracker problem. I'm happy that I've been a positive example for my daughter. I think I'm doing better with medication and looser fill. A looser fill makes me more aware of what I eat. And believe it or not, I'm happy that I've lost so much weight that I have to have my abdominal surgery (related to my mastectomy) revised to remove the majorly buldging stitches and that it will result in a tummy tuck. That's why I might have to stop at 85 lbs.; if I lose too much I will bulge again. What a problem to have! On that subject, I am happy that my plastic surgeon, who will perform that surgery, is so amazed by my weight loss. I've taught him (and my internist) that bypass is not the only successful WLS. Surprisingly enough, when I saw him the other day, I brought along a detailed image from of a banded stomach & the port location so he doesn't damage it when he "peels back" my previous surgery. The area is from just above the pubic area to just below my belly-button. He said, "Karen, I know where the port is, I've helped some other surgeons re-position them". That really blew me away and gave me peace of mind. I'm grateful for the past year and in light of people's recent problems pray that I will be able to keep my band. Besides marrying my husband and having my two wonderful children, it's the best thing I've ever done. I'm happy that I've made friends on this board, and I'm very grateful for your support and encouragement. Thank you.

    Hello

Hello I’m new to this app. Going to have my revision March 1..
  6. When I first got my band I was 325lbs. Up until about 280lbs I hadn't really felt that bad and considered myself a 'healthy' fat person. As I got closer to 300-325 I started feeling worse. I got banded, lost 127lbs and stayed happily between 200-225lbs for about five years. However, I had constant reflux and heartburn from the band. About a year ago I finally had enough and had some Fluid taken out of my band. Holy crap did I gain weight fast!!! I went from 213 to 293 in less than a year and felt miserable. Gaining weight at the rate of 10lbs per year allows your body to adjust and get used to it but gaining 80lbs quickly made me feel like I was trapped in a fat suit and couldn't get out. I'm now having revision surgery next week on Tuesday, June 7th and I cannot wait! I'm so excited. I just wanted to share a brief synopsis of my journey and encourage anyone out there that is unhappy with their chosen weight loss surgery to never give up!
  7. Well today is exactly 2 weeks post op for me. I vowed to only weigh once a week on Wednesday's and today was my day! I lost 5 lbs this week which thrills me. That is the most I have ever lost in a week. I am 211 now. Yah me! I still have my G drain in. It is a total pain but since I was a revision I understand why they did it. It has to stay in another 2 weeks at a minimum. So much for my recovery on the beach... I need to start walking more it has just been so hot. I might go join a gym next week so I can walk on the treadmill. Onederland here I come!!
  8. Hello GSPTians I am Pranjala from India. I am 27 years old married and am a mother of a 3 year old. I have been fat for as long as I can remember. Obesity runs in my family an so does diabetes. I stand 165 cm tall, weigh 100 kg and suffer from NO co-morbidities so far. I have done several successful weight loss attempts in the past, but few slacks here and there and my weight would always come back crossing the last highest point. I have always loved to exercise but now that I have grown so fat my body doesn't seem to cooperate. The only place I lack is that I am a big foodie with a huge appetite, if I control it I can conquer my battle with the flab. Before comming to this forum I've already had appointments with a couple of surgeons, what left me insecure was the fact that even before evaluating me physically or mentally properly they put me under the category of "suitable for sleeve". But as a matter of fact, I am dead scared of the fact that a part of my stomach will be taken away which has always been a part of me( I am actually sentimental about it); and that staples can (and will) cause scarring over time which may arise a condition for a revision. Anyways, I then came across GSP. And this forum is loaded with so many encouraging stories. Not many surgeons in India do this procedure, and so they tell me its a potential failure (even before it has hit the markets properly). I don't want to believe them blindly, as some doctors have a money mincing attitude(plication is definately cheaper). I just want to know how long can the sutures stay in our system ie. the sutures might give in after a certain period of time(would that require a revision too?). Staples vs sutures what is more acceptable to the body? Can there arise a condition like suture replacement in the future? Will I face any nutritional deficiencies or any food intolerance or dumping syndrome or massive hair loss or wrinkled skin(as I have seen in a lot of female sleeve cases)? Can I do stomach exercises like crunches or breathing exercises after plication? Will there be sever pain after surgery due to the peristalsis of gastric muscle, if yes then for how long? My quarries might sound funny but if you do the needful by throwing some light on them, I will be more confidant with my decision.

    Research study

Somebody posted this link in a thread and i couldn't find it again - so thank you! I think it is a great article and should be read by people considering WLS. I am 2.5 years out from a revision band to sleeve and that article made so much sense based on my experience. Band (when filled) - I had a very small food capacity but I couldn't tolerate the reflux. I also honestly couldn't tolerate the very small capacity either and it drove me toward sliders (my responsibility not blaming the band). When I revised to the sleeve I was surprised that eating was so much easier say 3 months out then it ever was with the band. I didn't think about it that I could eat more quantity /capacity then I had with a filled band but it is true. I think for me that is one reason I have been so much more compliant with the sleeve, I can eat salads and veggies and dense Protein without feeling discomfort or pain. I get an "absence of hunger" sensation after pretty small quantities, but still more than I could consume with a filled band. I had the band for 10 years, most of that time with "no fill" due to my issues with it. I think that might explain why some people do really well with the band and struggle with the sleeve after revision because you can eat more. Anyway, there is alot more to the content of this article, but that particular piece fit my experience.
  10. Heading to Tijuana on 4/20 for revision surgery. I am going it alone...just curious if anyone else might be headed that way!

    2 step revision

I am a 2 step revision. My band was placed in 2010 and was a problem from the start. My surgeon is removing it this week. We will wait 12 weeks for things to heal and revise to bypass in June.

    Hairless after surgery

I didn’t notice but then again, I shaved my head at month 3 post op VSG. I did however notice lots of new prickly hairs the month after I had my revision (9months post VSG). It didn’t bother me too much just felt weird growing back in. I do take hair skin and nail gummies most days and my hair 8 months from shaving is now between ear and shoulder length and my hair had always grown slow before surgery.

    *~Finally got a computer at home~*

Wow! You are quick at answering! Thanks:D I think that is where I was confused about the cc's. It makes more sense to me that the larger volume of saline solution they add the tighter the restriction. Thanks for clearing that up. That's awful about the old ports! Now that you mention it, I think my surgeon mentioned that problem to me when he was showing me the Lap Band. He said something to the effect that this was the "new" kind. I didn't understand the significance of it until now. How much of a process was your port revision? Was it done as surgery or just under local anesthesia?
  19. Had you dilated your pouch? Congrats on the revision..

    Starting Pre-op diet

Hi, I had to do a milk and yogurt diet for 10 days prior to my band op and again for my revision. I found that the best way for me to cope with it was to have a complete blow-out the night before of my favourite takeaway and then I was sorted and my head was in the right place to get on with the pre-op! I had milk for Breakfast, milk for lunch and milk for tea. I didn't have much yogurt as I can't stand the taste or consistency but I did have the odd oxo cube to satisfy my cravings for savoury. I heated the milk up, whisked it like mad and had it with coffee as a Cappuccino, I drank whenever I felt hungry or had a craving, I let my family prepare their own meals and went upstairs whilst they ate and did everything I could to keep occupied and not thinking about food. I was also mindful of the fact that my liver needed to shrink for the op and that my surgeon would know if I hadn't stuck to the diet and would possibly cancel as a result. I kept this in mind all the time that by doing this it would make the op easier and safer to perform. It's not easy but just keep thinking about why you want this op and that you are going to succeed. You can have a moan on here anytime you want and we will all support you! Good luck!

    Bye bye band

I had my band removed and revised to the sleeve but had to wait 6 weeks before the doctor would sleeve me. I was afraid I would gain weight although I had already done that with the band. I didn't gain any weight in fact it felt like I still had the band. I trust my surgeon. So if he said I need to wait then I needed to wait even if I didn't like it. I knew a lot of people that were had their band removed and sleeved same day. My surgeon told me my stomach needed time to heal.

    New & Revision Is Scheduled!

I just had my revision surgery on September 10th. It is very different than the band. You literaly can not eat beyond your full point. Right now I am up to 4 oz of shake at a time. It really is a glorious feeling, and the thought of not being able to overeat again is wonderful I wish you all the best and no worries: you will do this with the band!

    Question

Hi Everyone This is my first time message so I wasn't sure where to post it, but I figured I would try here. Long story short I was banded at the end of July. I had a lower BMI and have lost 40 pounds so far and am more than half way to my goal. I had to have two revision surgeries due to excessive burping, which has been fixed due to a new band (so thankful!). I had the realize band put in a little over a month ago. These past few days I have been experiencing severe port pain. It is very difficult to bend over and go from sitting to standing or visa versa. If I even move the wrong way a little bit I get a very painful twinge. I know it is common to be uncomfortable with the realize band port in the beginning, I just wanted to know if anyone has had an onset of more severe pain a few weeks after. I did see my surgeon today and he does not seem to be concerned about it. He checked for infection and said that I don't seem to have one, but obviously to come back if I develop any of the symptoms (I already had an infection so I know what to look for). He also said that my body is healing from the three surgeries in a short period of time. I trust him completely and I do think it is my body just getting used to the hooks in the muscle, but was hoping to hear from someone that had a similar experience and has advice as to how to make it feel a little better because it is pretty painful. My other question was to see if anyone had any granulation tissue at the incision site. After the third surgery I had an infection. After it went away I noticed a hard scab on my bellybutton. Once the scab came off I realized that I had what looked like a hard sac of Fluid covering my bellybutton. The doctor put silver nitrate on it and said it was granulation tissue that had pushed out through the incision. He said the silver nitrate only works in 30% of patients and that if it didn't work it would have to be removed. I was so nervous because I did not want to have anymore procedures. Luckily I went back today and it has reduced so much. The doctor put more of the silver nitrate on and said to monitor it, but it should disappear. I just wanted to know if anyone else had granulation tissue at the incision site because I have searched through the threads and haven't really found anyone that has. Sorry for the randomness of the questions. I am in grad school and don't really have anyone else to relate to about this. I just want to be back to myself as soon as possible and really appreciate any advice or helpful info anyone has Thanks!
  25. Hi all.. my name is Wendy. I had the lapband surgery on 05/31/11 and had done really well until about a month ago. My highest weight was 286 and my weight as of Saturday was 141. I started throwing up blood about a month ago. My stoma was becoming eroded from acid reflux. Long story short, I ended not being able to hold anything down and got really dehydrated. I ended up having an emergency revision this past Monday. I am unfamiliar with the sleeve. Can you tell me some of your experience with it?
