I would have if they'd made eye contact! They were so studiously NOT looking at me that they missed my expression, which would have made it pretty obvious that I absolutely understood what they were saying. I didn't say anything at the time because Korean has mostly optional pronouns, so technically they could've been talking about someone else (they were not) and I do not want to get into a Korean argument with a nail salon ahjumma. Today's NSV was going into the office in the middle of the day, and tons of people were in for a sales meeting, so I got the pleasure of: being stopped on my way into the lobby because the longtime guard didn't recognize me; getting stopped at the front desk because the longtime receptionist also didn't recognize me; and being repeatedly blanked by coworkers who took a full three seconds to register who I was. One of them entered a meeting room I'd booked, apologized extremely politely, then came running back in when he realized it was me all along. It's INSANE.

What is your most embarrassing NSV?
Sleeved36 replied to Sleeved Nurse's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
Not embarrassing, but definitely an unpleasant NSV. As I have lost weight it has revealed that I have varicose veins in my legs. So my pasty white legs are smaller now, but . . . . . .😫 Guess they have been there for a while, but encased in fat 🙁 -
What is your most embarrassing NSV?
Frustr8 replied to Sleeved Nurse's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
I have a confession, not exactly a NSV, but hear me out. The last, time I was at the Bariatric Clinic I looked around. And yes, most of , if not all, looked over weight. But some v were more misshapen than me. Now I have put myself down, called myself Elephant, clumsy, fat even stupid. Really I am none,of these. And although I am a BIG girl, I do still have a shape. I still can walk, although slowly with a visible limp, there were ladies and a couple guys who were wheelchair bound because their legs no longer will hold them up. And I felt, a little pride I was speaking mine before that happened to me, because in a year,or 2 gaining like I had been, it could have happened. Now I know and I believe with surgery, I stopped the the slide into furthur ill health. But I cried and prayed for each,of them it's not too late for them, that someday they will have NSVs I know I will and it won't be long before I will report some really NSV because, you know now I do believe in me and what I can accomplish. -
NSV - Hemoglobin A1c and blood pressure
FluffyChix replied to RapidFirePickle's topic in Weight Loss Surgery Success Stories
Congrats! Those are outstanding NSVs!! -
My latest nsv isn’t much but it means something to me. I can’t really see change in my body but my measurements are shrinking and clothes that used to fit tightly fit and are actually fitting looser 😊

NSV - Hemoglobin A1c and blood pressure
RapidFirePickle posted a topic in Weight Loss Surgery Success Stories
My Hemoglobin A1c a year ago was 8.3 with four diabetes medications maxed out. Three and a half-months post-surgery I am on the lowest dose of ONE diabetes medication and my A1c is 5.6! A year ago I was at 130/90 with three blood pressure medications; I am now on ZERO blood pressure medications and have a BP of 116/70. This is the best thing I have ever done for my health, and I am so glad I did- 5 replies

Fat Tax on Plus-Size Clothing (but almost exclusively on women's clothing, not men's)
TakingABreak replied to Born in Missouri's topic in General Weight Loss Surgery Discussions
I know I'm getting in here late, and probably too far along in this discussion, BUT.... I agree and disagree with the cost of plus size clothing for men and women. First off, it does cost the manufacturers more for the fabric and labor. Secondly, I think it highly depends on where you shop to see a discrepancy between the cost of regular sizes and plus sizes. For example, Lane Bryant and Torrid are very pricy stores. This could be equivalent to a Ann Taylor Loft or White House Black Market for smaller women. The problem comes in to play that plus size men and women don't have the less expensive clothing store options, for example, like an Old Navy (with the exception of shopping online). And that brings me to another point, why is it that plus sized people are inherently forced to shop online if they want selection? Matt Z is right, the men's section is slim to none as well. Why is it that the plus size section at Target is TINY and mixed into maternity, that is even TINER? Don't these retail stores know that the average US woman is a size 16. And don't get me started about undergarments for large women. When you can't find your bra size anywhere but Lane Bryant and have to pay $50+ for one, GIVE ME A BREAK...I mean unless you want to order bras online, *rolling my eyes again* Needless to say, no longer being a plus size woman is the BIGGEST NSV there is. I'm glad I don't have to struggle with which stores will have my size, or pay extra for those clothing options. -
NSV I want to share - I went out for brunch with friends on Sunday morning and I ordered a healthy little side dish even though I realllllly wanted a big ass omelette. But I made a commitment to stop eating out as much and to only order something really small if I have to eat out. I'm really proud of the choices I've been making lately!

Questions about your experience with the Sleeve
YeahOkay31 replied to KymmerShimmer's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
1. What made you choose the Sleeve over the Lap Band? Lap bands have a lot of long term complications 2. Have you had Hair loss with the Sleeve? Yes. 3. What can you absolutely NOT eat now with the Sleeve? Salmon, Tuna 4. At what point did you know you made the right decision with the Sleeve surgery? Less than 4 months out, so no verdict yet, but I am down 66 pounds already since surgery. 5. What as been the best tool you've used in keeping your weight loss progressing? The sleeve itself. Not so much the limiting capacity because you can still graze--but most of the time, I am just not hungry, And a scale. People love their NSV and more power to them--but numbers don't lie. The scale will always keep you honest. -
Have you purchased any goal clothing for after surgery?
RHCD replied to Ylime's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I bought one shirt prior to surgery that I now fit in (just posted about it in NSV). I bought a second shirt while traveling a European women’s 12 (stunning white silk) that I have hanging up where I can seen it daily. I might not be able to fit into it until after I deal with my bat wings (the slowest lace I’m loosing). -
How are the May sleevers doing?
HopefullXOXOXO replied to QueenEB's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
I'm very happy for all of us. There have been struggles and learning curves along the way, but we're all headed in the right direction. YAY!!! From surgery date 5/3/18, I've lost 36 pounds. I lost 10 pre op, so 46 total. I know others have lost more but I'm happy with that as I've had a lot of NSV's myself. I'm very grateful for each and every one of them! The BEST one is that I'm able to move more easily and can breathe better. That alone is worth it. Plus, I'm 65 and was told my post menopausal metabolism would make it more difficult to get weight off. My nutritionist still hasn't given me any calories goals or protein goals. ??? Only 60 ounces of liquids daily and eat protein first. I'm glad I have this forum as I've been getting the 800 calories and at least 70 grams of protein a day that I've seen suggested here. For whatever reason, the nutritionist I have is practically useless. All in all, I'm happy with my progress so far. I do hope that, even if it's very slow, I'll get at least 30 more pounds off. We'll see! -
How are the May sleevers doing?
SueperGal replied to QueenEB's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
I'm officially 3 months out and everything feels so much easier now! The first month or so was definitely rough. The struggle: I still haven't quite hit 800 calories a day and I am supposed to be stepping up to 1000. I am hitting my 90 g protein goal, but the struggle is on every day to up those calories. I started losing hair about 2 weeks ago. It is a lot. My weight loss is completely inconsistent week to week but going down overall. New NSVs: I went on The Hulk (Rollercoaster) at Universal Studios . Not a modified seat, a regular seat!! I was able to clip in the seatbelt myself! This is huge for me since last time I rode I was in a modified seat and had to have two guys come press down the chest harness to clip me in. Then I gained another 20 lbs and couldn't ride at all. My social anxiety is starting to go away. I went into a crowded restaurant this weekend and was not freaking out the whole time about taking up too much space or having to walk past people. I adjusted my office chair to move the arm rests in. -
That is exciting and impressive!! Thanks for sharing your inspirational NSV!!! I can’t wait to feel healed enough to start C25K! Jogging/running and doing races is one of the things I’m most excited about on this journey!!

Guys... (and Gals!)... I can run. Like one of those fit people you see running on the side of the road. Except the fit part of course. But still I’m RUNNING. It’s been years. I knew I missed running, but the absolute feeling of accomplishment I have is insane! Now admittedly I can’t do it for very long, but I’m okay with that! Today I ran 2.12 miles in 30 minutes. Not impressive to normal joggers but for me that’s AMAZING. I am having a very proud NSV and I hope everyone else is having a good night!

I weigh myself every Friday morning--the weekly anniversary of my surgery and at special milestones like month anniversaries. I was getting obsessed, weighing everyday, multiple times a day. I am not a big NSV girl. I need to see numbers go down to stay motivated. But I am slowly getting control of the compulsion.

I have a bit of an annoying NSV. I keep getting my kids clothes mixed in with mine because now my oldest and I are wearing the same sized shirts and work out shorts and stuff...

OMGosh, I consider it an NSV that Texas doesn't list your weight on your driver's license!

I went shopping Saturday and bought a pair of size 20 jeans! Before starting this process, I was a solid size 28. Day of surgery I was a 24. I remember holding up the size 20s and saying, “no way are these tiny things going to fit big old me!” But those suckers fit like a glove! One month post op and I can’t wait for the NSVs to keep coming. 😄

I'm almost 3 months out, and I've had a few NSV the past few weeks. I took a 40-minute run and didn't want to die. I actually felt like I could have kept going. I learned how to swim after 19 years because I finally felt confident enough to go to the pool. My (very thin) best friend asked if I wanted to have some of her clothes because she's moving and needs to cut down on her closet. Everything I tried on fit me! I had to buy size medium shorts! (I was wearing 3x at the beginning of this journey). I'm very happy!

I had to go to another building for work today. I’ve been to this other office before; the last time was right before surgery. Well, the office chairs that they have there are more narrow than they are at my office, and in the past it’s been an issue. The arms of the chair would dig into my hips, which made sitting very uncomfortable. Well, today I sat in one of those chairs, and there was no digging! I was able to sit very comfortably! Yay!

Incredible success! I loved reading your post. Especially you visiting Israel and all your NSV's. You look amazing. The big question is, did you get a tattoo? -
So today I was trying on jeans at the store. I literally have no jeans because it’s been summertime and I’ve been wearing shorts. Well now my shorts are all huge on me. Anyways I fit in a size 11 comfortably today. When I had surgery in Feb. I was in a 20...
