  1. I am 3 weeks post op met with my nutrionist today for the 1st time since my surgery and she is starting me on soft foods next week. I have to say that I am so sick and tired of protein shakes and just started yogurt this week. Does anyone else feel the same as I do? There are those who think I have taken the easy way out to lose weight but we all know that is just not the case. I am thankful for the protein shakes, they do take away any hunger but still I am at my witts end.
  2. I had my surgery 16 days ago. When whenever I eat, unless it's clear liquid or yogurt, I get indigestion. For an hour after I eat, no matter how finely pureed, chewed, soft, or whatever it is, or how small the bite, or how many times I chew, I get horrible indigestion that feels like I have to throw up. Everything feels like it's stuck in my chest, not even in my stomach. I still have to walk around, and a half hour after I eat when I'm able to drink I can push it down it bit, but it stays stuck for a good hour. My girlfriend usually has to rub or pat my back until I can burp, then I feel better - I feel like an infant. How long does this horrible side effect last? I have to eat, but the indigestion is so bad it makes me not want to eat at all!

    Eating the same meals

What do you like? Try fish, tuna, turkey, cottage cheese, Greek yogurt, etc. My Breakfast this morning was Greek yogurt with fresh raspberries. Yesterday for dinner I cut up some tomato, and added some tzatziki sauce, a little feta, Kalamata olives and mixed it into cottage cheese.
  4. I’ve been exactly the same. Just can’t do the purée. I’ve been sticking with yogurt, cottage cheese and popsicles. I’m almost one month post op. Wednesday is 4 weeks and I’m hoping I’ll be more motivated during soft stage.

    Scared about starting 'real' food

Hi Carol, Tomorrow will be Day 10 for me and I will be able to start soft/mushy foods. I am not scared, but I know I will be very careful introducing new foods to my band. The foods my surgeon suggests for the soft foods stage are: cream of wheat, scrambled eggs, cottage cheese, yogurt, creamed soups, lowfat cheese, boiled & mashed potatoes, soft cooked pasta or noodles, sugar-free pudding, canned fruit, soft cooked veggies. I hope this is helpful. Don't be scared, just take it slow and enjoy!
  6. Had the VSG on 10/24. Was doing fine, until today. Woke up with severe reflux. Eating yogurt didn't help. Drinking water made it worse. Spoke to surgeon's assistant, finally, and was told -- ready for this -- I'm not eating enough. First time in my life I've been told that. I've been "eating" Greek yogurt, about 4 teaspoonfuls at a time; drinking protein shakes, about two hours to get down 4 ounces; a little bit of chicken broth; and water. Anyone have any ideas what more I can try to eat at this point. I don't get to introduce food until around Thanksgiving.

5 years out need advice please

Way to go! You are getting your head back in the game. Success is the sum of small efforts repeated day in and day out. I never use the bariatric store. When you deprive cravings, you want them more. Are there better options that you can buy for sweet and salty cravings? Hope others can jump in here and help with healthy sweet and salty snacks that are more cost effective. make sure food advice fits your food plan.. Sweet: Plain fruit, fruit dipped in sugar free cholate syrup Salad greens, chicken, strawberries, blue cheese and pecans Skinny girl raspberry vinaigrette. Dannon lite n fit Greek yogurt sugar free popsicles Roasted pumpkin and apple drizzled with sugar free maple syrup. sprinkle with cinnamon, (small amount with your protein goes a long way) Salty: Veggies dipped in hummus (cut calories by mixing plain yogurt in hummus) Chicken fajitas or taco salad (no tortilla) Parmesan cheese crisps Cup of chicken broth.
  8. This is a good place to start: http://www.bariatricpal.com/forum/1055-pur%C3%A9e-stage-2/ Also try the search box in the upper right for "pureed foods" "pureed recipes" "favorite purees" -- stuff like that. It's a pretty frequently discussed topic. I'm lazy so I am just going to copy and paste an earlier post I made: I was on full liquids for four weeks after surgery (and true liquids, not this "yogurt is a liquid, pudding is a liquid" stuff). So after four weeks of that, pureed meat tasted great to me! The trick for me was to puree it with a flavorful sauce, NOT broth, stock, or water -- then heat it up in the microwave with some cheese melted on top. It tasted just like a casserole type dish. I mostly used canned meats, or the meat you can buy in the little single serving pouches. The flavored ones were especially good. Some of my favorites: thai spicy tuna pureed with sriracha sauce and pepper jack cheese melted on top chicken pureed with bbq sauce with cheddar cheese melted on top lemon dill salmon pureed with tartar sauce shrimp pureed with remoulade and pecorino cheese melted on top turkey pureed with peanut satay sauce and jack cheese melted on top chicken pureed with marinara sauce and mozzarella cheese melted on top turkey pureed with light chipotle mayo and sugar free pickle relish and Laughing Cow chipotle fresco cheese wedge melted on top teriyaki salmon pureed with teriyaki sauce (I don't recommend cheese with this but if I had to, I might try some blue cheese) Good luck!
  9. Can I have regular yogurt while on liquid diet Sent from my HTC Desire 626s using the BariatricPal App Can I have regular yogurt with liquid diet Sent from my HTC Desire 626s using the BariatricPal App
  10. Which brand and where did u buy it Sent from my HTC Desire 626s using the BariatricPal App GENEPRO unflavored Protein powder seems to be popular. You can mix it to almost anything. Just be careful not to heat it, since it can lose some of it's potency. You can add it to warm broth but don't put the protein in the microwave. It also mixes to cold stuff like milk or yogurt. Use unsweetened almond milk if you have problems with lactose. Nilla

  12. Can I have regular yogurt while on liquid diet Sent from my HTC Desire 626s using the BariatricPal App Can I have regular yogurt with liquid diet Sent from my HTC Desire 626s using the BariatricPal App My doc says yes, but it has to be without fruit or other additions. vanilla, key lime pie, lemon, etc. are all fine. Anything you have to stir is not ok. Sent from my SM-G925V using the BariatricPal App
  13. I have Soups and stir in unflavored Protein powders as well. I'm avoiding yogurt as I don't tolerate it well.
  14. Feeling much better today. (Although I didn't flap my arms like a chicken) I did get out and about. Of all places, I went food shopping. The smells and sights actually didn't bother me too much. I'm starting to feel hungry. I've been just having jello, popsicles, water & decaf tea. I had a yogurt, but it's not sugar free. Can not find any sugar free yogurts. The doctor allowed me to start full liquids yesterday. I would love something to chew, but honestly I can wait. I noticed I've dropped 6 lbs. I'm keeping it hush hush in the house. That makes me excited! Hope everyone is doing well... Hugs
  15. I'm 29 days out with my RNY. During the early phase, I relied on Premier Protein shake, EAS Myoplex and Oikos Triple Zero Yogurt for protein. Still using a combination of them to get an early boost of protein to start my day. If I use the Premier Protein Shake and an Oikos Triple Zero Yogurt to start my day, I have just taken in 45 protein units. If I use the Myoplex, I drink 1/2 in the morning and 1/2 later in the day with an Oikos Triple Zero Yogurt and it gives me 36 protein units to start my day. Hope that helps.
  16. watch the sodium in the canned Soups. are you cleared for pureed? "having a bad time?" I was recovering in a 25' RV post-op so, trust me, organization was not happening:) I drank a lot of Protein drinks and strained cream of chicken, egg drop, broccoli & cheese Soup, FF pudding, cottage cheese, scrambled eggs, Greek no-fat yogurts that was flavored (no fruit) at first. I couldn't stomach the taste of the SF popsicles or Jello. Made me wretch every time
  17. I am feeling really weak today. Hard to focus and just lethargic. I have been drinking my Protein shakes. I have been drinking Water. I have been eating my sugar free Snacks like pudding and yogurt. Is this jus my body going into ketosis? Also I have been taking my multi Vitamins and sub lingual B12 Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App
  18. I guess everyone is different. My sister had her gastric bypass surgery around 15 or 16 years ago. She can eat, but still has trouble with certain foods such as ketchup, ice cream, rice, and yogurt. And she said pasta fills her up extremely fast. My mom on the other hand had her surgery like 13 or 14 years ago and pretty much can anything except for rice regular sodas, and ice cream.

    Update on me..

Oh you are a hero to be back at work!! I have been more tired in the last few days than ever. I know it is because I am lucky if I get in 100 calories a day and I too am having protein issues. I have found that beneprotein mixes well with diet hot chocolate so have been trying that. Greek yogurt is great too if I can eat it - seems like anything I eat takes away from my fluid time and it is so hard to get it in. I can start eggs/chicken/tuna and soft cheese tomorrow - looking forward to those calories!! Hoping I can get my fluids in! I can take a pretty big swallow now so it can be easier but I feel like I need to have an uncapped bottle in my hand the whole time!!

    Nsv!

LOL I know exactly what you mean about opening and closing the fridge! It it becoming a challenge, I'm trying to find more choices of high protein food..I can't even look at a shake right now, and I have enough yogurt for an Alaskan winter! Oh well, this is what we signed up for, right? Have to just do it for now

    vomiting

Green Beans are horrible. I cannot tolerate them not even if they are boiled for 1/2 hour. I even tried canned. NO WAY. I also tried fish in the food processor with egg and cooked carrots. Can't do it either. I can only eat yogurt, oatmeal and apple sauce. Everything else I try one or two bites and have to stop. I top my 1/4 cup meal with yogurt. I have to eat something. I figure two bites and then yogurt is better then nothing. I find I throw up mucus. It's like my pouch fills up with it when I eat solid food (chewed to death mind you). It's like a reaction to the food.

    Pre-op Diet Meltdown!

Hi, I am on day 5 of this 2 week diet (surgery on 10-2-11 with Doctor Marema of Flagler, St Augustine hospital. He has done over 5000 bariatric surgeries and helped develop the "spider". His diet is as follows: Breakfast: 8oz skim or 1%milk, 1/2 Protein shake, 4oz fruit Mid-morning: 1 Protein Drink Lunch" 6-8oz low fat, light yogurt, 4oz vegetable or fruit Afternoon: 1oz nuts or 2 tbsp Peanut Butter, or 1/2 cup Beans or hummus, and 4oz vegetable or fruit Dinner: 4oz lean protine (meat), 4oz vegetable with1 tbsp olive oil, 1/2 whole grain starch or 1 slice whole grain bread Evening: 8oz skim or 1% milk, 1/2 protein drink, 4oz fruit 100 oz of free liquid (chicken broth, Water, crystal light etc.) Fiber and protein supplements count toward your 100 oz of liquids. Also several different Vitamins as well as 5 grains of fiber supplement are required. His nurse said I didn't have to follow the order eactly. I could adjust it to my lifestyle. I'm not saying you should do this,as your Dr knows you best. But I trust my doctor and his diet seems to be less restrictive, (I don't know what else is on your diet). Anyway, I hope this helps. Keep in touch as I am not that far ahead of you. God Bless
