While I absolutely do not agree that it’s likely you will GAiN weight on 800 calories, 800 Calories can be a pretty good amount of food depending on what you eat. for example this is 757 calories and it’s 100 g of protein. breakfast: Caramel “Proffee” made from a premiere protein caramel shake with iced coffee mixed in. (It’s really good and filling with the protein btw). lunch: three eggs omelette with 2% cheese (1 ounce) and tomatoes and onion (1/2 cup). dinner: grilled chicken breast (3 ounce) and zucchini and onion (1/2 cup). snack: oikos triple zero yogurt I use the Baritastic app and I always have the same breakfast but then before I have lunch I plug in my plan and an idea for dinner to make certain it’s okay macro wise. I do pay some attention to calories but protein, added sugars and fat are more important. I also pay attention to my carbs because on some days my exercise is higher and I actually need to increase them a bit. If your dietician is not asking about your activity and your food choices and inky giving you a cookie cutter plan without real guidance I would be asking more questions. These plans need to be tailored to you specifically. if you are having a difficult time finding foods you like that meet the criteria you are definitely not alone. I had to do a ton of research and trial and error with recipes to find a couple weeks worth of meals that I enjoy and I was doing 900ish calories. I scoured the web and found low calorie recipes and also ways to cut calories from things I knew I enjoyed. Basically type “healthy” in front of anything you like and you should find ways to make a more bariatric friendly version. Some days you may need to reduce calories further by having two shakes or egg whites instead to budget for a higher calorie dinner. I don’t love to cook so I make double batches of things and freeze them in individual portions. this has been my lifesaver. For the 800 calories you may have to do a lot of lower calorie lean meat and veggie type dinners unless you cut calories during lunch. For instance instead of 3 eggs you could do five 5 whites and you could even omit the cheese if you need to cut calories further. i would imagine you could still lose on a little higher calorie budget and you have more flexibility in your menu but it may not be as fast as you would like. Either way, check out Baritastic (or another calorie tracking app). It’s very helpful to see exactly what’s in different food and to play around with these meal ideas on an app because you can add and delete and adjust the measurements to figure out how to make things work to fit your plan.

Good morning everyone! I have to say, all the extreme pain and unforeseen issues with surgery makes me nervous hahaha. I know it’s not the “norm”, but it makes you think. Singingbarista and Hiddenroses (i can’t figure out how to tag people hahaha), I totally know what you mean about not telling people. I have only told my sister and my mother and that’s because they’ve both had procedures similar to this. I agree, in my head there’s a fear of judgment that I’m taking the “easy way out”… even if I know that’s not true… this has got to be one of the most difficult things I’ve ever done. This is a tool to aid us in loosing the excess weight that keeps us down for a number of reasons. I’m an Accountant, and fortunately I get to work remotely now so I’m not in the public eye, but when I fly down to see my family next year they’ll definitely see a big difference and I’ll have to be prepared for questions. I don’t like to lie so I’ll just have to prepare myself to tell the truth. If they judge me, that’s on them. I was given a choice on my procedures but was heavily advised to go with RNY because of the success rate with weight loss. My doctor told me that a lot of people he’s performed the Gastric Sleeve on have come back to get the RNY because of the weight gain back. My surgery is coming up on Wednesday and I’m honestly ready to get it over with. My food cravings and hunger pains are terrible. Maybe I’m not drinking enough water? I hear a lot of people say by this time it wasn’t so bad for them… ummm am I doing something wrong? Hahaha. How is everyone doing on the last days of the liquid diet? I have 4 days and counting… @Singingbarista, you have 3 days right? By the way, side note… i asked the doctor not to give me anything that’s a narcotic for pain meds (family history of severe pill addiction), does anyone think I can recover on Tramadol or Tylenol alone? Is there anyone who’s gone through that? Good luck to all, and for those of you who just went through the surgery, I really hope your pain goes away soon. -
So sorry to hear about your loss. You look fantastic though. If you do get a reduction you may want to wait a bit just to make certain your weight had stabilized. Insurance does cover it sometimes if it’s medically necessary because of rashes and such as mentioned by @NickelChip which requires alot of documentation but your bariatric dr should know what to do for that and also for back pain but I was told that they have to remove a pretty significant amount of breast tissue that may not leave you with the cosmetic result you desire to do it for back pain through insurance. It’s certainly worth doing a consult with a cosmetic surgeon though to get their advice though.

Yes I think it's good to keep this chat active as it's takes community to remain steadfast! I am there with you about the same amount of weight loss overall had surgery 4/11/24. I think my daily 4am 5 miles crazy lady runs in the mornings has kept me toned loosing. Congrats on your weight loss! -
your breakfast looks great, but your lunch and dinner, yikes 4 seafood sticks ?? when I think of seafood sticks, they are either crumbed or battered and deep fried? and half a chicken breast is that one side of the breast or half of 1 side of the chicken breast? can you cut it down to one or the other. What are you drinking? I know my weight gain and inability to lose right now is due to what I am drinking (coffee and cokes) A 7-pound loss is better than a gain, so you got to be happy with that

Ache or pain months AFTER surgery and...
BlondePatriotInCDA replied to BlondePatriotInCDA's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I've been researching (its part of what I do for a living anyway soo) this topic and have found several papers regarding pain after bariatric surgery: "Results: Nineteen of the respondents fulfilled the criteria for hypermobility. There were no significant differences between the groups with and without hypermobility regarding pain in weight-bearing joints before or after surgery. There was a significant difference between the groups with increased or novel pain in the ankles, shoulders, hands, and feet (P<.05) after the weight loss. Furthermore, the patients with hypermobility had increased or novel pain in a significantly higher number of weight-bearing joints, other joints, and joints in total (P< .05). Conclusion: Even with a small sample size, a tendency can be seen for people with hypermobility to experience increased joint pain after weight loss compared with those without hypermobility." https://pubmed.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/28274706/ I do have some hypermobility. Its a very small sampling for a research medical study, but its in line with what I'm experiencing. Also, I'm only experiencing pain in one hip (weight bearing) and my back, the rest; hands, shoulders and elbows aren't. It could just be wear and tear from 14 years of gymnastics and later on physical alterations with much larger combatants for 15 years.. So life stressing my body rearing its ugly head as I age. 😥 Either way, perhaps if someone else experiences this after surgery it will help knowing they're not the only one and give them a stepping stone to some answers. -
Slowing Down 😶🌫️
NickelChip replied to Bypass2Freedom's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
One thing I've learned through experience is that it's hard to predict what will happen next. My weight loss slowed significantly in July but then I dropped a lot in August and September, but slowed again in October and even more in November. A lot of it not really because of any major changes in my behavior, either. There's a lot going on that you can't really see throughout this whole process. I notice, for example, that my body shape changes when my weight is steady. I do try to be honest with myself. Sometimes, I know for certain I have been doing everything correctly and am not losing. That's fine. Sometimes, I lose weight and I know I did so despite making some poor choices. I try to be aware of that because it will not be as easy as time goes on (it already isn't for me!). I know that if I have things in the house, I will be tempted by them, but I rarely would leave the house to go buy something I didn't already have just because it sounded good. If I buy cookies, I may end up eating four of them instead of the two I said I would eat. If I don't buy them, I will eat zero. So, after the holidays, not buying or making the stuff is my main strategy. For me, it's all about figuring out how I want to live. I want to be healthy, but I don't want to be miserable. I'm working on being more intentional with what I eat and how I exercise. My goal now that my appetite and capacity have kind of settled into a fairly predictable pattern, is to strengthen my routines around food prepping and setting regular meal times. If I can stick to that most of the time, have a solid list of things I make on a regular basis and keep in the house ready to go in an instant, and things I do NOT keep anywhere near me, I won't feel like I need to worry about the occasional indulgences. Because skipping all holiday snacks or treats, or never ordering a dessert or a special cocktail, isn't a way I want to live! But I also don't want to lose track and let myself indulge all year because I forgot to set limits. -

Must we wait the entire year for plastics?
ms.sss replied to AmberFL's topic in Plastic & Reconstructive Surgery
i had my plastics done just shy of 14 mnths post op. i would have done it earlier (at 7 mnths post op when i reached goal) but my surgeon of choice was booked up. i had tummy tuck, arm lift and boob lift in one shot. second best decision ever (after wls, ha). if its worth anything, i understand that further weight LOSS affects the results more than further weight GAIN. but i mean, if you have the means and inclination, you can always have revision plastics if need be. -

Exercises for those who hate exercise?
NeonRaven8919 replied to OndLei's topic in Fitness & Exercise
I took up cycling about two years ago. It's exercise and a cheap method of transportation. I got an e-bike as I don't have the fitness levels (yet) for an "acoustic" model. I found it's good for knees as they can go a full rotation but without putting weight on them since the saddle takes the weight. I also agree with water aerobics. My gym used to have a class I went to, but I can't attend since it's at 11am on Monday now and I have to work. -

NeonRaven8919 replied to Mspretty86's topic in Rants & Raves
I was finally able to get in over 10k steps yesterday. I'm still two weeks post op so no strenuous activity or lifting so I have to walk to work instead of cycling. At first I was annoyed because I love cycling, but I think having to walk will kick-start the weight loss. I've lost 8.5kg (18.7lbs) in the two weeks since surgery and walking helps. -

I think Charlie Brown is the one...I can picture it! The hanging back from experiences is what gets me the most - so so many experiences I have turned down in the past because of my weight, and I am so excited to be able to subvert that! It is a powerful thing, and I know you'll get to where you want to be. You deserve to feel happy, beautiful & confident regardless of your weight ❤️ -

Thank you, Arabesque. So great to reconnect. Missed you! A crazy past few years... YES, I do look forward to the ability to dance waving arms unencumbered by weight + jiggle! The boys say hello. Any fun new outfits to model for us? Once slim new arms are healed... I do look forward to wearing these favorite cotton toile dresses with fitted arms without jean jackets. Yay! -

Don’t know what your starting weight is but 16lbs in 13 days isn’t slow. It’s more than a pound a day. Even those with staring weights of 600+lbs (like on My 600lb Life) only lose 25-30lbs in the first month post surgery and your well on track for that. I’d lost about 12lbs in my first fortnight and everyone was very happy. Please remember if you’re losing, there is no right or wrong rate of loss just what’s right for you and your body. All the best. -
I’m not from the UK but in the US we have Wegovy as well. Maybe you will have better luck with that one. I think it’s pretty much the same drug but here mounjoro is primarily prescribed for diabetes and wegovy for weight loss. Not sure if your do as well, but there are also some compounding pharmacies that can make a similar drug here. I’ve been told to just be careful with those because they aren’t regulated. Some are safe though, my doctors office actually has one they give to their patients now that is compounded it’s almost $200 US but since not all insurance companies cover it that’s quite reasonable compared to the full Price of the brand. I hope this helps

Well not sure I am getting anything yet but in my email to the clinic I asked for the appointment to discuss "cosmetic surgery following significant weight loss, in particular breast surgery" so will see what the dr says. If I do get anything I would only be doing what is covered by the national health coverage, not paying out of my own pocket. I would love a legs and arms as they are what I am most self conscious of but I know that they are painful and after all the post sleeve complications I had I am hesitant (verging on scared) to do anything.

Omg. I have a short little clawfoot tub in my bathroom. It’s a tiny bathroom and was just a builder grade tub/shower and I wanted to update it and it was cute at the time. Well I am tall so I already am too tall for it really, but I could use it whenever we put it in. At my high weight I couldn’t even get the water all around my body, though. There were parts of my body that never even got wet if I got in and then ran the water after. Now I can fit again. I still forget I have that option most times but it is nice to have a choice. -
I had gastric Bypass in 2019. I have gained about 13 pounds back, but pretty happy overall. Last year when I was laying flat on the floor and went to sit up I felt the oddest sensation. It was a pain and pressure along with a knotty feeling protrusion that popped out in my stomach right below by right ribs. I was able to push it back in. I saw my gastric surgeon, who couldn't feel anything but sent me for a CT. The CT showed nothing. However, this protrusion has happened many times since. I even had my husband feel it last time to ensure I am not going crazy. Has anyone else had anything similar? What are your symptoms and what has been done for you? Any advice? Thanks! Lynda

possible to stall after 9 day?
DaisyChainOz replied to DaisyChainOz's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I did have a follow up with the surgeon, however it was a phone follow up as he is some distance away, so no scales! He said not to worry, your body just thinks you're dying, so is holding on to everything! 😳😬 I know that's most likely what's happening! But it's just a bit frustrating.. this month, 19 days, I have just lost 1.4kg or 3lbs or so. I will try to trust the process more not get caught up on the numbers! My colleague who started way higher, but same surgeon, same surgery, just hit 40kg loss in 5 months. It's hard not to make comparisons, we talk about this a lot at work. She did have a larger starting weight though, but I know there is a window for the sleeve to do the work, it terrifies me thinking this might not work 🥺 I even had a client today tell me he has lost 20kg since Nov, by cutting out sugar!! Argh! 😧 -
my go-to fave was ISOPURE dutch chocolate flavour (its the least sweet of the *many* brands i tried). low carb, not too sweet, not powder-y feeling. blended it up with 2 tsp decaf instant coffee crystals, 1.5 cups water, 1 cup ice and 2 tsp benefibre (for regular pooping lol). had 2-3 of these the early post wls months, then 1 a day in the later months until about 7 months post. recently went back to drinking 1 a day to deal with some unintended weight loss. ISOPURE also has a flavourless zero-carb version that used for cooking...not for drinking though cuz it really isn't that flavourless, ha.
