  1. I was sleeved on 3/6/14 and am on soft food stage .I am back to work and I am following "diet plan" strictly .I am feeling a bit discouraged because I haven't seen the scale move in a week now. I am dumbfounded at how I couldn't be losing, eating only 600-700 calories a day???This is my second bariatric surgery .I had the lap band first and didn't have success. My life story has been lose 20 lbs and then, I get a major stall-I don't know what happens???I thought for sure-the sleeve would be different? Could this possibly be the 3 week stall, I have been reading about? (2 weeks pre surgery diet+1 week post surgery) I need HOPE....

    Expected weight loss

I had my surgery on Feb 4th, I have lost 12 lbs, however...i have not lost a single pound this week, feel a bit bummed out about it. I also went back to work a week later and that was fine, surprised at how fast I felt good. My pre-surgery weight was 206, today I am 194, been there for a week Not sure why, I even started walking on the treadmill every other day for 45 min, about 2.5 miles. I hope this is what they call the 3 week stall. Tomorrow will be 3 weeks. Just seems I eat such a little bit and should lose more. I'll remain optimistic though, I know it takes time, just ready to see that scale in the 180's already. Let me know if anyone has any thoughts on this. Thanks.

    Return To Liquid Diet?

Don't worry, you're just in a stall. If you search 3 week stall or 4 week stall you will find a number of posts on this subject - You are not alone! You have just hit the dreaded stall that most of us eventually get to. The weight loss WILL continue, you just need to stick to what you're doing and not give up on your body. It's adjusting to this new shocking lifestyle. You threw it a curve ball. It's just trying to make heads or tails of it. However you wanna call it, your body will go back to normal and you'll start losing again. If you're looking for more information on this, there are quite a few threads I was able to find that may be helpful: http://www.verticalsleevetalk.com/topic/47671-dreaded-week-3-4-stall-any-tips-to-break-it/page__hl__%2Bweek+%2Bstall http://www.verticalsleevetalk.com/topic/48315-stalled-at-3-weeks-and-now-at-6-weeksnormal/page__hl__+week%20+stall#entry443548 http://www.verticalsleevetalk.com/topic/47251-scaled-hasnt-moved-in-one-week-three-weeks-post-op/page__hl__+week%20+stall#entry432477 You will get through this!
  4. Hi everyone, I'm about a week shy from being 6mos post-op from VSG. I've lost about 45lbs so far but my weight loss has slowed dramatically. I haven't had a stall yet (didn't even have the infamous 3-week stall) and I'm really lucky for that, but I've been hovering at 155 for about 6 weeks now. It's really frustrating and I don't know what to do differently. I'm staying in my calories (about 1100/day at this point) and trying to stay active and hydrated. Am I just DONE losing weight at 6 months post op???! I still have 30lbs to goal!

    When are the "typical" stalls?

@@ProjectMe - I'm so glad you said that about shrinking. I've been on the 3 week stall for 3 weeks, but I AM "shrinking"!!! I think I just might stop worrying! Thanks again!

    Stall?

Let it pass. I didn't lose a thing from 7 days post til 22 days. I was enraged b/c I was self pay and thought I'd wasted all this money and put myself through surgery. Week 3 I lost 9 lbs. I guess my 3 week stall came week early! Try keeping off the scale for a week. Now that I've broken a stall each one is getting easier to handle because I know that it's just a matter of time. You'll start losing again as long as you stay on plan. Thank you this gives me hope. doesn't it just feel like forever? That's the hard part waiting for it to break. I sure hope it gets easier lol scale is away. I never owned a scale before should have kept it that way maybe it wouldn't stress me out as much lol Sent from my SGH-I317M using the BariatricPal App YES, it feels like forever! I was still on liquids and was so pissed, lol. Like wtf, I'm not even eating food and I'm not losing anything. I told my nurse about it at my one month post and she said that our weight loss isn't perfectly linear, we lose weight in steps more than a straight line. Just stick to your plan, it'll happen!

Don't think any amount of reading about it prepares you for what you feel after! Your stall Def came early just like mine too. Ah thanks for your words it's great to just feel like I'm not a complete idiot and failure lol. I have done amazing at sticking to my plan so I think it makes me expect to just keep dropping the lbs lol but no. Not reality. Sent from my SGH-I317M using the BariatricPal App

    Weight Gain

Carbs really cause stalls. Outside of the whole 3 week stall being normal. You **REALLY** need to push the fluids, your body needs water. And it uses water to process fat. So, if you don't give it enough to do what it needs to normally, fat removal isn't going to happen. Current medical research is showing that humans need between 90-110 oz of water a day... for a normal person. This is why I push the 128 oz a day number. Because if you want to process fat, you need to give your body MORE water than it needs to meet it's daily requirements, this way, it'll use the extra for fat processing. Do your best to stick to your actual diet. Straying is only going to sabotage your process. You are the ONLY person that can do this... so, do it. Yes, it's hard. Yes, it's emotional. Yes, it F'n sucks... for a while. But then, those new habits are habits and the old ones are gone. It takes 2 weeks on average to make something a habit. It can take a month or more. Just get back to doing EXACTLY what you are supposed to, suck it up and deal with the BS for a while... and then, before you know it... it won't be BS any longer. This surgery is a tool. Only you can use the tool you've been given. You can chose to leave it in the drawer, useless and collecting dust... or you can use that tool to build the new you. Carving things isn't easy, if it were, then everyone would be carving up whatever they wanted... carving things is hard and takes time and skill and effort. You are carving the new you. Take the time and effort to make sure the you that you are carving... is the you that you want to see.
  12. You're doing nothing wrong. It's something so common, it even has a name. Search in the forums for "The Dreaded 3 Week Stall". You will find a plethora of information about why it happens to almost everyone at around 3 weeks. Hang in there, it will pass
  13. First of all, you have not failed, you are just getting started. Give yourself some slack, it is a huge learning curve. A stall around the 3 week mark is totally normal. Another poster had a great article about what our bodies are doing and why we stall early out....search 3 week stall and you should be able to find it. Now, you should be following your post-op guidelines from your surgeon...600 to 800 calories is not bad and you will lose. The only thing I would say is crackers and chips are high in sodium which causes Water retention...this might explain the small gain. Plus, they are what is called a "slider" food...which means they mush up significantly as you eat them and in your stomach, thus allowing you to eat more. Because of this, you take in a lot more carbs and calories. I know you start to feel like you just want to chew something, but it is best to stick to your liquids and better sources of Protein. I am not sure where you are in your post-op, but if you are in mushy stage, you could have scrambled eggs, greek yogurt (amazing source of protein), Protein shakes, and on some diets, ground meats chewed well. Good luck on your journey and like others have said, try to relax. I know it is hard, we all want to lose all our weight in 2 or 3 months, but the fact is it doesn't usually happen that fast. Just stick to the plan and you will lose!
  14. I appreciate this post/string as I too (like Spatters3) have been thinking the past few days "I'm going to be the 1 person the VSG doesn't work for!!" And have been pretty frustrated because I am following my Dr's. diet plan to the 'T'. Have since the week prior to surgery (2/13). So it dawned on me this a.m. "is this the 3 week stall I've heard about?" At first I thought it was just because it was that time of month, so I figured I wouldn't lose any then. But seriously!!! When you're only having maybe 400 calories a day, and it's all good stuff, and you're drinking Water, walking, Protein, Vitamins, etc.........if feels like this WEIGHT SHOULD BE COMING OFF FASTER!! I know...I know... Patience Mary. I am thankful for what I've lost so far (20 #) but I must admit, this past week I haven't lost but .5 pound and it can get to you when you're watching everyone else eat all this delicious stuff you're used to but can't have now and yet still not losing. Maybe I'm gaining by osmosis....watching others eat the good stuff. Yes I know I've got to snap out of this mental funk!! :-) Crossing my fingers if I just 'stay the course' it'll start melting off soon!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Best thing so far: having control over my urge to overeat. u just can't. it's as simple as that. Worst thing so far: not really anything, unless my weak self says 'smelling the popcorn and brownies I can't have.' Note to self: MUST REMEMBER THE END GOAL. MUST REMEMBER THE END GOAL. MUST REMEMBER THE END GOAL.

    Weight gaining after sleeve?

You're not doing anything wrong. It's impossible to gain real weight early out. Everytime I'd stall, I would gain a couple of pounds. You're probably going into the 3 week stall everyone has. It's just our bodies reacting to starvation mode. No worries. As far as gaining weight further out and people gaining all their weight back, the surgery doesn't control what you eat or how much through out the day. It is the natural progression to be able to eat more as times goes by. I'm almost 3 years out, and can eat so much more than I could 1-2 years out. So say I can now eat a small dinner plate of food. If that plate consister of fried chicken, mashed potatoes and dessert, even if I can't eat it all, that kind of eating will add up over time, same as before surgery. I can eat a whole pizza if I really worked at it all day. That's why it's important to use the first year or so to change to a healthy lifestyle in order to keep the weight off. 43% of people who have had surgery gain weight back by returning to old, unhealthy habits.

Breaking a stall with MORE calories?

Almost everyone has a 3 week stall. Your body is just resting there is no reason to try and break it. However, yes upping your calories can shock your body and get it back to losing. When I upped my calories at month 4 I think, I had my biggest loss.
  17. Just keep on keeping on!!! You'll see a LOT of discussion of the "3 week stall"

Nice going! Broke through my own 3 week stall and have lost about 4#. Like you, hoping the next stall is way off.

    Slow WL

I’m not seeing the numbers drop like I had hoped either. My surgeon is fantastic and when I saw him one week post op (surgery was 1/21) I asked if I was on track. He said he didn’t care what my weight was that day. He cares what it is in 10 years. (I really love my surgeon and team). Now I’ve hit I guess what everyone calls the 3 week stall. BUT as a was tracking my food this morning I checked my graph for weight. From my highest a few years ago I’m down over 30 lbs. That encouraged me. Slow and steady wins the race. But in my heart of hearts I SO WANT to see that scale move dag nabbit!!
  20. I have been stalled / fluctuation the same 3 lbs for the past MONTH ! I am not even 3 months post op. I had surgery on Oct 14th. I stopped losing right after thanksgiving and have been fluctuating since. It's now a new year and I want to get back to losing. How common is a month long stall? I was reading that stalls happen at 3 months. I was early with my 3 week stall and got it at 2 weeks. Maybe I got a month long stall at 2 months instead of 3? I thought about doing the 5 day sleeve test to get my system back on track. As far as inches, I did lose, but as of lately (past several weeks) I haven't lose any inches. I'm just super frustrated and need to know how common this is or if I need to call my DR ? Here's my month chart .. Frustrating !! Thanks for letting me vent !

    September surgeries!

Thank you! I really hope I am but trying not to get my hopes up. Just broke a 3 week stall so trying to stay positive. It is a great feeling! So good every week I fear the scale stopping.

    How often do you weigh?

Ditto what zoomzoom said - started out daily but with a LONG 3 week stall I switched to weekly and that's what I do now.

    Stalled at Week 3

The 3 week stall is so common there should be a sub forum just for it. Really, almost everyone does it....then goes on to lose their weight and get to goal, so don't worry too much about it. There is a link in my sig to a good article explaining the whole situation.
  24. AnA92212

    Damn scale!

I weigh daily. I had an almost 3 week stall and it was so frustrating. This week I lost 9 pounds though. No clue how it happened, but it did. Be patient and keep up the hard work. Eventually your body will stop struggling against you and it will fall off.
  25. Yesterday was three weeks post-op, and the scale hasn't moved for a few days. I figure that this is (insert dramatic music here) the dreaded 3-week stall. If it weren't for you wonderful people on this forum, I would've been convinced that I was eating too much (600 calories a day?), had already stretched out my sleeve, I was a complete failure already, I would be the only one the sleeve wouldn't work for, and the Earth was falling into the Sun. But no. Because of you all, I knew what to expect. Last week, I took measurements, I've put away the scale until next week, and I'm going to keep plugging away at following the rules. Thank you, thank you, thank you.
