Any St. Louis/Metro Area Sleevers out there?
st.louis replied to Nikki Monroe's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
Hi! I'm from the Maryland Heights area. I was sleeved on 6/8/16. My doctor was Chris Eagon. I'm at the 3 week stall. The worst thing that I'm struggling with is constipation. HELP! Sent from my SM-G900V using the BariatricPal App -
Nearly three weeks post op

My surgery was June 10. I lost 22 lbs quickly. Now I am in 3 week stall. Frustrating, but hopeful. I started working out this week and I need to take my inches. I know that will help. Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App -

Weight loss has stopped...getting worried
silverthreads replied to charzard2016's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
The 3 week stall is definitely real as all here have stated but I'll add one more bit of testimony. I was sleeved April 28 so I'm just about a month further along than the OP. I stalled at week 4 after losing close to 30 pounds. I expected it and wasn't too worried -- but my stall pretty much lasted a month and it really was frustrating. I wouldn't lose anything, then finally lose a pound or two then stall another week -- like my body was just teasing me! Finally, I've been losing consistently for about a week now so I think I'm past this particular stall but I know there will be more. On the other hand I've passed the 40 pound mark and am two sizes down in pants and suits and getting spontaneous "you've really lost weight" comments from people I haven't seen in a while so I'm definitely thrilled with the results. Patience grasshopper. Nothing is wrong, your time will come! -
Calorie Question for Big Men at Six weeks-two months Out
DeletedMember replied to UpandAtom's topic in The Guys’ Room
I started at 333, but figure that's close enough to 350 to chime in here. I have never gotten more than about 600 calories in a day. I have a slight stricture and really, really struggle with solid foods. I get my 60g or Protein and 64oz, just like you. My average calorie intake is about 300-500. I have had no issue dropping weight. I had the 3 week stall at the beginning, but have had no further stalls so far. I'm just over 3 months out now. I've been losing about 20lbs a months (including this month). I'm down a total of 118lbs. 46 lost in the 6 weeks pre-surgery, 72 lbs lost in the 3 months post-surgery. -
It's been good! But I won't lie, the first 2 weeks were rough. I was depressed and exhausted. Even walking to the bathroom was a lot of work. But the start of week 3, I turned a corner. I didn't have much pain, but getting your Fluid and Protein requirements in is hard. Make sure you find a protein supplement that works for you. I spent a ton of money buying shakes and powders hoping to find one that worked. I didn't. Just the smell of the shakes started making me throw up. The powders were the same. I eventually bought an unflavored Protein powder and put it in my warm broth. I was able to get some down that way, but was always far from my 60 grams a day. Once you're able to eat soft foods, like gets easier. Also, 2 weeks after surgery I got Thrush. It took forever to clear up. So if your tongue looks white and weird, call your surgeon. But I'm 1 month post op and down 35 pounds, so that's a plus! Also, I'm sure you've read about it, but there is something called the "3 week stall". I stalled at 2 weeks and it last two weeks. The scale did not move, and it actually went up. My surgeon attributed that to Water, hormones, not eating enough calories, and healing. But it's very VERY frustrating not to see the scale move after undergoing surgery. So just keep that in mind.. Good luck! Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App

Stalling Sooner Than 3 Weeks...

gaining weight on soft foods
OutsideMatchInside replied to lkingglassalice's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
It is impossible to gain 2 lbs of fat in that amount of time. The calorie excess you would need to actually gain weight, you are not capable at this point. You are probably heading into a 3 week stall. Google it. Follow your plan you will keep losing. -
So I keep hearing people mention the dreaded "3 week stall." I think I am there. I am only almost 2 weeks post-op, but I'm almost 4 weeks since I started my pre-op diet. Since my pre-op diet started and after surgery I had been consistently losing a lb a day (except when I gained weight from the iv and gas after surgery and quickly lost it plus more). The last few days I have not lost anything. Maybe I'm just being overly analytical, but it sure seems like I am slowing and stalling. My question is how long does the stall last? And does a big loss come after it? Is there anything I can do to jump start the process? Thanks for your help! Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App

He lost 34lbs in 1 week. He was told about the stall that is coming, yet is upset that he is not losing for 1 week, which would be the 3 week stall that is all over this forum. I bumped this to remind him and not get discouraged. Sent from my SM-G930P using the BariatricPal App -
How Often Do You Weigh Yourself?
Icantbelieveit replied to psvzum's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I don't know how anyone could be overweight when they just need to get on a scale. We all know mental and emotional distress cannot be detrimental in any way. I mean if you have a 3 week stall, you are just as happy as a 10lb loss. Nobody ever has dove head first into a pint of ice cream, crying themselves to sleep thinking no matter what you do, you will always be fat. I mean, if some articles say it, you must do it. I guess I should tell everyone on keto that they can never lose weight eating all that fat. Research has shown low calorie is the only way. Sent from my SM-G930P using the BariatricPal App -

I don't get how this is possible. I'm 5 weeks post op, and I'm eating between 500-700 a day. I'm getting my Protein and Water and all that jazz. I've been at the dreaded "3 week stall" since June 5th and since then I have gained 6 pounds. What is going on???? Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App

Stalled out and going crazy -- need reassurance please
Renkoss replied to CMYKchick's topic in General Weight Loss Surgery Discussions
I stalled for about 3 weeks between 2-3 months out. I'm only at 10 weeks right now, but just broke that 3 week stall! Finally! I made sure to get my Protein in first and foremost, which I think really made the difference. I even went back to drinking at least 1-2 protein shakes a day to be sure I got it in! Just embrace the stall. They are upsetting and depressing even, but you will get through it. I felt the same way as you did. I know it isn't the last stall I'll experience either. You just have to take it with the rest. -
IV fluid weight gain and 3 week stall
Tara1992 replied to Kindle's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Just got my surgery date, and the simple answer is NO. My surgeon didn't tell me about iv fluids, just learned this a few minutes ago on a different thread. Good thing because if I left the hospital and weighed more without knowing, I probably would have cried. I've read about the 3 week stall on here as well, had no idea about that. I did although know about the carbs, my nutritionist was very thorough! I actually lost 11lbs and haven't even done my 2 week pre op diet yet. My NUT is also the one who told me to come on this site. I think my surgeon is very busy (no, that's not an excuse) but he might not remember who he tells what to. I have no doubt in my drs ability, he's been mazing from day 1 and very supportive and understanding. I see how vets on this site can be very frustrated tho. I've been on here a few weeks and see some posts and think to myself (really.....??). The first few days were hard to navigate and I'm still lost if I use the website instead of my ap, but I try to chime in where I can and read more. Sent from my SM-G900T using the BariatricPal App -
When to start exercising?
CeeGee replied to ssmoore's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I've been walking, riding the bike and doing circuit training and I'm pre surgery but I want to be as healthy as possible before my RNY in 9 days. I'm hoping I will be cleared to exercise soon after surgery because all of the 3 week stall I'm reading about is a little scary. Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App -

IV fluid weight gain and 3 week stall
OutsideMatchInside replied to Kindle's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I can't remember but I already knew about them pre-surgery from doing my research. The IV thing is just common sense though, I don't get why that baffles so many people. The 3 week stall is like the most infamous thing about WLS surgery. My nurse was 6 months post-op with the sleeve and most of my questions were more long term and all of them were answered. I was well prepared by my staff, but that is also why I picked them. I wanted a smooth streamline process. Making a thread like this asking people is pointless because most people won't read it, just like people don't use search and just as the same question that has been asked hundreds of times. I get that searching on the app might not be that intuitive, but Google is easy you can type in any random question and get an answer. Lately is seems that we have had an influx of people that went to XXX doctor that is only in it for the money and people have no education or very little education. Especially this new crop of people that had surgery in Mexico. I don't know how people last on here for years, at 11 months, I am about all burned out on answering questions. I want to answer questions and help people because I feel it is important to give back, but it is getting ridiculous. -
IV fluid weight gain and 3 week stall
Kindle posted a topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Ok, question for all you preops and maybe newly sleeved folks....Have ANY of your surgeons or nuts explained to you that you will gain a bunch of weight while you are in the hospital for your surgery? In general, this is from the IV fluids they give you and from all the inflammation and swelling caused by the surgery itself. And have any of you been told that you will likely have a stall at about 3 weeks postop? Did they explain stalls to you at all? The reason I ask is because over half the posts from newbies are about these two subjects. (Those and the ones asking if it's OK that they just ate a cookie or a slice of pizza 2 weeks postop cause their mean family doesn't support them by keeping these things out of the house) Everyone that spends more than an hour on any WLS forum knows about these things. I just don't understand why surgeons aren't preparing their patients for the normal post surgical things that tend to send so many into such a panic. Just curious if anyone is actually being given any helpful instructions prior to WLS, or are you just left to fend for yourself on the Internet? -
Wow so that leaves a whole lotta nothing to eat! I suspect my reply may be a bit controversial, but for one thing I avoid anything that says fat free or low fat, unless that is naturally the case. Otherwise it usually means added carbs and fillers. I have adjusted my own diet to what has worked best for me in the past and that is.. a low carb, HIGH FAT diet. Yes really, high fat. I eat real butter, real mayo, bacon, sausage, whole milk yogurt, and the like. I know this is going to freak some people out (OMG THE RULES!) but know what happened when I got off the low fat bandwagon? I broke my 3 week stall immediately and dropped about 7 pounds in one week. I also experienced a great reduction in hunger! I did this at about the 2 month mark. Today is my 3 month surgiversary. So anyway I confessed my rebellious diet switcharoo to my nutritionist yesterday and she didn't have much to say about it other than maybe by eating more fat I was bumping myself out of starvation mode and needed the extra calories to break my stall. She may be partly right but I can't agree entirely because I am, as I keep saying, A Professional Dieter. I know my body better than anyone and how it reacts to various percentages of macronutrients. Doing Low Carb/High Fat in the past was by far the most successful plan for me. I was able to drop 50 pounds in 5 months, without surgery and reached my ideal weight in maybe 7 or 8 months. (How did I gain it back? I ate carbs again.) I guess my point is, in the end we should all do whatever works best for us. I learned pretty early that I was in no danger of dumping, I also learned pretty early, that carbs such as crackers, fruit, and even vegetables were causing me to stall, but that didn't surprise me because it's not the first time. Early on you should just do whatever your team tells you to do (there's not much chance of sticking to low fat, low sugar, and low salt tho - good luck with that) Once you are more "on your own", you can choose to continue following their rules if they are working for you, or make your own if that works better. I make sure my team knows what I'm doing, and as long as I'm getting such great results, I will continue doing what works. Ok go easy on me.

@@theantichick you make several good points, but as one of the "vets" I don't really see the in fighting. I suppose I miss alot of the drama...and I guess don't notice this because I don't read posts about straws, soda, and the 3 week stall. It's better that way. I am a month post op. I am a revision from sleeve to RNY. The first week I lost 18 pounds. Absolutely nothing since. I have actually gained 2 pounds of that back with no reason to. I am now on regular foods and do everything I can to get Protein in with foods. I cannot drink the shakes because they make me sick. I have given up everything as I needed to. I eat chicken, fish, Beans, Greek yogurt, turkey, vegetables and little fruits. I drink Water only. I feel like this has failed me. I feel like I am doing everything I am supposed to. This is a true 3 week stall after only being a month out. I have measured and my measurements haven't changed during this time either. With a 2 pound gain. Help!!! May 24 Surgery Day
Lindsey Skinner Abbott replied to LoveMyBypass's topic in General Weight Loss Surgery Discussions
I think I have reached the 3 week stall. I have been the same weight for about 4 days. Has anyone else had a forever long period? I have a IUD and haven't had a period in two years. All of a sudden bam here it is for the past few weeks. Plus the blood thinners I am on make it worse...like clots....sorry if this is TMI.
