    My Nsv So Far :)

Congrats to all your NSV's. I remebr when I was actively loosing, I couldn't figure out why I had trbl reaching the gas peddle in the car. Felt like someone had moved it too far back! I, also, enjoyed the 1st time I did not recognize myself in the overhead mirrors when shopping.

    My Nsv So Far :)

Thank you for posting your NSV's. I've been on a 9 week plateau and it is so easy to get discouraged and down. Seeing the NSV's make me stop and think about how far I've come already and it gives me the kick in the pants to continue to perservere. I will conquer this plateau. My NSV's to date: -I have energy to play with my 5 year old son, instead of sitting and watching him play I get involved. -I no longer have sleep apnea -I no longer take my diabetes meds -latest blood test showed my cholesterol was perfect as opposed to dangerously high -I went from a size 22 to a 14 and some of those are loose. -I don't view clothes shopping as a punishment anymore. I now have too many options to choose from, which I have to admit is a bit intimidating for me. I was so used to hating the styles for "big" people and having to pick the least offensive of them. Choices were limited no decisions necessary. Now that isn't the case. I have to pick and choose since I can't take them all home. I like it. Thanks again for sharing your NSV's, it reminds me to take stock in what I've accomplished instead of focusing on the scale which shows me that I've accomplished nothing in 9 weeks.

That is awesome, congratulations!! I think the fact you're off all those meds and your blood sugar is under control is a HUGE NSV!!!

    My Nsv So Far :)

Congrats Mis!!!! That is very commendable! The steering wheel NSV is outstanding! My 1st NSV (Im only 2 months post op) is that my rings fit loose now. they rotate around my fingers with ease and room now! Im looking forward to looser clothes ... but 1 step at a time

    My Nsv So Far :)

I've heard a few people note how often people post with issues but not nearly often enough about their success. Those people were right, and those of who are having success with the band need to post our stories. People need to see the good as much, if not more, than the bad. Today, when I was driving my son to school, I realized my car seat position just wasn't working anymore. I smiled, because I remembered how just four short months ago my tummy was literally pressed against the steering wheel when I drove. Now, despite the fact I lowered the steering wheel (tilt steering) and I've moved my seat up- I still have at least 8 inches between my tummy and the steering wheel. That got me thinking "wow that's a biggie NSV!" Then I realized I've had many, so, here's mine: -Tummy no longer touches the steering wheel when I drive, with lots of room to spare and move. -85 pounds ago, I could barely walk into a store from a handicapped spot let alone around the store itself. Aside from being obese, I also have Multiple Sclerosis, and the combination of the two made mobility VERY difficult and painful. Now, I stopped using my handicapped tag, and I can easily walk through the entire mall (repeatedly, with my kids lol). Losing weight has relieved so much stress from my legs muscles, it's even significantly helped my MS spasticity. -I am chaperoning my son's field trip to the zoo next week because now I know I can handle that much walking. Before I was banded, I wouldn't have even made it to the zoo entrance let alone walking around the zoo all day with a bunch of 4th graders. -My cane sits in my car trunk totally unused. I don't need it anymore. -I have dropped over 4 clothing sizes. -I saw my dad and nephew for the first time in a year recently. My dad was floored how good I look. My 11yr old nephew told my brother (who told me) "Dad you should see Aunt Mis, she looks so different and so good now". I still have a long ways to go with my weight loss journey, but I know I'll get there. These are my NSV stories, what's yours? Please share!
  6. That's a wonderful NSV!! Yay, Mom!!!
  7. Okay, here's what I'd advise to anyone just starting this journey: 1. Take your measurements pre-op. Keep track of them as you lose weight. When you stall/plateau, and we all do it, take your measurements again. Stalls are when I seem to lose sizes and notice the inches going away. 2. Stick to your post-op diet religiously. Your doctor has prescribed this diet because s/he feels that it's the safest diet to avoid complications with your new sleeve. 3. Start walking as soon as possible after surgery. Always try to do a little more than you did yesterday. 4. The minute you're released to lift weights, start lifting weights. I do a lot of low weight, high repetition work and I started out doing 10 reps of the simplest arm exercises I could find. Biceps curls, triceps extensions, skull crusher. 5. Be patient. You didn't gain all this weight in a hurry, so you won't lose it in a hurry. It will still seem incredibly fast when you get to goal. 6. Visit a therapist to help you learn how to deal with the life changes from VSG. We wouldn't be here if we didn't have food issues. 7. Drink your 64 oz of Water daily. Get in your Protein daily. Repeat and repeat. 8. Join My Fitness Pal or one of the other food logger sites. It's tremendously motivating. 9. Look for the Non scale Victories (NSV) every single day. It will help you stay positive about your journey and will give you motivation when yours is flagging. 10. Stolen straight from FavoredOne... ENJOY THE JOURNEY. This isn't a race. You don't get extra points for not eating properly or for being the fastest/slowest/most average loser. Does that help any?
  8. My size 12p jeans are now so large they fall down. I really can even wear them with a belt. I just bought new size 10 petite jeans. How sweet it is! I am still wearing size either size 12p or 10p in dress pants - depends on the brand. Love my sleeve! Sharon
  9. Today is one of those days where I feel like I'm going backward. Though I've made amazing progress in the past three months, the past week is what is getting me down. It's the yo-yo plateau. You know, the same two pounds...back and forth, back and forth. Ugh! I am trying to step up my exercise and mix it up a bit. Watching my calorie intake. Trying to keep my water intake up as well. Those two pounds just won't leave forever! I know I should focus on NSVs like all the positive comments I'm getting from people; the fact that I have very few items in my closet that fit; the fact that I just got a pair of pants that are THREE sizes smaller than what I had when I started this journey. Isn't it amazing how two freakin' little pounds can trip you up in such a way. Okay....gonna try to be more positive tomorrow.

Justdoit- I am here too! I read everyday on my email. Congrats everyone for all the SV and NSV. I have the best news so far in my lapband life, I have broken through my plateau and I have now lost 50lbs, I am so happy!!! I had plateaued for 3-4 weeks and I was getting so frustrated. I decided two weeks ago to increase my exercise but continued to eat the same amount of calories (around 900) and lost nothing last week. So even more frustrated, I did some research and decided my metabolism maybe had stalled. I decided I would try a few high calorie days (1500-2000) and I initially had a few pound gain, but when I started to have my low calorie days again the weight started to melt off. I have lost 5 lbs in in 4 days! I now plan on eating a day or two of high calories every week and to keep my metabolism up. I hope this trend continues
  11. I am a mom of there boys aged 14,18 and 21. The middle one is about 5'9" and built stocky but has changed his stature into muscle because he is a body builder. Yesterday when he came home from the gym he came up to hug me, let go real quick and said "woah let me try that again." So he hugged me again and said "mom, I can get my arms around you soo much better now, I bet I could throw you over my shoulder " needless to say I didn't let him do that but he made me feel so good!!! When you see yourself everyday in the mirror you don't notice the changes. Its so nice for others to notice and tell you.

Meredith...I posted a pic in my gallery yesterday. JDI130...I've hit a plateau...well...more like a yo-yo. I can't seem to get lower than 215 and then I'll bounce back up to 217. Its back and forth, back and forth. I'm trying to mix up my menu and my exercise but nothing seems to be working yet. However, I do have the NSV of the unexpected size 18 jeans! Still moving forward! Going to the 2nd Harvest Food Bank (Nashville) to sort and fill boxes of food for families that need them. Have a great day everyone!

    One Year after surgery v2.JPG

Sharon, you look fantastic! You're an inspiration! My sleeve date is 11 days from now....I just posted some before pictures. I can't wait to post a pic like yours.....I hope I look half as great and obviously happy as you do! FYI, you're wearing the same glasses in both pics, right? It's amazing.....but they look too wide for your face in the second pic! What a difference! Maybe it's time for some slim sexy new glasses too? Who knew they could be an NSV too? LOL

Nsv - Surgeon Didn't Recognise Me!

that is wonderful! Super duper NSV!!!
  15. I saw my surgeon for a follow up and fill tonight. I was the only one in the waiting room when he came out and called me name, then looked around for me. "Oh, I didn't recognise you!" he said, "You look great!" Needless to say I was pretty pumped by that, but then he mentioned his information seminars and said I would be a model patient to speak at them. And then when I went out to reception, his receptionist pointed out that he hadn't recognised me! He also remembered that I had my son's wedding and was pleased that I had brought photos in to show him. (I've tried to attach a pic, so hope that it works.) Only small negative of the appointment was that my port may have partially flipped. He was able to get the fill in (two jabs, ouch!) but warned that it may flip completely, even though it was both stitched and mechanically attached. Fingers crossed that doesn't happen!
  16. Ok. This was awesome! My husband has a habit of walking past me and smacking me a good one on the butt. Usually too hard and I have to whine at him. So tonight, I was wearing a pair of jeans I haven't worn in years. I was showing him the pants and I said "go ahead! Smack it!" He said Nooooo, it's too small and delicate, I might break it! HAAA!!!! He called my butt small and delicate!! He's never said anything on me was small OR delicate! (It's not really small by many definitions, but I guess compared to what he was USED to looking at....) YESSSS!!!!

Totally cool NSV! I hope to one day shop for stuff at Victoria's Secret myself.

    Nsv At Victoria's Secret!

    Yay!!! That's a great NSV!
  19. I went into Victoria's Secret today on a whim and got measured for a bra and I was a 38 DD. Do you know what that means??? They sell bras in my size now! So, I promptly spent $134 on new bras and undies!!! LOL. Hope my husband likes them enough to not pay attention to the price tag. LOL I decided that when I get to goal, I'm going to LaPerla to really splurge.
  20. Prior to surgery I wore a size 24. Today, I had to go buy new pants because all my other one's were too big. So I went to the store and tried on 20's . . . . to big, then I tried on 18's . . . .STILL too big. I then tried the 16's and they fit!!!!!!! I haven't worn 16's in over 20 years!!!!! I am so LOVING my sleeve!

    Wednesday 2Nd Is My Day...

Best of Luck..... the one thing i learned in my journey is....we have to work with the band to lose weight. The band itself will not make us lose the weight. I had the same concerns before I was banded and decided to follow the people that went ahead of me that were working a healthy program. On the other side there were some that did not lose weight and continually talked about dairy queen, margarita's, etc. Of course i had ups and downs... but i keep getting up and brushing myself off and get back on track. Some things that helped me... 1. journal what i was eating. too many times i was under estimating what i was putting in my mouth. also needed to make sure i was eating enough Protein. many great sites available. i used netdiary.com. but others are: fitday.com, (cant think of the other one i used) 2. stopped weighing myself daily as i would react poorly to whatever number came up. i weighed 1X a month and measured myself 1X a month. 3. exercised. weights and aerobics 4. used lapbandtalk.com for information. i didnt get into negative conversations as sometimes happens on this site. everyone has a right to their opinions. i can only share my experience and follow others that make sense to me. 5. did writings in a journals on feelngs, NSV's etc. best feeling was when i fit in an airline seat without an extra belt. or when i first saw collar bones. 6. drink lots of Water. at least 1 gallon a day. someone once said....nothing tastes as good as thin feels.... anyway wishing you all the best.... and if any help needed...please dont hesitate to ask. josie

    Buh-Bye Women's Dept!

I don't have an LB card to cut up! Thank goodness!! However, I know what you mean. I'm just in between the women's plus and women's regular clothes, so shopping right now means that I MUST try it on... and it has to be tight if I'm going to wear it for more than a week or two. I bought workout clothes last week that are already getting baggy. I'm happy dancing for you today! That's a GREAT NSV!!!
  23. Great NSV!! Good for you for doing what it takes to make yourself more healthy!
  24. So, last night I walked a mile with my neighbor. In the past, I had been out of breath afterwards and so thankful that we were done. Last night, I wasn't winded at all and was actually ready to go for another mile! (The only reason I didn't was that I had to get my kids to bed.) Also, my hubby and I are starting the couch to 5k program on Monday. I am nervous because I have never been a runner, but I have a goal set to run a 5k in September! Wish me luck!
  25. Sunday I became the Mrs. to my best friend! The day was everything I could ever want thanks to my VSG surgery 8 months ago. I was able to hold my head up high, have energy for the days events, and actually feel like a pretty bride instead of an embarrassed-about-my-weight bride. My new husband deserves the best me I can give him and I feel like this surgery is allowing me to offer that. Thank you to all the people on this forum who have shared their experiences, offered support, and cheered for me along the way. Oh Happy Day!!!
