10-9-06 A Surgery Date in the near Future?

I have finally jumped through all of the hoops that the insurance company has placed before me...I am approved for surgery and will be confirming a surgery date in the next few days! I have my final consultation with the surgeon and my pre-op lab work coming up in the next week. I can hardly believe that i have come this far. I have been having very realistic dreams of what it will feel like to have the band inside me and what it will be like to live with the band and be around others. I really hope this is the right decision for me. I really dont have my entire family's support and that makes me nervous. Today my mom said to me "why cant you just diet...you know you are going to be in pain..." and so on...:straight Wish me luck!

    10-5-06 Yeah journals are back!!!

I am so happy that the journal function is up and running again! For about the past month I have been playing the insurance "battle." I found out today that I have been approved for the surgery! My next step now is to make the final appt. with the surgeon. I am excited, nervous...I have dreams about what it feels like to have the band inside me. A lady that I work with had the surgery back in May and she actually let me feel her port. To be honest, I was kind of freaked out by how "well" I could feel it...But she looks great, already has lost nearly 60 lbs. Well...moving on..update soon!

I had my assessment with the Nutritionist today, it went very well. She was very nice and knowledgeable of the nutritional requirements pre and post-lap band. I have my pysc eval on Monday, then it's just wait and see.:nervous

Well, I weighed myself yesterday and I have not seen anymore progress, I will weigh myself again tomorrow and then from now on only on Wednesdays. I don't know why I am getting so disappointed. I know I haven't had a fill yet. I am trying my hardest to track my calories and make sure I am staying between 800-1300. This is so hard when you don't have any retriction and know that you can eat anything you want and eat right around the band. :faint:

Ok, tomorrow (Oct. 4th) I have my nutrition assessment. Monday, Oct. 9th I have my pyschological evaluation. Then I just wait for my consultation with Dr. Veninga on Nov. 30th and pray, pray that someone cancels and I'm able to be seen earlier:pray2:.

Called Terry at the office and she told me the pain is from drinking too fast or if it gets severe (like sat pm) its my gall bladder. She said not a slip since that requires vomiting. I am eating gas x, rolaids.
  9. Hello everyone! After many years of yo-yo dieting I decided to get the lap-band. My insurance denied me, therefore I was a private pay. I figure I can spend that much on a car then I can spend that much on me! I just had my surgery on Tuesday (September 19) and am up moving around. Muscle soreness still around the port site, but otherwise feeling great! Maybe too great! I am hungry...and tired (so tired of liquids.) But I am dedicated and will follow doctor's orders. I look forward to talking with all of you for support, motivation, and maybe some day venting! Eve
  10. Hi Everyone, I have been reading the website for a couple weeks now off and on and doing some research, but I have few questions and concerns. I would really appreciate any help and advice you have to give. I am being banded 10-9-2006 by Dr Kuhn, at Baylor Dallas. If anyone has heard much about him, I would really like to hear from you. I spent time in his office this past week, where a psycologist told me I would fail at the band and tried to push me into the bypass. I could tell at my first seminar with the Baylor doctors they were pro gastric bypass, but it just flat scares me. I have heard stories from people I work with who have had gastric. Anyway I have spent the day reading Lapband and came across a site about removal of the band and reasons why. I wish I had never gone there. I would love to hear positives right now. I do have two questions that I am not sure about. Can you tell my why they dont want you to drink before or after a meal? Also why are Fiber foods bad to eat? I saw asparagus on the list and it made no sense. I am not backing down but I am a little nervous right now. I have spent a lifetime on a weight roller coaster and I am ready to get off the ride. <!-- / message --><!-- sig -->__________________

  12. I cant belive it is the night before I am to be banded. I am excited and nervouse at the same time. I lost 3 1/2 lbs since last Thrusday because of nerves and doing alot of liquids. Everything I ate didn't want to stay in so I started my liquid diet early. Hope that my band twin from Austraila is doing ok. Well be thinking of her as I go off to sleep. :notagree Good luck to all other Sept 22 bandsters. See you on the other side....hehehehe:rolleyes:

  17. I was walking around the house the other day and as my legs slapped together I started to laugh. I was thinking of what David Letterman would list as his top 10 reasons not to get fat. So I thought it would be fun to see what you guys thought. I can't think of 10 yet but here are a few. 10. Women need to buy a OVER THE SHOULDER BOULDER HOLDER Rather than a bra 9. RUNNING CAN CAUSE BLACK EYES 8.WALKING UP THE STAIRS AND CLAPPING YOUR HANDS SOUND THE SAME (I'm not trying to be insulting to anyone and I hope that you all take this as lightly. If I am offending anyone I'm sorry I really don't mean to.)
  18. Hello, Before anyone directs me to another thread link, I already know this has been done before. I have researched old threads and can navigate this site well. I would like the most recent information pertaining to this subject please. :help: I was banded in June in Mexico and had the 10 cc VG band done by Dr. Joya. Great surgery, no complications. My problem now is that the only weight loss I had was in the first 3 weeks after surgery, none since then and I am gaining that weight loss back at an alarming rate. My after care doctor in my town is Dr. Helmuth Billy. He is a great, competent Dr. My only concern is that I don't think he has treated many patients with this larger band and he is very conservative with fills. He wants to make sure there are no slips or errosion by doing agressive fills. Wonderful. Unfortunately, I have had no restriction since the first few weeks of being banded. My research on the board show that those with this band need A LOT more in their fills to reach the sweet spot. I want to take as much data as possible supporting this to my next appointment with him (on Thursday). I need to get a good fill this time. I am in a very deep depression because of my weight issues after spending thousands of dollars on this procedure. I need a jump start to get me going again and give me a shot in the arm. I don't think I'll be able to take a nother small fill and wait another few months to get to a point where I feel any restricion. I hope you help and support me as this is tearing my psyche apart. Thanks to all of you for your help.
  19. I have been so hungry the past two days, and I don't feel full. I had baby food pears, two 8oz protien drinks, 1/2- 1 cup mashed potatoes a cup of Soup and some shredded slimey chicken yesterday, in addition to 3 16oz bottles of Water. It just seems like a lot to injest and still feel hungry and not feel that very full bloated feeling. I'm not having any pain, in fact I feel great. Any ideas or is this normal?

    lost more than 10 inches

My DH did my measurements yesterday. I'm only measuring my left side and already have lost 10 inches!! over 2 on my chest, an inch on my arms - I lost everwhere but my thigh - calf, hips, chest, upper arm, waist! I'm down to 233 lbs from 255. 22lbs!! I'm wearing a shirt today I couldn't wear last week cause the sleeves were too tight. I realize my weight loss will slow in the coming weeks as I begin to eat more and before my first fill, but this loss is sure thrilling. I've moved out of pain into nasuea. I have been "eating" mushies. I get a very sick feeling about 2 hours after I eat. I don't know what that is - I can't wait for it to go away though!! Soft boiled eggs with salt and pepper are my new favorite. We had our wedding reception on Sat. the 26th. With about 45 guest and a spread of food to die for. Everyone told me it was great. I told my DH we would have to do it again when I can EAT! I haven't been on the treadmill. I have been walking more throughout the day however - the mall for back to school clothes yesterday. Shopping for my 5'9" 121lbs daughter I thought - I wonder when I'll be able to shop in these stores!? My incisions are healing and my swelling has gone down a lot. My belly isn't as huge as it was! I'm going to take pictures today or tomorrow and post them. I also was able to have sex for the first time 3 nights ago. I told DH - "Make it quick! and if it hurts you have to stop!" However, it went fine. There was no pain - just a wierd feeling in my tummy when I was tense. I realize this is too much information, but I'm sharing the "unmentionable stuff" to help if others have questions about it.

    10 cc band

Who has a 10cc band and how much of a fill do you have? I have 7.5 cc and minor restriction.. I think once I get to 8-8.5 I should be good...
  22. Well my wound is finally healed up! I still have a big dip in my tummy but the hole it self is closed. It took about 4 months and I am so glad I dont have to worry about it anymore. I can put cute pretty things on my dresser now, instead of it looking like a Dr.'s office! So I will be leaving out to CO either Tuesday or Wednsday of next week. I did start a diet, just drinking slimfast and dinner being very healthy and very small. I am very excited to finally be here and getting rebanded. I really hope it works this time. Not that it didnt work before, I am down almost 60 pounds, but I should be down more then that. I am worried in a lot of ways as well. I hope the band I have now is okay and not eroded. I would hate to wake up without a band. So keep me in your prayers next week. And hopefully by the 1st I will be a "Real" bandster again! I will hang out with you all more offten too! Thanks for everything all your support and freindship, This year was very hard for me but all of you have been such wonder friends!!! WOOHOO Im getting re-BANDED!!!!!!!!!!
  23. I was blown away by the latest news. Like for many, this case has haunted me in many ways over the last 10 years. I hope, in fact, this guy Karr is the killer and it will be proven beyond any doubt (I understand they got DNA from evidence in 2003...and if it matches this guys' DNA...then it will pretty much be the forensic proof that is required). It will all be on Larry King Live tonight....so that show should explain a few things. If he is the killer, it is too bad that Patsy passed away before knowing the truth. It'll be interesting to see how it all plays out....at what (if any) prior relationship this guy had with the family. I know, I, for one, will easily admit that I have strongly suspected the family (one or both parents) for the longest time.

    8-10-06 Great experience with surgeon

 Yesterday I had a really great experience at my pre-op consultation with the surgeon, and I was even paid a compliment. I really like how confident and excited the surgeon, Dr. M, is about this procedure and how happy he has been with the results from his patients. He seemed proud of me for making this decision at a young age, hoping to turn my life around, and making healthier decisions. He was even surprised by how much I weigh and said "you carry your weight really well." I do look overweight, but the numbers are surprising... Even so, it is there, wearing and tearing on my body. I feel really confident about Dr. M doing the surgery even though he has only performed 35 lapbands, and has only been doing the procedure for 11 months. He explained that at first he was reluctant to get on board for the surgery, but after educating himself more and going to more seminars he felt confident in adding it to the WLS surgeries he performs. He was really open, honest, patient and let me ask as many questions as I needed to. I was surprised at how easy I found it to talk with him about this very personal decision. I even was bold enough to ask him how my breasts would look after the surgery and were I may need plastic surgery. He even brought a band with him to show it to me and exactly where it would be placed on my body. I was nervous about meeting the surgeon on my own, but it all went really well, and I feel even more confident about this decision. On Monday I am scheduled to have the motility test and esophagram at the hospital. Thankfully the surgeon's nurse was able to pull a few strings and get me in, since I will begin teaching on the 23rd, not too much time left! :rolleyes
