    Friday Weigh-In!

I forgot about Friday Weigh-In! HW: 290 (4/2012) SW: 262 (8/29/12) Last Week: 241.5 CW: 238.5 3 pounds this week! 23.5 pound in 1 month since surgery! 51.5 total! It's slow, but it's coming off! I'm spending the afternoon switching over summer and winter clothes - and finding myself a new wardrobe in my own closet! I very conveniently pretty much skipped over an entire jeans size - which works out great, because I ripped out every pair I had in that size during weight gain - and I have 8 perfect pairs in my current size!

    Birth Control Pills

My doctor said for 2 reasons: They may cause some weight gain We can't absorb all of the pill so it's not very effective Sent from my Galaxy S III using RNYTalk
  3. Hi everyone, thank u for your support the last couple of days. Today was a much better day, despite my beloved Hawks going down to the Swans. I guess it was only a matter of time before I felt the slight depression that others had experienced. I am a very independent person and do everything myself, so I guess I have struggled with not being able to do stuff that needs to be done. The 3 months wasnt compulsory, my doc and I agreed it would be best to deal with some issues before getting sleeved as they are directly related to my weight gain. I would try again but not with the same psychologist. That's no good Scotty, hope u sell the car quickly. Sleep well everyone, we finally have some rain here on the coast tonight- lovely sound to fall asleep too :-)

Eating A Microscopic Bite Vs. Self Control

You sound exactly like me! In 3 yrs, I've never counted anything nor measured anything. I go by what my body tells me. Measuring and counting remind me of dieting - something I swore I'd never, ever do again after getting the band. I also don't write down everything I've eaten. Had to do it for a week for my previous trainer and it was a pain in the butt. Don't know how people do that all day. To me, I'm trying to get my focus OFF of eating, not to make it more of a focus. I'm trying to be like a normal, thin person. And normal, thin people don't write down everything they eat. I also eat carbs. My PA lectures me about my carb intake everytime I see him. Never wanted to diet again, and again, watching my carb intake is just like dieting. But I'm stuck at a certain number and the only way down from there is to start counting, I guess. I still remember how many calories are in EVERYTHING cuz I was such a proficient dieter in the past! I don't think I have a problem with how big my bites are - it's how fast I shove them in my mouth. Elcee, I think we have so much in common. Like the recent weight gains we've both had after almost reaching goal. Too bad you're on the other side of the world! Marci

    6Wks Out, Gained 1.4Lbs

You guys saved me today! Wow my gilt was setting in. As for obsessing about the scale, that's definitly not my issue, I use the scale to help me determine what my body is doing. When I gain a pound and a half that means something is going on, for example Water retention or whichever. I think the scale, like the surgery, is a tool in itself. When I'm curious about weight gain it's because I'm interested to know what's going on in my body, not because I'm demanding weight loss. I've been so focused on surviving after surgery that once I started eating normally'esk I got really freaked out. Good to know my system and body is stronger then that. Thanks to ech of you for saving my mental health. xoxo

    6Wks Out, Gained 1.4Lbs

Stay focused on following the protocol as closely to the letter as you can, stay active, and stay away from the scales for at least a week and two if you can stand it. Make sure that you are getting ALL of your Protein in - every day. It will help a lot with your exhaustion. Your body is going through some serious healing and a lot of changes. Protein is crucial to helping your body regenerate tissue and on a low carb diet, protein becomes your primary source of energy. As you have learned the hard way, dehydration can land you back in the hospital in a heartbeat. Most folks struggle with getting in 64oz of Water (all fluids help) a day but it's important to come as close as you possibly can. For most that means a sip at a time pretty much all day long. Minor weight gains are irrelevant and almost certainly water. The most effective way to avoid sabotaging yourself with the scales - stay off of them! Trust the process. Remind yourself every day (even several times a day!) that there is not the slightest doubt that you will lose weight as long as you are following the protocol. The science is rock solid and supported by hundreds of thousands of success stories over more than 30 years. Take all that "freaking out" and "worrying" energy that you're wasting and use it to stay focused. Six months from now and for the rest of your life you'll be thinking it was the best money you ever spent! Or ever will spend!! Last but certainly not least, remember that patience is not only a virtue, it's an absolute necessity. There is not a single one of us that doesn't understand how you feel. But you simply cannot rush the process. Allow your body to find its own way in its own time. It won't let you down and you're gonna love the new you!!
  11. Anyone who is in maintenance - how long did it take for your body to get past the ups and downs of carb weight gain when you added them back in at maintenance? I am where I would like to maintain but as soon as I add in carbs, even staying well within my calories for maintenance I gain 3-4 lbs! I am sure this is a blip but it completely freaks me out and sends me straight back to a strict low carb diet.
  12. I just got out of ER after smashing a set of scales into my bathroom mirror... I just found out that a medication I e been on causes weight gain, and although my doctors scales said I was 2 kilos down my brand new, just arrived, digital scales showed me at 4 kilos above my starting weight... 146 kilos!!! My doctors says 126... But! I try so hard, and this medication has been making me starving and so eating more and then eating junk because I feel bad for eating so much... I feel like I'm starting all over again and it's so so so long until my surgery... So, I feel terrible for you! That's a very slow loss weight, I of course think it is a build up of muscle, and definitely a problem with your metabolism- it could definitely be "starvation mode" where your body won't let go of the weight because its scared it won't be getting any more energy... How are your hair and nails? If they are in poor condition this is a big indication of starvation mode. You can good advice on how to fix this on here and from a nut. I highly recommend seeing a but you trust who won't judge you. This is a personal journey and the last thing you need sometimes is someone like your surgeon double-guessing your routine! Try doing some cardio on elliptical or treadmill 5 min fast walking, 1-2 min jogging/running, back to walking... Do this for 30-60 mins and this should definitely burn some fat... Try setting a wake- up time and eat brekky straight away, or after a walk if you want, and don't eat anything 12 hours after this time. Your metabolism starts from the first thing you eat and stops 12 hours later. Triple, and quadruple check any and ALL medications you are on for weight related side effects... Finally, find a natural therapist and try some massage or reflexology. You need to relax, you have absolutely no idea until you try this how much stress you are carrying!!! You cannot truly be healthy if you are all clogged up with rage and anxiety... You WILL be fine, you are a strong and capable person who can do this. You cannot control anything in this world, even your own body, so take a deep breath and with your breath out surrender to this life. You have nothing but time ahead... You will be fine!!!
  13. Ok, I've been good. I've tried to give myself some time, but now I'm just pissed and about to lose my **** with this sleeve revision. I had the band Sept of 2010. Piece of crap it was. I lost a grand total of 20 when all was said and done. Sliming, weight gain, misery- many of you know the deal. Fast forward to July 9th. The Crapband was evicted from my torso. Gone, never to be seen again. Along with it, a good chunk of my stomach. All was fine and dandy the first two weeks. I went from 217 to 203. Whoo Hoo! Yeah, I know a lot of that was Water, but who cares. But from that point on it's been completely disappointing. The past 9 weeks I have only lost 8-9 pounds. Yes, that is 1 f'ing pound a week on average. Are you kidding me?!!! No, I am not eating sugar, junk, etc. Yes, I am eating loads of Protein. I am not dehydrated. I'm not sitting on my butt all day. I go to physical therapy 3 times a week at a gym for a killer workout to get me back in shape for ski season. My muscles are showing the results of the hard work. I'm active beyond that. I walk. My blood sugar is perfect and my thyroid is allegedly fine(although my family history with it is horrible). What the hell am I supposed to do? This isn't at stall, this is a full stop. I have lost more weight on my own doing Weight Watchers or Atkins! I can not for the life of me figure out how I can be eating 1/4 of the calories that I used to and exercising more and lose a measly 1 pound a week. Am I really that pathetic? My surgeon has basically written me off after two surgeries. I get the same questions each time I go in. I think he is waiting for me to fess up to something so he can bust me, but I have nothing to confess! I don't even feel the need to go back to his office anymore. His solution was to prescribe me Phentramine. I seem to get no where with him, nor my Endocrinologist who should have some better insight into my obviously messed up metabolism. I keep reading the July Sleevers thread and I seem to be literally 50% behind (or more) everyone else in weight loss. Next Monday will be 12 weeks and I will be at maybe 23-24 pounds down. I can't imagine that many others have had this poor of a result, not once, but twice, band included. I would love to hear from anyone who is/has been in my situation. I need some guidance here. This is beyond me wanting to whine. I am past whining. I am pissed off. I have something wrong with me that is preventing me from really losing weight. The past few days I have been starving and eating a lot more than usual. It's not 'head hunger', but growling stomach, light headed, give me food now hunger.
  14. Hello All, I was wondering where you guys went? You made a few post in August and stopped. I too had the procedure with a low BMI. I spent 20 yrs in the Army, always on the over weight program. I would lose enough not to get put out. I was tired of the weight gain, weight loss roller coaster, this surgery, I believe is the best thing for me. I wish I could have had it when I was still active duty. I started this journey at 189lbs, my pre-op diet 4 Sep, surgery 17 Sep and today I'm 171. I hesitate to post in the general forums, seem like LBM bandsters aren't received that well. Anyway, good luck to everyone that had chosen this path. I hope to see you on the other side.
  15. His wk I started eating between 1000-1200 calories...which is normal diet for loosing weight and somehow I gained! Granted I've been eating some things with sodium in it which could have caused the weight gain...very strange. Hating this who process at the moment.
  16. Are you fed up with struggling with overeating, starting another d-i-e-t that you know will probably blow up on you, or wishing your pants were not so tight? Here are five simple things you can implement today to control your cravings, eat less, and thrive more. 1. Sleep. Don’t keep working harder and harder. Play it smart. Women who average five hours or less of sleep per night weigh more, gain weight more easily, and crave more carbohydrates and fattening foods—and it’s not in their heads! Sleep deprivation leads to chemical changes in your body that cause overeating and weight gain (even if you don’t overeat). Aim for at least seven and a half hours of sleep per night. Not only will you be less hungry, your productivity, focus, and creativity will probably improve. You may even find yourself accomplishing more than when you were burning the midnight oil. Additional bonus: you’re likely to feel a whole lot better. 2. Pay attention to your feelings. Emotional eating—eating as a response to feelings—is a major cause of overeating and packing on the pounds. Stress eating, comfort eating, eating out of frustration and even eating out of boredom or happiness can all sabotage your weight loss plans. Develop strategies to check in with yourself and with how you are feeling so that you can respond to your emotions in ways that don’t involve food. Added bonus: when you address your feelings instead of feeding them, you will be taking charge of your life and responding to what you really need. When you do this, life gets better. 3. Carve out time for you. Stress and overload can be a direct path to weight gain. If you’re feeling time crunched, you’re likely to make the all-too-common mistake of cutting out the activities that are actually the best for you. Me-time helps you relax and unwind. It also gives you an opportunity to pay attention to yourself and what you need to function and flourish. When you meet your needs and care for yourself in quality ways, you are less likely to find yourself using food as a “special treat” or a “band aid” to help you get through the day. Practice giving yourself a five or ten minute time out a few times a day. The bonus: these short breaks help you get perspective on your day. You’re likely to feel more organized and relaxed as a result. 4. Feed yourself quality food at regular intervals. If you are trying to eat less, it can be tempting to cut back too far and allow yourself to get too hungry. Big mistake. While depriving yourself with strict diets may initially seem to create results on the scale, in the long run, eating too little leads to stronger cravings (usually for foods that will spike your blood sugar levels quickly), overeating, and binge eating. Do you find that your healthy eating plan always gets blown in the afternoon or evening? Try eating smaller, more frequent meals during the day and make sure that you are including some protein each time you eat. Bonus: when you feed yourself well, both your energy levels and your mood are likely to improve. 5. Savor. You might be surprised to find how little of what you eat you actually allow yourself to savor and enjoy. Eating on the run and multitasking while you eat mean that your attention is divided between food and your hunger and whatever else you are doing. When you eat without giving it your full attention, you are likely to eat more and not feel as full. Impose a ban on multitasking when you eat. Take your time and practice eating mindfully—paying complete attention to your food—the taste, smell, even the texture. Notice how full or hungry you are and allow yourself to enjoy the act of eating. Bonus: savoring is a pleasant activity and it tends to be relaxing. Practicing enjoying your food in this way and getting in the habit of doing one thing at a time is a great strategy for reducing stress. If you apply the concept of not multitasking to other areas of your life, you’re also likely to see an improvement of the quality of your results.

    Medications!

    Medications!

Ok guys! So I've lost 2 kilos, 4.4 pounds. BUT! This is in 6 weeks. I'm a pre-sleever working through my food issues to get sleeved June 2013. I've been struggling this month- extreme hunger at night, fatigue, cravings, pms with out the M! So I see the head of the clinic today, I paid full fee for the pleasure, only to be told that the general doctor who had been treating me had prescribed endep (for my sciatica) in complete contraindication with my regular cymbalta. Not only has it been causing the severe fatigue, but it CAUSES weight GAIN!!! And hunger, and Water retention, dry mouth, emotional lability! So, in order to treat weight-related sciatica, the doctor gave me a pill that causes gain?! And a high dose of it to boot!!! Soooooo angry!!!! I've been going crazy the last few weeks! I thought I just didn't have the willpower! Then I find out its not a question of willpower at all! It's a miracle I didn't GAIN weight, and that would have been very very bad!!! Now I have to gradually come off the stuff so I don't get insomnia and all sorts of other side effects... And I thought the OxyContin had been bad!!! Bloody endep! Bloody doctors!!!! So anyway, here's hoping all you folks on myfitnesspal will notice a marked improvement in my eating again over the next couple of weeks, and my friends and DH notice I'm less cranky!!! To everyone on any medication: please get a second opinion, you never know if even the doctor you trust implicitly (as I did) can miss something big!!! Peace!

    I Need Help!!!

Sounds like you have soft calorie syndrome from being too tight (or having a lot of inflammation in there from so much vomiting). As you've discovered, that can cause weight gain instead of weight loss, and you're probably hungry because soft and slider foods provide virtually no satiety. So going back to your surgeon, 'fessing up about what's been going on, and getting a small unfill is probably the best course of action. Under no circumstances should you let anyone not experienced with band fills, least of all your own child, attempt to add or remove saline from your band. Someone without experience in that is too likely to fail to access your port and can puncture your tubing. Also, band fills are done with a special needle, and I'm not telling you what it's called because that's not something your daughter needs to know unless she plans a career in bariatric care. If your surgeon yells at you, it'll probably be out of sheer frustration that you didn't come back for help earlier. The surgeons I've talked to all hate it when patients are lost to aftercare, because it's impossible for them to help a patient who never comes back for follow-up.

my pre-op was blood samples for testing... I don't know why you are worried about a weight gain on your pre-op...if you are doing the liquid protein diet, you should be fine... I have been on it 10 days and have lost over 10 pounds... relax! You'll be fine!

    Weight Gain

I am scheduled to be sleeved on October 16th. What happens if you gain weight after the supervised diet and exercise classes are done? Ever since I got the call for my surgery date I have been excited, scared, anxious and just about every other emotion you can get during this. I'm just wondering what happens if I do gain weight. Another question I have is....I have my pre op on oct. 4 th. what do I need to expect for that? They said something about test I know I have a class...but if I don't pass a test it will have to be rescheduled. I'm not sure what test it would be.

5 Things You're Looking Forward To!

Quitting all my diabetes meds, high blood pressure meds so my body can go back to functioning naturally. Waking up feeling good and up not like I was hit with a mack truck. Being my old cheerful happy self again before the weight gain. Go back to work feeling great and healthy. Not being the fat girl at the family holiday party and have everyone give me the lecture on how to lose weight. Feeling wonderful and not caring what people say. Mainly just take care of my self for once and be self aware that focusing on others and not me got me to where I am today! Self Love and be in Harmony. Go on a honeymoon with my new husband and not postpone it just because I felt I didn't look good. I was brave enough to have a white wedding as a plus size girl but not ready for a honeymoon. Lol.
  25. I really don't know what it was yesterday....but it happens once or twice a month.... guess near PMS.... but I'm back to normal today.... but I'm gonna try to focus on protein from now on.... I got a problem with getting chicken & meat down.... but I focused more on milk, cheese & eggs..... snacked on dates.... the crunchy ones, don't know if you have these..... I always drink coffee with skimmed powder milk & fructose instead of sugar....hate splenda.... cook my food with olive oil only.... I hope I get back on track.... I don't mind stalling, cause it happened before, but I get terrified of weight gain....
