Back to work after one week??

I don't think I could have done it. I'm a little over 2 weeks out and I went back to work part time the last 2 days. I found it very taxing. It partly how tired I feel, but maybe even more so that I'm mentally drained. I work from home, but have a mentally challenging job, so I have to have a clear head. Now that I'm actually starting real food, it's getting better every day. The other challenge early on was just how much of my energy and thought went in to keeping up with my liquid and protein intake. I'm afraid that if I was trying to work as well, I likely would have ended up dehydrated or worse.

    Food Before and After Photos

Made a pot roast from part of that brisket I bought a couple weeks ago (Also broke it down into 5.5lbs of ground beef/ stew meat and a corned beef for next week.). I actually spit out the last piece of roast I was chewing because I felt full. It was also onions and potatoes.
  3. Did anyone go back to work after one week of surgery? Office desk job. How was it with sitting? Was it hard to stay on track with sips and walking? Did you have belching or Nausea?

Tips on what to expect first few weeks

My only real advise for anyone having surgery is to just stick to your plan and TRUST the process. Especially for the first month post op your weight may do weird thing (stall or even go up) but this process does work. Just trust it and the weight will come off.
  5. Desire I feel the same!! Yesterday was 6 weeks, I’m in a stall at 25 pounds and I know I shouldn’t compare but we’re humans and it’s what we do. I am following to a T as well and I’m seeing others at 6 weeks or less eating sooo much more or such different things than what I’m eating, nearly same starting weight, and losing much more. Right now I can’t have any fruits, veggies, carbs, etc. I keep hearing to eat more calories but I guess diet culture has taught me against that for so many years it’s a hard concept. I’m doubting myself a lot which I know I should be proud of 25 pounds but I get in my own head. You’re not alone, and now either am I and there’s some comfort in that so thank you!
  6. Hi! Excited...nervous....scared. I'm sure all the normal emotions pre surgery. Looking for advice on what to expect in hospital immediately after surgery and the weeks after. Any "wish someone had told me this" type of advice???

    Before and After Pics

I’ve lost 60 lbs in just under 4 months. 🤗 liquids: all I drink is water (64 Oz) and I have 1 cup of coffee a day. I have lost my taste for coffee. I go through phases craving other things. I haven’t done Crystal Lite except for my first 2 weeks post op. I felt like the longer I drank it, my weight loss slowed. I have always noticed that about me and artificial sweeteners in steady, large amounts. on the liquid phase of post op, I had bone broth, sugar free jello, sugar free ice pops, AND water. 🤦🏻‍♀️ there is some recipe floating around on this site I think for mashed potatoes with cream of chicken soup and the lumps are strained out. It’s delicious and I was happy to have that for dinner every day. It’s all really a blur now. I had no appetite and I still dont, so I made sure I met hydration levels. When I was able to do that, I added in protein. I think I used Atkins because I detested Fairlife and Core and the others. The surgeon told me to be hydrated first and then concentrate on protein. Atkins has a 30 g of protein shake that I try to have once a day now. I know that I don’t eat anywhere near the calories I am suppose to, but I am simply not hungry and I take my vitamin with iron so I’m not going to worry about it. my biggest most constant craving is salad. 🤣🤣🤣 With a small amount of sugar free salad dressing and crisp lettuce, and white meat chicken (Panera), I’m good. I try to meet the protein numbers with Atkins Protein Wafer Crisp bars (1 a day). I read every single label before I buy anything, and I’m enjoying cooking for the first time in forever. Making things yourself is a great way to be sure you are getting what you need. Shrimp, salmon, egg white/egg salad are all things I enjoy. mom wracking my brain trying to remember 2 days post op. I know I was supposed to drink clear s/f Gatorade or something, but I was so nauseous (even with patches, etc) that I did ice pops, jello, and the next day I was able to graduate to broth, and protein shakes. I stayed on liquids for a long time-maybe 5-6 weeks because I wasn’t hungry, it was the dead of summer, and I didn’t feel like going on to the soft foods phase. Mashed potatoes were great, and I literally could not eat more than a tablespoon before I was full.

    Pre-pre-op diet question

I am dreading the two week pre op was wondering do they give you an appetite suppressent at any point in the process? I know that is a strange question , just curious. Really find this forum so helpful!
  9. Hi - 5 weeks post op from Gastric Bypass. I am having bloating in my abdomen and discomfort (feeling full ALOT).. Sometimes I have nausea. I understand this can happen after I eat but this is sometimes when I wake up (10+ hours since eating) I am also struggling to have bowel movements. I took a stool softener every day before surgery to help but I've been told not to take since somedays are mainly diarhea. I am losing weight but worry. Thoughts?

    8 weeks out and scared

Well, what exactly is "poor eating and bad choices"? It's a vague statement. Anyway, take it as a warning. Think hard about your current diet and ask yourself "Did I really mess up? And if so why did I mess up after only a few weeks? Is this diet I follow sustainable for me? Can I do this long term? Or am I going to burn out within a few months?"

    Terrified and thinking of cancelling

It’s perfectly normal to have some concerns & worries. It is a totally new experience even if you had a band before. But, yeah, stop reading the horror stories they only screw with your head & truthfully they are very rare. People who’ve had a complication often post more because they are seeking help & support. You can find horror stories about anything if you look for them. I’ve a good one about a friend who had a pedicure. I eat out regularly (at real restaurants) & socialise often with friends & family & it doesn't cause me any issues or impact my enjoyment of the occasion. I usually order a main now through while I was losing I ordered entrees. And I’m not afraid to ask to take home the leftovers either. I’ll have a glass of wine or similar when socialising but I take ages to drink it. I don’t enjoy it as much as I did before but that’s me & again it doesn’t stop my friends enjoying several more glasses than me. The short time you have to be the most vigilant & restrictive with your eating & drinking is exactly that - a short time. The staged return to eating is only about 6 weeks in total. After that, you slowly introduce other foods back. Use the time while you are losing to explore new flavours & textures as well as trying healthier food options, cooking styles, recipes, etc. I actually wasn’t really interested in eating anything not nutritionally dense while I was losing & I never felt like I was making sacrifices or giving up any foods. I didn’t want to go back to my old way of eating - it’s why I was obese. But that’s part of the being mentally ready mentioned above. As for dumping, if you do experience it you’ll learn to eat around it. Same with any other idiosyncrasies your body may have post surgery. It’s much like how anyone with an allergy or sensitivity to certain foods or food types acts. Don’t be afraid to question your surgeon further about what you may expect with your surgery. Regardless of whether you decide to go ahead as scheduled or decide to wait a little longer. You have to do what’s right for you. All the best.
  12. Hello from Canada. My reasons for surgery is peaked at the thought of my new born daughter needing me. I just turned 50 when she was born (my first and only). I thought I could not bear the thought of dieing at 65 from some complication due to poor health. I am diabetic and also suffered from ever increasing pains. Back, hands, shoulder pains. It never seem to end a new ache every day almost. I lost and gained weight too many times and had been looking at bypass surgery for over ten years as an opinion but was still undecided and often spoke and researched about peoples success and failures. I'm trying to be very realistic with my expectations of where I am am going from where I am. I have read here about some struggles some are having with staying with the strictness of the new diet routine. How some struggle with keeping food down and even reading about a concerned wife telling us about her husband eating beacon and eggs at week 3 or 4. He seems to have giving up or is in denial about how he had to rethink his relationship with the foods that have lead him to do the surgery in the first place. We all will struggle some more than others. This forum will for me allow me to be inspired and hopefully inspire in return to be better and push through the hard times ahead. If we're easy we would not be here. But we are here to help and encourage. Blessings for everyone and continued success. Keep at it!!

    Weight regain

Start by making small changes. Drop one or two of those snacks. Swap out a poor cooking style to a healthier method. Swap out a less nutritious food for a more nutritious one. Check your protein intake & if it’s low, add more protein to your diet. Same with water. Check your portion sizes too. And so on until you are back to eating much like you were when you were close to or at your goal weight. You don’t have to make all the changes at once. Make one change & then in two or so weeks, make another change. Small changes are much easier to cope with & manage.
  14. I had no gas pain with my sleeve but after my gall i did. But it wasn’t a throbbing aching pain more discomfort. A bit like strained muscles after a hard workout. My back hurts way more when it goes out. The gas pain took about a week to disappear. Really had no surgical pain after three/four days with either surgery. But of course everyone is different & we tolerate different levels of pain. For gas pain, walking is best. You don’t have to walk miles - even lapping your yard a few times a day helps as does going up & down steps, marching on the spot & lifting your arms up & down. A heating pad can alleviate pain too. The gas is used to fill your abdominal cavity not your tummy so very little escapes through your digestive system (burping & farting). The gas is actually absorbed by water in your blood stream & is breathed out. Which is why walking, marching in the spot, etc. helps as you breathe more heavily with the activity. The excess gas rises & often gets caught under your upper lungs which causes the upper shoulder pain.

    8 weeks out and scared

We're human, and are all capable of bad choices. Just go back to the plan. New day, clean slate. A couple days doesn't have to be forever. I started losing my mind between weeks 2 and 3. But it gets better. You'll be ok.
  16. I am 8 weeks out from surgery, I have had a couple of days of really poor eating and bad choices. I feel lost and afraid I am not sure what to do I don’t want to fail at this!
  17. I had no gas pain and my doctor insisted that I get up and walk every now and then which I did. My brother set a timer and would wake me up to take a walk around the hospital ward every 30 mins or so which helped a lot. My sister who had her surgery three weeks before me didn't walk that much and had some gas pain. The doctor gave her some suppositories which helped a lot. Good luck and I hope all goes well with the surgery.

    Help with nausea?

Hello. Sorry I've only just seen this. Yes it did resolve thankfully. I ended up in hospital 3 times but at the 8 week mark I got alot better. Focus on getting liquids first because I ended up really dehydrated. I remember thinking what have a done to myself and really regretting it. Now I'm 9 stone lighter and it was the best decision I have ever made. Any doubts make an appointment with your doctor for help with anti nausea medication. I was on it for a while but I don't use it anymore. It really helped at the time though.
  19. I'm in GA, but am working with Alabama Surgical Associates. https://www.alweightlosscenter.com/payment-options/self-pay-pricing/. I have UHC and our policy doesn't cover any bariatric procedures. So far I had a phone consult with Dr. Doucette. He wants me to lose 30 pounds before surgery - which because of my work schedule should be the end of Dec. I have a weight check in call with the Dr. in 2 weeks.
  20. I haven't had the surgery yet. Nut my doctor had me on Mounjaro 3 month pre op. Mounjaro is the best appetite suppressant. If I have any stalls I do plan to reach out to my doctor to see if getting back on Mounjaro will be good. Good luck!

    No medical support

Just as an update, I went and saw my primary doctor and she was pissed at how the er visit went as well as urgent care, she told me the guy who came out and said they can't to fluids only in urgent care and I would need to go to the ER was wrong ( he intentionally lied to me so he would have 1 less patent) and she checked and he didn't even talk to the provider working before telling me that, then wrote me down as a LWOS (left with out being seen) she was very unhappy with both situations, she is also filing a report because she feels that either/both of those situations could have ended alot worse, especially had I not already been ontop of trying to correct the dehydration. She also gave me 2 bags of fluid, and has me coming back in later this week, as well as the beginning of next week for more. She said it might be more then I need but she'd rather that then not enough and absolutely doesn't want me to be treated that way again. Sent from my SM-G996U using BariatricPal mobile app

    October 2022 surgery support

I'm getting so nervous and also excited! Just 11 days to go! every time I wonder if im making the right decision I am reminded by some health issue or a painful joint. Today it was feeling huge in my hair stylists tiny chair and how embarrassed I felt to feel and look so squished into it. I'm also looking forward to my HS hopefully going into remission or at least getting manageable!! Can anyone share with me what their first week was like home? I spend 4 days at the hospital and come home to an empty house on the 21st. My husband wont be home until the 24th- is it smart to ask for a friend to stay with me the first night or two? I'm concerned I may have issues standing up after sitting/laying down the most.
  24. Thank you all so much for advice and your input, I do follow a low carb diet due to insulin resistance with PCOS. I think that unfortunately I may be kinda stuck here, I’ll keep following the plan and hope and pray for some movement in the right direction but I think for my mental health it’s not helping to beat myself up every week that the scale has stopped moving.. cause it hasn’t moved in 5 months…. I’m happier now at my 220lbs than I was at the 289 lbs before surgery so I think to give myself a little mental break I need to figure out how to be more positive about the small success I have had over the last 10 months. Focusing on the “not good enough” mindset has really triggered my depression and sense of self hate again and I definitely don’t want to get back to that where I need medications to get out of bed daily because those depression meds made me gain a ton. Gotta try and find some positivity somewhere right? Thanks!

I am super excited & nervous! 🤩 My surgery is next week on October 12! I am currently on my post-op diet of 4 protein shakes a day & one meal (basically meat & veggies), the day before I can only have 5 protein shakes! Wishing everyone a successful surgery!
