    Weight loss

I had band revision to RNY 14/11/2016. I've lost 55lbs to date. It's slow and every month I stall. I have the same fear every month that I'm not gonna lose anymore. Be prepared for a slow long slog to the finish line. I have another 50lbs to go [emoji37]
  2. This is about how it is working for me. I'm really enjoying the journey this time. I am a revision patient. I'm enjoying planning healthy meals and cooking more thoughtfully for my young kids. With my band I wasn't eating healthily and constantly worrying about needing an adjustment. I lost about 19 my first month and this month will probably be around 8. I need to pick up the exercise when I get back home in September. That usually slightly increases my rate of loss but really it's the food.

    Bypass or Sleeve???

My surgeon gave me the same option either would be approved. He told me he recommended the sleeve and if years later I hadn’t lost enough with sleeve I could do revision to rny. Revision!! My plan is to have one surgery, not a potential second. Also I have pretty bad gerd after telling him that he suggested it would be best for rny, he said if I suffer it would be worse after sleeve. 5 day until surgery!!

    Liquid vitamins

I would get the go-ahead from your nut. before buying anything. My nut specializes in bariatrics with a focus on vitamin deficiency and she is very clear that our vitamins need to be designed specifically for bariatric patients. All vitamins are not created equally and since our bodies don't digest and absorb things the same if you aren't taking the right stuff you might as well not take anything. I had RNY in 2005 and have had a large weight regain. I am having revision surgery and I am with a completely different surgeon and nut then from before. I have had a lot of trouble with vitamin deficiency because I was taking stuff like Centrum, Citracal, regular iron and b12. None were bariatric specific and now I a lot of problems specifically with Vit. D. Every doctor and nut has different beliefs and approaches so I suggest following the rules you were given but also do your own research.
  5. Hi all, After two failed lab bands, I am scheduled to have the band removed and revised to a sleeve. Despite my best efforts, my surgeon insists that I have the band removed, allow 3 months 'rest' time for my stomach then have the sleeve procedure. Has anyone had the same experience and how did you manage/control your weight over that time? I'm terrified I will gain back majority, if not all of the 60lbs I've lost this far in that 3 months. Any story's or tips from fellow banders/ex banders/current sleevers would be appreciated! Cheers

    1 year post op!

Thank you for showing your amazing progress. I am in the process of getting a revision and this photo is making me feel excited. Also you look Amazing!
  7. I'm planning on revising to the sleeve. I've had problems with my band with vomiting. Not sure if it's from not chewing appropriately or what. But I was just wondering if you don't chew well with the sleeve does it cause problems? I have a class 3 malocclusion. Basically my teeth don't meet in the back and I literally have to push my lower jaw forward to chew. Sometimes I feel this causes problems with me chewing well. So I was just wondering if this will cause problems with the sleeve? I may try to ask my surgeon tomorrow if I remember but I wanted some input from people who have the sleeve TIA
  8. An experienced revision surgeon will have the skill, knowledge and resources to help you make a decision about what to do. Implanting a band around a virgin stomach is much different than putting a new band on a damaged and surgically altered stomach. Best of luck to you!

    Stressed to the max !

@@honeysmash I'm glad you'll get to have a revision. I get my band removed and revised to gastric bypass all in one surgery in January 2016 (soonest insurance will approve it). Keep me posted if you don't mind. Take care!

    Lap Band to Gastric Sleeve

If you go to the revision section of this website, you will see a whole lot of us with the same problem. Yes, I just had my band taken out last week and sleeve done. I am so happy. It's something to think about. Good luck with making a decision.
  11. Your surgeon is correct. I previously had the lap band, it failed me & I regained nearly all the weight. This past July, I had a revision done to remove the band and get the gastric bypass, in two months, I've lost 84 lbs and I feel absolutely great! Not to say I didn't have a few complications, which worked themselves out, but I'm very happy I had it done because I feel confident I won't gain it back Good luck to you & everyone embarking on this journey!

    Not A Fun Topic...

I'm getting about 50 oz of water sometimes more per day. This is my 2nd chance, had a revision. First time I didn't have issues like this. I'm taking a stool softener every night..... Doesn't seem to help much.
  13. I am having a revision from sleeve to bypass due to severe acid reflux issue. When I had my sleeve, I was on a forum here and a girl introduced me to a closed/secret group on Facebook. All of the members on there had surgery the same month, so we all were going through the same things at the same time. As a result we have formed friendships in addition to support. Is there a group for Feb 2016 patients?
  14. Looking to have band to sleeve revision, will be self pay. Would love to find a surgeon in the Huntsville, AL area. Any suggestions would be helpful! How long will it take from first appointment to surgery date, what is required for self pay as far as preop tests, psych evaluation, preop supervised diet etc

    New Mom and gaining weight

I understand your frustration. Here's my story. My pregnancy was complicated too, but in a different way than yours. I was banded July 7, 2009. I started at 283 and got down to 218 by March. I held steady between 223-228 until I got pregnant in 2012. I had a very tough (but so welcomed!) pregnancy and got up to 244. I was hospitalized Dec 20 and she was born Dec 28. I was discharged Dec 31, but we didn't go home until Feb 23. By then, I was back at 228. Fast forward until today, and I'm sitting here at 267. Apparently, the stress of her birth sent me into a Hashimoto's tail spin. My thyroid was decimated, but I didn't know that until this March. My levels were all over the place but because of staff changes at my primary care office, no single person was really keeping track. Thankfully, my neighbor who is now a FNP working in that office took a look at saw that something was fishy. She referred me to an endocrinologist. Despite being prediabetic and having PCOS and thyroid issues, I had never been referred. I have tried to get back on track several times, and nothing seems to work. I used a trained for months, I did weightwatchers, phentermine and Topamax, myfitnesspal, you name it. It was the old me again... I had to have my band completely unfilled while I was pregnant due to hyperemesis. I was at 5cc in a 10cc band. Since then, I have not been able to tolerate a fill over 2.5cc. Still about 3 days a week and sometimes more, I can't eat anything except sliders stuff until later afternoon or early evening. By then I have either eaten a ton of garbage or am starving. When I can eat, I don't get full any faster than before surgery. It's like the only thing my band does for me now is cause me trouble. My endo wants me to have a revision to sleeve or bypass. I see the surgeon tomorrow. I don't know how I feel about this. I chose band for many reasons, and I'm sad to now think I made the wrong choice and have to essentially start over.
  16. I've pretty much decided on the bypass. I've read too many posts of people having problems with the band and a lot of band to bypass revisions. I am so excited to begin the process.
  17. Well...I lost my insurance. I had my surgery on December 6, 2013. I have had a lot of issues with my band. I had to go back into surgery on January 14 do to having to have a Port Revision done. My stitch came undone. Thank god it happened when it did, while I still had insurance. Well ...I lost my insurance. Love Obama!! NOT! Anyway..Not sure how Im suppose to get my fills and still get the medical care that I need. I know the fills are going to be costly. Im just at a loss.. Iv only had one fill. And another surgery. Was suppose to get my 2nd fill on March 4th. Well...Now what? Anyone else gone thru this? I feel so defeated. Lapbandchic73
  18. Had first doctor visit today to discuss band to sleeve revision. I was nervous and my red face certainly showed it! To my surprise, he said he would do EGD on Monday morning and scheduled surgery for the 16th of December (I am self pay). Yikes! No liquid diet either, just low fat. I can handle that! This is getting real, FAST!
  19. What qualifies a person as a Vet? Can I claim that hat? I think there are so few because after the first couple of years we get less obsessed with weight loss and just go back to “ normal “ life. We don’t need the constant support and feel we should just be getting on with things. We come back when something has gone wrong and we are staring down the barrel of a revision. At that point we feel like we have a lot of experience but we are also confused and apprehensive and a little bit scared. Can we do it again and be successful. Will we survive that bl@@dy awful preop diet for a second time etc I know what worked for me the first time was education education education.
  20. Well some insurance companies only cover one WLS procedure for life...I would call the insurance company directly to see what the requirements are.... Alot of people like to rely on the doctor's office to do the work for them, and when something is missed and their stuff is denied, they like to blame the doctor's office when if they called the insurance company themself it would've saved time... I called and was told revision would not be covered on my policy so I self paid
  21. I had mt surgery in 2017 and didn't have much luck in the loosing weight department. I have an appointment with my surgeon and ask for a revision. I am unsure if my insurance horizon health nj will cover it a second time and what are the new requirements to have the surgery done again. Any help would be appreciated [emoji120] Sent from my SM-G981U using BariatricPal mobile app
  22. Hello all, I was banded the first time in 2006. I had a slip in 2009 and had a realize band implemented. I had complications with the band again and on May 25th was revised from band to RNY. I have to admit, the pain was intense. I am 10 days post op and am back at work and still have pain (though not very severe). I work in an office, so I am sedentary and am not concerned about the pain. I have lost almost 15 pounds being on the liquid diet (now able to eat pudding / yogurt / etc). I am not really sure how to measure my weight loss as I was really not morbidly obese when being revised. I can tell you I was 311 in 2006 when banded. I had dropped to 175 and then after the slip moved up to 240 in 2009 when I had the realize band put in. I was at 214 when I had the revision and am now, basically 200. I would like to be at a fit 175-190, so once the healing is done I plan on hitting the gym again. I am rambling, I know, and am not really being organized with my thoughts. I am just writing as I think about it. I just wanted to document my story and am willing to answer any questions or try to help anyone I can.
  23. Hello, I am trying to find a psychologist for my psych eval, and a nutritionist. My surgeon is Dr. Juarez in Phoenix, so they don't have a list of psychologists and nutritionists outside of Maricopa County. I'm getting a revision, and they won't do it in Tucson. I would be so grateful if anyone has the name of someone who does psych evals, and nutrition counseling in Tucson or Cochise County. The directory on my insurance company website is awful to use, and if I call the insurance company, they just offer to walk me through the web site. Thanks so much!!! Kristy
  24. Hi... I had bypass surgery in 2005 and lost about 80-90 lbs. I didn't have too much excess skin...it was mostly cellulite that was abundant. I don't think there really is "too" much you can do to prevent sagging/excess skin. Once your weight levels off ( you reach goal) or you weight loss starts slowing down you can probably look into doing plastic surgery. With my first surgery I developed hernias near my incision so my surgeon went in to remove the hernias and in doing so she did a mini Tummy Tuck which helped to tighten my abs and flatten my stomach a bit. My current surgeon ( revised my bypass to a sleeve) offers a procedure called a Tummy Corset which is basically a tummy tuck as well. So you might want to check with your surgeon to see if he/she offers any procedures for post surgery that will help to eliminate skin or sagging. I know there are quite a few creams, etc. out there that claim to tighten the skin....but not sure if any of them work. I tried countless cellulite creams and none of them did anything for me. I would definitely sit down with a personal trainer and/or your doctor to come up with a work out regimen that is geared toward toning/tightening the areas that you feel you may have a bit of trouble with after you have reached goal. That is probably going to be the only thing that you can do to try and combat the issue before hand. I'm just 16 days post-op but once I am cleared for strength training... I am definitely going to start working out to tone as much as possible. I worked out a lot the first time... again didn't really have sagging skin... just a bulge from the hernias a lot of cellulite on my thighs and buttocks...that was it.

    Easiest psych clearance!

I was definitely nervous about my appointment, but I filled out all the paperwork and answered all the questions she asked and it turns out I'm perfectly sane (and mentally prepared for my revision) All that stressing for nothing! Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App
