This will be a breeze. Carnival ships offer a buffet breakfast with egg station, they offer everything from boiled to customized omelets. Yogurt (will not be low in sugar so be careful). Lunch will be a bit trickier because when your off ship it will be like being at home, when your on, there's always the buffet which will have cottage cheese and other proteins and veggies. Dinner in the dining room on Carnival is always my favorite (Never the buffet) they offer 4 or 5 of the same proteins every night so it will be easy to find a chicken or steak (If your cleared...I'm 5 months out and still not cleared for steak) with veggies, plus a few different "specials". Since your dining staff in the dining room is the same every night, talk with them about your restrictions either before the first dinner or at the first dinner, they will keep them in mind. Most importantly...HAVE A GREAT TIME! What ports of call are you considering?

Thank you for the advice!! What kind of real butter do you use? Country crock? I am good about drinking water and staying away from pop. So far I have been eating Greek yogurt for breakfast, chicken, brusselsprouts and red potatoes for lunch and chicken and veggies for dinner. I am doing ok but last night I wanted to cave so badly. I didn't, but I almost did!! I'm just trying to get through two weeks with out cheating because I feel like if I cheat early on I will have less success.

Hi Sandy, sorry just saw your message. I'm 5 weeks out now and can eat soft foods now but not doing so well. Tried lean pork last night but hurt even after I chewed a lot. Ended up eating yogurt. I guess it will just take time. Stomach must be super small. I am still burping a lot. All in all I would do it all over again. How are you feeling?

Am I eating too much ? Am I eating too much? Protein drink in morning 1/2 cup yogurt Protein water 16.9 oz throughout the day Protein drink made with 8 oz soy milk I feel like I don't know if I should have the protein water and soy in addition to the 3 protein drinks and meals or if it's too much! I figured the soy could count as my afternoon meal and I could count the water as the evening meal

Actually, your routine sounds like a pretty good one at your stage. You are hungry because your body is screaming for raw materials to start building. 1200 calories is too low for that much activity. I would add that you shouldn't fear fat, juust avoid the crappy kind. Milk, cheese, yogurt, etc... are good ideas if you are weightlifting. Not only does it have natures perfect blend of fat/carbs/protein, milk has naturally occuring growth hormone for, you know, growing muscles! Personally, I think you should be in the 1500-1800 calorie range. And eventually when/if your lifting gets to the 100+ lbs major lifts, you will be in the 2000-2500 range. My surgeon reviewed my diet logs and lifting diary and said he thinks I should go to 3500 and I told him it just wasn't possible. He's a lifter, so I think he was thinking with that part of his brain instead of the former fat guy just wants to be healthy!

Thanks everyone. Thankfully the travel is a once a year thing and the rest of the year I work from my home site. I did bring protein drinks and bars so I tried to use those for meals as much as I could. I mostly stuck to chicken when we went out, had a burger without the bun one night as well. I just dislike not having that control over my meals. It's nice to have someplace to come to for encouragement from people in my shoes. Some of the people I traveled with know, some don't but none of them have first hand experience. I'm back to my yogurt, protein drinks, lean protein and cheese for my meals. I did avoid the pizza and opted for some tuna instead

Hi, I work as a Para Professional in the NYC Public School System. I'm 8 weeks post op and down 40 lbs. I thought it was going to be difficult as well. I use Mio flavoring in my 30 oz water bottle and sip it throughout the day. No problem whatsoever. After experiencing slight dehydration , you're going to find that you go out of your way to drink as much as you can. As for eating I pack a bag every nigh before I go to sleep. I alternate my snacks. For breakfast I have an egg or a yogurt or a protein shake. Around 10:30 I'll have some almonds or pretzel chips with Hummus or a Sargento snack pack. It's a little difficult at first but first but it gets alot easier as you go along. Best of luck on your journey !!!!

Sip Sip Sip ... Not Me !!
Please replied to ayanna_vsg's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
When I had my Leak test done the day after surgery, the nurse said "watch the screen as you drink" so you drink the chalky drink,& you can see your tiny skinny little stomach take the fluid, mine emptied really fast and the intestines went to work super fast he said, so that was good news! So emptying fast from fluids is good news, I'm 6days post op, no nausea , nothing negative (so far) & and I have no issues getting my protein shakes in or my water. When I eat Greek yogurt watered down, things slow down and I get full, usually I can eat it all, but I stirred in 1 tablespoon of peanut butter (NUT recommended)& i got full before being able to finish it. So everyone's a little different , just don't test it like someone else said, you don't need the tempatations. Have a great day! -
Boost Your Protein with Unflavored Protein Powder
BaileyBariatrics posted a topic in Weight Loss Surgery Magazine
Your surgeon and your dietitian say you need more protein. With a limited stomach pouch, how is that going to happen? You can add protein by adding unflavored powder to many things you are already eating and drinking. These can be added to a variety of foods and beverages including cooked cereals, flavored water or low-calorie sports drinks, light yogurts, unsweetened fruit purees, sugar-free puddings, protein shakes and smoothies, milk, decaf coffee or tea, cottage cheese, soups, broth and hummus or other bean dips. Finding unflavored protein in a single serve packet will allow you to sample a brand without having to buy the larger container first. Single serve packets of whey protein isolate are available online with Bariatric Fusion, Jay Robb and Unjury. Whey protein powder is also found in the bulk bins at Sprouts Farmers Market. You can buy a small amount to taste test. Our patients have also liked the larger containers of unflavored whey protein by brands like Inspire , Isopure (GNC, online) and online (online). Keep in mind, whey protein must be kept under 140 degrees, otherwise, it will curdle. Soy protein isolate is also available. Brands include GNC and brands like NOW Foods and Genisoy, which are available online and some natural foods stores. These will be in larger containers. Sprouts Farmers Market also has soy protein in their bulk bins, so that you can buy a small amount to taste test. Sometimes you can get a sample taste of unflavored protein in stores that sell natural foods, supplements and sports nutrition products. Ask about the return policy if you don’t like the product. There are many other brands of unflavored protein powders on the market. If you have a group of bariatric buddies, perhaps the buddies can buy different brands to try and share. This cuts the cost of taste testing. May your protein status be awesome! -

Thanks - I don't add ice but add 1/3 frozen banana, 1/2 cup plain Greek yogurt, 1/2 cup Almond milk, a scoop of unflavored protein powder and a packet of Truvia. I was never quite sure how to count it as all but the almond milk is 'solid'.

Ok so anytime i give my option[emoji3] i always tell people to check in with their NUT or Dr... so just based off of the one meal plan you've given us, i see some hidden sugar. Your body may be holding on to that extra suger. really read your lables on yogurt, peanut butter and almond milk. Also for me my body has always preferred a good balance of good carbs and protein. We are all different and our bodies like different things, with the help of your NUT try to change your diet up. Add more protein or add more good carbs. Continue to track your meals to see what works and what doesnt. Overall sounds like your doing a great job so dont get discouraged. And one day we may see SUN in seattle.[emoji1]

Post op phase 3 diet
mylighthouse replied to slothritis's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
When I was on my soft food phase I ate scrambled eggs, cottage cheese, yogurt, string cheese, baked salmon, chicken cooked in cream of chicken soup (to keep it nice and soft and moist), low carb meatloaf, canned carrots, canned green beans, mashed sweet potatoes. I stayed away from pork and beef, because they are too heavy and not soft or easy to chew, with the exception of meatloaf. I also got my protein in first and would have only a few bites of the soft vegetables. I didn't fill up on carbs, so when I ate sweet potatoes, it would just be a few bites. -
12 Days Post Op and I Feel like the food I'm eating daily is wrong.. HELP ME!
orionburn replied to chrissyliezl's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
What do you feel is high sugar/fat in your food list? Unless the soup is full fat & cream based I can't imagine the nutritional info being that terrible. Yes, you do need to be careful with soups as they can hide a lot of "bad" in them, but if you stick with light versions and avoid the heavy cream stuff they'll be fine in a diet. Greek yogurt is much better nutritionally than regular yogurts. I second the recommendation for the Oikos triple zero. They have some awesome flavors. I believe Yoplait makes a 100 calorie Greek yogurt that is really good as well. You're right in your thinking of getting into the habit of avoiding food with high sugar/carb content, but at this point your #1 goal is to focus on protein (60g minimum) and water intake (64 oz min). Protein shakes can get boring as hell in that phase but you're better off having that over a soup that is high carb/fat and little protein. If you feel your current protein power/drink is too high in sugar than look to other brands. These days most stores like Wal-Mart even have a decent selection of protein powders, or get something from Amazon if you don't have many options nearby. Just search the board for "protein powder recommendations" and you'll get a ton of results. Just skim through some threads and you'll see what the popular brands are. -

Hi ALL:) I am 9 months out and have lost 99 lbs!!! My question is I have hit a stall at 177 lbs. (down from 275). I'm looking at what I'm eating and wondering if I may be eating too many carbs. For example, I do eat a couple handfuls of pretzels like every other day, and sometimes a piece of toast. Mainly though my diet consists of veggies and fruit, string cheese, and deli slices, greek yogurt, light Soups. Any ideas? Have a great day!!!

I'm going to look into the slim fast and yogurt pops, thank you. I also have to find a new multi vitamin, I have gummies and forgot that they are not good to take after the surgery. Someone mentioned a liquid one, just not sure where they got it from.

Also I got yogurt pops from whole food which helps add protein to my diet so glad I can finally eat a whole organic soft scrambled egg in the morning! Good Luck to us all! LG!
