    Sleeve Op in the UK

Hi Helen, my name is Viv, i had my op on the 1st of feb, i'm in south wales, i agree there is not a lot of info in the UK, sorry to hear you are having pain, i was lucky the only real pain i had was from the gas which lasted about 2 days, in fact i was up and walking about within 3 or 4 hours of the op, so i was really lucky, i am eating solids now, but i feel as though i am still eating too much??? i've read on here that in the first month that people have lost huge amounts of weight but for me it is really slow going, i have to return to the hospital in 2 weeks, so hopefully i will find out if there is a problem, apart from that i feel really great, i am increasing my exercise now, so hopefully that will help.anyway i hope that you are doing ok and feeling good about yourself, i haven't found any support groups where i live but this site has been great, the information and support here has really helped me get through some tough time, i was cancelled 3 times before i finally got the op and i got really fed up, but the girls/guys were really supportive. anyway all the best viv

    Sleeve Op in the UK

Hey Helen, I too am in the UK, South Wales... I didn't attend a support group either, but I do find this site very helpful; all my questions have been answered here! I found the first week and a bit to be the worst, soreness in the incision areas and hard to get comfy to sleep but other than that my recovery was really good. It will get better.... I am nearly 8mths out now, so if there is anything I can help with please give me a shout! Hiya Viv, I am in South Wales too... Shwmai!!!|! Where did you get your sleeve done? Like I said to Helen, if there is anyway I can help, give me a shout! I too am a slow loser, but I am losing and not gaining so I'll take that! It certainly is a rollercoaster ride for me but I am sure once I reach goal it will be more than worth it! Hey Angie,,, how the devil are you... glad to hear you are doing well... and fair play to you for not getting on the scales... I am still addicted to them and the bloody things ain't moving for me at the moment... let me know how it is 'up north'!! Oh, and not long before we see our boys .... yey!!! =]

    Needing Advice & Support

Stalls are normal. You don't lose weight every day or ever week. Your body needs to adjust. I had one month I lost zero pounds but 2 dress sizes. If you are eating right you have nothing to worry about the weight will come off.
  4. I am 10 weeks out from surgery and am happy to say I am down 42lbs! I get frustrated sometimes due to my impatience, but I have never lost this much weight so fast. My older brother just saw me this weekend and gave me a big WTG high five. My clothes fit me better and I am actually fitting in to stuff I havent for over two years. I thank God for his guidence in seeking out this surgery, Was it worth it? YES! I would do it again!. All praise to you Lord.
  5. I totally understand we live in a society of instant gratification. What ever weight I loose it doesn't seem to be fast enough. But I refuse to become obsessed with my weight so I only weigh in once a week.

    So I moved to Montana...

Might try an internet search. Here is one that is held monthly but there is probably more. http://montana.providence.org/hospitals/st-patrick/for-patients-and-visitors/support-group/ It describes a Weight Loss Surgery Support Group at the end.

    Weight loss in feet

Losing weight in my feet would be AMAZING. I wear a size 11, and most stores here only carry up to a 10. I doubt it'll happen, though. My feet aren't really fat... Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App

    New here - need help/advice

Hi, I live in Mesquite, Texas (a 'burb of Dallas). I'm investigating the entire lapband process. I've been referred to Dr. Richard Anderson at the Surgery Center of Dallas. Has anyone used him? Can anyone tell me anything about him? I admit, I'm not thrilled at the concept of "going under the knife," even if it is a minor procedure. I've looked into gastric bypass in the past and have seen several doctors, but after only a 30 minute or less talk with them, they've all told me the usual "you're fat, go home, lose weight," and don't want to remotely help me. I'm absolutely terrified I'm going to be told the same thing. I've had 2 of my doctors tell me lately, that unless I do the lapband or gastric bypass, I am going to die. I do NOT know how to talk to new doctors any longer without getting really angry at their attitudes. PLEASE ... any help would be appreciated. I am disabled, but not because of my weight, although I *do* know that losing weight would help with my medical conditions. I'm absolutely desperate at this point as diets do NOT work for me, no matter how strictly I follow them. BTW, traveling to another city for this procedure, regardless of whether it's Waco, Ft. Worth, Houston or wherever, is close to impossible due to my disabilities. It NEEDS to be Dallas. Any advice and help is greatly appreciated. Thanks, Laura

    Having second thoughts....

I completely feel the same way! When I first started on this road I started eating healthier, I used to drink sodas all day long at least 6. Now I'm down to 1 a day. Because I know I've got to give them up once I have the surgery. I'm scheduled for Nove. 26th. Now that it's getting closer I eat like a pig, I'm very nervous about the whole thing, and I wonder if this is right for me to. I've been reading Weight loss surgery for dummies and have realized that this is normal. This is such a life changing decision I think we all have to weigh all the factors. I know it's right for me, and I'm ready for it to happen. But I still can't put the food down. Then that makes others around me who know I'm having the surgery doubt I can do it after. That with the over eating has caused me alot of depression lately. I'm just trying to deal the best I can. I hope it helps you knowing that someone else is going thru the same thing.
  10. This was me! I was sleeved on 4/27/15. I got down to goal and kept that weight for over a year. I am currently pregnant and still within goal weight range. Anyway, I found that food was really no longer a comfort for me. Yes, food is great. yes, I still crave certain foods sometimes. But, it is not what I run for now. I cannot eat like I used to. I practice a diet of moderation. I eat chips, cookies, cake, ice cream, Chinese, Mexican, pasta, you name it. Just not everyday, and just not very much. I actually take the time to listen to my body and realize that most of the time I am not really hungry. I also am committed to exercise. Before getting pregnant I was running 5 days a week, going to weight lifting class 2 times a week, and zumba once a week. I also picked up some other hobbies like sewing, scrapbooking, soap-making, etc. I find that when I am idle, I think about food more. I am almost always in motion...from working, to chasing my toddler, to doing school work, to training our puppy, planting flowers, etc. I just have so much more energy now (even pregnant) and an object in motion tends to stay in motion. If I try to lie around all day, I feel disgusting. Before, I used to spend all of my time on the couch watching TV or reading a book. I think you are doing well by seeking counseling. It helps.
  11. I have been on a one for about 4 months. They said I was too tight so they loosened me the week after Thanksgiving. I have now gained 9 pounds in 3 weeks. I am eating healthy and still working out. I go in for a fill the 11th. I feel awlful and am regarding my band. I'm almost to my year mark. I had lost 65 pounds now it is 56 pounds. I still have 44 more pounds to go.
  12. I lost 16 pounds in my first 8 days after surgery, then I weighed in again today (13 days out) and I've gained a pound! What the heck!
  13. Got my band on 4/14/11 and am completely happy with it. I have about 3 lbs to goal and go between 8s and 10s. I recently got an until and happy to report that I am holding my own and not gaining.

    revision approved!

Thanks so much! revision is due to non stop horrible reflux. I also have gained back 40 of the 107 lbs I lost
  15. I've always been an emotional eater and as I get myself ready for surgery next week, I'm wondering how the veterans...those who have lost the weight and kept it off for more than a year or two...dealt with stress and other emotions, once you were no longer acting out with food. I've just started seeing a therapist, to work on these issues, but there's nothing like hearing from those who have lived it. What worked/works for you? I'm looking for tools to help me succeed. Thanks!

    Requirements before surgery

so i had to do 6 months supervised diet.. which was a monthly visit to my nutritionist. i was just put on a lowcarb diet and told to track my meals on myfitnesspal. i would see her every month and weigh in. she would document my progress. your surgeon will have his requirements (maybe lose a set amount of weight and complete various labs) and the insurance has its own requirements (for example: bmi over 35 with health issues or over 40 with no issues). You will have an orientation with the surgeons office which will explain everything to you and how the process works.
  17. I think many of us have that problem, this holiday season. I have an article on stalls that may help explain your problem if it's not like mine (too much food). Our bodies use glycogen for short term energy storage. Glycogen is not very soluble, but it is stored in our muscles for quick energy -- one pound of glycogen requires 4 lbs of water to keep it soluble, and the average glycogen storage capacity is about 2 lbs. So, when you are not getting in enough food, your body turns first to stored glycogen, which is easy to break down for energy. And when you use up 2 lbs of glycogen, you also lose 8 lbs of water that was used to store the "easy" 10 lbs that most people lose in the first week of a diet. As you stay in caloric deficit, however, your body starts to realize that this is not a short term problem. You start mobilizing fat from your adipose tissue and burning fat for energy. But your body also realizes that fat can't be used for short bursts of energy so it starts converting some of the fat into glycogen, and rebuilding the glycogen stores. And as it puts back the 2 lbs of glycogen into the muscle, 8 lbs of water has to be stored with it to keep it soluble. So, even though you might still be LOSING energy content to your body, your weight will not go down or you might even GAIN for a while as you retain water to dissolve the glycogen that is being reformed and stored. I hope this helps.

    Weight gain

I gained 14 lbs since surgery day I am too bloated too eat or drink anything ((
  19. We are steroid heavy household, here. The important thing is understanding HOW you can gain weight. The meds won't cause you to form fat out of nothing, but it can change your behaviors to cause you to gain weight KWIM. So water weight- keep up on your fluids and eat foods that help flush fluids from the body. Increased appetite -make sure you're eating the right foods.
  20. Hi I am wondering if anyone has suggestions on toning hard places? Or good tips for toning... I have lost weight and now have flabby arms and loose skin in the neck area. Thanks:wink2:

    Jitters

Hi everyone, After years of failing to lose weight through diets and exercise, I decided WLS is the best option for me and I'm opting for the sleeve. What makes me worried/anxious/nervous - what if it doesn't work for me? I failed at every attempt I've tried! I've been struggling with my weight nearly all of my life, and have been through countless gyms, group exercises, weight loss programs (LA Weight Loss, Weight Watchers, Jenny Craig), and I've even tried weight loss products like Stacker 4 and Slim Fast. How many of us have been to they gym, worked out for hours, for months, and have barely seen any weight loss? I'm about 75% complete with my surgeon's prerequisites, and will be meeting him on Dec 13. That's when I'll also have my psych evaluation. And what I'm hoping for, a surgery date. So I reach out to our wonderful community because I know we have all felt and tried so many things to lose the weight. Have you gone through the same jitters/self-doubt about the weight loss surgery? It is so permanent! I plead for some positive success stories! Thank you!

if you commit to follow the rules, the process of the sleeve will help. I am 3 weeks out, and could not overeat if i wanted to. A few bites of soft foods and I am full. I am no longer "chained" to food, no longer always wanting to stop and grab a diet coke and a snack, or something from a vending machine, or taking a large portion of food. I really love the freedom from food that I feel. Starting at my 1-week-pre-op weight, I am now down 28 lbs (at 3 weeks post op) Was 263, now 235. Good Luck, I hope you are happy and confident as you move forward. Having this place to check in with is great for support and questions.
  23. Sorry, I read it as lbs, not Kgs... No, I agree - diet pills are not the way to go... I'm 3 years out today and have put on 14lbs since my lowest weight - I'm not a happy cookie with this either. Trying to get back onto a good (no bad snacking) plan
  24. Hi everyone I'm new to this forum, I'm 22 and have a beautiful 7 month old.. Not long after getting pregnant and realising my appetite had increased i started putting weight on.. So I started at 165kg, got to 102, got pregnant and I'm 125kg now has anyone had the sleeve redo, OR tried duromine?
  25. I am 2 1/2 years post op and I gained 30 lbs this past year. Due to life circumstances I fell off track. (Mom diagnosed with cancer. She has good days and bad days so I take it one day at a time) I have been trying to get back on track and I have trouble exercising due to low hemoglobin levels I get too tired. I'm thinking about trying Qsymia, a prescription weight loss pill just to help get me jump started. I know people that have lost 20-30 lbs with it and feel great.
