    incisions and stomach hanging

Sandybabe, Shower it will make you feel FANTASTIC just no scrubbing. I was in pain for TWO Weeks I had a pulling like there was no tomorrow. I couldn't drive , I couldn't pick anything up and I couldn't sit at a table with my family to eat. I called the dr. to see if he tied my port to my rib cage:cursing:. He said that he had to sew it to my abdominal muscle so it stays in place and that is the pulling sensation and as my abs get stronger the pain will be less. I had my surgery on 11/18 this is my first week of feelin FANTASTIC. I can tell you I did alot of stretching in a hot shower. It helped relax my muscles and it helped remove some of the gas. I brought a pillow with me everywhere I went. I also had a microwavable heat pad and I kept that on my port side and that helped alot with the pain.:wink2: I still hold my port side when laughing or coughing!!! It gets better I promise ...big hugs:smile2:

    May 27th Banding

I've never seen anyone get a fill after 2 weeks. Your sutures holding the band in place are still healing. After 2 weeks? Depends on your doctors personal protocol. There's no standard as each Dr is different. Most likely just more of the same except they'll let you start adding back in mushies and some semi solids? I wouldn't expect a fill till your 30 day checkup.

    Fast Track Seminar Tomorrow!

How fast is fast track at your center? I was 6 weeks because of a slow shrink and insurance company who didn't clearly articulate policy to doctors office.

  5. I will be 5 weeks post-op tomorrow. I take my Vitamins and I have slowly been increasing my calories and Protein intake. I went from not being able to eat 200 calories a day a week ago to now I can do 600-700 and my protein went up as well...40-60grams. I know this is still not enough but I am working on it. Well I'm pretty sure it's because of my low calorie and protein intake but I just need some reassurance but my energy is soooooooo low. My doctor cleared me to workout and eat whatever I wAnt as long as I can tolerate it. I have been eating healthy healthy healthy. I will never go back to junk food I'm just feeling down because I can't seem to get myself to get up and do stuff! Last week I had to days where I had some energy and I did an hour of dance central on both days! It felt great!!! I want to keep working out but I'm so tired! Please reassure me this too shall pass. It's encouraging to hear your stories and advice. Thanks in advance!
  6. I am 4 months post op does anyone know if it's ok to take the Raspberry Ketone supplement I'm at a stall on my weight loss
  7. I just boxed up my largest pants and shirts one week before surgery. I've lost 26 pounds in the last 3 weeks and they're a little big. I have an abundant set of clothes in the next size smaller and although some are slightly tight, I'm going with them. Hopefully I'm not being overly-optimistic.

    waiting for 2/12

So I've been waiting for a surgery date for what seems like YEARS, and I finally received one a week ago February 12+h. Now, I'm in such anticipation that its all I can think off. My mom had her sleeve done Nov.14th she is down 65 lbs so so PROUD of her. I hope that the 12+h hurries up and arrives!
  9. I was banded on 8/6, so I am 4 weeks out. Ordinarily, I am a rule follower, but since having the surgery, I have been eating with reckless abandon. I followed the liquid diet for the first week or so, but I was hungry all the time. So my nutritionist told me to add in soft foods, like eggs and cheese. I did that, and since then I've steadily gone back to a completely normal (pre-surgery) diet, both food choices and portions. I don't know why I've been so rebellious, but now I'm so afraid that I've done damage and have set myself up for failure. I do not have any pain, but my stomach is uncomfortable most of the time. Please tell me I can wipe the slate clean and how to get back on track to do this right.
  10. Yes, the program I'm in required 4 weekly "healthy lifestyle" classes and 4 "know your bypass" classes. I learned a ton of helpful info, plus made some friends along the way. We did 1 new step for success each week. One week it was simply writing down absolutely everything we ate or drank. Another week we worked on physical activity or meal planning or whatever.
  11. It's probably just swelling. did you also have a hernia repair? I had a hernia repair and everything felt like it got stuck in my chest area for a few seconds for about the first two weeks...........now it all seems back to normal. I can eat all foods now and the only difference is I can only eat tiny amounts..........which is GREAT! it's exactly what I wanted and needed! Good luck to you.

    Breaking All The Rules

I have the same story as you. I discovered that I can eat normally after one week post op. and boy did i eat! I was eating solids when i was supposed to be on mushies I didn't lose a single pound for several weeks. But then by my third fill the magic happened. Suddenly I was able to eat small portions and actually feel satisfied. So don't give up hope! It takes a while to get into the green zone but once you do, it's easy to stay on track. I highly recommend using a calorie counter like my fitness pal and stay at 1200 calories or slightly less. I didn't follow the rules in the beginning but now that I have restriction, I'm losing weight! Best of luck to you! You've got this!!!!!

    So how long.......

I've heard of people that find out in 2 weeks, took me about a month, and some that take 2 or 3 months...everything is different...good luck!

    So how long.......

This all depends on your carrier, doctor's office, company, etc. Usually carriers have to respond to requests for precert within a week or so, but more often than not there's something missing. It's rarely cut and dried. Good luck!

    PB vs Vomit

R- I agree with the explainations above, but I will say that sometimes 'burp' seems kind of a mild discription for what happens. Last week I had some Pasta, which is usually ok, but this didn't have enough sauce on it so it was really dry, and the PB that took place was a bit violent with my tummy trying to get rid of it. No stomach acid, but it was a little painful. Is this what you are talking about? Either way, if it's happening alot, make sure to take to your doc. Too much can cause slippage and/or erosion.
  17. I had my surgery May 14, 2014. Lately I feel as though I am fitting in less food than I was before, and my desire to eat is even less. Two weeks ago I feel as though my desire was greater as well as my intake. Lately I feel like I'm eating less and I'm wanting it even less. I wouldn't be too concerned with it except I feel dizzy from time to time and I'm thinking it could be low blood sugar? Has anyone else had this happen?

    I've Got A Surgery Date!

My recovery was easier than I expected. I was only in pain for 2 days after my surgery. The pain I felt was from the trapped CO2 gas in my shoulder. I also had body aches (kinda like the ones you get when you have the flu). But all of that went away by the 3rd day. It was like I woke up feeling reborn, lol. Another thing that caused discomfort was the fact that I could not empty my bladder completely. I always get like this after surgery. It's a condition known as postoperative urinary retention. I had trouble completely emptying my bladder for about 5-7 days. It was uncomfortable because, for days, I constantly felt the urge to urinate. I was able to urinate a bit here and there, but not as much as I wanted to. The feeling wasn't painful, it was just annoying, lol. My incisions barely hurt at all. They were only slightly tender. My wounds were completely closed in about 4 weeks. The only trouble I had once I got home was getting in all my fluids. It was hard because I was not hungry at all, and I'm a natural gulper; it's impossible to gulp anything because your stomach is swollen from the surgery. I was unable to drink a lot for about 3 weeks. It was hard and a bit frustrating, but definitely worth it. You have to sip everything for several weeks. The reason it was so hard for me is because I get impatient and I sometimes forget to sip because I get easily distracted, lol. Getting in your fluids can be a bit painful if you drink too fast or gulp. It feels like the liquid is hard to get down. It can be uncomfortable, but it's manageable. Just remember to take small, frequent sips. You'll do fine. I don't know if anyone warned you about the CO2 gas pain. Some people experience it, some people don't. As for me, lord have mercy... When I came out of surgery, I felt like I was having a hard time breathing; it felt like something was trapped in my sternum. The nurse reassured me that it was just trapped gas, and within about 2 minutes, I was asleep again. When I woke back up, the pain in my sternum was gone. A few hours later, I started to feel the dreaded gas pain in my left shoulder. The gas pain was the absolute hardest part of this whole thing. It felt as if someone hit my arm with a hammer as hard as they could. The liquid Hydrocodone was not touching the pain, so I requested Dilaudid. The nurse didn't want to give me any, so then my request became a demand. She tried saying that the Dilaudid wouldn't help my pain, but little did she know, I've had 3 kidney stones; if Dilaudid can help that much pain, then I know it can help any pain. She finally gave me the Dilaudid, and sure enough, it took the edge off. It didn't make the pain go away completely, but it helped enough for me to be able to sleep. My nurse kept telling me to walk to get rid of the pain. I had already walked several times that day, and since it was after midnight, I wanted to sleep. Don't get me wrong, walking DOES help the gas pain. You can be in so much pain from the trapped gas, and once you start walking, the pain goes away within seconds. But laying down makes the pain come back full force. Some people can lay at an incline and have no pain. As for me, I couldn't lay flat or lay at an incline. I was only able to sit up at a 90 degree angle. But, the Dilaudid did help, and I eventually fell asleep. The next day in recovery, the gas pain in my shoulder was almost gone. It was only slightly lingering discomfort (not enough to cause a fuss). They took my tube out (it didn't hurt), and I was released from the hospital. When I got home, I laid down to sleep. When I woke up, I had body aches. I felt like I had been beaten up in an alley somewhere. So I drank some Water and broth, took a B12 Vitamin, and went back to sleep. When I woke up the next day, the body aches were completely gone. The aches are known as postoperative muscle pain. They make you feel icky, but they go away after you rest. I know it sounds miserable, but only because I explained in detail. In the long run, all of this was 100% worth it. Just imagine yourself being sick for 1-3 days. Most people don't have much discomfort after a few days. I've had 6 surgeries from age 16 - 25. Having my gallbladder removed and a breast reduction were harder than my WLS. I was surprised by how easy this was, especially since it's a pretty serious procedure.
  19. I waited about a week and was still the same as surgery day. Still full of fluid. I'm about 6 weeks out now and have lost 22 pounds since surgery day. Give yourself some time before jumping on the scale
  20. I started my cycle a week after surgery and I'm one day shy of 4 weeks post and it's still going. Any one else experience anything like this? Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App
  21. Yesterday I finely was able to get a tad bit removed from the band and I do feel soooooooooooooo much better. I was having a problem getting coffee down in the morning and well eating was very hard. The band was just way to tight. So it had been this way for about 3 weeks and now that it is a smidgen loser I seem to be getting a bit of a burning sensation still every now and then. I really hope I did not mess things up. I have had the band in for 2 yrs come July and I have had NO issues what so ever. I also had NEVER been that tight, ever and it hurt. I did not have a lot of throwing up at all but I was very careful too knowing I was so tight. I will give it a couple days to relax and I should be fine..Down under 200 for the 1st time in over 20 years! I am ecstatic!

    Heartburn at 2.5wks post op

Apparently some people get it after the surgery. It usually last a few months. I'm there with you. I never had it before, but I do now. I had it really bad week 2 into three. I started eating slower and it seems to have subsided. I keep xantac around tho. I'm going into week 4.
