Major Milestone! First Mini Goal!

Woo Hoo! What a great nsv!!! Congrats to you!
2. I hope this happens to me!! I have the EXACT same problem, from the scalp, and people look at me like I'm about to have a heart attack and ask me if I'm ok. It's the most embarrassing thing ever and I hate it. Just the thought of this surgery helping the sweating issue gives me such hope! I'll let you know if this NSV shows up in my life! Thanks for sharing!!

My Nsv So Far :)

This is an awesome thread and helps! My NSVs so far: The steering wheel thing. I actually had just reached the point where my belly was touching the wheel pre-surgery. Not anymore. Clothes are already getting baggy My blood pressure has gone down Aches and pains have almost disappeared Can paint my own toenails again I've lost 25 pounds so far. Only 80 or 90 to go!
4. So, I'm going to consider this a major NSV for me. For the past several years, I've suffered from episodes of excessive sweating. Heat, humidity, crowds, anxiety, exercise, exertion, you name it, I could be completely drenched, especially from my scalp. It's been a horrendously embarrassing experience, to the point where I've avoided social events because of my fear of causing a scene. I've barely gone outside during the summer the last couple of years. FYI, the sweats began before I was terribly overweight (my lowest weight was 154, I remember the sweats starting when I was in the 170's). I could be drenched in sweat just from walking around on a cold but damp day. Anyhoo, I'm 4.5 weeks out of surgery, down 35 lbs to 239, and about ten days ago I suddenly realized that . . . . I'm not sweating any more! In the last week I attended an outdoor garden party in terrible humidity, an outdoor fish fry, and schlepping supplies in and out of an un-air conditioned convention space. Not once have I broken a sweat, even running around in layers and high heels. I even climbed several flights of stairs without so much as a flush. Somewhere several months ago I read that that a hormone in the stomach regulated body temp and that VSG could help "cure" excessive sweating beyond just the weight loss aspect alone. Has anyone seen what I remember reading? Anyone else having a similar experience? I did expect to have some of it resolve with weight loss, but not this early or extreme. Anyway, regardless of the reason or the cure, I'm an incredibly happy camper. I would have had VSG just to resolve this issue alone. Sent from my iPad using VST
5. I hear you Girl, I didn't want to put it out there, but me too I was proud!! Keep up the good work, so many more NSV's await us!! Sent from my iPhone using VST
6. I was a little disappointed with the fact that next week I will be 1 month post op and I only lost 12 lbs. Then I refocused, realized I never lost that much that quickly and decided to focus on nsv's. I am down 2 sizes, my feet shrunk, my confidence is up, and lastly I went to the mall today for some shopping and for my daily walk and even got some admirers. Also for the first time in awhile I wasn't ashamed to be seen with my very thin sister!
7. NSV today, someone called me tiny!

8. So tonight I was taking a bath and I realized that I fit in the tub a whole lot better. My hips are not stuck up against the sides as much and the water actually flows behind me. BUT more importantly, when I looked in the mirror afterwards, I could actually see my girl parts for the first time in 3 years. Lolol

NSV shout outs

WTG... I loved your post and I can really relate to it. My latest NSV is the most memorable of my life. For the first time I can ever recall, I am no longer considered "obese." My BMI just went below 30.0 so I am now (temporarily) just "overweight." The Love-Hate Meter on my sleeve just went a couple of notches upward towards the Love side.

126dee...welcome. Wow...I am so far behind on catching up with everyone's posts...so I'll just say "Great job Everyone!" Even if the scale isn't moving,we can still find things to celebrate. For instance, all my rings are spinning around my ring finger. I'm having to wear some on my middle & index fingers. I put on a size 20 skirt this morning...and honestly...I think I could wear an 18 right now! So my point is...whether the "metal monster" is moving or not, look for those NSV's to keep you going....and come back here for honesty and encouragement. We're all in this together!

NSV shout outs

So excited--I have my first NSV!!! Today is 22 days since my sleeve and at my Dr. visit this week he gave me the "OK" to start exercising moderately--he recommend I start with 10-15 minutes of brisk walking 4-5 days a week and gradually build up the duration. Well, today after lunch I decided to take a cruise around my office building and one of my coworkers (I have been very open about my WSL so he was aware) was crossing the hall and backed up and said "Dang! I can definately see some weight loss but I don't ever remember seeing you move so fast! You must really be feeling great, huh????" He then walked with me chatting for a few minutes and dropped off saying, "Sorry, I can't keep up with you at this pace." Woo Hooo!!!!! Goooooo ME!!!!!!!!!!!
12. Decided to try on some smaller clothes today that I thought I will still need a month before I could wear and was surprised that I could fit comfortably. My girlfriend always says my clothes are baggy but that is what I have been comfortable with up to this point. May need to start shopping for clothes again.
13. Last weekend my husband told me he can't wait until my ex-husband sees me after losing all this weight (about 30 pounds), and that my ex-husband will be blown away (although, I don't think he used "blown away" I think it was more obscene). My husband isn't a typical "macho" man, but apparently there's a competitive caveman in every man. I think he's proud!
14. Hello Fellow VSG'rs ok its been a while since I was on here , but I am happy to say I am currently down to 178lbs , thats 75 lbs from where I began this journey !!!!!! As a result of losing what I consider to be a whole child off of my 5'2" frame , I can do so many more activities including running!!! Running has been an activity I absolutely hated unless it was moving me away from immediate and immenant danger, but to do so created an inferno in my chest and made me sweat like a race horse!!!! My new NSV is that I am now running because I actually like it ..... what ????? did I just say that ??? Oh yes I did , it allows me thinking time to myself it kicks up my endorphins and makes me burn way past the run , and I am preparing to run a half marathon in September. Now for me thats major because I used to profess being allergic to running!!!!!! My legs are building all king of muscle tone , although I still have the loose skin and thighs that wont just dissapear already!!!! But all and all I feel fabulous and I wouldnt change a thing about my journey and progress :-) Hope everyone is fairing well!!!!! My enemy sugar just wont give up and go away , I am fighting hard to lose that relationship. OH one more thing, I use the Fitbit to track my activity , I LOVE LOVE LOVE the Fitbit. It motivates me to outdo my own scores daily as well as those of my sister. My mind is set on oh I walked 5.85 miles well I can make that 6, I keep moving and look again and its 6.95 and I'm like well now I have to make it 7 and so on !!!! That little thing has had me pushing myself beyond my limits trying to do better , I LOVE IT !!!!!! Be sucessful!!! Two Fingers , One Love!! CAMMYD*:-)

Do You Need Accountability?

Jean, THIS IS AWESOME! THANK YOU for posting this. There is NO way we can do this alone. At my church (don't be scared) we have accountability partners for our daily lives (we call them "running partners") and we do the same thing. We were not meant to do this journey alone and we need to be encouraging each other and cheering each other on! No one understands us like other people who have been banded. While I love this online forum, I do wish I could meet people face to face. I was banded on 4/23/12 and I'll be attending my first support group my surgeon's office offers next week. I am very excited. I had my first post-op appointment with my doctor yesterday and I swear I talked his ear off trying to get everything out. Poor guy. I had an awesome NSV this morning and no one to tell it to! I was sort of bummed. I have officially grown out of my first piece of clothing! YAY! Thanks again for posting.

Nicole...NSV is Non-Scale victory....things that have nothing to do with what the scale says. Like your buying a new size capris at GW, or getting in a mile and a half on the treadmill when you thought you could only do a mile, etc. BIDIA is But I Did It Anyway. I've been using that one a lot lately! Congratulations on your success! We are very close in where we are. I've got one more pound to 50 but it just doesn't seem to want to go away. LOL. Meredith...I wish I could go for hours at a time without eating. I'm barely making it to the 3-4 like the doc wants. However, he seemed pleased at my last appointment two weeks ago. However, if the scale doesn't start moving again soon, I may have to ask for another fill.

NSV non significant victory. As in not a weight loss victory but say something new like things being to big, being able to do something you couldn't before. Bidi, but I did it anyway. 50 lbs lost here. Started about 355. Almost under 300#'s
19. Today I weighed in at 220.4. So I lost 1.6 lbs this week. My total weight loss is at 25.6 lbs. I'm glad I hit the 25 lb mark and now my goal is to be out of the 220's (FOREVER!). On average (since surgery) I am losing 2.6 lbs a week. I am in a 1x comfortably in tops (I have a NSV - non scale victory - of fitting into several tops that I kept but I could barely get into on the 1x side). My pants are probably an 18 and a half (but since they don't make that size I am wearing 20's and some 18's). I bought a pair of 18W white jean capri yesterday at Kohols that i will have to "strech out" before wearing and I bought the CUTEST linen tops in XL from the women's section and I think I can get away with them if I wear a compression tank underneath (or strech them). If not I'll wear them when I start to go down to the XL size (they were that cute The only planned exersize I got this week was dancing in a Zumba flash mob this past Saturday (fun but boy do I look HUGE on the video). I've collected quite a bit of small containers and make my Bento lunch each day. I like that I can snack all day by just grabbing one (I usually have four containers). The other day I had greek vanilla yogurt in one 4 oz container. Go lean crunch cereal in a 1 oz container to mix into the yogert, a 4 oz container of cottage cheese, a 4 oz container of hamburger with mac and cheese, a 4 oz container of marinated cucumber, onion, green pepper mix. It was an eclectic mix but I ate them so spaced out that it didn't bother me. I am currently contemplating joining the Y for $50 a month to go to the aerobics classes and to use the pool for lap swimming. Part of me wants to start a walking program first at home using my zillion Walk Away the Pounds tapes first and then join the Y when school gets out and I have a more flexible schedule. I still need to work on remembering that I have had the surgery so that I stop grabbing larger portions of food that I can't eat AND remembering to eat on a pretty regular schedule. Yesterday I had breakfast and didn't eat again until 3:00 p.m. I was STARVING (I was shaking and the start of a headache was kicking in) and wolfed down some rolls at a restarant and was so sick until I walked around until I felt better (thank goodness...the person I was with was worried about me.). My lesson learned from that experience was to pack a protein bar when I know I am not going to be eating for awhile and to not start with the bread basket! Attached is a picture of me in my Zumba Flash Mob tshirt. Until next week!

Nicole, glad to hear your feeling better. Good luck getting back to the groove of working out. I took a week off for no apparent reason. Weather was lousy last week & I had no energy. Got back in the gym Saturday & Sunday & working in the yard the past two days which was a work out in itself. I had an NSV this weekend. Since gaining weight the past 5 yrs, I haven't been able to wear knee high boots of any kind as my calves are too large. I bought those high knee rubber boots from Costco a few years ago as they do expand a little. Well, they've been sitting in the garage forever as they only go up to mid calf. Finally, I tried them on the other day to clean the dog poop {now designated for that and only that} and they slid on with no problem! I lost 3 inches in my calves. Can't wait for winter, well, I can, however, can't wait to buy some stylish riding boots that I've been wanting for years' now.

Whats The Adverage Weekly Loss?

I don't think it is a good idea to ask that type of a question. The reason I say that is because everyone's weight loss journey is different. Weight loss depends on SOOOO many different things that it is very hard to predict. My Dr. told me that his goal is 15 pounds a month and that he knows it will come off faster at the first, but to keep that monthly average in mind as an ultimate goal. Start now with measuring yourself and do that on a regular basis. I have only been sleeved two weeks and I can see how important that step is. As we go down this journey, the goal is to increase our lean muscle mass (ultimately) and decrease the percentage of fat in our bodies. Many people report little weight loss but huge NSV (non-scale vistories) with inches lost. And at least for me, that will be enough (I think and hope).

NSV shout outs

When I went in for my last check up with my surgeon he asked me if he could use me on his web site to tell my story. I told him when I lose another 20 pounds since I wasn't done yet. And I've lost 5 more since that appointment. Best NSV for me to date!
