  1. AS LONG AS IT ISN'T SUGARS, FATS OR PROCESSED CARBS. I'm cleared to eat what I want. He said he still cannot believe that at 10 days out I was able to eat 4oz of air fried salmon. He said that beef jerky usually is hard to handle at 2 months. I have been snacking on beef jerky and peanuts since around 15 days out. I was 225 fully dressed with my jacket, knife, smartphone, change, and wallet when I was weighed. The Nurse said; there was no need to remove anything since she couldn't believe the difference since my surgery. My surgeon asked about how I'm doing with my meds, proteins and fluids, I told him all's good. He looked at my incisions and said I'm healing really fast. So he cleared me to eat my way because it's working. I have my next appointment on February 24th.
  2. I think what I was experiencing was my 3 week stall, just really early. I lost all that weight the first 10 days, then only .2 for the next 7. I seem to be losing a little again now.

  5. I’m currently taking phentermine. I haven’t noticed a huge difference-maybe about half the time it lowers my appetite about 10-15%. I’m on a relatively low dose (10 mg) so perhaps that’s why? Interestingly, I haven’t taken it the past few days and my appetite had been off the charts high. I also have encountered several side effects, nothing horrific but things that I’d prefer to avoid. My plan, if my team agrees, is to take it up until the time of surgery in a few weeks and then stop.

    Daily Menus for Maintenance

Yesterday Sunday, Jan 19 Maintenance : 5'2" / 1yr PO Sleeve / 118.2 lbs ---------------------------------------- Ooopsies...je pense que all the calories & carbs & late night eating I've been doing the past week coupled with lack of exericse is catching up to me (I haven't done a stick of exercise - minus the snow shovelling the other day - since Wendesday due to crappy weather, so that is 4 days straight of sedentary behaviour!! Sacrilege!!) While I tell myself that 120 is my upper limit of my happy place, in reality I start to say "Heeeyyyyyyy...." at around 117. Sooo...gonna try to reign it in a little and get down to sub-117. Note however, that I haven't pooped since Wednesday AND I have slept maybe avg 4-5 hours a night for the past week or so, AND I'm just finishing up with my period, so these are all likely additional contributors to the uptick in weight, so I'm not THAT concerned...BUT concerned ENOUGH, I guess, to make an effort to deal with it. On another note, I wonder if the no-exercise/no-poop is coincidence? No exercise == No poop?? ---------------------------------------- 9:30pm - 1 skinny tea latte 12:30pm - salad w/ vinaigrette + green bell peppers + 6 green grapes + 2 shrimps + 1oz cashews + 3 oz pan fried chicken + 2 oz peameal bacon + 1 tsp horseradish mustard 3:00pm - 1 skinny tea latte + 1 oz peameal bacon + 4 seed crackers + 1 After Eight chocolate mint wafer + 2 oz dark chocolate 6:30pm - 4 naked chicken wings w/ 1 tbsp hot sauce + 2 carrot sticks w/ 1 tbsp blue cheese dressing + 4 sweet potato fries w/ 1/2 tbsp chipotle mayo + 1 vodka caesar + 4 ginger molasses cookies 10:00 pm - 8 seed crackers + 1 can smoked oysters + 1 tbsp tangy seafood sauce + 1 tbsp raspberry jam + 1 tbsp nutella + 2oz dark chocolate + 2 skinny tea lattes ---------------------------------------- Totals: 2664 cals - 117g Protein - 270g NET carbs - 115g fat

    Discouraged and need advice

I also lost less than 20lbs my first month, maybe 10-15? 😔 But I'm a firm believer that the longevity of our loss (maintenance ❤) is much more important that the initial pace. Stay focused on your _____ year plans Good Luck 🎉

    Caffeine?

My program advised no caffeine for at least the first 6 months after surgery. But I missed it too much, and drank a cup of coffee about 10 days after my RNY (12/12/19). I suffered no negative effects at all from it. At my 2-week post-surgery appointment, I told the dietician that, and she said, yeah, we recommend no caffeine for 6 months because SOME people can't tolerate it until their system is completely healed and stabilized in their "new normal." But she said some people are OK right off the bat, and if I was one of those, go ahead and have caffeine. So I have been drinking caffeine for about 4 weeks now, no problem -- 1-2 cups of coffee each day, and at least 1 20 oz diet soda a day, too.
  9. I had my surgery November 19, 2018. I have not been constant with my vitamins. My face has suffered. I have dark circles under my eyes and my face looks ashy. I do not eat much, tried drinking milk because I don’t take my vitamins .

  12. whoops - sorry - I was in the middle of something when I saw this come through and intended to respond later, but of course, I just now remembered it! no thigh changes for me.. I actually still swell occasionally - if I eat too much salt or after an intense workout (my procedures were 10 months and 17 months ago) - but mostly the swelling was done after about six months or so, I think. The first 2-3 months are the worst, though. After that it wasn't every day and it wasn't as intense.
  13. Hello! My name is Judi. I had my surgery December 9, 2019. I am five weeks out and have lost 23 pounds since my surgery. I have lost a total of 68 pounds since starting this process around this time last year. Back in 2017, I decided to quit smoking after a 35 year relationship with cigarettes. As a result, I gained 70 pounds and developed additional health problems. I knew I had to do something. So I got serious about wanting the surgery and doing what I had to in order to get healthy. So here I am, 68 pounds lighter and still continuing on my journey to a healthier life.

    Protein Bar?

Oh yea... those are pretty good as well. I think they have a couple different flavors now. I git the little snack-sized ones. I think they were around 100 calories and 10 grams of protein. They have standard-size ones, too
  15. I feel like I’m also a slow loser. I’ve averaged 8-10 pounds a month. Once I started cardio it went up to 12-14 pounds a month. Also try intermittent fasting. If you average 10 pounds a month that’ll be over 100 pounds in a year. Your doing great!! Also the average weight loss is 10-15 pounds a month after the first month.
  16. I’m 4 months out and have averaged about 10 lbs a month. I too was super frustrated, however the scale continues to move. I’m down 50lbs which is the most weight I’ve ever been able to loose ever. I’m currently 189lbs. I’d love to get to 125 but if I get to 150 I’ll be happy. I didn’t get this surgery to become a super model, I did it to get healthy and I’m feeling much better already. It is frustrating thinking everyone’s loosing more than you, faster than you, etc. But believe me, it will come off. Just keep doing what you’re doing. PS I actually feel like I’m loosing more weight after the first few months. It seems like it picked up a bit for me. Maybe the same will happen to you. pps make sure you drink your water and are going to the bathroom. That helps flush the weight out too.

Six months post-op+ : The Sophomores Thread

Sophomores, What do y'all think? https://www.eurekalert.org/pub_releases/2020-01/uoc--amw011620.php
  18. Has anyone gone through a post-21 day leak (that’s what my surgeon calls it). I am her first ever case and it has been a roller coaster. I was sleeved Oct 8, 2019. When I was 7 weeks post-op (November 24) I ended up in the ER for insane chills, vomiting, fever, and pain all over. Long story short I was life flighted to another hospital where I had a three week stay and they repaired the leak. It has been 6 weeks since the surgery and I barely started on liquids two weeks ago. I am getting so frustrated because I feel ready to eat soft/solids but my surgeon keeps putting it off. I am also on TPN, which means I’m stuck to an IV for 16 hours a day. I am just so over it and want to move on, but I worry it’ll never be normal again.

    January 2020 Surgery Date

Well here's my surgery story. My surgery was pushed back from 7:15 to 9:45am on Thursday, so at least I got to sleep later. Spent an hour of pre-OP getting IV, stomach shaved, pre-OP meds. Surgery started at 10 am, they gave versed and the only thing I remember was sliding over to operating table, then it wa lights out. Post-OP had quite a bit of pain, but nurses quickly gave meds to help, dilaudid works great. Had to spend some time in post OP waiting for a room. Once I got to roommgot some more dilaudid. Didn't have much nausea or pain. Got ice chips to suck on at first then switched to water. Has some stomach cramping when I sipped but it's just a small twinge and then it was OK. My biggest complaint is the kept coming every hour and waking me up for vitals, draw blood, get my blood sugar. I couldn't get any rest. Next day was better as I just asked them to try and group things so to give me more time to rest. Switched from IV pain meds to oral, liquid hydrocodone and liquid tylenol. The gave me some issues with nausea. Got about 4 hour sleep on Friday and Saturday morning got discharged. My incisions don't hurt much at all and I am doing good sipping water and protein shake. Takes me about 2 hours to get one shake down. Popsicles go down much easier for me. I got these below an fill the with protein shakes and protein water to make protein sicles https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B01MTZWW22/ref=ppx_yo_dt_b_search_asin_title?ie=UTF8&psc=1
  20. Help me!!!!! Surgery date was 11/25/2019 and obviously I was hurting my first week or so but after that, I felt invincible. I had low sugar yogurt, I was happy, losing weight, eating mashed potato. I even made jokes if I had surgery at all because I was hungry most of the time. I am now almost 2 months out and I am so sensitive to food now, I am guessing it’s because I was safe in a bubble of soft foods and now I’m back to work. I had a piece of chicken with some queso (huge mistake, lots of fat in the queso) I was vomiting for 3 hours small amounts of queso (sorry for the nasty detail) next day I had to go to school and I don’t like eating in the morning but I had early class and we can’t eat during because it’s in a lab and I had small bite of a softer granola, no peanuts nothing and I had to leave class because I was vomiting the morning and that night, I took a Bariatric multivitamin which are swallowable because chews make me feel bad and I hadn’t eaten much because of the morning pain and I woke up throwing up at 4 am. I throw up a lot if something doesn’t feel right even if it’s small where I use to never throw up. I know I’m still finding my way and I tell everyone, no pre op diet will prepare you for this journey. I need help with foods and what I can enjoy because I’m starting to get a bit sad where I was once super motivated. I don’t like to be sick but everything kinda hurts. I had soup with an egg which felt great and protein water for now... Day of surgery: 256 lbs Today: 217 lbs

    We will see

My sleeve was done 8/1/14. I had my hernia and esophagus repaired 12/2019. Bypass was the best option. However, not covered by my insurance. I knew this after months of appeals. Now, my surgeons and other doctors would like me have bypass. However, at this point I am not sure that is my best option. My sleeve is "perfect." I just don't want to have more complications. I just want to get healthier and lose more weight. That is happening because I can again barely eat. So, I am going to wait. Sent from my SAMSUNG-SM-G935A using BariatricPal mobile app
  22. ** Semi-long post Alert ** OK, so I was prescribed a PPI for 6 months and I was happy as a clam. After the 6 months, I stopped cold turkey and had foamies, burning throat, and the occasional spit up at night. I did this for about 3 weeks, and asked my doc to be put back on my PPI, and all was good again. At around the 10 moth post op mark, I did some research and spoke to my doc about weaning off it again. Both my research and my doc said that doing it gradually is key and to not give up and go back to full dosage as I'd have to start all over again. I started with taking my 30mg pill every other day, for about 1 week, and I basically got the symptoms every other day for a month. So I went back to full dosage and tried again. Here is what I did/am doing/will do and so far it has been more bearable and seems to be working... Alternating days of 30mg and 15mg (half dosage) for a month 30mg every other day for a month 15mg every other day for a month << this is where I am at now and and so far so good. Come February, I plan on going to 15mg every 3 days, supplementing with a Zantac of other acid-reducer as needed. After a month of this I'm hoping I will be off the PPI altogether and maintain with Zantac. ...I could probably make this easier on myself if I cut out spicy foods and coffee, but I'm not willing to do that yet. 😡 ** BUT LIKE THE OTHERS HAVE SAID, TALK TO YOUR DOC AND COME UP WITH A PLAN TOGETHER **
  23. Hi! I’m 46, female and 5’ 4”. Like the OP, I also have PCOS.  RNY Bypass Surgery: 4/12/19 Highest weight: 278 Surgery weight: 263 Current weight: 168 Goal weight: 135 but I’d be pretty happy with 145. Best of luck with your surgery. My only regret these days is that I wish that I would have done this sooner!
  24. Hello New to site ... Last band May 2013 SW 255lbs CW 146lbs Mostly maintaining for 3 years, with some +/- 5lbs Since band I’ve had burping all the time. And reflux PBing on and off ... good spells and then bad spells, resulting in two emergency de-fills. Followed by re-fills after a few months. Never been able to eat fruit, some salads, egg white or anything firm or chewy ... now cook veg to soft. No digestive issues pre-band. In Sept 2019, I started struggling with regurgitation, so I started taking Omeprazole, which has helped, but not cured the reflux etc. In the last few weeks, I’ve also started struggling to drink enough water, and some days I’ve gone back to blending my food. We are long term travelling in Europe, so it’s not possible to see my consultant. Plan to take myself to local hospital to see if they can do a barium swallow, to check to see if the band has slipped. BUT, started to think that the band may not be a long term solution .... I’m only 55. Wondering if I should go for a sleeve. Just concerned about reading posts on here, reflux may not be cured by a switch to the sleeve. The bypass worries me as more severe. I will have to pay, so not a decision to be taken lightly .... Would those of you who have gone from band to sleeve describe your changes to reflux, burping and bringing up saliva? This wold be most helpful ... thanks in anticipation. K
  25. Things are going fairly well for the most part. My RNY surgery was on 12/09/19 and I have lost 30 pounds since the surgery. I have lost a total of 115 pounds total since starting this journey to a healthier me on 05/07/19, when I started my six month doctor supervised weight loss for the insurance clearance process. I was on a complete liquid diet for the first 28 days. I am on soft foods now since 01/07/2020 and have been having issues with nausea. I have asked my team about this and they think that it may still be swelling or my body may just take a little longer transitioning to the next stage. Said that if I am still have this issue in 3 weeks that they will perform another endoscopy to check and make sure there isn’t something else causing the issue. I also am having issues with constipation. I’m currently two teaspoons of Benefiber every day and this week I started taking Colace. I have been taking Milk of Magnesia 1 – 2 times a week. I also try to make sure I eat at least one container of yogurt every day. I think that it may be from not getting enough water each day. Most days I usually get around 60 to 70 ounces of fluids but prior to the surgery I was drinking 90 ounces plus a day. I do not regret having the surgery. I feel so much better. My back, knee and ankle pain is almost nonexistent now. I have gone from taking nine medications a day to taking four medications.
