    Pre-Op Blues

BTW a good point my best friend made...maybe I needed this weight gain to realize how much I do need the Lapband...talking about seeing the glass half full.

    Pre-Op Blues

I just found another similar thread. I suppose to be banded 12/19. I guess it because all the diets I failed in the past, I start to second guess myself with the Lapband. Especially after gaining 3 pounds. I know is not alot BUT this is far far the heaviest I have ever been!

    New to Lapband Talk

Congratulations! Your starting weight was very close to mine (252). I lost 10 pounds on the 6 month diet my insurance required, and was put on a liquid pre-op diet that lasted 3 weeks because I caught a cold and my surgery was moved, but only by a week, not enough time to stop and start up again so I stayed on it an extra week. I found I do boring really well (the liquid diet is boring). Lost 25 on that. The rest is post-op. I don't think I ever would have been able to do this on my own. The band helped curtail portion size, and I did the rest. I always knew what to eat; I just ate too much of it (plus the pizza, subs, etc.) Now I eat healthy and the band is there to remind me if I am eating too much. I am really glad I did it. My surgeon is pretty happy with my results too.
  4. I have to do 6 months with the nut. And she has me on 1500 calories and I have lost 14lb already am I still going to be able to have WLS if I keep losing Weight. I went from probable having 3000 or so calories to now 1500
  5. This morning the office was slow so I had time to reflect on all the things I have happening in my life right now. MAN I'm still amazed that I'm going to have this surgery. Well it's not official yet but I am on my way. Yesterday I met with the nutritionist and she gave me some good pointers and I know I will be asking her a lot of questions come post-op. My husband well he's my husband. He's supportive and I know that he just wants to make sure I'm not looking at this with the goal of having a quick fix. I don't want a quick fix I want to work at getting the weight off with just a little extra help. Today I made my appointments for the psych eval. I have to attend one on my own and the second with my hubby. I know this will help him get a better understanding as to why I'm doing this and what to expect as time goes on. Why am I doing this you may ask? Well other than the obvious I'm just tired. Tired of feeling uncomfortable in social situations because I'm the biggest one there. Tired of feeling like everyone is staring at me when I eat in public because since I'm big I've got to stuff my face. Tired of wearing the same clothes over and over again because I can't bring myself to buy new ones because I'm just going to get bigger and won't be able to wear that size again. I've told my hubby this he just gives me hugs and kisses and says it will be alright. He's trying to be understanding but sometimes you know the only people who truly understand are the one's that are going through the same thing. I know I'm probably overly dramatic but this was on my mind today. Will this get better...OF COURSE! It will just take time and a little effort on my part and all those awkward feelings will go away. I can't wait to go into Pac Sun and buy a sundress to wear and not feel like I'm wearing a mumu. Actually that may be a goal for me. When I hit my goal weight/size I'm going to buy a crap load of sundresses and wear them all summer. I'm going to have so many my husband is going to wonder if I have any jeans in my closet.
  6. That you for the post..we are cousins.. Losing my blog virginity

You've eaten a cookie once a week? is that it? gezz I've done worse!! You will come into yourself with the band in time.. I've been preached to by some really interesting folks.. some heavier than I ever thought of being, some thinner that I'll ever want to be... The best part is getting together with yourself and finding just the space you need to be in.. I was banded in January.. I struggle, I want to eat, I want to drink a glass of water, not sip it, I want it all and be a size 8!! but I ain't stupid either.. I can dream, and those dreams are turning into distance clouds.. I've lost 44 pounds (before & after surgery).. I'm stuck I think. I won't have a fill for a couple more weeks. I have an incision sore that needs to heal, so my fill may be later.. I'm using pure will power to keep to my task.. So I've eaten chips, ice cream, some junk food <-- as I would call it.. So don't beat yourself up, you're doing good, you had the surgery, you're starting out.. NO ONE is perfect here, hang in there, find your space to get balanced with what is going on... you've had surgery.. nothing is perfect starting out.. I'm still trying to find that spot in the bed where I can sleep comfy.. and sometimes sitting (riding in a car) is difficult.. I understand that a pound a week is average.. I'm hoping for that. I didn't do that before the surgery.. I could gain a pound in a week, if not more.. I just started exercising, I haven't had the energy. I know it will all come to me, just like it will come to you.. Hang in there.. That sweet spot is coming.. be patience and just start tomorrow again and everyday after if you have to.. You'll get there...
  8. So I've only been weighing myself at the doctor's office with his super cool scale. The last time I was weighed was at my 3 month check up (Oct 13ish). I'm going in today for a counseling session and a fitness session and I'm wondering if I should weigh myself since I'm there. I haven't been weighing myself because I put a ton of emphasis on the numbers on the scale, vs. how I feel/how clothes fit, etc. If I haven't lost weight, I will be pretty upset. I was planning on weighing myself on my 5 month check up in December, but I'm wondering if I should just do it now so I can update MFP and my 4 month post-op photos. What do you guys think?

    How low should you go?

Seeing as you are 5'10" and your bmi is still considered obese, I am curious why you would want to even consider stopping already? If your weight is still melting off, I say go with it until your body is ready to level out more on its own!
  10. I get it. I gave chronic regional.pain syndrome and the nurses at my doctors office forget all the time. I can't put pressure on my left side at all...and exercise that jiggles " the girls" is excruciating yet they have all tried to get me to e a runner. My insurance didn't require me to lose a set amount of weight so I wasnt messed up by this lack of understanding. My pain doctor has told me to swim and walk in order to not exacerbate my pain. In this case I will listen to my pain doc. Its frustrating to not be able to run a 10k. But I may someday.
  11. I have to stay around 600 - 800 calories per day until my 6 month check up. It's not much of a challenge because I'm never hungry. I think the first 6 months is when your best weight loss takes place. You have awhile before you have to really start looking at calories. At least that's what I was told.
  12. I am seven weeks out and I am eating between 1000 and 1200 calories a day. I also still feel hunger, so I do measure out my food and track everything I eat carefully. I don't really focus on the calories, but more on hitting my macros (which for me is very low carb, less than 20net carbs a day). I do exercise a LOT so that may also have something to do with my hunger and caloric intake. The weight is coming off--a little slower now--so, I am not going to overthink it.
  13. Finding Myself

    Considering Vsg

Hello Everyone, ( actually posted this on the wrong thread earlier so reposting it here) I am so glad I found this message board! I have so many questions and it's hard to find one place where you can just have a good conversation! I have a BMI of 35, which puts me below the range for most places in the US. I don't have much in the way of secondary problems - YET. But my cholesterol is creeping up, my knees hurt, etc etc. Problems are just around the corner. I am approx 60-70 lbs overweight (5'2 height). I know this is not quite as much as some people who have gastric surgery, but the reality is that over the last 15 years I have tried several diets that have failed me. Now I am 43 and wondering when I am going to start having problems? So I am considering gastric sleeve surgery. I do not want a lap band at all. I want a tool that will help me with my efforts to maintain a healthy weight. Because I am in a "gray area" with my BMI, I would like to get other's opinions on this. My problem with weight management is portion control. If I eat a healthy portion, I am STARVING still. I am never satisfied. Even when I make good choices, I overeat. This is why I'd like to consider VSG. Can anyone give me some advice and/or their opinion? Thank you.
  14. Hey everyone, I'm new here and I had my gastric sleeve surgery on 4/25/16. I've recently been struggling and I feel like my Dr. at BWH has been absolutely useless. I can't get an appointment and I just really need more support. My diet has been tumbling backwards and I've lost my self control around sugar. My portions are all still extremely small but I eat so many times a day and it's always unhealthy food. I don't even think I'm taking the right vitamins. I've lost a significant amount of weight but I'm afraid I'm going to stretch my sleeve and start to gain weight again. At this point I'm switching doctors and trying to go to an entirely new program. Anyone have any advice or can anyone just talk to me? This surgery has changed my life in so many ways and I wouldn't change having it done but I'm scared I'm going to reverse all my hard work.
  15. Today I just had my 4 month follow-up and asked about macros... basically she told me that at this stage, I don't need to worry about counting calories and carbs and fats. Just protein. She told me to aim high for protein (for me. 100+g) and unless my weight stalls for a month or I gain, we won't worry about that. She DID focus on the volume being no more than 4oz ever. So what fits in a 1/2c serving container. I've been about that, depending on if it's soft foods or something really chewy, etc. So I'm going to straighten up and focus on that. I have been eating about 1000 calories a day, with 50% of my macros as protein, 25% as fat, and 25% as carbs and have been losing about 15-20 pounds a month. So I'll button down and see how it goes. They want me to lose another 45 pounds by May 8. I'm going to work my butt off to hit that goal!

    High Blood Pressure

I was monitored by my physician. Had an elevated bp at a yearly checkup, so she started seeing me every 3 months to take it, and after a while she said she thought it was time I went on a medication. we tried a few different things until we found one that worked. as far as the sleeve, my surgeon said keep taking it and most likely with weight loss I could come off it. I'll go back to monitoring with my fam. doctor every 3 months and let her handle it. Being on BP medicine was one of the biggest reasons I qualified with my insurance company for surgery.
  17. I have logged my food since I started this journey. It works very well for me. Calorie intake is important but just as important is the make up of the calories. How much Protein, Fats and carbohydrates are you taking in. I am 5 months out and have been doing low carb, < 50 per day. In the last few weeks I have upped my carbs to 60-70 per day and it has made a big difference with energy levels. I am still losing weight steadily, but have the energy to exercise and I feel good about it.

    Medical History

wow... that's actually what i am waiting on now.. They told me they were looking for records at least 1 from each year showing what my weight was. now I have the records from 2001,2002,2003,2004,2005,2006 they really dont care what you went in for just to show what your weight was.. Can you think about any where you might have gone that would have charted your weight at all?
  19. It really depends on whether you're losing weight - if you're losing then you're not eating too much, its that simple. Half a cup, a cup, it doesnt matter if you're not eating to bursting point and you're losing weight. When you stop losing then you need to assess honestly why. Is it just too much volume as restriction is no longer adequate? Or is it also due to poor food choices, lack of exercise, etc? Are there things you can improve on?
  20. Since you have lost weight do you feel you look younger or older? Have you noticed more wrinkles appearing on your face? Several people say I have aged since my weight loss surgery. Maybe it is the fullness of our face that makes us look like we have a baby face. I even had a gentleman say my head appeared smaller. Then there is the question how you lost a shoe size or bra size? After 80 pds I still wear the same shoe size and wear the same bra size. These are questions I am pondering and would like your input.
  21. I've been so used to my band that the idea of switching to another type of WLS is rather daunting. I feel if I gain weight with the band, I can just adjust it as I have throughout all these years. You can't adjust the sleeve. Anyone else feel or have felt this way?
  22. I had to lose the wt I gained during the surgery...actually twice. I lost pre op 17 lbs in two week diet, and then gained during the surgery from all the Fluid... at one month I had lost a total of 37 lbs including the 17 during the pre op diet. Every one is different, so don't compare yourself with others. Stay the course, it will happen.
  23. Doctor told me it takes about 2 weeks for the changes to kick in I was disappointed last week after being 9 days out at support group to have only lost 1 lb, doctor and nurse both said this was normal and this surgery is not an over night weight loss treatment. so patients will have to prevail here

    Water line break....

I with the Artic bald that came thru central Ohio, my kids have had 2 snow days this week (after a 16 day winter break!) and I'm going crazy! They're 3, & 5 (girls) in preschool, 6 yr old girl and 10 yr old boy in elementary school, and 16 and 10 yr old hs girls! They're fighting, arguing, and nonstop bickering has been off the hook!! Then just when I think I can't take anymore... I have 1 Water line broken in 3 places! That means the landlord, his helper, and my (eye roll) husband have all been standing in my kitchen tracking muddy snow all thru it! Seriously!?! I am ready for a nervous break down! Oh and did I mention that I am also logging my every meal and trying to lose weight on my own before seeing the surgeon again!? Yeah I'm a tad past cranky!! I can't take much more!!! Ty for allowing me a safe spot to vent without going smack ass goofy on this "fantastic" husband (eye roll again!) of mine! Tho if I had maybe he would go find setting productive to do besides hold the couch down!!! Then again prob not just makin me more annoyed!

I am so sorry to hear this[emoji53] that is very frustrating and imho that is unprofessional practices. You are working hard and you should not have to wait again. I do not understand the jelly/milk diet? Are you in the US? My weight management center does have surgical suites, but my dr does it in the hospital so his patients have the best care afterwards. I did have my egd done in the surgical suites at the weight management center. I understand you frustration with the waiting. I went in November last year for my consultation. They told me that my insurance would require me to lose at least 5 lbs and take 6 nutrition classes with 4 weeks in between each one. I had everything done by late Feb/ early March. They told me I had to bring my cpap with me and I said I havent been using it, because it seemed to strong. They said it was too old and they couldnt download the information from it or change it. So I had to go to neurology, and they ordered a home test. It did not give them results to conclude I no longer had sleep apnea. Then I had to go for a sleep study. 2 month wait for neurology, and a 4 month wait for the sleep study. Thankfully I no longer have it! I am now my 7th day post op. It has been a long, hard and frustrating road for me, so I can not even begin to know how you feel. You are not destined to die of obesity. Keep your head up and keep trudging along! My insurance company required me to lose 5 lb and I lost 25! Strive for better days ahead! Praying for you and hoping things get better. If you have any questions or even just to vent, lmk! I am happy to try to help!
