  1. Hi there, Im having surgery the 22nd as a revision to sleeve. Im excited. How is yours going? Heath
  2. I’m sure u both won’t need it. But good luck. Let us know how u get in. I’m having revision surgery in the new year x
  3. You sound like you are doing great! I will have my revision in 9 days and I hope I come out of it as well as you! Congrats on your success!
  4. Congratulations. So glad to be able to read your post today. I'm 21 days post-revision and so far I'm doing well, losing, and not hungry all the time. Just concerned for long term success. Always glad to read success stories. Great motivation!
  5. for those of you who had the band and then went to the sleeve, did you have any problems with the sleeve? my band is coming out and i'm getting the sleeve procedure done next month. i've seen a few posts where people talk about leaks, and now i'm nervous. i dont really know ALL there is to know about the sleeve yet. i'm still in the pre-op process with my surgeon. are problems a common thing with the sleeve or a low amt like with the band? help ease my mind! i have a 3 year old little boy that needs me to come through this problem free!
  6. thank you for your help. the problem with my band is....well, i'm not really sure what it's called. every time i get a fill, i'm fine for a few weeks, then it's so tight that i cant even get Water down. so then i do a huge unfill to give the swelling time to heal. then we start all over - doing very TINY fills. i've had an upper GI done and my band has NOT slipped. after almost a year of messing with it, he finally decided that it should come out. would you suggest that i get a complete unfill to give my stomach time to relax? my port is still able to be accessed. do you think that if you were able to have your band unfilled you wouldn't have had the problems? i'm just getting a little nervous now. LOL is there anyone else out there who had a band to sleeve surgery and didn't have ANY problems? or are leaks pretty common with band to sleeve revisions?

    Grilling?

It's going to be fun being able to enjoy foods again. The right foods. The right portions. The right times. Going to be very tasty. I'm going to have to revise things for my chicken breasts. The rubs ( I generally use store-bought or mail order rubs for most of my grilling) need to be evaluated for sugar content...... The brine may be tricky as my prior method was simple: Water, salt, sugar and whatever herbs & spices seemed good at the time. Obviously, the sugar is now gone. There may very well be an aftermarket brine that's low carb. Heck....even marinating the boneless breasts in Italian dressing overnight will work great. 165 internal is the key. A fast reading food thermometer is a great aid to grilling. I'm not averse to boneless thighs, either. They take a nice marinade and a quality rub works well on them, too. They may even be a better choice for chicken dips and such. Another thing that is going to be fun is getting busy on some Soups and stews. Low country boils will be great family meals.....I can sidestep the corn and potatoes and enjoy the rest.

Too Much Too Fast? Kinda Freaked out!

I wouldn't worry about it. Sounds like you've been doing well. Agree with what others have said about just focusing on Water and Protein to stay healthy. From a BMI perspective you are still registering in the overweight category, so I doubt you have anything worry about from a health perspective. Obviously I don't know your body type (as in you could be a professional weightlifter for all I know), but assuming you're not, you enter BMI "normal" range at 184 (assuming you're 6' as someone mentioned earlier - I'm on the phone app and can't see that data). You aren't underweight by BMI until you are 136lbs. I'm not saying you should live and die by BMI, just illustrating it to help put your mind at ease. I have the same issue. It's been hard for me to stop losing. I'm way past even my revised goal. I feel like I'm eating all the time, but it's hard to get a lot of calories in on my surgeons plan (which is probably why he doesn't encourage us to count calories). But even at 144 lbs at 5'8", I'm still just kind of in the middle of the normal BMI range, so I'm sure I'm not at any risk. But I would prefer the weight loss to stop. 9. My lap band slipped and life was miserable. Once they took the fluid out, I started to gain weight. I had it removed last June and was told I would gain 50 lbs. My surgeon refused to do the revision for one year. When the band came off I became very down. I cried and cried for fear that I would gain weight. Also I was grieving for the tool that I had, because I thought it was a lifelong choice and tool. Initially, I got down to 134 lbs. I gained to 142 when food was getting stuck all the time and it seemed what I could tolerate was higher in calories. Plus, I wasn't vomiting any longer, so more cals were retained and stored. I spent a few days at the beach and that helped. Then, I became empowered and thought I could follow a 1200 calorie diet and not gain a lot of weight. I tried that very faithfully for four months. I actually thought I could lose some weight but that didn't happen. Then, I guess I said, screw it and ate what I wanted. The portions were still smaller than most peoples. Also, I didn't resume foods I couldn't have with the band like rice, pasta, red meat, etc. At my 6 mo post op I was about 155 lbs. I saw the bariatrician 5 or 6 weeks ago and was asked if I could lose 5-10 lbs before surgery- June 27. I said yes and immediately started a 1200 cal diet. My weight was 173. I followed it faithfully. I wasn't losing. I am only 4ft 10, so my dietician told me to begin a no carb,1000 cal diet. I am shooting for less than 900. I see the surgeon one week from today. I had to buy larger clothes. I hate to shop now. I hate the way I look. I know hate is a strong word, but that is how I feel. I know I can stick with this plan till next Thursday. Thursday night, we are going out for my final meal of choice and a drink. Then, I will do whatever pre op diet he wants until surgery. Sorry to shed a negative light on this journey, but it has been very hard. Feel free to keep in touch with me. My name is Joyce and my e-mail is joy686@aol.com. I wish I had someone to talk to that had been thru what I had. I can say that my surgeon truly had my best interest at heart. He didn't want me to have a revision and be a statistic- not good for him or me. I always said I didn't want to die to be thin. I still have a lot of life to live, but when I was thinner I felt better about life and had a lot more self esteem. I chose to redo the bariatric classes. I felt it could only help. I am so sorry that this happened to you. One girl on obesity help told me right after I had it removed to cry until I couldn't cry any more. I will tell you to do the same. I am so sorry!

    Long term success

I'm 7 years out and have done pretty good with keeping the weight off. I haven't stayed at my lowest but my surgeon said it's totally normal to gain some weight back. I'm going in on Tuesday for a revision to bypass due to severe GERD. I'd love to drop and keep off another 25 pounds. Sent from my Z6201V using BariatricPal mobile app
  11. I haven't had that feeling in a long time and since I got refilled to 8.5cc (in a 10cc band) on Friday after port revision, I'm feeling that too. I feel like if I eat too much, it's blocking up my throat. And two or three bites are enough to get to that point. I remember though that it was similar when I was in my green zone before so I know it's normal. Just forgot what it was like and now having to relearn all over again about the signals that the band gives me: to eat slowly, to chew and to stop before I get that 'full throat' feeling.

    Wondering

I was banded 11/2014. I was 315lbs before pre op diet and am now 237. I don't exercise so this is all my eating changes. I also had a last minute "maybe I should be getting the sleeve" moment and even made an appointment with my surgeon to ask if I should change. Now if you want to get the sleeve you should. I'm not bashing anyone's WLS decision. But if you have done your research and have made an intelligent decision to get the band don't listen to the hype of other people who don't believe in the band anymore or who had to revise. Because there are plenty of people who revise from sleeve to bypass too! I asked my dr what do I need to do to be success with the band. He said it's easy (my doctor has had a band for over 10 years himself so he is in the best position to tell me). 1. You have to eat slow 2. Show up for follow up appointments the first year at least once a month. It put my mind at ease. I could do that! And I have done that and have been successful. I have had no complications. I have learned to slow down and have not had any stuck issues in months. Read as much as you can and go on you tube and read here and then you will see what is right for you and your personality and talk to your doctor about your concerns. Good luck! I was a wreck right before my surgery. That's totally normal.
  13. Can anyone who has had experiance with VSG tell me about how they are doing and if they feel this is the best choice after the band? I am looking into it but I'd really love to hear direct comments from those with experiance.

    Omega loop Bypass

Well the time has come, pre op diet starts tomorrow for 2 weeks, surgery is on 29th May. This is a sleeve revised to Omega loop Bypass (otherwise none as mini gastric bypass). The emotions have kicked in and started to feel very nervous.
  15. I just wondered if anyone has had anything like this happen. I have BCBS NC insurance. I'll give you the Reader's Digest version of my history. Lap Band in 2008. My surgery weight was 258 and I lost down to 227. That's it. I never got any further no matter what I did. I got pregnant, gained weight, and then have failed to lose it. I started eating slider foods and gained a little more weight. Then, the heartburn kicked in. It led me back to my doctor even though I was ashamed of the weight I'd regained. I had an Xray, an EGD, and a barium swallow. My band is in the right place. It hasn't slipped. No H. Pylori. They didn't see any reflux on the barium swallow. I beg to differ since I was hurting pretty badly and having that awful left shoulder pain after the procedure. Anyway, my surgeon has recommended that I get a revision to gastric bypass. Today the insurance company said they wouldn't cover it because it wasn't medically necessary. They also told me to have my surgeon call so they can do a peer review. Any success stories for something like this?
  16. Hello, I had a revision surgery a year ago. The only way I got through the liquid diet was hot beverages. Hot tea and decaf coffee. Sweetened with calorie free sweetener and if I wanted creamer I used fat free half and half with sugar free/calorie free flavored syrups. They curbed my hunger and still do. Same for hot soup and broth. I drank it as hot as I could stand. I tried to also keep myself full off water. The key is to make sure you try to stay ahead of your hunger with the approved options. Try to consume something every 2-3 hours.
  17. I was banded in 2008.... Band removed in 2012.... And sleeved June 1 2015. I am still on liquids but can get water no protein down no problem. From others experiences it seems that they are restricted even in the liquid phase. I have heard that revision patients often do not experience as much restriction..... Anyone experienced this?? Does it change when you get to solids?

VSG to RNY still have GERD

Did you revise to RNY because of the GERD ?

VSG to RNY still have GERD

I would still get the revision because I had erosive esophagitis D. It has gone down to an A, so I shouldnt have to worry about getting cancer. I take 60mg Dexilant everyday plus carafate

    It Finally Happened

Good for you! I had my band revision to RNY on May 13,2014. Had the band since October 2007...bad experience for sure. The bypass is the best decision I have ever made for my health. I am down 85lbs (20 before surgery),not quite 6 months. I had a rough first month after surgery, but at week 5 everything fell into place. I have slowed down on weight loss the past 6 weeks, but it is still coming off about a pound a week. Rest up, do what the doc says and enjoy the journey.

    It Finally Happened

I am so happy for you. I am hoping to have my revision done the first of December. Iam ready to get rid of the lapband also.
  22. HELLO! I do have a band, and the tubing is cracked and broken off. I haven't had restriction in over a year, which has allowed me to gain back about 25 pounds of the 70 I had lost. My doctor could have fixed my band, but he said that it just isn't worth it and wants me to have the sleeve. I will be relieved to not worry about fills anymore. At first, I was pretty scared of having it done, but now I am excited. I just want to do all I can to avoid any complications. I am a little worried of problems since we are at higher risk with a revision. I will go back to my surgeon on Octboer 27 and I will find out my date then. I am having preop testing and meeting with the nutritionist now. Keep us posted on how you are doing and I wish you the best on your surgery date!
  23. Rev Me Up!

Has it been 6 months already?!?

Thanks, everyone for the well-wishes!!! This board kept me afloat for the first 3 months. I remember being on this site for hours a day during the first 2 weeks - holy moly, that was tough!!! This is such a great, positive place and a great source for information. This site is the reason I got the revision, the place where I found my surgeon (shout out to Dr Aceves!!), and where I met some really fantastic people. Wow, I'm getting emotional now :-) Anyway, thanks to everyone for your support!

esophagus dilation and lap band removal HELP!

Glad to hear you are doing well without the band. I tell people I felt like a mere mortal again when I was unfilled..for me it was not just the restriction I missed, but the lack of hunger with the band. It puts us into an abnormal state of starvation mode. Doctors cannot explain it and tend to go by the book on care of the band. The doctor at Kaiser and his dietician just assumed I was out of control eating while unfilled. She just treated me like a newly banded patient with textbook advice on what to eat and how much..etc..I wanted to punch her..really!? I was counting every single calorie and was staying at 800 or less calories..any normal person would have been dropping weight like crazy...me..I was gaining! It all happened pretty fast then stopped. Once I started getting refilled slightly that helped. I am scared my results tomorrow..hoping it is port only issue. I really don't want to lose my band..nor revise to sleeve..uggh..we shall see. Thanks for updating and best of luck with whatever your next move is!
  25. x-ray chic, good luck with your surgery, I believe I am done with any thoughts of revision for myself but everyone has to make up their own mind. As I said so far my daughter has been successful at weight loss due to her RNY but it hasn't been an easy road without potholes. Right now I'm focusing on not dieting and being healthy and we'll see if I can get my band removed sometime in the future. Take care and good luck with your surgery, Nancy (brandyII & Nanook)
