    Post Op depression

Mary, I can so relate to the unpleasantness of business meals. But did you look around and check out what everyone else was eating? So many people these days are doing one food plan or another, I'll bet if you'd checked you'd have seen someone leaving their bread aside and someone else only eating vegetables. I'm sure no one noticed your yogurt/soup lunch, or at least not negatively. At my first business lunch after banding I had half a serving of black bean Soup while everyone else wolfed down deli salads, sandwiches, and chips. No one noticed except me. So how did your appointment go? Great, I hope!! My latest challenge is dealing with someone at work who is scrutinizing me a little too closely. Not my body, but my personality! It seems she used to know someone who lost a large amount of weight, and who became difficult to deal with at the same time. So now she's projecting that the same will happen to me, and is constantly characterizing remarks I make as being snippy or sarcastic. This afternoon I made a crack that we've both used in the past--a not-really-funny industry joke--and she responded by rolling her eyes and saying "You're changing!" I hate this! I feel like I'm constantly on the defensive against making remotely biting remarks. She's continually measuring everything I say, every opinion I hold against some pre-surgical standard she seems to have created for me. I've worked with this woman for two years and in the last year we've become pretty good friends. But suddenly I feel like I'm back at square one with her! I know this is her problem and if it gets much worse I'm going to have to discuss it with her. But in the meantime, I just wanted to vent and oh, you lucky people, you get to read it!

    Post Op depression

I can really relate to so many of the comments already mentioned on this thread. I'm having both good feelings about how things are going, as well as mixed feelings - knowing how much further I have to go. (I know, intellectually, it's only 2 weeks. And I've had an issue with weight for over 40 years. So it's not going to happen overnight. But, I've been so good. And it would be nice to have that magic bullet!) Today is just 2 weeks since surgery. I've been doing really well. I was on one week of Clear Liquids and one week of full liquids. Tomorrow I start mush. Basically, I have been satisfied with the amount I'm eating, though it has been very limited. I have been getting Protein through a clear liquid Protein Drink and some shakes, and have had very little calories. It' s my head that would like to eat more. Today, however, was a real challenge. I had to go to a business luncheon and sat at a table with people I don't know. Since I knew I would still be on liquids, I had already made arrangements that I wouldn't be eating the catered meal. I did bring a protein drink and some yogurt - which I did get the nerve to take out of my briefcase and eat, while everyone else was having a full catered meal. (Oh, the beef filet and mashed potatos looked so delicious!) I did get through the meal and felt good about not going off "program". But my mind really wanted to eat. Plus, I was hungry. So I came home and had some hummus - the 1st time I had something other than liquid. It was delicious. Tomorrow I have another big luncheon - again it's with people I don't know. It's another business function. I did call the caterer to see if I could have some soup. And I'll bring a yogurt just in case. Oh, I can't wait until I'm back on some regular food. These luncheons seem especially difficult because I'm with people I don't know. So, without going into a whole big discussion, I'm sure they're looking at the fat person, who's skipping the meal and eating yogurt, and wondering what's going on. I certainly don't look like someone who only eats yogurt for lunch! Thank goodness, I don't have these types of meetings too often. it just so happends I had 2 this week. I hope that my 2 week doctor's visit tomorrow goes well and that I see some results on the scale. Perhaps then I'll feel better! Thanks for listening.

How Longs Is Your Pre-Op Diet?

Three weeks with the day before surgery being all liquids. I'm in my third week and 18 lbs down so far. My diet does give me 3 oz of protein, 2 cups veggies, a pack of oatmeal, 6oz of yogurt, and a sugar free jello with two shakes. I'm worried about my liver b/c I've eaten more than 3 oz of protein on the weekends (more like 8 or 9). Sat and Sun are HARD

    Pre-op liquid diets?

I lost 10 pounds in 11 days of liquids. I also did the protein shakes like mentioned above and then I did jello, pudding and popcicles for snacks, but I do like greek yogurt now that I am post op, never tried it prior. Oh and I loved sugar free popcicles, especially after surgery when it is difficult to drink and get your liquids in they were wonderful and went down with ease and taste good Good luck on your journey, you will be happy with your decision, I still have some days, but I am so happy I made this decision for myself.

    Hungry

It's best to eat every 2 or 3 hours. I have a Greek Yogurt in between each meal as a snack to fill me up and give me extra protein. The yogurts with my fluids, are keeping me feeling full and getting me through the day. Good luck.

    Protein question

I use chobani yogurt as a snack. Generally if the yogurt is flavored I may add in 1/2 scoop of unflavored protein. Also, really good is plain yogurt with a tbsp of peanut butter for a snack, or PB cookie flavored protein powder.

    My Sleeve journey

What a difference a week makes! I have similar statistics - started pre approval on Halloween at 250 lb. 225 lb at surgery, with 219 this morning. I am on pureed foods - yogurt and custard are great, but I cannot gag down pureed chicken. liquids are OK, and I have started drinking broth for the small amount of Protein they bring (2 gm/cup) Also a nurse - aren't we a stubborn lot!

    Struggling With Weight Gain

I have noticed from others that sometimes after being banded for a while, it is easy to forget or stray from the original guidelines or some banders didn't get adequate information from their centre initially. For starters, I would log what you are eating (ideally through myfitnesspal or something like that that will track calories too). You should not exceed (per my doctor) about 1200 calories per day and should have about 60+ grams of protein. Try not to exceed 1 cup of food per meal and have a planned healthy snack in between meals (piece of fruit) or something. If you are not able to get even yogurt down, perhaps your band is a little too tight which may be causing you to eat some unhealthier items (sliders) that will go down easily and that may be part of the problem. It sounds like you could really benefit from a visit (or 2) with a nutritionist to get back on track. You shouldn't feel so defeated and frustrated with your food choices. I am able to eat most anything as long as I eat slowly and eat small bites. I would urge you to see out one (my bariatric clinic has ones on staff) and they have a lot of great ideas and advice. I truly don't feel deprived and only did when I was too tight and struggled getting solid food down. I also have found healthier ways to still enjoy many foods I loved before but now in a healthier way. There is a website called Emily bites (I believe) and there are many recipes that you make in cupcake pans so they are portioned out into appropriate sized meals. They are healthy versions (ie. lasagna) of everyday foods. I really enjoy them. Good luck to you!

    "Operation Operation"

Update Post-Op Day 11: YES scrambled eggs are the BOMB!!!! Add some FF cheddar cheese on top and POW! I cried yesterday as I ate it. Have to say something about My Fitness Pal (MFP) app. IT IS A MUST FOR ME!!!!!! I can't say enough about how easy it is to use and how it keeps me on track for Water too. I use it every meal and it helps me decide if I need anymore Protein which isn't always easy to track. I also will put in a meal and then save it as one of my meals and then I can easily add all the items at once instead of individually adding each item. Using the UPC scanner to add food is awesome. I just hit the UPC button and let it scan my yogurt and BAM information is added! If you don't use it give it a try and you will be glad.

    Questions for pre surgery

Thanks CatWoman. Gotta say, though i'm Jewish I did not see my Bubby much and so no good ol' fashioned bone broth. Honestly, I have never heard of bone broth. I don't cook with chicken and bones - i'm too damn tired. Yes, I'm one of those quickie people who use can goods and boxes. Too time consuming and messy to take all the meat off the chicken. lol. i know, who is this woman? lol. Especially since my daughter moved out and just me - a lil yogurt with nuts, a healthy blender-made shake, a pizza on occasion - that is dinner. I do make some crock-pot meals on occasion. I'm hoping for better sleep and more energy after surgery and maybe i'll get out more and want to actually cook some 'meals'. ...so you say I can buy 'bone broth' at the store? lol. Yep, here we go with another can or box. lol.

    4 days Post Op

I had my surgery on August 10th and my Doctor and Dietician just this past Wednesday added Greek yogurt and cottage cheese to my shakes and clear fluids. It is getting really hard. I want eggs and mashed potatoes at least.

    Protein question

I get my daily Protein from meats, fish, Greek yogurt, cheese & nuts. I don't drink Protein Shakes unless I am on liquids from a fill. I consume 60 - 70g of protein daily. Glad you like the Peanut Butter yogurt Grammy.

    Waiting

I had my surgery in the pandemic. It should have been a 4 month wait but ended up being 8. It broke me at times but the information I gained while waiting and reading back pages of this forum really set me up for success. I knew exactly what to expect. In the New year the time will fly for you. You will be so busy getting your house ready [ nesting] and then doing your pre-op diet. I made broths for the freezer and bought a mixture of foods for the early days like instant porridge and a variety of protein yogurts etc. Being older and disabled at the time I didnt have much energy while recovering so was really glad of this prep work.

    It's A Beautiful Day!

Tomorrow will be my week bandiversary. Over this past week Ive felt good, Ive felt like crap. Ive cried, Ive laughed (while holding my stomach!) Ive RUN To the bathroom, and Ive come to this site alot. Ive walked to the end of my road and back so much that I think my neighbors think Im stalking them. Several of the recent January Bandsters said "hang in there, come day 6 or 7 you will turn the corner. Boy where they right! I feel amazing today!!!! Still having left sided pain when i breath in too deep but I can live with that. At my 1ST follow up, my scale matched the doctors, so 16lbs down (11 from surgery date). It was nice to review things with the nurse educator after I saw the Dr. I keep reading over my material to make sure im on track. Today I graduated to mushies! And I have to say 1/2 c. Cottage cheese never tasted so good to chew. Im finding creative ways to get my protein in without drinking a protein drink. My yogurt was 8g protein so i added 12g protein powder giving my plain yogurt some flavor all while getting in 20g protein! I think another imperative spirit lifter was seeing my co-workers today. Everyone knows i had surgery so Im not in the "fat closet". It was great having everyone tell me how great i look and how my boobs have shrunk! ( guess that was a compliment?) Lol. Today was a beautiful day! Im looking forward to many many more!

    Eating post op

Mine was April 25 and I've not been hungry. Forcing myself to drink protein shakes and today, I added yogurt. I was told after two weeks, I could introduce soft foods...eggs, tuna, etc.

Howdy! Banded March 2nd. Down 36 pounds since. Got my 3rd fill on Wednesday and am getting stuck on cottage cheese and yogurt. I think I need an unfill on Monday but I should lose a few pounds this weekend. The treadmill isn't all that boring if you play music really loud.
  20. Hello All, Hope all you sickies are better! My son had his surgery on Tuesday morning, had a very rough time of it for a couple of days..............they had to go in to surgery again because he was bleeding so much...........they found that it was because of all the blood thinnners he is on and they gave him some major clotting factors that did the trick..................He's been in a lot of pain the past few days, but that is getting better, they removed all his drains and today he got to leave ICU and go to a intermediary ICU.............thank God, he's on the mend! Nothing in the world like having your child (even at 43) go thru something like this............this is his 2nd time - had a similar surgery 18 years ago.................hopefully he will not have to repeat this again. So, minus a couple of days this month............I'm hoping to get started back to exercise tomorrow morning................have a bunch of grandkids sleeping over tonight (my son's 3 children) that will stay with Poppops while Grammy goes to the gym in the morning! I've been very tight the past few days (wonder why) and have had to only do yogurt and stuff like that...............hopefully all will settle down and I'll get back to NORMAL!
  21. Grilled shrimp, chicken, steak and veggies. I try to stay away from processed foods in general. Greek yogurt, popcorn, and Popsicles for snacks. Occasional brown rice.

    Destined to be fat?

Hi, Thank you so much for replying to my thread. Please don't scream, but I'm not consistently eating low carb/sugar but I'm a heck of a lot better than I was a year ago. Mornings/Breakfast: 1 cup 2% Fairlife milk, with sugar free Nestle Breakfast essentials chocolate powder, 1 cup coffee. This makes my own latte-ish drink. An order of Sous Vide egg bites (egg white and red pepper) from Starbucks (170 cal). Lunch: Frozen entree with at least 15g protein but fewer than 10g of sugar. Snack: greek yogurt with fewer than 10g of sugar or starbucks frappe Dinner: whatever the family eats...last night it was spaghetti. Because of the size of my stomach, I can't eat as much as I used to so I really don't understand why I'm not losing more.
