I had my RNY on December 13, 2016. I have followed every instruction from my dietician and surgeon without any cheating. I have weighed all my food, meeting my Protein goals, meeting my Water goals, and keeping a food diary. My weight has been steadily decreasing about 1 to 2 pounds a day. Today I wake up and weigh myself and there was no change in my weight. I weighed the same as yesterday. I'm ok with that. However later in the morning I weighed again and I had gained 3 pounds! How is it possible to gain 3 pounds in a matter of hours? I understand there may be plateaus, but gaining in a matter of hours is really upsetting. Has anyone else had this experience? 6 Weeks Out and 25 pounds gone. Normal?
tekjr1 posted a topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Had surgery on 4/1 and I am down 25 pounds from day of surgery. About 35 altogether. I exercise 5-6 days per week in the gym usually getting about one hour of cardio. I am taking in about 800-1000 calories per day with about 70 percent coming from Protein. I track everything I eat on My Fitness Pal. I get my full allotment of Water on most days. This weekend I had to travel and when I weighed in at the gym on Monday, I had gained 2 pounds. Not too worried, but after a steady 4.5 pound per week loss I have been scratching my head how I gained. I was disciplined on my eating habits while away. Could it be water retention or exercise related? Thanks, TEK -
Name Change
KelseyBennett_vsg replied to KelseyBennett_vsg's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I called my pcp to get my name changed and be sure the Doc that comes in signed my weight loss study records so I could send off to insurance, turns out their internet was down the only day he came in the past two weeks, so I have to wait 2 more weeks for him to sign anything! I'm starting to get really ancy bc I need to be approved before the end of September, otherwise I'll have to start doing appointments over again. ???????? Working with all of these doctors has been a nightmare. Not to mention my surgeons office didn't answer the phone today, they never answer the damn phone.... I'm starting to get really discouraged.... I've been working for a year to have surgery and it just keeps getting pushed back further and further away. Ready for a chance at really living! ❤️ -
Hi everyone! I've been browsing this site and reading post for several days now and have finally decided to join. I am attending a LAP-BAND® seminar next week and I'm so excited. I have considered LAP-BAND® for a few years now, but I have reach a point (weight) of desperation. I am 26 and I weigh 199 at 5'2. My highest weight was 212, but have recently lost a few pounds over the a 3 month period. This is typical for me, I often fluctuate 20-30 lbs and I'm tired of it. This is a journey that I'm excited and anxious about! It's great to have this site to read other peoples stories....

ReduceReuseRecycle-Me! replied to kariwimms's topic in Tell Your Weight Loss Surgery Story
Kariwimms, how is your intake? Can you still only eat small amounts? That is important; that is the tool part we use to help us lose the weight. Go back to the shakes and low bad carbs. You can lose the rest of the weight. We're all with you on this journey. -
2.5 weeks post op - down 30lbs
ebert replied to Alatini21's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I'm glad to hear that I'm not the only one shedding serious weight at this point. I'm 12 days out and this morning I went to the NUT for a weigh-in and consultation. The weigh-in revealed that I've lost 20 pounds since leaving the hospital, and 28 since the surgery. The NUT was considerably surprised and slightly concerned. He green-lit me for more sugar in the form of 100% fruit juice drinks each day (200 ml). I'm going back next week--if I lose another 20, he'll be officially worried, and me as well. Even though I might be shedding too fast, it's kind of hard not to feel excited. -
Aprillg, your situation sounds very normal to me. Not everyone experiences nausea, vomiting or Bps. It usually takes several fills to hit the sweet spot and lose weight consistently. I am almost 4-months out, have not had heartburn, have never been stuck, have not vomited, and have never had the famous bps. I have not reached my sweet spot, but have experienced enough restriction to lose 40 pounds so far. Give it time, you will get there.

New and Lots of Questions

OMG I remember when I was allowed to eat a scrambled egg and it was THE BEST EGG EVER!! LOL! I was losing weight like crazy at first as well, but thinking I was eating more than I should. I say as long as yer losing weight, WOOHOO! I just had my first fill last weekend (was banded in Oct. 2007) and I don't feel much difference. I get heartburn when I've eaten too much, and it's not fun. I have never puked, though! I've lost a total of 88 lbs, and have about 50 or 60 to go. WE CAN ALL DO IT!! LAPBANDERS UNITE! -

Hey everyone! I'm 21 years old from Canada and I have been looking into having RNY gastric bypass surgery in April and I'm currently going through the social worker and nutritionist. Here in Canada we have to go through a few process before the doctor lets us go through the surgery. I have been thinking about the long the effects this surgery will provide (good and bad) my mother supporters me but my dad doesn't want me to do it. I am currently 260 lbs height of 5'6. Any advice? I also have PCOS which makes it very difficult to loose weight and a long family history of diabetes so I'm afraid. Any one have advice about not all family members agreeing with the surgery? I'm also scared to tell my friends because I don't think they would understand

Hello all, I am new to the site. I have just begun my journey to being banded. The problem i am having is i have to loose 20 lbs before i can even get insurance approval. I know my insurance covers this. I have an apt on June 25th to meet with the dietician again and support group. I was hoping to at least be at the halfway mark. Then July 23 is my psych eval and final appt with my surgeon. If i have not lost the weight i will have to wait until i do to be schedule or even info sent to insurance for apprval. I was given a liver reduction diet. It reminds me alot of the Atkins. But i am not seeing the weight come off. Any suggestions on how i can speed up this process of loosing the 20 lbs? I really want to be able to set a date in July. Thank you for all your suggestions. Traice in Indiana

Sleeve and Umbilical Hernia in Mexico
OasisTerry replied to wendyemitchell's topic in Mexico & Self-Pay Weight Loss Surgery
Hi Wendy, I had my sleeve on May 7, lost almost 60 lbs (yay me!) and have not had my belly button hernia repaired. I have not had any pain, I thought that as I lost the weight, the bulge would become more prominent but I honestly can't see it anymore, I do have a bit of excess skin so that's definitely a factor. I'm scheduled for an ultrasound in a couple of weeks and my PCP thinks it was a good decision from my Mexico doctor not to touch it. I'll have to wait and see. Since every case is unique, I hope you find the doctor, group or facilitator that fits your needs. Seems like most of the folks on this site are very happy with the service and the support. I'm 50+ and was initially traveling to Tijuana alone so I looked for a facilitator that would cater to that. I did not want a mini-vacation or shopping trips, I wanted to focus on my surgery and recovery. In the end my daughter came with me which was great, but my facilitator was golden. Let me know if you have any questions about the process and I'll be happy to share what I know. -
Sleeve and Umbilical Hernia in Mexico

My doctor also recommended that I wait until I had lost weight after my sleeve to have my umbilical hernia repaired. -
I have heard of SixStar, Isopure. I know you can go to any GNC nutritional vitamin/supplement store and the staff can help advise you. I do not know what your preference is, of course, but you can always purchase a high quality protein powder and mix it with lactose free milk or with almond/soy milk. There are also lactaid chewable tablets that help your system process dairy. You just chew one a few minutes before you drink your shake. Hope you find something that works for you so you can continue on your weight loss journey ????

My dr told me before I was even banded not to expect much weight loss in the first 6 mos. Now I know I read on hear people who have lost 50lbs in 2 mos and I so hope that can be me, but I know everyone is different & everyone will lose different. Just keep ur head up try to eat right & maybe increase ur daily workouts to 45 mins. As my family tells me...u have done the hard part (having the surgery) now ever thing else should be a gimme!!!!!

Drinking & Eating & Alcohol
pjd3253 replied to Me1e's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I must be one of the people who just lose weight very slow - you have already lost so much and I had my surgery 6/27 and I honestly don't think I have lost anything - I am not eating much - I think I am doing what I am supposed to - I get ful faster than I used to - I am not eating fattening foods or sweets - wonder why some people lose so fast and others don't - I do not have much restriction at some meals, I do at others which I also don't understand - I tried to eat some fruit while ago for a snack and a piece got stuck so it is weird how sometimes I feel I can eat anything with no restriction plus drink iced tea or water with meals and other times like the snack it got stuck - does anyone understand any of this? Thanks. -
I share in your frustration! I was banded 08/18/08 and I lost 12 pounds on the liquid pre-op diet and 11 pounds the first week after surgery. I have gained a couple of that back. I am also walking 30-45 minutes a day and the scales aren't moving! I have no advice or help to offer but I wanted you to know that you are not in this alone! I'm not giving up! Hang in there!

Anyone go into surgery under 200 lbs?
snowbird replied to Cleo's Mom's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I was 207 at surgery. I've lost about 60 lb in 10 months, and gone from size 20 pants to size 6. Weight loss hasn't been earthshaking, but fairly steady. Exercise is important in continuing the weight loss, but it is easier as you start feeling better about yourself and what you can do. -
Newbie!: Dr Lopez & Osuna or Dr Perez stories?
Sherri297 replied to RellaBelle's topic in Mexico & Self-Pay Weight Loss Surgery
Hi there, Dr. Lopez and his wife Dr. Osuna did my surgery in Tijuana 20 months ago (Oct, 2012). At that time he was booking through "A Lighter Me". I was very happy with my care. The reason that I went with him in particular was that he supposedly specialized in higher BMI and at risk patients. (Previous heart attack/diabetes). However Candy Pants had some great questions on her list that I wish I had asked. "Like how many surgeries per day". At that time Dr. Lopez was traveling to 3 cities a month, and in my opinion A Lighter Me severely overbooked him. I was scheduled to have Surgery on a Monday, he had 5 surgeries that day. The Dr. decides after conferring with patients what order he will do the surgeries in. The first 3 surgeries were long with other procedures added as well. 2 - were bypasses with abdominal hernias, all that being said I finally got into surgery at 2AM on Tuesday. Out of recovery at 5:30AM, then at 8 the nurses were insisting that I get into the shower. My recovery went very well with no complications. I've done well with my weight loss, not where I want to be yet, but I have faith that I will get there. -
My NUT told me that some people (mostly women) lose weight as if they are stepping down stairs (lose and then stay the same for a bit, then lose and then stay the same for a bit). Others lose like walking down a ramp (basically lose the same amount on average every week). For some reason this picture made perfect sense to me and has stuck in my head. I am for sure a stair stepper and it drives me nuts but I keep telling myself that it doesn't matter if you are stepping down stairs or walking down a ramp you'll eventually get to the bottom So it may not be a true stall but maybe just the flat part of the step. Hang in there!!

Also talk to your nut if need be get in your vitamins

Go back to the pre-op diet for a while. Also, increase your exercise. Make sure to cut out the carbs because they will sabotage your weight loss.

Maria, do you have any shake recommendations or ones that I should avoid for sugar/flavor problems? Starting tomorrow (Mon), I am going to do two protein shakes and lean protein and veggies for dinner. Usually I'm a good loser, I just haven't been actively trying to, you know? I should have been keeping my weight in check though. One of the main reasons is that I'm on the edge of not being qualified and I didn't want to drop into unqualified territory. I'll lose the extra pounds. This is motivating. I'm trying not to do food funerals like you said, Marinagirl. The food sizes seem to get me though. I like food. There is so much of it. Grrrrr. I've been doing the split entree thing lately and asking for boxes right away so I can gear up for my future stomach. When we go out now I'm also scoping it the apps/sides/soups at places we usually go. I'm working on my mindful eating. Thank you! Any other to tips and words of encouragement are more than welcome! I'm excited and wish that June 26th would get here soon.
