Banded "veteran" of 2+years
I'llsucceed replied to maygoddess's topic in Tell Your Weight Loss Surgery Story
Its so great to hear from people that have been banded for a few years & that they are so successful at their weight loss! Most importantly that their health is good. way to go I hope you hit your goal of under 200 really soon! -
Best of luck to you! How much weight are you wanting to lose? Have you chosen a band dr. yet? Perhaps if your husband reads some information about the lapband, it will help with his support. You can go to inamed.com and download a copy of the patient's handbook. It really gives a lot of good info. Whatever you do, please be sure that you've researched until you don't think you can learn anything else. There is a lot of info. available here in the archives. By your list of interests, all of those will be so much better and more fun for you and your little guy.

But you do see the difference! You said it yourself "over 20 inches" and ""My 24's and 26's jeans are too big...I'm in a comfortable 22 and a fitted 20". Don't think that your only success is shown in your weigh alone! You wrote about a "non weight triumph". What others do you have? Mine: notched my belt one loop tighter this week, my kids tell me they can put their arms around me now when they give me hugs, I can last a whole hour in my Zumba class w/out having to stop for water or an extra breath... Those count too! I see that you measure, have you been taking pictures too? I use that so I can see the difference. You are doing great--really, keep it up.

The hair loss started around 3.5 - 4 months out for me and it's still happening, though it's getting to be in smaller amounts. I have thin hair and not much of it so it's been a bit of a drag for me and I'll be very happy to see it even out again. I'd NOT trade the hair for the 85lbs I've lost. My surgeon gives a handout that says we should expect to loose hair, nothing will stop it if that's your body's reaction and there's no way to avoid it. I think their hidden message is don't waste money on fancy supplements or hair treatment systems. From what I've read, its a physiological response to drastic calorie reduction and rapid weight loss. The body looks for things to shut down to conserve energy and hair growth is something the body considers non-necessary for sustaining life. As the body adjusts to the weight loss and calorie intake, it will turn hair growth back on. I do see a bit of new short hair but I'll happy to see it thicken up again. Meanwhile, I'm wearing it shorter and layered for a little volume, wearing hats in the sun and keeping a scalp sunscreen applied.

Hiya Chucks, I am new to this e-mail business so bear with me. I had my Lap Band fitted on the 5th Nov 2003, and so far I have lost 10kg, most of that was lost in the first 3 weeks. My doctor here in Australia fills the band to the maximum in surgery, so I have no fills to look forward to, is this usual? My doctor has also said I should lose around 2kg a week! (which I am obviously not) so I am obviously a little bit concerned. Am I doomed to failure again. Also like some of the other people on these sites, I am still hungry (or maybe I think I am), and also some people expect me to not want to eat beacause of the band (perhaps they think I have had some of my brain surgically altered as well - if only) How can I convince myself and the people around me that I am going to lose the weight eventually. Janie 5.11.03 weight 108kg - 01.01.04 97.8kg

Its too bad your Dr's discouraged you to got to Mexico. The band Dr. I met with here in California is the one who reccomended Dr. Ortiz to me. Dr. Ortiz was the Dr. who trained him. More Dr.'s in Mexico have more experince and have placed more bands then most Dr.'s in the US. The hospital I stayed at was very nice and very clean, the hotel I used was a 5 star hotel, and the was no language barrier with the hotel, the hospital staff, Dr. Ortiz or his entire staff. I understand your frustration because my insurance does not cover the band either and even if they did I would of had a hard time getting approval, I was basically a healthy fat person. No co-morbitities whatsoever from my weight. After researching it here in California and seeing how much it would cpst for a self pay here in the states and after Dr. Ortiz coming highly reccomended from a US Dr. ...was sold and went to Mexico and do not regret it for one single second! Today is my 7 motnh anniversary from surgery and I have lost 62lbs as of 11/1.

Well had my physical today and passed. I am healthy just over weight by 75 pounds. I am so nervous, I am having the sleeve and was concerned about going under because my BP runs low 100/46 today, that is a normal for me or it runs 90/42, no dr has said anything about it being low so guess I'm good. My dr wanted me to have the sleeve before I have health issues, I think it's a good idea, I have tried dieting, weight watchers, the military diet and I couldn't get the weight to come off, always so discouraging. Breathes deeply so nervous.

My grade school reunion was fun. I did drink, but I also got a lot of walking in! My best friend noticed I lost weight and said I looked good-but no one else did-WTH? I lost 30 pounds and probably 40 since the last time I saw my cousin and she was there with my neice. I looked at the photos and while I do look better I still don't like how I look in pictures (will that ever change I wonder?). The reunion was down the shore-I had a slice of pizza on the boardwalk-BIG mistake!! I was sick for hours afterwards. I threw up twice on the boardwalk -gross I know! Got back and still felt sick with sliming. I really started to question if I should get the fill on Monday-especially with a cruise this week. Monday I got on the scale and I lost 2 pounds! Awesome!! (I only get weighed once a week). I decided that a .5cc fill would be good for my vacation-but the doc gave me 1cc. Wow! I'll say it again...Wow! For those of you who haven't been filled to the point of Wow, your time will come! I could not eat anything afterwards. I know you aren't suppose to eat after a fill-but with my other fills I was still able to nibble-but not this one! I could barely drink anything. Today I can drink, but I haven't tried food yet. I got on the scale and it's another 2 pounds gone! Wow! This entire process is finally kicking in! When I was at the doctor's office I overheard 2 male patients say that they lost 100 pounds and the other had lost 140 pounds!! Another wow! I am feeling positive and my decision and more determined than ever. I also think going to the gym has had a very positive effect on helping me lose weight. I feel like I am doing something very useful when I work out-something for me-something other than sitting on the couch! I even plan to work out on the cruise ship! So it took 3 months for all the elements to come together-but I do feel a forward motion!! I am glad I didn't wait 6 weeks between fills! As a matter of fact I had 3 fills within 6 weeks! I just don't see the sense in waiting if they weren't doing anything. Also I get free fills for the first 90 days after surgery, now I have a copay of $15 and they book the fills 4 weeks apart instead of 6-interesting.

I always have and always will use Isolate. For me this is because I was extremely lactose intolerant before surgery (and surgery usually makes it worse). Isolate has no lactose, which makes it the best option for me. If you look at weight lifting forums and stuff isolate is generally looked upon as better in quality than other proteins. The biggest reason (in my opinion) not to use Isolate is because it's significantly more expensive than other protein sources, and your options are much more limited (of finding a flavor/texture/drink you like). I think it may be absorbed quicker than other proteins as well but don't quote me on that. The majority of the stuff on my surgeons recommended list contains lactose, and bariatric advantage makes me sick as hell. So whey isolate is the best option for me

Presurgery weight gain
Galaxy Girl replied to Timmy2shirts's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
@@Timmy2shirts, as others have said it depends on your insurance. I did not have specified weight to lose. I lost about 10lbs from my 1st weigh in and the insurance approved. Good luck! -
Hi! I had my lap-band revision to sleeve exactly 1 month ago. I'm super happy and I feel more active than ever! I'm trying to get as much Protein that I can but I'm still find it difficult to eat much. My starting weigh was 175 and I'm at 158 right now. I haven't lost any weight in more than a week now so I hope I can break this stall... Overall great experience and my incisions are beautifully healed. Tessy74 replied to Tessy74's topic in Tell Your Weight Loss Surgery Story
Im sorry but i was excited to renew my commitment and i was looking for encouragemen and others doing the same thing. Lets put this into perspective for you. I had gastric by pass 6 years ago and last year was rewarded for keeping All of the weight off with a free panectomey. I have gained back 40 pounds. I know what im doing and how to do it and you dont know what i am referring to as a "pouch reset", just as i dont know what you have for a definition for those two words. Therefore, um flad it worked for you but to each their own journey. And my response was to the other woman but i just joined this thing. Anyone else banded on or around 7/29/08?
froggie456834 replied to nikole76537's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I was also banded on that day and just started mushies. Now that I know I don't have to limit myself to 1/4 cup of mushies, I'm just fine. I eat pretty small portions but have stopped losing weight like I was when I was on liquids. I'm just wanting my first fill, which won't be until Sept. 23! (I have a busy doc!) -
Well, I had my surgery in April, and I've just been losing slowly. I'm losing, but I'm definitely not one of these folks that it's falling from. I've made myself almost ill with the idea of the plane. I've actually been on a plane when I was bigger, but even at the size and weight I am now. I know I'm pushing limits. I think I've spent over $200 bucks in "shapers" seeing if I can pull myself in an inch or two. I have my own extender........but this is for work so I will be mortified and looked down upon if for some reason they don't let me fly and I miss this meeting Monday morning. I was even willing to purchase a second seat on my own dime, but they were sold out! First class would be 3k to upgrade. I am looking forward to the day, though the way I have been feeling, not sure that day will EVER come. That I won't worry anymore. I just wish it would have been going faster, but apparently my body is going to do what it wants to do. It's funny how so many things really mentally mess with you. "Will this chair hold me?", "Will I fit into a booth?"...........

You should be down 50-60 pounds in 2months after surgery. Please remember you have to et protein in for the weight loss to work. If you don't get the protein in the weight loss will stall and start to lose hair.drink protein shakes chicken fish what ever protein you can to maximize the weight loss
-
Thanks so much every body! I am drinking a Protein shake as I type! It's tough but I really have to get it in me sometime today! I agree I don't think ill be losing as quickly as most people do because of my BMI. I hope losing weight helps my BP! Has anyone else found wls helped their hypertension? When I was 22 and 160-ish I was 155/125 and rejected for life insurance! But whenever I went to my doc it was much lower 130/90, so she told me to lose weight before I start treatment. I wonder if getting down to 125 or 130 will help... My mom and my grandmother both have hypertension along with all my aunts on my moms side :S I feel like it's more of a genetics and salt thing?

Gain 5lb in a day???? Is that normal
blizair09 replied to Sandranikaurys's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
You did not gain 5 pounds of fat in a day. It's likely water weight. There are going to be ebbs and flows (and stalls, stalls, stalls) throughout the journey. If that's going to frustrate you, try to stay off of the scale. (For instance, maybe only weigh once per week.) Hang in there! -
Sorry guys this is a ? for the girls...
tmbowe replied to Annie71's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I had the same problem I was always regular with my periods then after I had the surgery and started to lose weight they became irregualer. I talked to my Dr about it and he told me it was normal. That it had to do with your hormones and the weight loss and not to worry about it. -
Well i was banded June 2008! and have only lost 54 pounds i weigh 189 right now far from skinny, and guess what?! i have only 5.3 cc in my 10 cc band and they cant put anymore in because whenever they try to even put .2 i get stuck and cant even drink water! so my surgeon told me it will be up to me to eat only a cup of food, also i was eating 1200 calories a day and exercising every other day, well the dietician told me i should go down to 1000 calories a day,not easy to do when u dont have alot of restriction, one last thing my surgeon said i might not lose any more weight and no one will tell me why they think this, i havent lost any weight in 5 months!!!!!!!!!!!!!! now thats what i call real frustration!!!!!!!! you guys are just starting out be easy with yourselves you will make it!

No Weight Loss And Feeling Discouraged :(
2muchfun replied to Linze's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
You need to go back to your doctor and find out why? If you are eating around 1000-1200 calories a day and exercising you should be losing weight? Sit down with your dietician and find out why it's not working. I did with mine and it made all the diffrence in my weight loss. tmf -
I just realized I'm half way to my goal. I want to lose a total of 90lbs and I've lost 45! Whoohoo! This is awesome! I'm 2.5 months post op. I know the weight loss will slow down but I'm on Target. I was hoping to be wearing cute sun dresses this summer and I think I will get to!! I love my Almanzo! Just like Laura Ingles! That's what I call my sleeve...Almanzo. lol, I'm a dork.

Wow I can't believe that 2yrs ago today I was preparing myself to be banded on January 11, 2007. Sooooo much has changed since then and I do mean SOOO much. But I thank God that most of the changes has been good changes. However there were others that were bad and scary. Just to elaborate a little my job was relocated and I had to find another, but thankfully I found one a week later. On a more personal note I have maintained my weight and exercise for almost two years. Although I am not at my goal of 170 I am working really hard on accomplishing that goal by January 11th 2009. In a few hours I will begin a new chapter in my life and I must admit that I am looking for to leaving a lot of people in 2008. I am looking forward to not being too nice, don't get me wrong, but when I say that I look forward to not being too nice, I mean to people that do NOT deserve me or my kindness....can you believe a very special person that I hold close to my heart said that me being too nice was "wierd" I was atonished! I'm like damn shivery is dead indeed! But that person is one of the ones that I plan on leaving in 2008(but I will need strength). Anyway I am getting to windy here so I wish everyone a Happy and FULL New Year(the #9 means fullness and FAT in the Hebrew language(I hope I got that right)) meaning that one will be full of blessings and it also means re-establishment and return. I expect God to re-establish me in 2009 and give me a return on everything that I have lost in the past years!!So Happy New Year and great blessings!!! Be blessed!

Nsv - I Got A Job! Multiple Offers!
SKCUNNINGHAM posted a topic in Weight Loss Surgery Success Stories
Here's the background data. I took an early retirement package from my employer at the end of December of 2011. They were having some tough times financially and wanted to reduce costs - so when they offered the package, I accepted it. I took a gamble on myself and my skills being marketable in the bad economy. Not a fun time to be in the job market. For those of you who haven't looked for a job recently - it is completely different than it was even two years ago. If you don't know how to use social media, have a great "content-rich" resume, and are willing to network almost continuously, you are going to have a difficult finding a new job. I am 55 years old, and am competing with "kids" half my age and willing to take less money than me for the very same job. Here's the NSV - I received four job offers! The first was about 3 weeks ago, for a contract position - which I accepted. That seemed to bring all sorts of other good things my way. I received three additional job offers in the last ten days. All three of them were good offers for permanent positions (if any jobs these days are really "permanent"). I had the amazing task of deciding which one was the one I wanted - because I would have accepted any one of the three. I did a little negotiating with the companies - to maximize the offers - and picked the winner. I resigned from my contract job, accepted the job I decided on, and told the other two companies, "no thanks". I think the fact that I had successfully lost 100+ pounds and am a "normal" weight both really helped me have a successfull job search. I believe the confidence boost I got from having beat my personal demon carried over into my interviews. I know people looked at me differently during the interview process at a size 12 petite than they would have at a size 26W. I didn't have to worry about hiring managers or human resource people worrying about the costs of insuring an obese person. I think I look younger than I did 100+ pounds ago - and younger is definately better in today's job market. It is going to be nice at the new company to just be known as "Sharon - the new woman" rather than "Sharon - the fat woman who is new". I look forward to planning what I will be wearing the first week of work! Sharon -
Ok! So I have been struggling for about a month with my weight, steady at 202/200. Well, I stayed off the scale for about 2 weeks, did my routine, and had great support from family, friends and this site. Is the suspense killing you? I dropped to 194. I AM IN THE ONES NOW!!!! Thank you everyone! I appreciate you all.
