  1. Lizzee038 I just saw you live in the Hughesville area. I live in La Plata. I'm going through Bluepoint Surgical Group with Dr moazzez. I saw you were looking for a mentor. Well since you already had surgery I can't be your mentor but I just thought I'd say hi since you live nearby. Do you go to the support group at st Mary's Hospital ? It meets the second saturday of the month at 10 am I'm pretty sure. I haven't been to it yet but I'm going to go in September. I'm looking for a mid September approval and a end of October surgery. Get back in touch if you want to. Hope everything's going well for you as you continue to recover .... Jenn

    Two weeks out and starving

Jenni, I am going through the same exact thing! I was oddly happy to log on and see your post. Not because I am happy that you are hungry, but happy that I am not alone! I was banded on 3/10. As of 3/25 I had lost 9lbs. Of course I had been on a liquid diet for 3 weeks. My doctor started me on normal foods as of the 27th, but told me to start with softer foods first to make sure I had no problems. I returned back to work on the 28th and have gained back 4 pounds. I am freaking!! I have not had any fills yet. I am starving all of the time, but trying to really watch what I eat and not eat to much. I don't feel like i can get full. Please, someone tell me this will change and I will be successful! I hope someone can give us some advice and encouragement.

    Not losing weight

It could be worse. I'm 2 months out and I only lost 7 lbs last month. And that is with tracking, counting, measuring, and exercising faithfully. Sent from my Nexus 10 using the BariatricPal App

    self hate

7/28/09 I must hate myself. Right? why else would I do this to myself. I’m like a fast food junkie. This must be what it feels like to be hooked on crack. Always thinking about your next hit and where it’s going to come from. The moment I feel a twinge of lunch-time hunger I’m all about where I’m going to snag my next “hit”. Then I eat and for about 30 seconds I enjoy it right before the guilt sets in. Then about 10 minutes later I feel terrible. Bloated and full and yucky, which just accentuates the guilt. And the cycle continues…I must hate myself. right? or I wouldn’t eat like I do. I’m actually to a point where I’m going to have a doctor surgically restrict my stomach capacity. Oh God please don’t let me fail. This is like my only chance. All I have to do is follow the rules. I try so hard to be optimistic and not think about the possibility of failure but it’s there. In my head, it’s there. That voice, that sounds oddly like my mothers, saying “why bother, you’re not going to be able to follow the rules.” Am I in denial because I’m not allowing myself to really even think about the possibility of failure or is that what I’m supposed to do? If the root cause is self hate then really will the surgery even work? Have I been fooling myself all these years into thinking I liked myself? I’m mean really I must hate myself. right? or I wouldn’t eat like I do….

    Confused...Excited...Lost.......

Trish, I know! I have been doing the pre op diet my doc ordered for me and I have actually gotten used to eating on the atkins induction. LOL everytime I feel like complaining I remember that in 10 days I will be on liquids. I am trying to make all of the nessecary preparations and think ahead to somethings I need to get out of the way that I wont be able to do for 4-6 weeks. Like stretching my canvases. Keep me updated on a specific date and I will write it on my calendar.
  7. Alrighty, about 5 days ago I started burning in the throat/esophagus. When I tried to describe it to my doc today, I said throat and he said that has nothing to do with the band, and then I tried to tell him it did, it is hard to pinpoint where these things hurt. He basically argues with me about anything I say to him! It has something to do with this band, I can tell. I've never had this - except once. For 9 months they thought it was gerd and tried all that. Then a homeopath figured out that I had a yeast infection that settled in my throat! of all places. 2 weeks of nystatin and I was fine. After all the meds and the endoscopy! So. For 5 days I've had this burn, and now I'll go see my g.p. (surgeon is 8 hours away) I made an appt with the surgeon for 10 days from now. Anyone else experienced this just as a minor problem? I read the major ones and I don't want to go there!!!! aggravated. and burning.
  8. Why do people make this out to be more difficult than it actually is???? My Dr. had a 10 week course (actually a little longer).....starting from the day of surgery....it was regular office visits 4 weeks apart for weigh ins, some Q&A, perhaps a fill..... He made it perfectly clear, having that Yellow-Green-Red Chart on the wall, that that was exactly where he wanted me to be....through a series of visits and fills...... First phase - pre surgery, then then actual day of surgery 2nd Phase....series of office visits and adjustments to get the band properly working as it is designed to do.... 3rd Phase.....go live your new life to it's fullest...
  9. Hi, I'm day 10 post lap band surgery. I was told to take off my dressings today which I have done. However, I have steri-strips over each of the wounds. I'm sure I remember in my post anaesthetic state the surgeon saying he used dissolvable sutures! Do you think I should try taking the steri-strips off as well or leave them on until they fall off?

    Newbie!

Hello Forum! I'm so glad I've found this site. We have a support group here, but they meet once a month. I was recently banded on 9/19...so I'm through my first week and starting the second. I had no complications and was back to work on Monday. Since I started the process with a liquid diet 2 weeks before, I've lost 21lbs...only 4 last week, but I'm hoping to get a fill on Thursday for more weight loss. I slowly started adding soft foods this week...an egg, thin slices of ham, and tuna. Lots of soups mixed in along the way. Since I've started soft foods, I feel like I'm still eating too much even though it's literally just ounces that I'm having. We'll see what my Dr suggests at my visit. I look forward to chatting with everyone and reading about your weight loss journey. Tammy
  12. Why does your fill Dr consider your surgery a failure at only 5.5ccs? I am currently at appr. 6.5ccs in a 10cc band. I started feeling restriction somewhere between 5.5 and 6ccs. I have had several fills since usually around .25 or .50 ccs at a time. Usually after losing around 10 lbs which causes my band to loosen up slightly, and I won't hesitate to get another one when I need it. Sometimes only a tiny fill can mean the difference between no restriction and good restriction. You shouldn't be giving up. Get another fill and another one after that if it doesn't work. This band is intended to work with adequate restriction. Without it it is just a piece of plastic.
  13. December 28 was my sleeve surgery date. Had to be at the hospital at 7:00 am, for pre-op. I was in a private room after surgery, by about noon, my wife tells me.I woke up to the worst pain I have ever been in, but it honestly did not last too long. The nursing staff had me up and walking a few hours later. I did a lot of walking on my own, after that. I used the morphine pump pretty sparingly on the first day. The fist night in the hospital was terrible. I was exhausted from not getting any real meaningful sleep in the days prior to surgery. Well, the nursing staff woke me every hour and a half or so, for meds and vitals. Day 2, Very little pain, most of which was gas pain. They took my morphine pump because I had not used it since the prior evening. I walked several times during the day, and I began to have serious shin and calf pain in both legs. I hadn't thought about it, but I was walking sock footed, instead of putting on shoes, which was hell on my legs. I got a little bit of sleep last night, more than the night before. Day 3, My surgeon came in early this morning, and said that he ordered an ultrasound of my legs, to be sure I did not have clotting. He said if I ate my liquids Breakfast, and kept it down, and my legs were free of clots, that I would be going home by lunch today. I was discharged around 11 am today.I can honestly say that the pain overall, was manageable, and on a scale of 1-10, probably a 2. Since I have been home, I have drank most of a Protein shake, and some Water. This gas pain is unreal at times, coming in waves. The pain lasts no more than 10 or 15 seconds, then goes away. Again, manageable pain. I got on my home scale (it is a very accurate, old style doctors office scale, with the slide weights), before leaving home Monday morning, and my weight was 329. When I got home today, I was at 319. When I started this process, my weight was 349. I lost 20 pounds during the pre-surgery diet (I was on it for 3 weeks instead of 2). Anyone wanting to know more about my surgery, who has surgery coming up, I'd be glad to tell you my experience.
  14. It has been a marathon of activity since surgery. The journey started 8/3/16. Home 8/4 - could've stayed another night but couldn't do it. The idea of laying around the hospital when that could be done at home sold me on leaving. Only had anti-inflammatories at home and was back to work on 8/8/16. They were half days and I had some support through Wednesday, 8/10. Since then it has gotten busier & busier. Switched to baby food/purées. Transitioning to fork smashed this week. Today was the first day of school. I still have not vomited but have experienced all steps leading up to dumping last night. Sleepiness. Dizziness. shakes. Chills. Slept 10+ hours and had a tough morning. Trying to get in 40-60 oz H20 and eating baby food since it is convenient and variety is easy to manage. HW: 355 Lost about 30 since surgery (in just under 3 weeks) CW: 301 It is time for advice. I have to go to the university tomorrow night and Thursday for the next 4 months. I leave for my day to start at 6:20 AM and will get home around 9:30 PM. Exhaustion has been setting in around 8:00 PM. I was thinking of packing variety for tomorrow's long day with supplies for shakes as needed... up to 4. I don't want to risk sleepiness driving home but want to continue progress so I'll pack Oikos as well as Water and Vitamin water + all the pills and meds. I need survival ideas. Progress has been good & I want it to continue. Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App
  15. Ugh...I did this tonight. My best friend took me to dinner at Red Lobster & I ordered 8 garlic shrimp, had one of his crab legs & about an ounce of lobster. After watching them eat those yummy bisquits I was ready to eat. I only ate a couple of my shrimp & the other stuff & I felt the worst I've ever felt. Literally thought it was coming up at the table & it hurt, but only for about 10 minutes. After that I was fine. I am however having the hardest time getting enough water each day. Anyway, I feel your pain.
  16. I am 10 days post-op. I had some issues with my largest incision. I thought it might be infected. I went to the doctor right away, luckily it was not infected. The stitches fell off or popped off and my large incision is healing open. It looks disgusting. The dr is not too concerned with this. They just told me to keep it clean and covered. Did anyone else have to heal with an open incision?
  17. My employer also put in a 6 month, supervised diet qualification that I had to meet, but after I met that, I was submitted on a Wednesday and approved the following Monday. Surgery was scheduled for 10 days later. I was surprised at how quick it was.
  18. I had to go through a full year of requirements (10% weight loss, weight management class, psychological counseling) but once I had all of the requirements that my insurance company had, my doctor submitted the paperwork. There was requirement by the surgeon that I go to a three hour class on what to expect at the hospital before and after surgery and my diet post-op. However, since this was a requirement of the surgeon and not my insurance company she went ahead and submitted my paperwork. The surgeon's office said it might take 12 - 16 weeks to get approval but I was approved in a week and a half. I think it depends on your insurance and your doctor for when things are submitted for approval. Good luck to you! Debora

    1st Fill!!

Good morning First fillers. Always remember that after a fill to do your liquids and soft foods for a couple of days. For some reason the band takes time to adjust. I have had 6 fills, different amounts 1.5,1.0, &.5. total of 6.5 cc in a 10 cc. Every thing goes down fine wth the liquids. For me the change always comes on day 6,7, or 8. The restriction is there, it could be from jsut getting back to regular foods that after the liquids yu have atendency to forget how to eat and chew after only a 4 day hiatus. I have sen somepeople that it took two weeks for the restriction to set in. Everyone is different. Main thing give it time, dont push those tough foods, Restriction is good, I lose my most lbs in the two weeks right after a new fill. As long as I and my tummy is losing fat the inside silicone band will loosen each time. So relax and follow the rules. This is journey learn the right way. They may do the barium and the FLouro scope on your first fill to make sure the restriction is there and to hit the port on the first stick. Sorta neat to watch. Good luck remember to take notes in your journal or food log on how things went and how you feel.

How do you do the reset? I'm trying a 10 day smoothies cleanse and I am starving. I I'm eating way more calories on this cleanse!. March will be my 1 yr post op. I have 15 lbs to go, but I can eat as much as before and I'm always hungry. I need to try a reset!
  21. I'd call your doctor tomorrow. I'm surprised you weren't given pain meds, and Aleve is an NSAID which I hear is a no no. Every dr is different, so I don't want to be too harsh with my judgement. I was taking my liquid Lortab three times a day for the first 5 days. Maybe I'm a wus With no spirometer, practice taking a deep breath for like 10 sections to slowly open up your lungs.
  22. I was banded 3/19, and my port is to the left of my belly button also. I had pains from the gas they inflate you with during surgery - it lasted about 4 days post-op. I waited 3 years to get banded - and I am stoked at my weight loss - 30 lbs since I went on the pre-op diet of 1200 calories a day. I am finding that this site is great for support. All the best to you on your new journey. Jim

    Struggling

I struggle also sine aug 20 thought it was me failing again. But I got my 3rd fill last week and it is so different (10 cc band cc with 6.5 in) I hope this last a long while. doctor said I could have another 1.2 cc in 14 days if needed so keep that in mind and if you still feel hungry all the time get a fill don't wait a month like I did. Track every bit and drink it really helps to do that.....it gets easier when you get to the green zone I am almost afraid to count that I am there it feels just right and every time I think ive got it..I don't....good luck and hang in there................line dancer
  24. Hi all. I have not been on here for some months. Personal issues that I will not go into here, but I had my sleeve on 11/29/10. So far I am very happy with the way I feel. I was taking Lasix to get rid of excess fluid pre-surgery, but my dr. did not want me to continue it post surgery. I was alarmed at first, because, of course I started retaining fluid and actually put on 5 lbs, from surgery day through 5 days post op. He was right in his decision, because I would have been dehydrated had I taken it. With that said, after I lost that 5 lbs of fluid plus an additonal 10 lbs during week 2, there has been no further change in weight. On monday I will be 3 weeks post op. I have been getting in 64+ ounces of fluids, getting in all my required 60 grams of protein, walking 1+mile on the treadmill for a week now with no further change. Am I doing something wrong, or is this normal?

This is gonna take a while, eh?

I started by going to my reg md on August 1'st to discuss lap band. He wrote a letter to my insurance company stating that he feels I need to have this done and why. He also included in the letter the numerous and failed ways I've attempted to loose weight over the last 10 years...which included diet group meetings, therapy sessions, exercise programs, exercise equipment, and many many fad diet pills and diaretics over the years. The insurance company got my letter and is "reviewing" my request. I met with the surgeon on Sept 15'th. He gave me a list of requirements. So far I have.....went for a full set of blood work, had the psych eval, and had the upper GI done. I have appts on Oct 5'th with the pulmonologist and the nutritionist. I then have an appt on Nove 3'rd with the endocronologist. After all those evals are completed.....my insurance company will again review all my information and decide whether to approve or deny me. I am 34yrs old 5'10 tall 287 lbs 46ddd size 26/28-30/32 I'm glad I found this site and I relaly enjoy reading your updates. Good luck.....congrats....and take care everyone!
