1. I am 10 days post op and I don't feel well at all. I had the surgery last Thursday came home Friday and was admitted again on Saturday for dehydration and gastritis.... I'm on all types of meds for my stomach including a cocktail of mylanta and some other stomach medicines. Every time I swallow anything to drink I get a horrible pain in my belly. I get a weird feeling in my throat that starts to bubble then I burp but it feels like I wanna vomit. I contracted shingles while being admitted so I'm on antibiotics for that now also. I'm borderline depressed and questioning why did I do this to myself. Hoping and praying things get better but woke up today feeling like I have a chest cold. I don't think I'm taking in E ought fluids because like I said it hurts going down. I have a appt tomorrow with my Dr hopefully he can give me so positive info and say this to shall pass. Anyone else go thru anything similar. Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App
2. So I get sleeved on 10/22, but here's the thing. I don't respond well to ketosis. It makes me angry, anxious, and generally makes me feel like I'm losing my mind. Now, the doc/nutritionist and I have already worked out what's going to happen pre-surgery (low carb, but not zero-carb diet) but I'm wondering if this happens often post-op?

Cheated On Pre-Op Diet

i was good 90% of the time and not so good the other 10%. i still lost 6 lbs and my few small cheats had no effect on my surgery. i wouldnt worry about it, i think the dr just wants you to lose weight to help your liver be smaller before surgery. call your drs office if you need to, im sure youre not the 1st person who cheated. good luck !!

Pre-op weight loss?

My program wanted me to try to lose 10%, but a minimum of 5%.
7. I'm still on mushy food and I ate roasted garlic with my mashed potatoes tonight. I now have such indigestion that I think I'm having a heart attack. I've walked the house since 10:30 and the pain in my stomach is unbearable. I keep burping but no relief. I took gasx at 10:30 and 2 chewabl//pepsid around 12:30 and still no relief. Help!

Bread

Okay. So I understand that bread is bad. And that we are to basically avoid it forever. My question is- is this all bread? All bread-like products? What about things like no and low-carb bread or wraps? Are these going to be forever no-nos as well? HW 420 SW 347 CW 329 Sleeved April 10, 2017
9. I lost 60 pounds before surgery from the 1500 calorie meal plan (low fat, low carb, high protein), the Water, and the exercise plan that were part of the 6 month diet/exercise pre-op. I was only required to lose 10. I was doing 3 meals and 2 Snacks (sometimes), but max 1500 calories. Sometimes I only did about 1200 calories, as I lost and just wasn't hungry. The second 3 months I was doing a Protein shake for Breakfast / as one meal. I've never done it for two meals. But my shakes were mostly made from the Protein powder / soy milk (or almond milk) and very little fruit. Or unjury chicken Soup with water. Not the ready-to-drink stuff unless I was in a hurry. (not sure the carb difference, or it if mattered) Lots of people questioned why I went ahead with surgery. My issue was the regain. I had lost 75 with WW once before (and that was about 45 before my HW) and found it again. Surgery truly is a personal decision, and I'm glad I made it for me. But losing weight will definitely make you feel better mentally and physically. Good luck!

12. hi everybody, I miss u all. I was sleeved 29/10/2009. I lost so far 66 pounds. I need to lose 27.5 more pounds. I am almost five monthes out now. am i going to continue losing? can u tell me at which time after surgery your body stopped losing? I am not exercising regularly apart from walking like 30 minutes a day and may be more some days. I heard that you can still lose weight one year away from surgery. is this true? I feel much better already but I need to have a normal BMI and can't wait to see my dream coming true.

New here :)

Hi everyone! I am new here was told by a friend of mine to stop in. I recently found out I'm preggers and looking for forums/threads for pregnancy post op bariatric surgery. A little about me I'm from Fort Worth, TX and had Open RNY on 10/01/2003 by Dr Hugh Babineau in Tyler TX almost 11 years ago. My starting weight was 276 and I have lost and maintained a 136 lb weight loss. I had all my reconstructive plastic surgery March 2005 with Dr. John LoMonaco in Houston TX which was a full body lift (tummy tuck with muscle repair, butt lift, outer thigh lift, contour liposuction) and a BL/BA. Hi y'all I'm 37 with no kids (first pregnancy I miscarried) so needless to say I'm excited and scared all at the same time. I've been very career minded and am starting my family a little later an most. I'm looking forward to getting to know everyone and reading all about everyone's journeys. I love to hear and support someone starting out or are as far out as me!

Letter to Insurance

Did you give BCBS a weight history from just one Dr? I had to submit my weight history from other Dr.s from the last 2 years. That REALLY helped them decide on approval after a denial and an appeal process! Don't be discouraged. Just be persistant and ask your provider to help you. My provider actually spent time talking with the nurse who was reviewing my file for approval. I must have received 10 phone calls that day about getting more info to them. My provider said later that more info was needed and she had to keep working with the nurse from my insurance company to make sure I got the approval. You can't do it alone, get the help from the provider! They should know a lot about your approval and they should be 100% involved! Good luck. It took 1 month from start to denial, than 1 more month of waiting from appeal to approval for me. Before that, I had to do 3 months of supervised diet. I started in June and am finally being banded on Dec. 3rd. So glad it took so long because I spent 2 months on the preop diet in addition to the 3 months of supervised dietician diet. I have really changed my eating habits and proved to myself that I can do this. I needed this time. A blessing in disguise.
16. I'm hooked on sugar. I need to start counting calories i guess. i love snacking...

Good News About Chat!

Yes he does, and not only is it packed with healthy oils, its got so many great nutrients and Fiber. I actually do eat a small palmful (about 10) of almonds about every 2-3 days. I get full on them very fast though and I have to chew them up to smithereens... LOL Oh yeah and it will be nice to have the old Chatroom back!! Fa'Sho!!
18. I called my doc to make sure what it was because my pre op appt isn't till 10/21 at 3pm and my surgery is Oct 27th I wanted to get at least a week of the pre op diet in. My original surgery was scheduled for Nov 3rd but they switched me to Oct 27 and said it was fine to keep my pre op appt where it was. I think because they had to reschedule almost 20 people. My pre op consists of two Protein shakes a day, 3oz of lean protein, 1 cup veggie or salad with low fat dressing, and 1 cup fruit. I don't like vegetables so today I had a Protein shake for Breakfast, lettuce with 3oz of chicken on it with low fat dressing. dinner was a protein shake and I will have my apple in a little bit.

My 6 weeks post op update

Great job! Keep it up! Congrats! SW 350 (11/15) BSW 260 (10/17/17) CW 217.6 (1/22/18) RGW 199 GW 175
20. I have had pretty good success with my band for the last 1.5 years. I am heading to my 2 year anniversary..I have lost 65 lbs which is pretty much within 10 lbs of goal for me. Three weeks ago developed terrible reflux, and after going back 2 times, have had the fluid now taken out of my band, so now I am wide open. The odd thing is, I am eating the same, and not going overboard. I am gratefull that I have adopted a healthy exercise program and 95% of the time, eat healthy. So here I sit...Able to eat the old foods, but to leary to actually do it.......I will start to be slowly refilled again in a couple of months...IN The meantime, I better watch my Ps and Qs...now i know why it is so important to adopt a good exercise program and healthy way of eating...FOR TIMES LIKE THIS WHEN THE FLUID IS GONE....WOOOZER.....

Is This Normal?

I beleive everyone is different. I am 10 weeks out from being sleeved and I can gulp water and other things pretty quckly.
22. I had some frozen greek yogurt..I guess it was too sweet...although when I was eating it, I was fine. About 10 minutes later I was nauseous(had to have that extra bite) but I also had this "someone just poured 10lbs of sugar down my throat"..taste in the back of my throat..I get this occasionally from certain foods..anyone else get this?

Damn. Back to clear liquids!

Every doctor does have different eating plans. But just because they say to do it doesn't mean you have too. In my case at 19 days post op there is no way I can start purees yet, my body does not feel up to it yet, so listen to your body. My NUT is on board with this and says some can take 4 weeks to get to purees. Also I hear chicken should be the absolute last food to try, some say that canned, like tuna, may be easier. Stick to pureed eggs, tuna, soft fish, beans, cottage cheese and yogurt.

Movie Seats :(

I am flying in August & am hoping that I can comfortably sit without the arm rests digging in my thighs! We are going on an Alaskan cruise & one of our excursions is ziplining. There is a 250 weight limit. Thankfully I'm below that, but not by much. The more you weigh, the slower you go. My husband is about 10 lbs lighter than me so my fear is that he'll fly down & I'll be slowly gliding. So my goal is to weigh less than him by the time we go!
25. Hey guys! So I was sleeved May 6th and have undergone several major surgeries and about 16 smaller procedures to correct a leak that occurred 10 days after my initial surgery. That being said I was put out of work for the last 6 months and have now returned to work as of the 7th of this month. I will gladly add that I have been, what I call, foreign object free for about a month. Currently I have lost a total of 156lbs since the date of surgery, and although physically I look good (very few stretch marks, no saggy skin, etc.) I'm having a problem with just daily stamina and exhaustion. My doctor says that along side of the fat loss, I have also lost most of my muscle mass as well. My back will start to hurt after some time being up and active due to lack of core strength, and I need some advice with this. I'm now able to eat soft foods after having been on NPO (no food or drink by mouth) for almost 6 months. So I'm trying to be mindful as to what I'm eating and reminding myself to eat as well. But it doesn't seem to be helping too much. Any and all advice will be greatly appreciated!! Thanks guys!!
