I'm six week post-op and have taken weekend trips. At six weeks, I don't have restrictions on types of food - I can eat out without any issues - just have to pick the restaurants. Diners and steak houses are easy - italian is hard but I can find a protein option. You will be fine. Enjoy your trip.

I went to Florida at 6 weeks. We rented a whole house so we could cook. I felt good. We went out to eat and used take out containers. We went on jet skis and you the beach. I felt great. Take your vitamins with you and enjoy.
  3. Well, almost! After getting the sleeve on the 13th I head back to work on Wednesday, which just happens to be the day I can start on soft foods and it's my birthday!! I have to say that I had what seems to be a really speedy, successful, and thankfully uneventful recovery. My time in the hospital was fine, I happen to work at the hospital where I had surgery so I had some friendly visitors from colleagues and great care (which I know would have happened no matter what) and I was told all along the way how well I was doing. I had my surgery at 9am on Tuesday and was out around 10. My Dr. said that it went great, that there was minimal bleeding and when I woke up I didn't even have drains in. The PCA pump with my pain meds was a blessing but I didn't use it all that often and I was up and walking that afternoon. I got home on Wednesday after urinating on my own and doing the swallow test to check for leaks. All was well and I was home on my own couch by (everyone else's) dinner time. One thing that was really hard was that I got NO liquids or ice chips my entire stay. I was soo thirsty the whole time so when I got home, sipping juice was fantastic. My first 3 days post op was all juice all the time, 100% juice diluted 1/2 & 1/2 with Water. After that I progressed to Protein shakes and I'm on those until Wednesday. I'm so tired of the sweet shakes so I've been enjoying blended Soups with unflavored powder. I weighed myself the morning of surgery and I was 257.5 and I am now 241 so I'm down 16.5 lbs. in less than 2 weeks. I think that's a good start but I really don't have anything to compare it to- I just know that's better than anything else I've ever done! I'm really looking forward to moving onto the soft foods stage although I'm a little nervous about starting that while I'm back at work. Thankfully the admin I work with had this surgery last year and knows everything I'm going through so I have someone to compare notes to. I am feeling good, happy that I'm almost at the point where I can incorporate some soft healthy foods and I'm actually excited to start planning healthy meals for me and my partner. I'm really enjoying reading everyone's posts and hope to be an active part of this site!
  4. Thanks for your responses. I'm sure it will be fine. Some of my labs the surgeon ran were slightly off but I know why. My cholesterol was slightly elevated at 201 but in March it had been 176 - but I spent the month of August - right before I had the blood work done- eating out a lot at restaurants I won't be able to go to for a while so that wasn't really unexpected. With the higher fat content of restaurant foods I actually thought it might be worse than it was. My triglycerides were pretty high though - they had never been that high before - but again I think it was from eating out. All of that should be cleared up after the surgery with the new eating I will be doing. I've actually really calmed down on the eating out over the last month and this week - before my NUT appt and the start of my liquid diet - I've been eating pretty clean and pretty healthy with the exception of (literally) 3 small bits of a sweet treat - and 2 small bags of ruffles. Over the weekend I hope to be able to stick with 2 liquid protein meals and one regular meal of chix & veggies - so I'll be ready to start that liquid diet on Wednesday. Thanks again for the words of encouragement.
  5. Where is Dr. Gagne located? I switched to Dr Hamad. I am done with all preop stuff except last weigh in - which is next week. But,i got a call from dr. Hamads PA and he said they require additional blood work, so I'm waiting on that script. But he also told me that the last few he submitted, from my insurance, have been denied and they are requiring 1 more weigh in. So, i guess, now I have to wait another month.

Hello, Got Banded 2 1/2 weeks ago

The best advice I can give you is 1) FOLLOW THE DOCTOR'S ORDERS and 2) FOLLOW THE DIETICIAN'S PROGRAM. You sound like you're still on liquids or pureed foods. Hang in there. Real food is out there somewhere for you! Once you start on solids, cut tiny pieces and chew, chew, chew.... Then when you're done chewing, chew some more. This will get old quickly, but if the solids you're putting down don't get through your stoma, they're coming back for a second run at it. Also, drink something about 10-20 minutes before you eat and then don't drink ANYTHING while you're eating. You want the food you've just eaten to keep giving you that full feeling as long as possible. Wait about 20 minutes to drink anything after a meal then sip slowly. I can brag that I followed the program to the letter: measuring or weighing everything, pacing myself throughout the day and not deviating one iota. I've been a little easier on myself in the past few weeks, but I've dropped over 70 pounds in 3 1/2 months. One last thing to mention. If your surgeon's office offers support group meetings, go to every one you can. Listening to problems other people have experienced and listening to the advice they get is invaluable. You'll also get a chance to brag or gripe and get support for either. Good luck!
  7. I'll be 4 weeks out on Tuesday. For the last nearly 2 weeks, I make a point of snacking. B/c my restriction varies, sometimes I can go hours and remind myself to eat to refuel. But sometimes I'm hungry every two hours. A few people here have pointed out that they eat 5 small 'meals' a day - so perhaps that's what I'm doing. I find that proteins are the only thing I'll snack on, for the 'full' factor. String cheese, cottage cheese, shaved ham or turkey, tofu. Now, this weekend, I'm dealing with my first bought of PMS since surgery. Pre-band my sweet tooth is endless - and post band I'm finding the same thing! So, rather than 'suffer' through - I had a little bit of ice cream, and I've sucked on some 'dark' Lindor chocolates. Pre-band, I'd have eaten a whole candy bar at a time...not now. I'm just trying really hard to make better choices, at least until my first fill.

    Surgery this Friday

You will be fine. Just look on this site for answers to your questions (always defer to your doc, of course). I made it through the first few weeks with by reading about others experiences. My surgery went like this: Go in 8:00 am, into surgery at 9:00, waking up 10:30 and out by 11:00. Very easy. Just take it easy untill your body tells you it is time to get moving. Follow doc's eating orders and smile, for you will be eating like a "normal" person soon. Good luck

    Scared liver didn't shrink!

I say this all the time: breathe in, breathe out, move on! You've done fine!!! 20 pounds in 2 weeks is awesome. I'm sure you won't have a problem in the operating room.
  10. There are so many variations on the pre-op diet from what to eat/drink to length of time (the post-op diet, as well). If you're unsure about what you are supposed to be doing pre-op, I agree with Cherish, you need to call your doctor. For instance, my pre-op was two weeks long, so I might have been given more leeway on what I was allowed to have versus someone with a shorter period of time.
  11. Thanks James, wonderful information on your link. I've just had a stall for a couple of weeks so dropped a Protein shake and added the small egg/cheese at Breakfast and reduced the protein a little. Next stall I might swap the egg and cheese back to a Protein Drink and change the exercise up a bit. It's so funny how results, progressions, stalls, how to break a stall are so widely different for everyone. I think just have to follow your own Docs / Nuts orders then when you stall, ride it out for a while then try what others do and see what works with you. 12. Hi all, Just wondering what bypass peeps are eating 5 weeks out. Not sure if there is a thread / topic already. I know we each follow our doctors / nut's plans / advice but just wondered what people are doing and looking to share dietary plans / advice. My WLS journey was Band, Band to Sleeve, then Sleeve to Bypass. (Yep 3 ops!). Pre band weight - 136kg Weight at last revision (Bypass) on the 10th May 2016 - 103kg Weight today - 94.9kg Goal weight - 80kg Here's what I'm having each day this week : 630am - I have a 250ml glass of Water and my Multivitamin liquid, Biotin liquid, sublingual B12. 0730am - (On the way to work) 2 x calci-chews with vit D and a coffee (250ml) with fat free added Calcium milk and a stevia for sweetener. 1000am - At work around 10am I'll have 1 scrambled egg with a low fat slice of cheese in it (can do it in the microwave). 12pm - I'll have a super greens type drink (500ml) with chia seeds and konjac root powder added to thicken it a little and maybe a little flavour free Protein powder. 2pm - Pre made portion of pureed chicken breast with veggies (200ml) Then just water / tea / coffee until I'm home. A couple of coloxyl and Senna laxative tablets if I need them. 6pm - Another pre made pureed chicken breast with veggies (200ml) 8pm - Half an Optifast lemon water desert (love them!) with sugar free jelly. (200ml) Then just tea and water until bed time. Might chuck a bit of benefibre in if I feel like it. Sometimes if I'm hungry anywhere in between the above I'll add up to 1 Protein shake / optifast Soup with konjac root powder to thicken a little. I find adding a small amount of the konjac root powder, just thickens liquidy type drinks ever so slightly increase my satiety. Also I'm 8 weeks of the cigarettes and no booze for ages :-( lol. I'm planning on a glass of wine or maybe 2 as a treat when I get to 90kg though :-) Does anyone else use Konjac root? Looking forward to your replies :-) Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App

    Stomach feels "backed up"

Of course, it's always best to give your doc office a call with any concerns. When is your next appointment? I am 3 months out tomorrow. I have never been able to eat as much as most everyone else can. My food almost always feels 'stuck' for hours. No drinking for 30 min before and 30 min after? Ha! I can't drink for at least an hour or two after I eat anything with dense Protein involved. I do have another appointment next week so I'll talk to my doctor then about me. How big of a bite are you taking? Does Water hurt? Do warm things feel weird too? Sometimes temperature plays a part in this as well. Can you do Protein drinks OK?

    Lapband Changing My Life

My husband has been very nasty to me over the years as my weight ballooned. We've been married 17 years. Its probably one of the reasons i gained so much over emotional eating in the first place. I was told six weeks wait after surgery for the fill. Another six for follow up fill. And check back at six months. But i haven't had a surgeon consult yet for details. They wait for approval. Do i have bad info on the process timing?

    Hi

My sw was 280… I’m a little over 9 months out and I’m down 101lbs. At 3 months out, I was down around 45lbs. I’ve had a few stalls here and there but I couldn’t be happier. Remember - it’s a staircase, not a slope.

    Just got banded 11/7

Hello - I hope your healing goes well! I'm banded 3 weeks today (Oct 19th). My port area is still sore sometimes, I think it takes a good 4 weeks (or more) to totally heal that area. Don't get me wrong, it's MUCH better now than 1 week post-op. Every now and then I'll bend the wrong way, or stretch ... EEEYOWCH! Just hang in there, after 2 weeks you'll feel much better, then it's just little "reminders" of pain here and there. Good luck!

    Torn...

Up until 3 weeks ago I was convinced I wanted the lap band. I met the HAPPIEST lady ever when I went for my consultation and she had the sleeve. She was so happy and had her 2 small grand kids with her. I know that I was looking for the least evasive but now I am thinking the sleeve looks better because of the maintenance of the lap band. How painful and how long is the sleeve recovery?

For me it's whenver disovlable stitches are gone so I figure about two weeks I'm planning to give it a go at our family reunion which is 13 days out though might use Water proof band-aids just to be extra safe. I'm also planning to just walk around .. nothing hard core.

    Sleeved 5/23

Hi, I also had surgery the same day. I just found this message board 2 days ago. My insurance company required 3-4 months pre-op with no specific weight loss required. I started off at 341 lbs and was 328 on the say of surgery. I am on clear liquids and 3 Protein shakes a day until next week. Then I go down to 2 Protein Shakes and soft foods for 1 meal for another 2 weeks. My recovery has been pretty unremarkable which I am surprised and grateful for. My biggest issue right now is gas pains that happen at night. Luckily gas-x helps with that.
