Does it get in the way? Maybe a little but not nearly as much as my big fat belly did. Don't know if it is a turn off, depends on how vain your partner is. Since I am married my wife doesn't seem to be turned off by it, of course she didn't really mind when I was 390 lbs either. Do I feel self conscience. Not nearly as much as I did when I was at my maximum weight, of course I am not out to win any beauty contests and I really don't plan on showing up at the beach in a speedo either.

Tomorrow I am two weeks out. My surgeon requires a two day pre op diet of liquids only but I also had to loose ten % of excess weight before they would make a date. I have lost that and trying to lose a little more. Curious what was your two week diet? I am kind of doing a low carb/sugar, low fat, high protein diet. Some days I have just done protien shakes for morning or lunch and just a regular dinner. Congrats on your success! Your doing Great! -

My husband bought me a Townie 21 cruiser for Mother's Day two years ago and I love it. Go to e l e c t r a. It is REALLY comfortable. I started riding on a mountain bike (two different ones) and had lots of problems that I think were weight-related. My rear never adjusted to the seat and my back and arms ached constantly when we rode and for days after. I'm sure there are lots of people on here who do great with mountain bikes but the cruiser works MUCH better for me. You sit up much straighter and there is less pressure on the arms and the back - and no problems with the rear soreness after the first couple of rides in the spring. My husband (who is a very big guy - 320 lbs - but much higher proportion of muscle to fat than me) rides a nice big mountain bike and prefers that. I'll stick with the cruiser. I love my baby blue Townie!

Praying To Be A Candidate
donali replied to bandmenow's topic in Tell Your Weight Loss Surgery Story
According to the height/weight charts I am familiar with, 5'5" at 238 would be more than 100 pounds overweight. I think it's a certain BMI, or 100 pounds overweight, so if that's the case you should qualify. Life would be bleak without friends, but sometimes... lol Sometimes, they just don't say the right things. We love them anyway. Good luck to you! -
Suggestions: * Try to be patient. This is not a quick-fix process, and although we all want this done yesterday, it doesn't work that way. It may be months until banding, and in that time learn as much as you can from others. I must have read every post on banding on the internet, and in doing so there were no surprises. Hearing what others went through - good and not so good - prepared me for anything and everything. * Walk; walk; and walk some more after banding. Regrets: * I regret not taking the time to "cut and paste" things that I read that grabbed me at the moment. Now when I read a post that I feel I may want to refer to in the future, I copy and paste it into a Word document, otherwise to try and find it again later is almost impossible. My first week: *..... has been just fine. Although there has been some pain, it's been minimal; mostly just mild discomfort. Rather than thinking too much about the present, I'm trying to look to the future and imagine what it will be like to move and breathe without pain; to cross my legs, to shop in regular stores, etc. My faith sustains me through everything. I'm not going to turn this into a religious forum, but you asked what worked for me. When I have pain, I think about what Jesus went through and realize this is nothing. I gain a lot of strength through prayer. Everyone has to do what works best for them. I can only repeat what many have already said, that this is one of the best things we've done for ourselves. Please let us know how your appointment goes. We really do care!!

Just take it slow and build up. If you rush things, you'll probably get injured, so take it easy, but increase everything 2-3 minutes every week or so. Give it a bit, then worry about weight training.

What would you do to deal with a weight problem if you couldn't have WLS?
RainyDay replied to RainyDay's topic in The Lounge
Probably not 100% hopeless, you're right...but not that hopeful either IMO. I will keep pressing her to talk to her doc about this. She's been fighting her weight for so many years that I feel like this is just going to make her give up. I am normally not for crash diets like Medifast but her weight is so aggravating to her health conditions - I wish I had a crystal ball and could see if she's able to exercise after losing 75 pounds or something, you know? -
So today, for the first time in a long time I am no longer obese. My BMI is 29.8 so I am classed as overweight. I don't really agree with the whole BMI thing but it feels good to know that I am almost at a healthy weight. Just 30 more pounds to go! For anyone that has plateaued, stick with it. I've finally started losing weight after a 3/4 month plateau and it feels really good. Just yesterday 4 different people told me how slim I was looking. I will never grow tired of these compliments!

Hello all, New guy here. I live in Texas and am just starting the process of Lap Banding. I go for my first consultation appointment next Thursday (08/17). I have pretty much made up my mind that this is something I have to do. I have been heavy all my life and nothing has seemed to work fo rme. I'm 40 and figure if I don't have this done now, I may have very well already seen over half of my life but if I lose the weight I may live to see 80, heck maybe even 90! My goal right now is to get banded in January of this coming year. I look forward to all your suggestions, information and support. I'll be lurking around here somewhere.

Thanks for sharing Sandy. I was banded on 5-6-04 and I got on the scales this morning and was plesantly surprised that I had lost 4 more lbs. I am now down 33lbs. So I thionk I am doing pretty good 16 more lbs and I will be under 200. I cant wait. I have been eating sillouets ice cream sandwiches for my chocolate fix. But today I bought some York peppermint patties (the small ones), because Ive heard that they dont have much to make you gain weight. I am allways curious as to what everyone eats, Thanks so much for sharing and congratulations... Love Janie -
I HAVE BEEN TRING TO GET APPROVED FOR MY SURGERY SINCE AUGUST 2003. MY SURGERY IS OCT 6 2004. I FINALLY WAS APPROVED SEPTEMBER 8 2004. THEY DECLINED ME ONCE. YOU JUST HAVE TO MAKE SURE THAT YOUR HEALTH PROBLEMS ARE SO SEVERE THAT YOU WILL NEED TO HAVE THE SURGERY. I HAVE HIGH BLOOD PRESSURE, HYPOGLYCEMIA,( OF COURSE-MORBID OBESITY),HEADACHES,NAUSEA,VOMITING,LEG AND FEET PAIN. JUST ABOUT EVERYTHING YOU CAN THINK OF. I JUST COULD NOT NAME THEM ALL. I WENT TO TALK TO A PSHYCOLOGIST SEVERAL TIMES BEFORE THEY THOUGHT THAT I WOULD BE APPROVED FOR THE SURGERY. THEY WANT TO MAKE SURE THAT YOU ARE BEING HONEST WITH YOURSELF AND NOT JUST WANTING TO LOSE THE WEIGHT TO LOOK GOOD ONLY. IN MY OPINION I FELT LIKE I NEEDED TO BE COUNSELING MY PHYCHIATRIST BECAUSE SHE TOLD ME MORE ABOUT HER PROBLEMS MORE THAN I. I SPENT ALOT OF MONEY AND TIME TRING TO GET THE SURGERY APPROVED. SOMETIMES IT MADE ME CRY BECAUSE I LET MYSELF GET SO BIG. EVERYONE THINKS IT IS SO EASY TO LOOSE WEIGHT BUT IT IS NOT. I HAVE TRIED ALL THE WEIGHT LOSS pills OUT THERE. I HAVE EVEN TRIED TO STARVE MY SELF BY EATING 1 BITE OF food. I TRIED EXCERSIZING UNTIL I WAS EXHAUSTED. NONE OF IT WORKED FOR ME. THIS IS ONE REASON WHY I AM HAVING THE SURGERY. I AM ALSO TIRED OF WALKING TO THE BACK OF THE STORES JUST TO LOOK AT PLUS SIZE CLOTHES. (AS IF WE NEED TO WALK ANY FURTHER . I'M READY FOR THE CHANGE. I READY FOR A HEALTHER LIFE. I READY TO LIVE LONGER AND BE A STRONGER AND HAPPIER PERSON. HOW ABOUT YOU? __________________ OCT 6TH IS MY LAP BAND

O.K., I have pm'd my dr. website to you. I'm not advertising for him. But he has an excellent pre-op questionnaire that asks you all about previous attempts at weight loss. I'm sure there are things on there that you have done and have forgotten. Have you pm'd Betty (Iluvharleys) and asked her for info.? She is great at collecting info. Best of luck to you!

Almost 1 month out-I went to the GYM today!!!
fern replied to fern's topic in Weight Loss Surgery Success Stories
Thanks everyone!! I went 5 days in a row, but my body is rebelling as a pulled groin. So I took today and maybe tommorrow off and then I'm back at it. I'm already starting to notice a difference in the running time. I can run for longer at a time. But a question...... When you started back at the gym, did you feel bloated and gain Water weight? I was at 189 when I started at the gym. Within a couple days I was at 194.5!! I upped my carbs ( from 60 to 80)and Protein ( from 80 to 100) for the gym, but now I'm wondering if I shouldn't have. Any ideas? -
I am 10 weeks out from surgery and am happy to say I am down 42lbs! I get frustrated sometimes due to my impatience, but I have never lost this much weight so fast. My older brother just saw me this weekend and gave me a big WTG high five. My clothes fit me better and I am actually fitting in to stuff I havent for over two years. I thank God for his guidence in seeking out this surgery, Was it worth it? YES! I would do it again!. All praise to you Lord.

Ugh why can't this be positive?
Sophie74656 replied to Soxgirl's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
you can do it!!! it sucks not to have family support but this is something you're doing for you. It's NOT an easy way out. It's simply a tool to help you loose weight. That's what people don't get. It's not an EASY way out, it's not a magic want. It's just another tool in our fight, we still have to choose what we eat, we still have to exercise -
Today I am 22 days away from my surgery and I have only told a handful of people but my family is so negative. I keep hearing things like you could lose the weight of you tried, surgery is the easy way out and so on!!! I will be 40 years old in November, my son is graduating from high school this year and I need to take care of myself. My grandma died from her medication she took because she was diabetic. I want to be healthy! I am not going to change my mind I just have to be strong for the next 22 days!!! I'm going to do this if I have to do it alone!!!

4 more pounds down, uhh wasn't even trying.
klus263 replied to mp8btpc's topic in Weight Loss Surgery Success Stories
Congrats....I have been in a stall for this past week, stuck at 188. After having a great meeting with the nutritionist for my 6 week followup and she documented an average of 4.5 lbs a week and now nothing. But I have not gained and hopefully the weather will warm up so I can get out and walk some more. -
I started this journey at 290 pounds, and promised myself that when I reached my first major goal, I could buy some new clothes. Today I weighed in at 250! Mission accomplished! Guess who gets to go shopping this next weekend! New underwear first--the old bras and panties are way too big. Next goal is 225. I'll actually think about getting some new jeans and tops then. BTW, I went to the thrift store this weekend and bought some broomstick skirts. I didn't even check the sizes. If they are too small, I'll fit into them someday, and if they fit now or are too big, I'll put a drawstring through the elastic casing. I'll be able to wear them until I'm almost at my final goal weight! That will help with my clothing budget. I now have 8 of these skirts, probably spent no more than $50 on all eight. New they cost $35 apiece or more. Now, I'm not a skirt person, I never liked shaving my legs that often, but these are long skirts and are great for traveling. Just roll them up and stuff them in the suitcase. Just an idea I thought I'd pass on.

Gastric sleeve to bypass revision?
Lynn77 posted a topic in Revision Weight Loss Surgery Forums (NEW!)
Hello all, New to the forum here. I had a gastric sleeve done back in 2012, the first 2 years were great and I was happy with my weight loss. After that, for the past few years I've been putting weight back on, so far nearly 50 lbs. I am seriously considering going to Mexico for the sleeve to bypass revision. Has anyone else had this surgery? What was your experience? Were there any hidden fees for revision surgery? Thanks all! -
Gastric sleeve to bypass revision?
Lynn77 replied to Lynn77's topic in Revision Weight Loss Surgery Forums (NEW!)
One of my main issues, since I had the surgery is horrid acid reflux, and even vomiting (the acid) in my sleep. While my weight loss hasn't been great, and I would also like to address that separately, fixing the reflux/vomiting problem is top of my list. I have talked to a few people who had the same problem and said that the bypass had fixed it with no further issues. -
April 18th sleevers, how ya doin?
jeffrey replied to MegInNOLA's topic in Weight Loss Surgery Success Stories
I don't think my sleeve is small or picky either one. I targeted losing about 100 lbs. so, we are close to the same. I have not been vigilant about exercise and when I am better, the weight falls off more quickly. Guess I am just grateful that it helps so much if I am tempted to eat too much at once. Its a huge help. It is too easy to eat chips and snacky food, and of course things like ice cream are too dangerous to try. But, overall, while I may not lose as fast as some, or as much, I am so much happier and healthier now, and do believe I will continue to lose. Thanks for your encouragement.
