    Force Feeding

Ok, so don't beat yourself up too much. You have to learn from this. Not sure how far out you are but this is a process. My therapist tells me over and over that I did not gain all this weight overnight and how could I possibly expect change those lifelong habits overnight. Well more accurately she even says how could I imagine changing it in 10 months (as I am 10 months post-op). I made some bad choices this weekend - at least scallops aren't a terrible choice! Track it and make a note how full you got and how miserable that made you and it will remind you next time. The only way I seem to learn is by vomiting. Not really the way I want to learn that I ate too much! Own up to it, see it on paper, reflect on how you don't want to feel this way again and then move on. If we don't learn from our mistakes, we just keep beating ourselves up and move back towards that old cycle we all lived before of overeating. Don't let that happen!
  2. I had my surgery on Dec. 19- In the past 2 days I have been unable to sleep, feel the Adrenalin running through my system, chewing my nails, feeling hyper, anxious--NOT depressed. I am excited about my surgery and potential weight loss. Could this be because I have had a few cups of regular coffee and tea instead of decaf? Has anyone else had this problem????

    bcbs/il hmo..the med grps decide

From what I have heard the Med Grp decides if you are approved for the referral letter and once BCBS has that you get the surgery. The nurse told me not to lose much weight during the diet or I would not get the referral. What med grp are you with? My med grp used to have a 12 month diet for HMO and 10% wt loss but recently changed that because so many people were complaining. Im sure some day these 6 month diets will be a thing of the past. I have a 25 year diet that I could tell them all about. Please keep us posted on your progress.

    Scale Is Stuck. -_-

So I had my band on Jan 3rd 2010. 10 days post op and Ive lost about 12 pounds. I am super excited and all that jazz.. It seems like my scale is stuck between 263 and 264 and no matter what I do It just seems to go down to 263 and the next morning im up again. I thought about throwing my scale into a blazing fire of dark abyss but I need it..lol Ive been walking and trying not to over do it with liquid.. anyone else have this problem? I really need the scale to love me again Its starting to bum me out. anyone?
  10. Hello Everyone, I am new here.... My Sleeve Gastrectomy surgery was Wednesday,May 4, 2011 in Stratford, NJ performed by Dr. Luis Balsama. On Wednesday morning while going to the hospital it began to rain and I remember thinking how awesome because for me the rain symbolized washing away the old and allowing the new to come and be nourished. Anyhow as I entered the Admission office in the hospital the woman registering confided in me that she had a the gastric by pass weight loss surgery performed about three years ago and it was the best decision she had ever made in her life. I felt a little more encouraged although 2 different procedures that i was moving in the right direction for my life. Anyhow i am six days after surgery and i am still sore but im feeling stronger and better everyday. I have lost about 10 lbs already and i'm excited to see what's to come once im back in the gym. I'm so excited that my future looks bright... I may need shades....LOL corny i know but extremely excited Maxi

    New with PCOS

Hi there! I was dx'd with PCOS about 10 years ago here. I've been on and off Metformin ever since then. UGH. I stopped taking it a month ago when I finally decided I was a go for this. It never really did anything for me anyway unless I was taking fertility meds (like Clomid) to go with it. HATE the stuff!!! If you haven't been on meds yet, I wouldn't worry about it IMHO. As for doing anything different, I'll be looking for the advice of others on that too, especially since I haven't been banded yet.
  12. Yes, you'd be able to be banded in Australia from a BMI of 30 depending on your circumstances. Every single one of us here had a BMI of 30 at some point in time, that's what's so ridiculous about the feelings towards lower BMI bandsters - both from the medical profession and from some heavier people too. When I had that sort of BMI, I already had fifteen years of dieting and failing, feeling desperate about my weight and how I looked behind me and I hadnt even hit the stage of life of having babies and middle age spread. I was ALWAYS going to get heavier, and I'm bloody glad I stopped it at a BMI of 35 because I've been able to regain my health very quickly and easily with a band. Not to mention I havent ruined my skin too much by having it fit around a BMI of 45 for 10 years. You're right, Restless, it should be available to anyone in whom its safe - many people are normal weight but live very dysfunctional, difficult lives to stay that way. The band, when it works well, puts an end to the food obesession and habits that make people fat. If you want to call obesity a disease, then our actual weight is merely a symptom of the disease - you have it whether you weigh 100lb or 500. You are not CURED when you lose weight and you may still be sick if you manage never to gain too much weight. BMI and weight is almost irrelevant, its the condition that's important. Anyone who has it has the right to an effective treatment when it exists!

    What should I expect?

It's good that you are reading about the band before you get yours done. Yes there are complications as there is with any type of operation. However they don't happen to everyone. The complications with lapband are far less than the advantages of the band. I have only one regret myself and that is that I didn't get it done sooner. Other than that I have had no problems at all. I was banded 10/23/09 and am down 78lbs so far. I'm loving my new life. What you should expect after surgery. Yes you will be sore for a few days. But they give you pain pills and I suggest using them. I wouldn't necessarily say that you are in excruciating pain. If you have ever had your gallbladder out it is less painful then that. I had my surgery on a Friday and went back to work on Tuesday the following week. If you work, depending on what you do, you may also. If you have a desk job you should be able to return. If you are on your feet or you have to lift, I would suggest taking more time. If you have small children that you have to lift, you will need help with them. You won't be able to lift anything for 6 weeks. You will be on liquids for a couple weeks and then onto mushies. You will probably experience some gas pains after surgery because of the air that they pump into you when they are operating so they can clearly see inside of you. To help with this you will need to walk as much as you can after surgery and taking Gas-X strips help. You will probably not feel very hungry for the first week after your surgery but you have to force yourself to get the fluids down so you don't dehydrate. Once the swelling goes down you will find yourself getting hungry. The procedure itself takes about an hour. It's normal to be nervous and it's normal to be afraid. Keep reading and asking questions. You are in the right place. You can read my blog. It might help you a little. Good luck and if you have anymore questions please feel free to ask.

    Why Not Bypass?

I chose the sleeve because able I needed to be able to take NSAIDS, I didn't want the malabsorption, and I didn't want dumping. I wasn't diabetic and didn't comorbidities. I knew that statistically I would lose more with the bypass, but at the time I was over 300 pounds and it ALL seemed too good to be true. I figured 60% EWL would be good enough. So, fast forward 2 1/2 years, and I am happy with my decision. I lost about 90% of my excess weight, though it could be 100% if I changed my goal . My labs are normal and I don't need an excess of Vitamins to keep them there. I have never dumped or thrown up, and now I eat small normal size portions. (I do take vitamins, and I do follow the Bariatric Eating plan). I will admit there are times I wonder if I could have lost that last 5-10 pounds with the bypass, but it's a fleeting thought.
  15. I know this probably seems nuts, but I am looking for some reassurance. I was sleeved on 9/23 and by 1 week post-op I was down 10 pounds. (I had lost an additional 25 pounds prior to surgery.) In the past week the scale has not moved and I am freaking out a little. I am eating what I am supposed to (puréed foods and protein shakes) and exercising almost every day, though not as hard I I was pre-op as the incisions are still a bit sore. I read about other people who the weight just seems to be falling off and worry, even though we are all different, I know. Any words of wisdom or reassurance? I am thinking about not weighing every day.

    BCBS of Tennessee PPO

Thanks for your responses and I'm so glad to hearth at people have been satisfied with b BCBSTN, because I've heard otherwise. I'm not in TN, I work in DC, but my company is a TN based one, so it's been difficult because there not much in network choices here. Luckily, the hospital that is in network is good and a center of excellence. My requirements are 10% weight loss from high lest weight, BMI 40, Nut appointment, Psyh eval (must include a eating disorder inventory and MMPI personality inventory), 5 years documented weight loss. I'm 13 pounds away from my 10% and it's just frustrating because its been really hard to loose it. It's good to see others with this insurance because its taken me a while to find some ppl with it, so thanks for replying.

  18. I am 10 days post op and I don't feel well at all. I had the surgery last Thursday came home Friday and was admitted again on Saturday for dehydration and gastritis.... I'm on all types of meds for my stomach including a cocktail of mylanta and some other stomach medicines. Every time I swallow anything to drink I get a horrible pain in my belly. I get a weird feeling in my throat that starts to bubble then I burp but it feels like I wanna vomit. I contracted shingles while being admitted so I'm on antibiotics for that now also. I'm borderline depressed and questioning why did I do this to myself. Hoping and praying things get better but woke up today feeling like I have a chest cold. I don't think I'm taking in E ought fluids because like I said it hurts going down. I have a appt tomorrow with my Dr hopefully he can give me so positive info and say this to shall pass. Anyone else go thru anything similar. Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App
  19. So I get sleeved on 10/22, but here's the thing. I don't respond well to ketosis. It makes me angry, anxious, and generally makes me feel like I'm losing my mind. Now, the doc/nutritionist and I have already worked out what's going to happen pre-surgery (low carb, but not zero-carb diet) but I'm wondering if this happens often post-op?

    Cheated On Pre-Op Diet

i was good 90% of the time and not so good the other 10%. i still lost 6 lbs and my few small cheats had no effect on my surgery. i wouldnt worry about it, i think the dr just wants you to lose weight to help your liver be smaller before surgery. call your drs office if you need to, im sure youre not the 1st person who cheated. good luck !!

    Pre-op weight loss?

My program wanted me to try to lose 10%, but a minimum of 5%.
  24. I'm still on mushy food and I ate roasted garlic with my mashed potatoes tonight. I now have such indigestion that I think I'm having a heart attack. I've walked the house since 10:30 and the pain in my stomach is unbearable. I keep burping but no relief. I took gasx at 10:30 and 2 chewabl//pepsid around 12:30 and still no relief. Help!

    Bread

Okay. So I understand that bread is bad. And that we are to basically avoid it forever. My question is- is this all bread? All bread-like products? What about things like no and low-carb bread or wraps? Are these going to be forever no-nos as well? HW 420 SW 347 CW 329 Sleeved April 10, 2017
