    Revision

With the sleeve you still have your stomach just smaller and narrower. When he did he revision he cut acrosss the top of the stomach to make the pouch. Then reroutes the intestine. The stomach is not removed. I don’t know about charges since I did not have either fir wright loss but for other issues that were medically necessary.

    So Many Choices!

The revision that you are contemplating, a RNY to DS is a very complex procedure, so tread very carefully and research, research, research. I haven't been as up on the DS world as I used to be (my wife is 12+ years out on hers,) but 4-5 years ago there were only about a half dozen surgeons in North America that one would trust to do this revision, none of whom were in Mexico. A virgin DS is already a step up in complexity to an RNY or VSG, which is why there are relatively few bariatric surgeons that offer it; the revision from an RNY is another step up from there. The Mx doc with the longest DS experience that I;m aware of is Dr. Gilberto Ungston (he was the only doc doing them reliably in MX 4-5 years ago, and had been working on training others to do the DS. Whether he is tackling the RNY/DS revision, I don't know, but he would be a good place to start if you want to keep it in Mx. You need to find people who have had that specific procedure done by surgeons that you can consider. I have run into a few people who have had it done, as I have dealt with a couple of the Calif surgeons who do the procedure, and it has been very worthwhile, at least if done by the right surgeon. You can't depend on advertising or online profiles of surgeons, as many will say they do this or that procedure and then sell you on what they actually can do once they get you in their office (something like a distal RNY is sometimes offered as "DS-like" revision that doesn't work nearly as well). It gets even trickier when you are self-pay as you don't have an insurance company on your side as an enforcer - a doc saying that he is doing one procedure and billing insurance for it and then doing a different procedure is guilty of insurance fraud, and the companies take a dim view of such things. So, you need to be extra careful when you are self pay, whether in Mx or the US. Good luck in your search....

    Want lapband out

I went in to my doctor and played up how painful my port was and he was able to get my insurance to cover the removal/revision after years of being denied. My band was removed in Feb. And my vsg will be on Nov. 1 Sent from my XT1635-01 using BariatricPal mobile app

    Want lapband out

Get it out! they can do permanent damage. I revised to RNY (self pay) and would do it ten times over. wish i'd just saved myself the 11 years of torture and done it years ago.

    My spouse is obese too

I hear that! I'm a woman married to a woman, too. I wish I had more concrete wisdom to offer, but my situation isn't exactly like yours. I'm having Lap-Band-to-gastric bypass revision surgery sometime in 4-6 weeks and my wife isn't -- because she is not overweight. However, I've become aware of relationship problems that can arise when one spouse has a drastic lifestyle change and the other does not, and that's something my wife and I have discussed at length. My marriage is wonderful and extremely valuable to me. Re: smoking and surgery: my surgeon does not perform surgery on smokers, but I was one until just a few months ago. A 2- or 10-year period of cessation isn't universal, then, clearly. Is there another surgeon your wife could consult, if still interested in pursuing surgery? If it indeed happens, though, that you have surgery and she does not, you are wise to think now about what the future might look like and proactive in talking to the program psychologist about it. None of these things are beyond your (plural "your") control, but you probably will need to do some hard work and thinking. What will it be like if there's envy of what you're able to accomplish? What will it be like if you enjoy living in a more healthy manner and aren't able to maintain respect if your spouse, without this super helpful tool, isn't able to keep up? Will there be tension if you have more energy and want to do new and different things, going out more, trying new activities, etc.? Being able to be really honest about bad feelings can go a long way toward protecting against their effects. The best to you!

    Bypass vs sleeve?

Just a couple of things. Some people do get the dumping syndrome with the Gastric Sleeve. The Sleeve surgery is kind of invasive, they remove 75 to 80%. In extreme cases they can reverse the RNY (I have been told) Also many have their Gastric Sleeve revised to a RNY. It all boils down to both work. You need to also do the work with both surgery. Good Luck in your choice of surgery and your ongoing journey.
  7. I have just started my research on revision surgery in Mexico! My head is spinning I'm looking to revise a failed RnY of 14years. I think I've decided on RnY to DS now to find a surgeon and start things on it's way! Any info on a good surgeon for revision would be so appreciated!!!

    Want lapband out

I just recently had a lapband to sleeve revision done, all in one surgery. The lapband was a huge waste of time and money for me. I had it in for 7 years and I'm so glad to be rid of it and actually on the way to a healthier me.

    Surgery didn’t work?

Wait...you've lost NOTHING since going from band to sleeve? Nothing at all after 18 months?? That's devastating esp after we do these things to our bodies. I def would consider going to bypass, but hell, I'm frustrated with my own slow loss rate so maybe I'm not the best one to recommend that to u. [emoji4] Sounds like u need some type of revision tho. I was told by my surgeon that going from band to bypass, as I did, my weight loss was going to be slower than people who haven't gone from band to another procedure, so I'm trying to be tolerant with my slow weight loss. But I'm only 1 month out. You're 18 months out and should be seeing results by now. So yes, I would FULLY consider another type of revision. To what, tho, I don't know. What are u leaning towards?

    Surgery didn’t work?

I am having this issue as well, but going from band to sleeve. I'm 18 months out and haven't lost anything. I feel hungry all the time and am wondering if that is how you are feeling too...? My Dr says I'm a good candidate for a revision, but there are a few options and I'm not sure which would be best- band over sleeve, bypass, or further reduction of the sleeve I have now. I just remember feeling full with my band and haven't had that feeling with my sleeve at all😔

    Revision

Yes, they turn the sleeve into a pouch and remove the pyloric valve and do the bypass. revisions are usually pricier than virgin surgeries because of the degree of complexity. Most revisions from sleeves to bypass though are done for medical reasons most common being severe GERD.

    Calling all October sleevers!!

I have my revision scheduled for the 18th! I'm so excited to get this damn band out of me and habe the surgery I should have had 9 years ago! Sent from my SAMSUNG-SM-G935A using BariatricPal mobile app
  13. I'm hoping for just one day with my revision! If you have any issues at all: slight fever, not drinking enough, numbers are off, etc, the doctor can keep you for as long as he sees fit.
  14. I just had my revision done on 9/25. I did a two week liquid diet and was in the hospital for two overnights. Surgery only took 1.5 hrs. My surgeon said there was minimal scar tissue and my liver had nicely shrunken so it made it go faster. I work from home and was able to start working again by the end of the week but only for a few hours. Last week I worked all week but had to take breaks and nap in the afternoon. Today is my first day back full time and so far I have a ton more energy. I even went back to my morning walks although only 2 miles today instead of my usual 3.

    Young, Short + Female

Because I'm having a revision from the original stomach stapling error, my doctor tells me that my surgery will be 6 or more hours. He's praying he can get this done and get an RNY. If he can't and I go through all this I just don't know what I'm going to do. I would appreciate prayers! Sent from my SM-G930T using BariatricPal mobile app

    Iron infusion

Hi, I'm curious what your iron level was? I've always been iron deficient but not too bad. Just had my Levels checked and my iron is super low. At what point is infusion an option? Band to Vsg revision: 5/23/17 HW: 315+ Starting weight: 294 Surgery Day: 281 Current: 226 Goal 170
  17. I haven't posted for a while but I am happy to give you my lapband to sleeve experience. In January 2018 it will be 3 years since I did the revision. I lost 90 pounds and I have maintained the loss within 7 pounds. I do go up and down within the 7 pound range. I am very happy with my maintenance. I wish I had lost about 20 more pounds but it appears I can maintain my current weight without a lot of struggle and my Doc has been very happy that I've maintained the loss. I'm 67 yrs old. My lapband to sleeve was done in one surgery. I asked my surgeon to get THAT THING out of me and do the sleeve all at once. Lapband was terrible experience in so many ways. Pain every day. The sleeve isn't perfect but for me SO MUCH better than lapband. I have no regrets at all.
  18. My doctor won't do the revision without 6 months in between. He said there's too much scarring and chance for complications. Mine was removed Feb 2017 And my sleeve surgery is scheduled for Nov 1.
  19. I was banded in 2009, lost about 80 pounds total, then started to have major issues and had to have surgery to repair it in 2012. It hasn't worked since then and I've gained over 50 pounds back since then. My new doctor does not do the revision in one go so he removed my band in Feb 2017 and I'll get my sleeve surgery on Nov. 1. I'm thrilled that after going through all the hoops my insurance finally approved it.
  20. This right here! Nearly identical to my story. My lap band was removed in Feb 2017 after I had it 8 years. My revision to sleeve is on Nov. 1, 2017. My BMI got down to 27 the first 2 years with the lap band but due to many issues including one surgery to repair it 5 years ago my weight crept up about a 10-14 pounds a year. My BMI is now about 37ish. A lot of people would look at me and think I should not need something as drastic as WLS but I don't want to go back to what I was. I have tried everything and just can't do it on my own. Good luck on your journey!
  21. Hi Timarland, I totally understand where you are at. I had the lapband for 14.5 years until my revision this week. I was surprised how short the stay was in the hospital. I checked in at 9:30 am on Tuesday and surgery was at 11:30 am. I stayed one night and the let me go home at 7:30 am the next day. It has been so different from the lapband and so far I love it.:)
  22. Sorry to dig up an old post, but I'm about to have a revision - you mentioned weight wasn't going away as much as you'd like - how is it now? How much did the sleeve help (or not) over the band? Thanks!
  23. How long was the surgery? How long did you stay in the hospital after your procedure? I'm having my revision in December - I've had the band for almost 10 years. Sucks.
  24. I was given some meds to help me with the milk supply gain 25lbs after having my baby she's now 8 months old I stopped taking the meds in may and stopped breastfeeding in the middle of aug. I started working out and I been able to loose 12lbs out of those 25lbs. I had the sleeve back in 2012 and I've never been on my weight goal. I just saw my surgeon on Thursday and he suggested to keep doing what I'm doing he said as longest I get full and eating how I'm supposed I don't need no revision, he just said just don't gain weight so I'm hoping I lose more lbs. I had friends that got their surgery in Mexico and they've lost tons of weight. TBH I don't want another surgery
