    Nsv

I'm so happy to hear about your NSV keep up the good work, we will be at goal sooner than you know it.
  2. I had lost about 50 lbs before co-workers started to notice and comment. Men tend to carry their fat around their organs (or so I understand) and so our weight loss doesn't always show immediately. However, with the clothes starting to get loose and my energy skyrocketing, I was still inspired to continue my journey. There are so many non-scale victories (NSVs) along the way, keep in mind that seeing the thinner you is but one great victory. Best of luck on your journey!

    What to tell work/coworkers

The question to tell or not, gets less and less important as the weight comes off. Your self esteem goes up, your medications go down, your life is brighter as you get into small clothes and all the other NSVs. It is funny when I quick smoking, I found that when I told people they seemed to push smokes my way. When I told people I had the band, they pushed food my way or made snide comments. Now that doesn't happen when I say with confidence no thanks and give no explanation. My small point being made is - why do we feel we need to give any explanation but we do? As someone posted, when people comment on her weight loss she smiles and replies "Thank you".
  4. To answer your question about 500 to 600 calories, I lost more like 10 lb a week except for stalls. At 3 months i still am eating around 700 calories a day, not sure. i don't count calories, i just focus on 3 oz protein a meal and getting in as much liquids a day as i can. i have 6 meals a day and always try and eat a high quality extended release protein shake with water at or right before bed. it helps your body burn calories all night. There have been a few stalls so far of varying lengths, but you still lose inches and have other NSV during this time. Even though I stalled out for sometimes 10 days, I did not stress out about it. We have already won by having this surgery. If you just follow the basics and eat cleanly, you will be a big success. Good luck!

    Nsv!

I went in for a follow-up today. Completely in the green zone and no fill needed or wanted. I am down almost 40 lbs and the NP said I have far exceeded what they consider "normal" (1-2 lbs per week). Woot woot! Anyway, I have yet to really buy anything new since losing all this weight. So I went to Old Navy and tried on several pairs of pants, all skinny jeans that were 3-4 sizes smaller then when I first started this process!!!!! I think the people around the changing room I was in were wondering what was going on with my squeals of delight! Did I mention they were skinny jeans? We are doing family pics on 11/24 and I'm excited about it!

    NSV for me!!

I'm having a really hard time seeing any difference in my body having lost 30 lbs. But I got to go home this last week and visit my family and my inlaws. Most I haven't seen since I had surgery and only my mom knows I had surgery. Everyone I saw kept saying "your face looks soo thin!" that made me so happy! My mother in law (who has no clue I had surgery) kept going on and on about how good I look and wanted to know what I'm doing different. I exercise six days a week and I'm eating a third of what I used to eat. Some day when I reach goal I'll tell her I had surgery but she's very overweight and VERY against weight loss surgery. So it was fun to have her notice and go on and on. It made me feel good. Anyway my very first NSV!

    Nsv For Me

That's a pretty great NSV! I can't wait for a day when my doc would say somethin' to me like that, lol. scales are all different. My home scale vs my doctors scale vs the one at the gym. My home scale is the one I go with, since I can use it more often (and do, sadly), I should just chuck that one and go with the one at the gym that does %'s too, lol. Congrats!

    NSV for Toenails

    What is NSV?
  9. I climbed a mountain. No seriously, I CLIMBED A MOUNTAIN! I stopped doing uphill hikes MANY years ago because my tachycardia was so bad it made me short of breath to the point I had to rest every 20 feet. Today? I hiked for 14.2 miles. I took the shorter but steeper path up, and the longer but less steep way down. I climbed 3989 ft. I reached the summit of our local mountain. It was amazing. And for most of the uphill, I was able to stop at normal people intervals. And only 4 people passed me (one at the beginning, one in the middle, and a couple at the end. I did stop more frequently when was getting closer to the summit, but I really don't think it was moreso than the average exhausted hiker. My HR WAS quite high during all the incline, but my breathing was still controlled. And this is WITHOUT my tachycardia medication which I had to stop several months ago because my BP was getting too low. Needless to say, this is a major victory.

    amusement parks post-op

One of the best NSV since surgery as being able to go to Six Flags and ride any coaster. I had not been able to go on 80% of the rides in the last 15 years because of the girth I was at. I love them just the same and they feel no different now.
  11. Good for you in making all of those positive life changes...you're very brave to do it all relatively at the same time and I admire your tinacity. I know it's hard, but you will only make it worse by worrying about how you're going to make it through. You've done great so far! You are now a non-smoker and before you know it, you will be a non-food addict! Don't worry about how you're going to do it...just take it one day, one hour, one minute and at times it might be one second at a time. Replace those urges to smoke or eat by sipping a cool glass of water, or writing a list of things you're looking forward to doing in the next 6 months to a year...anything to keep your hands and mind occupied. Start sewing...you'll need that skill when you start losing weight because shopping isn't going to be practical for a while for you. Meditate, go for walks, practice deep breathing and imagine helping your body to clear your lungs out from all of the old smoker's gunk. Get creative...just don't go back to any of your bad habits. The light is starting to shine at the end of the tunnel...just keep working your way there. We're waiting to hear your victory NSV's and other worthwhile accomplishments. Go you!

    100 + forum?

I just have to say that whey I need a little pick me up this is a great place to be. I don't really know where I want my weight to be but I know I have over 100 pounds to loss since I started @ 316.8. I have set my first goal at 180 don't know why just that it was a reachable number and under 200. So far in just over 4 months I have lost 60 pounds and this is the less I have weighed in years! I love that my clothes don't fit me anymore. I hate the idea of buying new thought. (Thats the give and take I guess) My wedding bands and mothers ring are almost too big for me. I flew for the first time in Sept since surgery and I didn't need a seat belt extender. I love thinking of NSV and this is the first time I have written them down somewhere. I guess there could be others but these are the ones that stick out in my mind. Hope everyone is doing great and hang in there Brenda you will be losing again before you know it. Plus when you figure out what you need to do you can post it here and when we get stuck we can look at your advice. Here is what helps me now.... I write down EVERYTHING that goes in my mouth along with the calories. This keep me @ 1000 - 1200 calories a day plus it lets me know when I can reward myself for going so good. I don't exercise like I should I do walk everyday 20 - 30 mins at a time everyday though..I figure that is better then nothing. If someone can tell me how to get going I have a Y membership that isn't used but they offer great classes I just always make excuses. Anyway the other thing I do is I drink ALL my Water. the whole 64 oz....if I don't I can tell it really slows me down. I can't wait to read more about everyone...lets keep this 100+ thread going!!!
  13. I am having to drop my daughter off at school this week. Normally, my husband does it because I have a 30 mile drive to work and he works in the town we live, therefore if I take her, we leave extra early! My daughter doesn't mind because usually I will get drive-thru Breakfast which is a rare treat for her. Anyway..she loves to eat a sausage patty sans the biscuit and a 1/2 of a hashbrown and a small sweet tea. (hence why it's considered a treat). Granted ..it smelled really, REALLY glorious, and deliciously breakfasty! She finishes her normal amounts, hops out the car, we say our goodbyes, have a good day, etc, & I drive away...my thoughts start to focus on that biscuit and 1/2 a hashbrown. Maybe a bite? My conscience screams loudly "NO NO NO..you haven't come this far to stop ..NO!". And you know what..I listened. So I drive the 30 miles smelling the food the whole way..never touching or thinking about it again until I get out of my car at work to throw the bag and all of its contents away. My sleeve is the tool that allowed me to learn self-control, something I was unable to learn until now. So ..what did I have for breakfast? Something pretty satisfying..see the below picture..and a self indulgent pat on the back!

The Best Decision We’ve EVER Made

@rs our kids still eat regularly but at least both of us are eating the same way. @Briswife15 Thanks! I’m very happy to have reached 49 but I can’t say I wasn’t a little salty when he hopped on the scale and had lost 68 but that’s always the case with men lol Because our weight loss will obviously slow soon, and it’s unpredictable when or how much, we’ve set all our month two goals as NSVs because I don’t want to set it on a weight loss speed that’s very unpredictable right now.

    NSV - 17.1 MPH for 26 miles

For those of you not following the biking banders thread. Ok, perfect day for a ride and a NSV, last year I struggled to maintain 15 MPH average for 10 miles and never made it, 14.9 was the closest I came. Since being banded in January I was able to break that goal early this year, and on today's ride I maintained 17.1 MPH average for 26.29 miles. Time: 1:32, avg. speed 17.1, distance 26.29, calories 1334

Buttom your lip and size 10s... that is another double NSV...lol... looking forward to the pics x
  20. Hotchocolate -- no you are not alone - EVERYONE has hit a stall -- I'm at stall #3 in 3 months - however, I've lost 43 lbs. so I'm not complaining - and I know the scale will start moving again (or I'll catch that little gremlin unawares and he wo't be able to keep his foot on the same number button) ... hang in there, you're doing great -- remember, it didn't come on overnight, it's not going to come off overnight either -- and take encouragement in the NSV (non-scale victories) like your pants and panties falling off -- however, please be at home when that happens okay?
  21. As I said in your other thread, I was also self-pay in the US and borrowed a ton of money from a loved one to do it (I was open to traveling to keep costs down, but the people in my life I rely on for support and advice were resistant. I DO NOT mean they are correct or that the way I did it is the better way. I just mean that in my case it was the simpler way to accomplish this part of my goal). In retrospect I would have borrowed twice as much...we borrow so much to buy houses, if we are able and if we choose to, or cars, or whatever...this is your body and your life, and I totally get funding it any way you can. There is a steep learning curve to every part of this-- to recovery, to living with the sleeve, to helping it help you best. I'm sticking to my surgeon's program but I still make mistakes -- but I keep telling myself there's no mistake I will make twice! Each one has consequences that are too memorable - and I don't mean in a way you should scrapbook - for you to risk repeating. I know I say it in every post but I am so glad I took this step. It is helping me approach so many areas of my life in a more positive and productive way, maybe because it all but forces you to put your healthy self first (or suffer soon after). You'll also find NSVs all over the place, not just the ones you're anticipating now. I could try to list them all but it would take forever
  22. Wonderful onederland! Congratulations on on your weight loss and even more so, your NSV's!
