    Stomach growling in hunger?

OMG, I posted the same thing last night! I also had my sleeve done on 1/24 and I am shocked to find that I am actually having hunger pangs and growling. I'm at the same stage...full liquid, but I can have cream soups, sugar free pudding, yogurt, protein shakes, etc. I have to thin the yogurt with some skim milk to tolerate it and even then it's not great. Today I am going to add some Isopure flavorless protein powder to pudding. I think if I can get more protein in, I might feel less hungry. I'm drinking Protein 2 0 water and protein shakes in addition to plain water. I'm sorry you're feeling hungry but I'm relieved to find that it's somewhat normal. Good luck!

1 year 5 months after Bypass

Wow this is so helpful. I am so scared about what to eat (my surgery will be in late June) and your post made me feel less stressed. I also love my Greek yogurt and knowing that has worked for you, made me feel a comfort level. I would hope I can so the same as you and continue to enjoy all kinds of food in smaller portions once I am on maintenance.

1 year 5 months after Bypass

I was also scared and looked up so many different websites of what not to eat etc. but I’m sooooo picky especially with textures of food. Trust me the tools it Greek 100 protein is the best!!!! They have so many flavors apple pie & stawberry cheesecake were my life savers when I am craving sweets! Lol I buy around 30 a week lol I eat regular food (small amount) then if my stomach feels a little crampy I’ll eat a yogurt afterwards it helps settle it down. Main this to remember is CHEW CHEW CHEw. Fir me I have found no way can I eat lettuce and all my bread has to be very very toasted or I feel it’s clogged! Very important YOU CAN EAT FRENCH FRIES (I eat maybe 6 or 7) or any type of potatoes cause I wasn’t and ended up in the hospital with potassium deficiency and that IV SUCKS!!!!! Burns sooooooooooo bad!!

    Beware The Coffee Creamer Pipeline

Pre weight loss surgery I drank the International Delight creamers, and went through a phase of using half and half. Then when I began my weight loss surgery journey 9 years ago, I swapped out those types of creamers for cashew milk and always sugar free sweeteners like Stevia. To me it was creamier than almond milk. Now that I'm 7 weeks post op revision, I've switched yet again. Now I make 4 oz of strong coffee with a full reusable Keurig pod and add it to a Fairlife protein shake. I make them both hot and iced. Then I add complimenting sugar free coffee syrups to that if I want. I can't recommend these syrups enough! https://www.skinnymixes.com/ (I also add these to Greek yogurt, SF tea, SF lemonade, and I've read that some people add them to oatmeal, but I've not tried that, I don't eat oats very often) I'm sure you could switch to half caffeine and half decaf for a while if you want to slowly eliminate the caffeine from your diet. If you truly enjoy the benefits from a warm beverage, maybe eventually you can go straight decaf and use a protein shake so that a warm cup of coffee is beneficial to your diet and you ensure you reach your daily protein goals. That's what I do. I have two cups a day one in the morning and one in the afternoon, so that's 60 grams of easy protein a day for me. Best wishes!

    Men Only

I'm still pretty new - my loverly band isn't even 2 weeks old yet, and I haven't had my 1st fill - so I don't have a lot to contribute at this point. I am trying to excercise - but I don't really like it. There are some things I truly enjoy doing, and I will eventually get my world situated so that I can do those things, but for now I do what I can. I walk some, dance some with my wife, and have re-started my attempts to build some ab muscles via crunches and the like. I am trying to contain my snacking - at the moment, I'm usually able to limit it to Protein drinks, yogurt/smoothies, and (when it's more 'munchy' than hunger) sugar free pudding. But again, I'm still on the post-surgery mushy phase of things... there's more than just my willpower keeping me in check.
  6. I'm just over one week post-op. And my surgeon here in sweden (and the nutritionist) gave me a suggested meal plan throughout. And the caloric total is somewhere around 1200 (during liquid stage), and needing like 78 g of protein. I have to eat 9 meals a day (every 2 hrs). I need 5 dl (approx 2 cups) of dairy each day as well. My first day home after leaving the hospital when I followed the plan eating all that yogurt and milk and stuff, my calories were near 1200 and my protein near 100g. I was shocked! I was convinced I was eating too many calories. Over the last week I have lost 12 lbs, and I'm eating between 800-1200 per day depending on good I am at getting in the full 9 meals. Oh and he is intending to refill my band every other month (starting 2 months after surgery) and going on like this until the 1 year mark. He is hoping for me to lose 1-2 lbs a week once I move to solids.

Hello Ohio, let's get this started

Hey Everyone: Sorry I've been out of commission. Had some surgical complications and in the hospital the past few days here in Columbus (wish so much I could have made them transfer me or something down to Dr. Sch). Things are better and I'm on the soft food phase. AnnieM and Nurse T: Thanks for the Protein drink suggestions. I'm now on eggs and yogurts so I should be able to avoid the supplements. I like the regular supplements (higher sugars) and my dietician said I can have them since I'm taking in such little nutrition right now. Barbara: So sorry about the heart fiasco. I'm so glad everything is okay. I would love to meet on Monday. How about 12:45p at a restaurant of your choosing near Dr. Sch's office? I have to leave Dayton no later than 2:45 for a 4p appt in Columbus. I'm really glad you chose to check things out with your heart. Email me: mindfulpea@yahoo.com Lisann: Glad you are getting back on track with the grazing. I'm still on such little intake that grazing is a good thing for me just to get some calories in. But, if you want to personally email me for accountability, please feel free (i.e. the number of times one day versus another) and I'll give you lots of encouragement (see above email). How did the tile job end? Impersons: I just want to keep encouraging you. Hey, look - the month is already half over! I'll be thinking of you as Feb arrives! DiscoDiva: Welcome to Ohio. I absolutely love Dr. S. He did steri-strips on me with internal (dissolve-type) sutures, not staples. For the band, I've not heard of anyone who uses staples because the incisions are so small. Oh Rain Tree - Where are you? We miss you! I'll probably be coming to the support group next month. I'm still trying to find one that is for band patients only. I'm a little frustrated that "we" get lumped into one group when the struggles and diets are radically different. I am just not sure I want to drive all the way to Dayton for a mixed group. There is a group here in Columbus that focuses on the emotions around eating that is free, sponsored thru the Center for Eating Disorders that I've been going to and I like it so far. Maybe as soon as my schedule settles, I'll start one for band only, one where you can come from any practice. Cincy Weight Loss has one but they won't allow people they didn't cut in - Okay, well talk later! Paige
  8. What are your carbs in relation to the calories? I'm starting to believe that some of us are very carb sensitive and even with LapBand will have to stay on a healthy LowCal/LowCarb diet for the rest of our lives. You may want to try different food choices and keep the carb intake to 30 grams a day. What you eat needs to stay in the single digits for carbs. George Stella - Stella Style Community "1 cup of food per meal and that does fill me up, but then I'm hungry (drooling) 1 hour later." The low-carbers would say that your carb intake is waaaay too high and that's why you are hungry an hour later. There are lots of low-carb fruits and veggies but banana's are high, milk is somewhat high. The yogurt is high unless it's a low-carb yogurt. I've been addicted to carbs for many years and I think I've just worn out my body with them. I've got to shock my system into not having carbs - like detox. I was just banded on 1/16/08 and I'm reading low-carb books while I'm laying around recovering. Doing fairly well but right now I feel like I have a cement block in the upper part of my stomach, sure hope that "big knot" feeling goes away? it goes away right?
  9. Triplets!! My surgery is 9/19 too, and today is day one of the pre-op diet. I can have liquids including yogurt, Jello, cream Soups and pudding. Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App
  10. Hi Janie, I hope the pain is improving. I have been really lucky and really have have had only mild discomfort and no gas pain. I am struggling to eat and drink but then my regime seems much faster than all yours. I started on Weetabix and yogurt which I can't cope with now. At least the fluids are going much better today and I have abandoned foods so far today. We are also looking at recipes, it is so good to hear new ideas, so please do share them when you are ready. Take care and hope the pain eases Claire
  11. How do I know if I am at my sweet spot or too tight? Some days I can eat normally (approx. 1/2 cup of whatever) and some days I cannot choke down a thing. More often than not I try to eat and I just can't do it. I try to eat the small Dannon yogurts and can only get down about 1/2 of the container. I'm finding myself using the Protein drinks more and more. I am definitely getting full faster when I do eat and am not feeling hungry at all. I am basically having to force food in which I think is making it harder to swallow past the restriction. I just don't know if I should stick with what I have or go for a little unfill.
  12. Well, it's two days after my surgery. I feel better today than I did yesterday that's for sure. The gas pain was the worst yesterday I think. Not so bad today. I have one dose of my pain killer (lortab) left and I don't think I will take it anymore after its gone. The heating pad has been an awesome thing to have. Haven't really had much desire to "eat" anything, I have only had two small shakes and a half cup of yogurt since surgery. I almost wanted to gag trying to eat the yogurt, but I am trying to keep up the Protein. I have been doing some light chores around the house, and went to the store and walked around a bit, trying to be up and moving to get rid of this gas pain which I think is the worst part so far. I am able to remove the dressings today for a shower! Pretty excited about that. Haven't really been nauseous thankfully. Just gassy sore and the port incision is pretty tender. I'm sure tomorrow will be even better yet! I am a side sleeper, so sleeping on my back hasn't been real fun, but I'm hoping to be able to get back to normal there in a couple weeks. Husband has been SUPER AWESOME and I am blessed to have him to help. If anybody wants to keep in touch e-mail wise or anything I would be more than happy! Blessings to all!
  13. Honk, you should discover stevia! I'm trying to avoid artificial sweeteners as much as possible but stevia is natural (from a plant) and you can buy it in individual packets to add to coffee, yogurt etc.
  14. Focus on healing right now, not weight loss -- don't beat yourself up over bad choices, just resolve to make better ones tomorrow. Healing now and setting the right patterns will help you in the coming months with weight loss. Don't try to test your band or push it to see what you CAN eat, try to eat only what you need to. If you are eating because you are HUNGY then eat protein --shakes, cottage cheese, yogurt if allowed. If you eat the softest and highest protein foods you can find, you will be doing your band good AND your body & hopefully mind will be more sated with the higher protein. My Dr allowed such things during liquid phase -- check with yours. I am sure your band is fine for now, but let your body heal and let everything settle in. Now is not a time to be pushing the limits.....you got the surgery because you wanted to change your old habits, right? Let the band help you do just that.

Dr. said I need to diet

I hear what you are saying! I was banded at Christmas, and have lost some but have reached a point where I will lose 3 pounds to regain it. I am always hungry. I have no restriction and I have had 2 fills in a 4cc. band. I realize I have to change my eating habits and have made huge strides in the right direction. But still have been disapointed that the band is not helping me at all as of yet. I have lost weight but basically it was what I lost the first month on liquids and has been sheer hard work to keep it off---no I am not eating fast food like I did before, no chips, no pop, no I am not stuffing my face on icecream and Cookies, or bread.....all these habits I gave up, however, I eat salads, veggies, yogurt, meat and have healthy meals and still I am at a stand still.... it is very frustrating. I guess we just have to hang in there until we finally get restriction and the band can start helping us out. It is easy to get overwhelmed with it all....seems I am more obsessed with dieting now then I used to be but I just do not want to go backwards. Hang in there!

    I'm Lost!

Here is what I eat (mostly), I looked into the Lindora but it seemed like a diet, I think I needed a different way to eat so I didn't do it, now if I could just get them to stop emailing me! Breakfast is usually 1 of 3 things. 1) 1 egg and 1 piece of bacon 2) EAS low carb Protein Shake 3) Jachut's Green smoothie (1 cup Water, 1 cup fresh spinach, 1/2 banana, 1/2 apple, 1 scoop unjury unflavored Protein Powder pureed in blender) Snack, If I am hungry I have either 1) 1 cheese stick string cheese 2) Laughing cow light cheese wedge with 6 crackers 3) Greek yogurt 4) EAS shake lunch 1) A piece of fish (4 Oz by weight) 2) Leftover meat from the night before, (2 Oz if beef) 3) If I am busy at work, Starkist Lunch to go or a can of sardines with 6 crackers. I add a veggie to one of the meats above either leftovers from the night before or canned that I can heat up easily at work. Afternoon Snack I choose 1 from the snack list above dinner (usually cooked on the grill) 1) Beef 2 Oz 2) chicken 4 Oz 3) Fish 4 Oz 4) Pork 2 Oz I measure my meat by weight and my veggies by measure cup. We cut up fresh veggies and put them on the grill too. I make sweet potato's in the microwave and eat 1/2 of it with butter. I usually have 1/2 cup veggies and 1/2 cup carb.

    Food Glorious Food

Eight more days until mushies for me! I'm already composing the sonnet in my head over my first bite of...well, anything really. I'm doing remarkably fine on liquids but I won't lie, the sound of grits, cottage cheese, yogurt, mashed potatoes - it all sounds so wonderful! I kinda love that I'm "detoxing" my body from food in a way, and then slowly reintroducing the things that I love that are healthy. I just feel like I'll be able to appreciate the little things that much more, rather than just eating quickly and in the biggest portions possible.

    Lets talk Sliders!

Cheese whiz... Yogurt... Ice cream... Chocolate... Protein shakes...
  21. When I introduced real food back into my diet, I had a few staples that really worked well. Just remember to chew thouroughly! 1 - Grilled or blacked chicken or salmon salads with lots of veggies, dressing on the side 2 - Any light, flakey fish..grilled 3 - Baked potatoes with cottage cheese 4 - Greek yogurt with sliced banana 5 - Hummus with veggies on the side 6 - Tuna salad, egg salad served on cucumber slices 7 - Cottage cheese pancakes 8 - Guacamole with veggies to dip 9 - Soy crisps, cheese crisps All make yourself to control the amount of fat and Protein. If you are dining out, you can find most of these meals, just adapt the order as much as possible, and plan on bringing AT LEAST half the portion home.
  22. I just found out today that my surgeon put 2.2 cc's in my band with a Max fill of 4 cc's. Im only a week out but feel A LOT restriction. I don't think that I will need a fill for quite some time. I finally had a yogurt for the first time tonight, and after 4 oz I was very full.

First day on soft solids Not Good

And I would think that broccolli would also be a bit difficult on the stomach at this stage. It took me a while to eat many different veggies. Yogurt, cottage cheese, that sort of thing are perfect for now. In fact, you should try the ricotta bake! I got the recipe on this web site but don't remember who exactly. Baked Ricotta with Marinara This is the one that everyone RAVES about! 8 oz of ricotta cheese ½ cup grated Parmesan 1 large egg, beaten 1 teaspoon Italian seasoning Salt & pepper to taste ½ cup marinara sauce ½ cup shredded mozzarella cheese Mix ricotta cheese, parmesan, beaten egg, seasonings together and place in a oven proof dish. Pour marinara on top and top with mozzarella cheese. Bake it in the oven @ 450 for about 20-25 minutes (best) or nuke it till hot and bubbly.
  24. EDIT - The subject should read 12 g Protein NOT 20 g protein...so so very sorry!!! I had to share my new discovery... Kroger Carbmaster yogurt, full 8 oz cup.... 80 calories, 4 carbs & 1 Fiber (so 3 NET CARBS!!) and 12 grams of protein...and it only cost 40 CENTS. And it's NOT CHALKY or gritty like Greek Yogurt can be, smooth and creamy and less calories and carbs than greek yogurt. It's delicious, I'm eating the cherry flavor right now. It's Kroger brand and I got it at Smith's but Fred Meyer carries Kroger brand too. I love yogurt for Breakfast and now I can have my yogurt and eat it too
  25. Thanks for sharing that! I'll have to check it out. Also, the tip of putting protein powder in the yogurt is another good idea.
