    Any 50yo or older?

I'm 61 going on 62 soon. I don't have a lot of sagging. I think it's because I'm loosing very slowly, I go to the gym and do weights for an hour 2-3 times a week and ride my bike. Maybe that has helped me. I'm sure it will come eventually. 😉

    Any 50yo or older?

I’m one week post op and I’m 59. Does that mean that I’ll get saggy?

    Considering another surgery

The side effect of my medication is weight gain; for example my younger brother at one time took this same medication and gained over 60 pounds in 3 years (prior to that he was always skinny). I have def noticed an increased appetite with it. I have never eaten to feel "full" or uncomfortable since surgery, I have always been good about stopping and eating small portions at a time (half plate of food). However, I think my main issue is feeling hungry again soon after eating and then snacking. The only thing I can think to do is to measure every single thing I eat for a period of time and see if that helps, and to cut out snacking completely. My diet is average at best. I still make sure to get 60-80 grams of protein a day, and enjoy lots of veg and some fruits, however I do not stick to low carb or low fat options all the time--this may be another issue.
  4. I did not do insurance. I paid for my surgery out of pocket but after i got done with all the required testing. Surgery was literally 3 weeks later.
  5. Hi, I am a newbie, I found the forums looking for information about caffeine and other substances to avoid before surgery and I felt instantly I got to the right place. My surgery is in 2 weeks 9th February. Any suggestions would be welcome? Also I would like to update my surgery profile but I cannot find how to do it. Thanks.

    January 2023

I had my VSG surgery on 01/06/23. I stood 1 night at the hospital. Gas pains were awful the first 3-4 days but then subsided. Almost 3 weeks later, and I feel great (no pain or discomfort!). My only complaint is that I tire easily. I've lost 30 lbs and am on soft foods. I do get hunger pains... like real hunger, not head hunger. I thought we didn't get that for a few months but I've been pushing through. Drinking my fluids and TRYING to get my protein in.

    Cooking for your family

I don't think I did much of anything the first 6 weeks, but I ate the protein and veggie my spouse ate (usually restaurant take out) except I had a much smaller portion and it was pureed. Everyone else were asked to stay away during this period to allow me to rest and heal. After that I resumed family cooking which consisted of me, my spouse, my mom, and any grown kids that showed up to eat which was frequent. I was a plan nazi for the first 18 or so months which means I followed my plan to a tee. I never cooked two meals. I ate the same protein and same vegetable as I prepared for everyone. I abstained from anything else such as pasta or other side dishes and deserts (which we rarely did anyhow). After the 18 or so months nothing really changed except my plan had become my new normal so I didn't even have to think about food choices or volume, it all just happened. Except on occasion I took a bite of the pasta or side dishes if I did particularly well. Nothing much has changed over the remaining 18 or so years, except it's down to me and my spouse, everyone else has either moved away or moved on. My plan is still the same, our routine is still the same. Good luck, Tek

    Cooking for your family

I'm about 16 months out and I never make 2 meals. That wasn't the case when I was immediately post-op and could only eat mush, of course, but after about 8 weeks when I had been cleared for a "normal" diet, things were pretty status quo. If I make pasta, I use Banza and then serve myself more meat/sauce/veggies and very little pasta (if any at all). If I make burgers, I eat them on lettuce. If I make a casserole, I might eat it as-is, depending on what's in it, or I might just pull out a scoop of the meat/veggies and forgo the carb addition. If I make a pot roast, I might have a portion of the meat and a small salad and skip the potatoes. All in all, its pretty normal for us. I adjust for myself as needed, but its very minimal. Only you can decide what the right approach is for your family. But if they currently live off of nachos and ice cream, something will absolutely have to change for you to be successful. And if you are the primary cook for the family, it may fall to you to make those changes. Or, you'll be faced with making 2 meals, which is really impractical (and may very well lead to resentment).
  11. I had a desk job (retired now) and took three weeks off. If necessary, I could have gone back after two - but I appreciated that third week to sleep and get used to the food progression.

    Revision

I don't understand why you are devastated when you lost 25 lbs in 6 weeks, especially at a lower weight start than most. That's a great start, even faster than some who had a virgin rny. Too high expectations can and will defeat all your hard work if it gets to you. Perhaps seek therapy if you truly feel "devastated". I know depression can sometimes occur after WLS. I had a revision just to get rid of the gerd. Even if I never lost a pound, to end the horrible acid reflux and sleepless nights are 100% worth it to me.
  13. Seen Dr and dietician for 3 month post op today. Dr said 800-1000, 1/2 cup meals could be lifetime. Some advance to 1 cup by 1 year.
  14. I take 100mg of Trazadone about 2 times a week for insomnia. No issues.

    WEIGHT LIFTING 💪🏼

    I'm starting now at 3 months post-op.
  16. Ditto above. I took oxygen and muscle cramp meds every 4 hours for 4 days. Day 4 I didn't need anything ...and nothing from that point. Had an issue in bumping my belly, invision locations, against table for next few weeks. Lol. Fairly mild gas pains. Easy peezy. Patience.
  17. I have a desk job and I work from home. I took 3 weeks off, but I wish I would have taken longer. I had (still have) quite a bit of diaphragm pain and discomfort. It was a couple of months before I could comfortably sit up straight for any length of time. But, I'm diabetic and a slow healer. All the nerves and muscles are just taking their sweet time to heal. I also have a small hiatal hernia that they didn't see during my EGD or surgery - so this seems to be a new development. I think that may be causing my pain, but I'm not sure.
  18. I had surgery before 1pm, and my surgeon was done within 40 min or so. After the surgery they take you to recovery. I may have been opening and closing my eyes before but when I was finally able to speak it was 2:30 according to the clock on the wall, my first question was if it was done because all I remember was being told to move to a table and waking up lol and they will ask you how are you doing, I was nauseous so they provided me with Zofran. She then told me we were waiting for my room. A few minutes later I was being dragged, which was closer to 3:30pm. I was in and out of sleep for the next 3 hours. Nurses will come in and provide medicine, do labs, vitals etc and you have the compression things on your legs. By 6 I was able to go to the bathroom and grab my phone. My nurse reminded me about the walking so off I went for 15min the first time, then 30 min and so on. You will barely sleep on your stay, they are checking on you constantly, so I just went to walk every time they came into the room since I couldn't remove the compression things by myself. Honestly, overall, it was easy. We tend to overthink it and over prepare for it, but there is not much you need, you are out within 24hrs and any pain is well controlled with the nurses. I was able to shower the next day, go to pharmacy for my prescriptions and I went to have surgery by myself in a different town and took a flight back home 48hrs later. Good luck to both of you.

    5 weeks post op

the two week thing is the infamous "three week stall". Almost everyone experiences it. Here are the 17,501 posts on it on this site (and no, I am NOT kidding): https://www.bariatricpal.com/search/?q=three week stall weird color poop isn't uncommon the first month or two after surgery. I think paleness usually indicates fat malabsorption, which isn't a huge surprise. I think mine was normal colored after about the first month. as for the pain thing, I'd run that by your clinic. I'm not sure what that is- could be a lot of things, I think. They might want to do a scope or something to see what's going on.
  20. Friday is almost here!!! Ekkk Im both excited and nervous, tell me please what time did you have to report in and what time did your surgery get schedule for?

    When does it get better?

Hi and thank you for the reply. My team just brushes me off and tells me to go to the emergency room if I think I need to be seen or get fluids. I went on 1/4 and it was an 8 hour wait… When I was about 10 weeks post op I could do Fairlife milk and yougurt for several weeks. Then all of a sudden I would get sick after eating or drinking anything dairy. I tried the Fairlife milk a few weeks ago and with just 1/4 cup dumped. I will try normal 2 percent milk today. It’s just super hard when I take one bite of something or one drink and a minute later feel like I’m dumping.

    Psych Eval Format

My surgeons office refused to let me find my own for the eval. They gave me a list of approved ones that i can choose from. it was a 2 visit deal 1st visit was online on zoom where she discussed the surgery and asked about my eating habits and daily life. Then a week later i had to go in and take a 600-700 question test on a computer. Most of those questions were the same but worded different.

    Coming off caffeine/coffee

I'm cutting down less and less caffeine every week. I don't want the caffeine withdraw headaches if I go cold turkey at the time of surgery. I do green tea during the week and one cup of my favorite coffee on weekends.

    FINALLY had my scope done

On the struggle bus today. Was doing fine, having my breakfast (protein shake) and 2/3 of the way through, I was hit with EXCRUTIATING pain, pressure, and burning. Lasted about 30 minutes. I dumped the rest of my shake and had to just ride it out. It finally stopped, but omg it hurt. This is the 4th time this has happened in the last 3 months. This is originally what caused me to go to the GI specialist to begin with, and it seems like it's happening more often since the scope and biopsies on Thursday. I had it the first time 3 months ago, the 2nd time a month later, the 3rd time this past Saturday, and the 4th time today. I just want the results of the biopsies to come in so I can know what the hell is going on and what we're gonna do to fix it. This waiting is bulls**t. I doubt the keloids have much to do with this, but I think the gastric tumor and the ton of polyps are the issue. Just need to know if the tumor is cancer and what I can do about it. Something's gotta give. I'm tired of this.
