1. Hey everyone, I have a quick question. ...what were your doctors orders as far as diet after surgery? I had my surgery on 6/13, was put on clear liquids from day 1-10, soft foods such as yogurt, pudding and cream of soups day 10-20, then mashed up baby like food from day 20-30.
2. I get the headaches - it usualy means (FOR ME) that i am done eating... Ive noticed that regardless if i eat slow or a lil faster, i still get them. My dr said everyones body tells them differently when ur full, so i assume this is mine - its not a major headache, almost like the onset of one - once i stop eating, im OK, it goes away after 5 min or 10. good luck

Scars after surgery

Just over 10 months out and I have a tiny scar where my drain tube was that is no longer visible. A tiny scar in the center of my chest (1/2 inch) that is barely visible. I have a scar about 1 inch long just over my belly button and another 1 incher to the left of my belly button. The 1 inchers you can see... but not bad at all. Really... my boyfriend has never even noticed. I'm sure its different for everybody... but its pretty minimal for me.
4. I don't know which band you have, but I was an outlier, in that I needed more than my band "max" fill level to keep good and sustained restriction. I have a 9 cc Realize Band, and it wasn't until my fill level was past 10 cc that I finally had perfect "for me" restriction. My doctor checked the pressure my band was under, and while the pressure is on the high side of normal, it's still in the normal range. He said he had a few other patients who needed my level of fill before they had restriction. My last fill was several months ago, and while I can tell I've lost a little of the restriction that I had, it's a very small change. My band is not so tight that I can eat normal foods and lots of foods bandsters sometimes have trouble with such as steak and soft yeasty bread. I also have never had reflux of any kind, and I've only slimed a handful of times...all related to user error. I'm definitely not too tight. I don't know what you can do with this information, but your doctor is not working with you on this and it's not your fault or your weakness that you don't have restriction yet. Is there anyway you can change doctors? I wouldn't know how to go about doing that other than to start making phone calls explaining the situation. Also, there's FillCentersUSA who will do for band patients. You'd have to check their web site to see if there's one reasonably close to you. I'm sorry your doctor has taken this hard stand about your fills.
5. I had my surgery on 8/28/06. I know that I don’t and won’t have any restriction until my first fill. But right now I am eating just as I normally would pre-surgery, which is NOT healthy eating at ALL. And Ive gained back the 10 lbs I lost in the liquid phase. I’ve had no vomiting or uncomfortable feelings at all. (Which I kind of wish I had so that I could stop eating) How much of a difference does a filled band make verses an unfilled band? I understand that its not a cake walk but it has to be easier than this or I would have just dieted without the band to lose weight. It certainly would have been cheaper. I’m really starting to wonder if they even put a band in there, lol. I am really disappointed in myself but am mainly curious to know if this eating like this now could cause some type of problem when I actually get the fill. Am I setting myself up for failure? <?xml:namespace prefix = o ns = "urn:schemas-microsoft-com:office:office" /> I guess what I am really asking is, how many of you pigged out when you found that solid foods were okay? And was it easier when your band was filled? Am I abnormal? I’m really depressed about this, no more’Yay, happy I’m going to lose weight’ feeling. HHHEEELLPPP

Weight Loss

I will be having the bypass on 6/19/2018 and was just curious on how much others had lost or is losing monthly? Thanks and Happy Losing!!

Weight Loss

I had bypass 8 months ago. I lost 100lbs so far. My first month I lost over 30lbs. Second month 20lbs and third month I started averaging about 15lbs per month- but then after 5-6months it seems to keep slowing down at about 7-10 per month. I started at 250- and now I’m at 148... so I only need to lose about 20lbs more or less- and perhaps that’s why it’s slowed down. I also don’t get in enough nutrients as I have a stricture and can’t digest most real food. Animal meats and products and most anything really.. so.. yeah. But my body did let go faster than a lot that I’ve spoke too, and I haven’t truly plateaued ... I feel lucky. It’s a very rough long road.

Need to get back on track

I was unfilled from being too tight and also needing a hernia repair. I'm about 10 days out from the hernia repair, and will start getting refilled soon. Just have to get my head right, and make it a way of life, not a diet. You can do it! I'm glad you're going to the surgery, and just to reiterate, it's never too late to restart, that's what is so great about lapband!
9. I've been diagnosed with a pretty bad sinus infection and have to travel tomorrow on business . I warned my PCP about my sleeve and said that, no, I absolutely did not want to take Augmentin 875 twice a day for 10 days. (I could barely tolerate it when I had an intact stomach. ) She prescribed levofloxacin 500 mg/10 days. I've never taken that before and am somewhat nervous about the side effects, especially when flying . Does anyone have experience with this drug, and/or which antibiotics have worked well for you post-sleeve?
10. YOU ARE COMPLETLY RIGHT! Often times weight is more than just calories. I remember wishing to be fat in the begining of my marrage because I didnt trust myself to be faithful. So I wanted to be undesirable. Well, At 275#'s I some how recalled that moment so many years ago and now in the midst of a strong marrage which is now 10 years old I am no longer unsecure with my faithfullness. and the weight is no longer needed. With the lapband I am reclaiming control over the habits I have created for protection and stepping into a brighter future. Like you I have no help from inurance. I found an wonderful DR. in TJ and have not looked back. If you would like me to introduce you let me know. Being self pay is hard but it doesnt have to break the bank! email me

I Was Good Until The Vitamins

Condessa, I wouldn't worry too much about the supplements at this point. In a couple of weeks you will be able to do better. I have never taken Iron, which is very hard on your stomach and causes a lot of constipation. That would be the last thing I took as a supplement and then only if you were testing anemic. I started with liquid and under-the-tongue Vitamins. Now I take 11 pills in the morning and four at night in one swallow. It will all come together. Right now, concentrate on your Protein and Water and everything else will follow. I am a year out now. Since about 2-3 months out, I have been taking a Multivitamin, calcium + vit D twice a day, B complex, Biotin, Vitamin D liquid every other day, krill oil, and omega-3 fish oil. My lab work has always been perfect. My hair started falling out about 4-5 months out and then started coming back in about 9-10 months out. If your hair is going to fall out, it will fall out. It is not permanent and doesn't happen to everyone. My daughter didn't lose a single extra hair after her sleeve, but I thinned out some. Try not to obsess over everything. It will just make you miserable needlessly. Good luck, Kathe

6month requirement. Gaining more than losing.

I have a thyroid issue and ended up gaining 19 pounds in the 6 months. Granted my Tsh was up to 43 (normal is 2) and I had a letter from my PCP stating that the thyroid at that level makes it impossible to lose. I was approved with no issue. I was scared to death of denial. Take it from me, a true worrier, not doing the work in these last few months is not worth the anxiety about getting approved. And of course it won be worth getting denied. GET IT TOGETHER, GIRL! You can do this!!!

2/25/09 Smoke and Mirrors

I’m always amazed by what I start off thinking I’m going to write and then what I end up writing about here. It’s the thing I like best about blogging…not only do you get your feelings/questions out, but it’s often a total surprise. Today was no exception. I started off wanting to explore something that came up in my last blog…the fact that at the same time I hate to look at my current self in the mirror, I don’t feel fat…in my head…and how could I still be constantly surprised by photos of me? ‘Nuff said about that!!! As I went looking for a photo of a fun house mirror (to illustrate my body dysmorphic disorder...or maybe it’s just my split personalities) I found this out: DRESSING ROOMS AROUND THE COUNTRY HAVE ‘SKINNY’ MIRRORS!!! Oh yes!! They’re scamming us!!! I finally am having a good day clothes shopping! I look like a size 16 in my size 22 jeans at the store, so as I’m skipping happily around the dressing room I decide to buy 3 pair, and come home to find my size 22 butt looks like an elephant wearing dolls clothes. Here’s how they do it…tip a mirror forward and you look short and fat, tip it backward (even slightly) and you look taller and thinner. And to make it worse, some stores even use slightly curved mirrors…oh yea, just like the FUN HOUSE ones! It’s all an illusion…it’s a house of mirrors!! Is it illegal…no…they make no promises that you’ll look the same at home as you do in their dressing room. I’m sure I’m the last one on Earth to find this out. As I found article upon article upon this I was finding an increased hatred of dressing rooms. Remember my ‘love’ of dressing rooms anyway (one word…sportsbra…or maybe that’s two words); then I also found the results of a study on women and dressing rooms: 64 percent said trying on clothes in public lowers their self confidence 10 percent have cried in dressing rooms about the way they look 40 percent of the women have bought something that was too small, hoping it would look good once they lost weight 14 percent of the women have refused sales help so they wouldn't have to reveal their size 41 percent have started working out after a shopping trip and the best one of all… 15 percent have accidentally ripped or gotten stuck in a garment that was too small I’m just glad I’m not alone…and I’m staying OUT of dressing rooms for awhile…at least until I KNOW I’m skinnier…I have enough body distortion issues.

Last supper in Tijuana

I was banded by Ortiz in March of last yr and I went to a nice Mexican place across the street from the pharmacy (farmacia) which is directly across the street from the Lucerna. There is also a pizza Hut right next to the Hotel too. What we did is go to the Revolucion area (cab is like $2) and there is alot of yummy restaurants. We had some drinks and chips at another mexican restaurant on the strip ( I know, I ate ALOT before my surgery but I was starving...LOL :welldoneclap: ) Good luck to you!! ~Liz~ 03/10/06 241/155/160 5'8''

18. I have had the stomach flu with severe diahrea for the past 4 days. The rest of my family had it for only a day. I have been in severe pain and have never had stomach flu like this. I have been drinking Water pretty well, at least 60 ozs a day, but not eating. I worry about electrolytes as I feel so weak and tired and I get dizzy when up and around too long. Has anyone else had the flu and was it worse since your surgery? I had surgery 9/30/14. I have lost 10 pounds in the past 4 days. Any advice on how to get more electrolytes?

Just a quick note in my journal before I hit the hay. I have been a very bad person lately with regards to my eating habits. I have eaten all the wrong foods. Since I am disbanded I can eat ANYTHING I want now. And man am I testing that theory. Travelling doesn't help that much. I was in Tucson for about 10 days for a bead show. THen was home for all of 3 days then headed to Nashville, TN / Princeton, KY to visit family. I have been eating fast food and junk mostly on this trip. I am heading home on Thursday the 23rd. Hopefully once I get home I can get back on track with the diet and exercise and set up a routine. I am still waiting to hear back from Biggest Loser. I think if I don't hear from them by the end of the month then I didn't get picked. Oh well at least I tried. I am planning on working out the Jewelry Party protocol when I get home. I wanna start making some money with this biz I started. PeMerri Designs is a baby right now but something I am pretty proud of so far. www.pemerridesigns.com will begin to grow soon and who knows I might need some assistants. LOL!! It could happen. I have to research some good marketing strategies. Enough for tonight!
20. My doctors plan had me on full liquid the first 7 days and on day 8 I moved onto pureed. I'm on day 10 and I'm eating scrambled eggs, pureed turkey chili...anything allowed in the pureed stage. I've had no problems whatsoever starting pureed early. In fact, I've made my protein total the past 2 days through food, but I add a protein shake to put myself over 80g of protein. I've lost 12 pounds since my surgery and I feel frickin' fantastic.
21. I had surgery on 9/19. I've lost about 30 lbs... But the last 3 weeks I have went up and down 2-3 lbs, not really losing any. I tried drinking more Water, adding more Protein and nothing seems to be working. I am so discouraged! I hate to have done this for nothing. Could something be messed up? Sent from my 5054N using the BariatricPal App
22. I'm presurgery as well, and I have been trying to chew each bite 30 times, like I saw on a lapband website somewhere, and I can hardly make it past 10! lol I try to do a little "practice" at every meal so that it wont be as big a shock after the surgery. I don't know if this will help me, but since I have to COMPLETELY change my eating habits forever, I want to try to get used to some of the smaller changes now, if that makes any sense. I also notice that I really do wash down huge bites of food with beverages at meals. I can see how eating meals without any liquid would make eating slower a must! I need to try practicing this also, but I am drinking tons of carbonated beverages right now to get them out of my system.... I will miss sparkling water! I am so inspired to read posts by those of you that have successfully made these changes in your lives.... thank you! :-) Jen

Are there any Smashing Pumpkins Oct 08?

Wow you both have done FANTASTIC! As of today I'm down 103 lbs! I know I could have done better...but I've fought a lot of emotional eating to get these 103 lbs down! I think I'm up to 6.3 cc's in a 10 cc band. I'm suppose to go back Sept 1 to get a fill...but not sure I need one. I'm at the point where I've only been getting .3 cc's when I go...hate having to pay all that money just for that much...and I wonder how the heck can that much really make a difference but it does! I want to weigh 180...i'm at 238 this morning from 341...So I've got about 58 more lbs to goal! I already have a lot of loose skin ESPECIALLY at my belly...so I will definitely be having weight loss surgery. I just worry about the SCARRING!! How are yours healing? It is so nice to touch base with you and see that comparable that we've done fabulous! Keep it up Smashing Pumpkins!!
