    Ahh help!

So my surgery was due on 12th of June, got a call Friday to tell me that it was being postponed AGAIN! Because I needed a psychiatric assessment! So over the weekend I have been eating like a woman possessed, I thought im not getting my surgery for another few weeks I can have my food freedom again for a while, so this morning I get a call from the nurse saying the psychiatric assessment is no longer needed and the surgery is still going ahead on the 12th! Prior to my phone call on Friday I had been doing the post op diet for 8 days, My question is, would I have done much damage to my liver shrinkage over my weekend foodathon, which didn't include alcohol and only 1 pudding, And if I do the liquid diet till Friday do u think that will be enough for me to possibly shrink my liver a bit more for the op? Thanks
  2. I am doing a two week liquid diet pre-op adnd have just finished my first week. I have no real weight loss to show for it. I have been drinking four shakes a day and eating carrots the rest of the time. How much weight did you lose during your pre-op diet? And is it ok not lose anything during the pre-op diet?
  3. Hello. I know there are other threads discussing this topic, but of all that I have read, none apply to my specific concerns. I have 5 children, three of whom are teenage girls. I am considering not telling them for multiple reasons. First, I don't plan on telling family or friends such as parents and grandparents. To tell them and not expect them to "accidentally" bring it up in front of family members could put them (and me) in an awkward position. Then, the most important concern, is body image. I know all the rules, I even follow many of them. I have taught them to understand that they eat to fuel their bodies and that the goal is to be healthy, not seek to obtain the media's idea of "perfect". Because of my own struggles with weight, this has always been of foremost importance to me. I worry about the message I will be sending to my impressionable 17, 16, and 14 year old girls. They do not understand the struggle, they are healthy and young and hopefully have many of the tools they will need to live the rest of their lives that way (my goal anyway). I have a different perspective and story. Of course hiding anything from teenagers is another task all together. So my question is, what are your thoughts on not telling teenage daughters?

    Take those pills!

I have been told to crush all my meds or get soluble equivalents for the first 6 weeks after my op. Have been crushing them and taking in Water but they taste revolting. Will be glad when I can go back to taking them whole.

    Last 10 Lbs!

Wow! What a success story you are. Congratulations! Maybe you could do a week of the pre-op clear liquid diet that jump starts so many of us before surgery...
  7. Has anyone felt like they hate eating after surgery? I am 13 weeks tomarrow and I feel so weak and worn out. I am losing weight very rapidly and feel so weak. Anyone else feel or felt this way. I am going in Thursday to get my tests done so hopefully if something is off he can give me something to help. I will take any advice at all
  8. I had paid near my port (left side) for several weeks. If it is really bothering you, do not hesitate to call your doctor.

    Need to increase calorie intake?!

miangr per your profile - i see you were sleeved June18th your starting weight was 312 you have successfully lost 41 lbs!!!! bringing you to the magic # of 271!!!!! WooHoo WooHoo!!!! party dance party dance Protein bars are yummy, they can have alot of calories, and carbs too on an occassion, having one is terrifice - terrific taste some/many (me) OP try and stay away from Protein Bars cuz they are so good, (kindof like candy bar?? )very addicting some people do adjust their calories when a stall hits - to shake things up a bit "assuming" I need to increase................. hmmmmm - i "assume" LOL you know what happens when you "assume" something??? You make an assssss out of you and me you are only 7 weeks PO discuss with your NUT your situation/concerns she is the only one that OFFICIALLY should direct you to your calorie intake many/most times - you just have to "ride" out a stall some people might change this or that about their daily routine, and the stall breaks but whose to say if these changes helped break the stall or the stall was gonna break on its own coincidentally the same time changes were made???? you are doing great with your weight loss 41 lbs!!!! OMG!!!! keep up the good work kathy congrats
  10. You should not be asking what your doing wrong, you should be telling everyone what your doing right. Like others have said, right after surgery alot of people don't lose. It sometimes takes several fills to start losing regularly. Did your surgeon tell you that the recommended and typical weight loss per week is between 1 and 2lbs? It sounds like you are right on track, if not ahead of the game. Remember, it's not gastric bypass, it is much slower, but you will get to the same place in the end. Be patient. If you are following the band rules, and exercising regularly, your body will follow. Good Luck and Congratulations at your success.
  11. :bored:I just had surgery 5 weeks ago and have only lost 10 lbs. what am I doing wrong?
  12. Maybe the carrots are too much. I was told I could have an unlimited amount of raw veggies. So I picked carrots because they are the easy to take to work. Guess I will up the cardio this week and see if that makes a difference.
  13. I dropped 26 pounds on mine and most of that was in the first week. My surgion never told me of a specific weight to lose. It is mainly about shrinking your fatty liver. Good luck.

    Take those pills!

Yes, you do need to check with the pharmacist. They will tell you which ones can be crushed and can recommend substitutes in some cases for the ones that can't. The only med I'm not taking at the moment is my statin because one of my liver markers is raised and statins can make that worse. There will be a review after blood tests have been taken in around 6 weeks time.

    Omg.... milestone

Congratulations and may these 2 weeks fly on by as you prepare for your new journey
  16. I am sooooo excited!!! 50 pounds ago I could not find a comfortable bra. I had basically given up and only wore one when I absolutely had to because they were so miserable. I squeeeeezed into a 44DD because it was so hard to find a 46DD. Well about 5-6 weeks ago I was able to buy 40DD and they were SOOOOO comfortable. I had to wear them on the loosest notch but they felt great! ALL DAY EVEN!! Over the last couple weeks I had to switch to the tightest notch and now that I have lost even more weight I can no longer wear these 40DDs that I just bought!! I am super comfy in a 38DD!!! I AM ELATED!!! Hooray for happy, comfy boobs!!!
  17. I'm doing a vlcd for pre-op. 3 weeks. First week I lost 8 lbs. Second week total was 13. Now I'm back to the 8 pounds total loss. Who gains on a 6-800 Cal diet?! I'm going to try to recalibrate my scale. This just cannot be right. I'm so disappointed. I cheated the tiniest bit once and with protein. I'm hydrating like a mad woman....[emoji45] Sent from my SM-N950U using BariatricPal mobile app
  18. I haven't posted here since I joined this group and wanted to let everyone know that I am 1 week post op and I'm feeling great. The first few days were a little tough, not really that painful but just uncomfortable and lethargic. I started feeling a lot better yesterday and today even better. Tomorrow I'm seeing my surgeon and he is removing the drain (thank god - the drain is the worst part). I have lost 7 lbs in 7 days, which is nice. The first few days just even sips of liquid were hard to get down. But every day I'm able to ingest a little more. I am in the full liquids stage and I am allowed Protein drinks, yogurt (plain or vanilla or anything whipped without fruit chunks), cream of wheat (not a fan), pudding, Jello, ice pops. When I first came home the doctor told me to make hydration my priority and nutrition second. Today is the first days I could say that I have taken care of both. I had 2 Protein shakes and a plain greek yogurt which adds up to 78 grams of protein! I make my Protein Drinks with powders?utm_source=BariatricPal&utm_medium=Affiliate&utm_campaign=CommentLink" target="_ad" data-id="1" >unjury (20g/protein) and Smart Balance Lactose Free Milk (10g/protein). I have also drank some Water with lemon and some decaf coffee. I really feel good. I have no hunger at all, but I do miss food a little bit. But I truly couldn't possible ingest anything if I wanted to so that makes it rather easy. Today I even went to the supermarket and walked up and down all the aisles just to get in some extra walking (while picking up a few things that I needed for the family). I just made dinner for them also and the food doesn't bother me or even appeal to me at all. Anyway, for all of those who are almost at your surgery, or are a few days past, I wanted to tell you that it is not that difficult to get through and it really gets better everyday. Just say what i say to anyone who asks how you're feeling....Better than yesterday, not as good as tomorrow! Take care sleevers! You can do it!
  19. Today is my one month anniversary of being banded, and I have lost 37 pounds so far. Although I will admit my results are vastly different than others I have seen (partly because I've heard the Basal Metabolic Rate of being male is higher), I'm hoping others will have similar results as well. It CAN be done!! Here is what I've done in a nutshell: 1. Followed 95% of the diet requirements (I ignored not drinking caffeinated coffee...need my go-go juice) 2. Pack all three meals every morning before I go to work, and eat only what I packed...nothing else. 3. Do 30 minutes of cardio 6 days a week, and 4 days a week do strength training (I just started the strength training this week) 4. Because I don't mind it, I stay pretty much on a full liquid diet during the week, with the exceptions being 1 hard-boiled egg and 1 hard-boiled egg white in the morning and tuna at night. On the weekends I expand my menu a little. :whoo:

2 weeks out I was cleared with the caveat that different people handle things differently. For example I had no problem eating raw carrots instead of boiling them to mush like I was told most people have to. I haven't tried celery yet even though I'm 3 months out but I probably should.
  21. Hi everyone! For those of you who are now in their third week post-op, what is your diet for this week? I am in my second (and last!) week of mushies. 3 small meals and 3-4 Snacks. I have to admit though, for the past few days I haven't been pureeing everything -- I have just been eating little bites ofsoft foods and chewing them really reall well. Is anyone on solids yet at three weeks? Any oen still on liquids?? I get my first fill on March 2nd (and first follow up visit! Yes, won't see my surgeon since surgery until 6 weeks out!!)

3 weeks out -- what is your diet?

I was banded on 1/23 and have had a little setback My mentor explained what pb'ing means and I've experienced that feeling but didn't know what it was. Nothing actually came up so I just thought it was a "burp." and kept eating. Now that I know this coupled with reviewing the notebook I received from my doc again PLUS, the gas and now serious constipation I'm experiencing, I think I have been eating too much. My stomach is literally in knots. I've decided to go back to the full liquid diet for a day or two in order to get my tummy straightened out. I've added prune juice to my daily intake and hopefully this will help to cleanse my system. I also purchased a food scale and some measuring cups. When I went back and read my post op instructions, I realized I'm only supposed to be taking in 1/2 cup of food for 4-6 weeks after surgery. This is my 3rd week and last night I had about 2oz of salmon, 1/2 baked potato and an 1oz of brussel sprouts. I mashed the stuff up pretty well and ate slowly, but obviously I'm eating way more than what I'm suppose to have, plus I need to limit starches to about 2 servings a week. I'm paying for it now. Let's hope my system clears up in a couple of days. 1/2 cup of food is NO food at all, but I will do my best.
  23. Does anybody have this app? Its great!!!! It has calorie, carbs, Protein, and fat counts on almost everyfood. There is a recipes section where you can get recipes for all phases. Im 2 months out and a slow loser (26 pnds since surgery day) and currently in my 2nd stall so im going to be doing the phase 1 meals. It says you can lose up to 15pnds in the first 2 weeks. I need that!!!! Of course the amounts of good we will probably be able to consume for one recipe is most likely half, so ill just consider the calorie count 1/2. Anybody want to give this a try with me???? i would love to see if this works being that we technically Atkins dieters anyways lol.
