  1. I'm glad they can do yours at the same time. My date is July 20th and I can't wait. Hope it's a good experience. Good luck to you on the revision. Sent from my iPad using the BariatricPal App
  2. I just had my band out a month ago and going for sleeve surgery on October 8th. My doctor said my stomach needs two months to heal before he could do the revision to the sleeve surgery. I've been nervous lately about leaks, has anyone had a revision to the sleeve and then had a leak?Tyia
  3. I had my revision on August 6th and my surgeon did a drain that way if a leak occurred I would know right away. They should do a contrast before you drink anything. My only regret is that I waited this long for my revision. As of yesterday I am down 35 pounds. So much easier than lap band was for me. You will do great because we have the eat slow and chew our food slowly down pat! Good luck!

I do not wanna do gastric bypass!

dying from any weight loss surgery is almost unheard of these days. Back in the 60s or 70s, yes - but not now. These surgeries have come a L-O-N-G way and are extremely safe now. Mortality rates on gastric bypass are 0.3%. It's even lower for the sleeve. That means you have a 99.7% chance of pulling through just fine. And you will. vitamin deficiencies are rare if you take your vitamins religiously. You have to take vitamins with the sleeve, too. dumping - not all RNY'ers dump. I know LOTS of RNY'ers who've never dumped (I haven't, either). The statistic I see thrown around on these and other boards are that 30% of us dump. I don't know if there are any hardcore research statistics behind that, but suffice it to say, lots of us don't dump (I kind of wish I did - it would keep me from eating some of the things that I shouldn't!) lastly, if you have GERD, you're taking a big risk with getting the sleeve. It could be fine - or your GERD could get a lot worse. I know of several people who have had to revise from VSG to RNY because of GERD. I had GERD pre-surgery, and I didn't want to risk it getting worse - so the choice was a no-brainer for me.

    Tommow is the day!

Hey Cathy!!! Big hugs for your surgery tomorrow. Everything will turn out excellent and you absolutely *will* have as good an experience as others (such as me) who have had the revision. Let us know how you're doing when you feel up to it.
  6. Hi, I hate to sound like I'm whining, because I really am happy I'm approved for surgery on July 12th, but since I've been with my surgeon through a lap band and now scheduled for a revision to the sleeve, I'm finding I'm angry. My surgeon orders everyone, band and sleeves, be on Clear liquids not only for 2 weeks before but 4 weeks after surgery. As you know that's 6 weeks. I was wondering if anyone else has such a strict doctor? When I read others have only 1 week of clear liquids and 1 week of full liquids, I get angry. I'm just hoping that after the surgery I won't want to eat and it will be fine. I know one reason my lap band failed was because I didn't always follow the rules, so I'm trying to be so good. I'm currently in my 2 weeks pre-op liquid diet and I'm finding it hard, very hard. I even failed a couple of times, really bad. I find that if I even take 1 bite of something not on the list, I end up eating like crazy. Just want to know what are others pre and post opt diet like? Thanks, lovcali

    Sleeve to Bypass

Hi, I had my Sleeve in February of 2014 but then had my revision to bypass this past November. The surgery was a little bit more difficult to get over but I was several years older too. Unfortunately, it did not cure my reflux. It's not as bad but I still have it and I'm still having to take protonix. I've lost a little more weight but not a lot. I still have 30 pounds to go so hoping this will come off soon. With the Sleeve I never got sick, i just had restrictive ability to eat. With the bypass I will get sick if I eat anything I'm not supposed to eat like bread, chicken skin and any kind of beef. It's much harder to get my protein in because eating meat is so difficult now. I miss my sleeve.
  8. My 13 year old had a real hard time with the same issue. She got really nasty about two weeks before my revision surgery and than broke down and said she didn't want me to die. It broke my heart but I kept communicating with her until I was taken to the OR that I would be ok and that I needed to do it for my health. She was so happy when she saw me in recovery. I think it is normal. I know I had my own fears about not waking up, so I can imagine what goes through our little ones minds. Hang in there. All will be well!!

    Which surgery??

This is incorrect. The shape of the sleeve it totally different from RNY. The Sleeve is the first step for DS not RNY. RNY has a pouch at the top of the stomach and the Sleeve and the DS both share the banana shape. One reason I chose the Sleeve over RY was because I know if I didn't have success with the sleeve I could revise to the DS. If you fail with RNY you have no where to go unless you are going to go out the country and have more of your intestines bypassed which is risky. Also important differences beyond shape is the sleeve leaves the pyloric sphincter in place and the stomach still functions normally, just smaller. In addition a properly formed sleeves removes almost all of the stretchy part of the stomach, RNY does not, it uses part of the stretchy part to make the pouch, thus people with RNY can get a lot of stretch in their pouch. The only way a sleeve is grossly stretched out is medical malpractice. Back to OP. If GERD was anywhere on the table, I think RNY is the only option. GERD with the sleeve is pretty terrible, if you are already prone, then don't risk it. I never had GERD in my life before having the sleeve which is why I felt it was a safe choice for me.

    Band to sleeve...gaining weight

I regret the sleeve revision....been in dehydration mode got out of that now getting out hypoglycemic mode non diabetic increased heart rate and heartburn Lord what's next. I wish I could just be cured Yea that band had me throwing up too that was the worst
  11. I've noticed the weight loss is slower after the revision but still moving at a steady clip. I had my revision to bypass in Nov 2021 so still losing but I'm noticing more plateaus and slowdowns, it eventually starts moving again though so no concerns.

    Question

I had a band done in March of 2010. I lost 25 lbs initially over 9 months. The following year I gained it all back. My weight before was 233. November 7, 2013 I upgraded from the band to the sleeve. My starting weight this time was 232. I have lost 32 lbs in 6 weeks. I wish I would have gotten the sleeve to begin with and I would be at goal by now! I didn't because I was afraid of having part of the stomach removed and the band surgery is reversible. Insurance will only cover revision if it is "medically necessary", like slip or erosion, or if you have a doctors office willing to work to get you approved and who will say it is medically necessary. I personally went to Dr. Ariel Ortiz in Tijuana Mexico and paid out of pocket both times. I like him and was comfortable trusting his experience. There is an article in Newsweek from July 2011 that lists the top 15 bariatric surgeons. Maybe there is one in your area. I like the sleeve much better and feel great because I don't feel hunger all the time like I used to. Some people think the band is great, and I'm glad it works for them. But there are plenty of people who have done the revision because of slippage, erosion, or just not losing weight. My band hadn't slipped or eroded, I just wasn't losing any weight. Luckily I wasn't gaining either, but mine was super tight in the morning til about 1 and then by evening I had no restriction at all. So I couldn't get more fill because I could barely drink water in the morning. I am super happy with the sleeve, I am seeing results now that I would have liked to see 3 1/2 years ago!

    Question

Insurance may give you a hard time about revision and revision only happens if your doctor suggests it. I had the lapband for almost 3 years...did alright but band slipped and had awful issues. Insurance wanted me to go through the entire intake process and paperwork ALL over again and then there was still chance they could deny surgery. In my honest opinion and from experience...I wish the sleeve had been an originally.

    Sweet Drinks?

Have you tried tea with honey instead of sugar? I've noticed natural sugars are much easier on my system post revision than unnatural sugars. Have you tried any of the calorie free sweeteners? Juice is allowed, just have to watch the calories, added sugars, etc. Calorie free drinks are where you really want to be looking. There are plenty of sweet tasting calorie free drink mixes, etc that you can use.

May 2014 is my date- Getting lap band

i am going for a revision after gaining back one hundred pounds after gastric bypass.i will be having a lapband. one more appt with doctor and then waiting for approval frooom medicare/medicaid. am very nervous about losing weight presurgery diet. will i be able to do it? must get off 3meds that cuse weight gain before surgery will start weanig off in two days. am concerned about hypogycemia and hair loss and costs of diet. i hope my shopping costs go down as i will be eating less. i have leiminated sugaar adn white foods. must get off caffeine too. are htere any revisionists in here? thanku abbagirl
  17. I too am scheduled for a revision to bypass on October 7, 2020 per issues with GERD. I gained 7 to 15 llbs (it goes up and down) but never did reach goal weight but have been ok with where I am at. My original surgery was done 12/26/2018 along with a hiatal hernia repair and I read above a mention of thrush, I had that with the VSG so I am wondering if I will have that issue once again with the bypass? My GERD got so bad that it is hurting my vocal chords and caused some bleeding and so I am ready to get the acid under control. Apparently my hiatal hernia repair came undone and so they will do another repair on this as well why doing the revision. I am a little nervous about it all and wondering if it will be harder? Wondering if I will go through that huge energy loss again or if will not be so bad since the body has been trough it once and the hormones don't have that big of a re-adjustment? This will be my 15th surgery and I just hope my body can handle it. I don't have any issues with dumping and can pretty much eat anything in very small portions and am wondering if that will change with revision? So I am back to this fabulous forum looking for answers.
  18. They are averages and unfortunately like the rny, band, vsg... Etc. stalls are common for all of us. It depends on so many factors, like some people are not committed and will live on slider foods and their are others who follow their plan, and some in between who are able to find a good balance. From my understanding, it is your starting weight from your most recent surgery that you go by for calculations (not your sleeve surgery). For me, since my revision to RNY (for gerd) in 8/21, it's been faster weight loss. I weigh less than at my lowest with the sleeve and am still losing despite hitting initial goal awhile ago. I find logging my calories, carbs and protein extremely helpful to look for patterns to adjust, to help awareness, especially during emotionally difficult times.
  19. Hi and welcome!! I am too a revision from Lap band to sleeve. There are a LOT of us here. Look around and read read read! There is even a lap band to sleeve revision forum here as well. Take care and well wishes on your new journey. I know I'm glad I did it!!!
  20. I'm also a Lap-band revision, and I couldn't be happier that it's out and gone. I'm 10 days post-op, and found that this forum was a great source of information and encouragement. My questions got answered here. Wishing you well.
  21. It's my 11th day after the removal of my band. Today I headed back to the gym and hit the weight machines. I've been biking at home just to keep from going stir crazy. I feel so much better without my band. I'm back on a regular diet, well regular for me as I don't eat meat. Raw veggies have landed in my fridge and in my stomach as well. I'm so weary of having another surgery. I saw my surgeon for a post-op visit and am on 500-700 calories per his instructions- more if I compensate with exercise. So my butt will be regular at the gym. Has anyone opted not to have a revision and still maintained or lost more? I've been reading the horror stories here and have managed to scare myself out of the sleeve.
  22. I'm sitting in bed at my home sipping a bottle of Water waiting for my turn in the shower. I'm a mixed bag of emotions- nervous, excited, a little scared... my darling husband (the shower hog) is grumpy today. That's his way of showing me he's nervous. My bag is packed and I'm ready to get this show on the road! I'm second on the list for this afternoon and set for surgery at 3pm. Here's keeping my fingers and toes crossed that my surgeon is able to complete my band to sleeve revision in one operation and that everything runs as smooth as clockwork!
  23. It is set!! Revision in 12 days. I had my final consult yesterday, ready to get this show on the road. I start my clear liquid diet tomorrow for 11 day so I can shrink my fatty liver. I didn't know he was over weight ? I'm ready for it, but really scared of passing away during surgery. SCARED. On top of that I found out I have the pre stages of barret esophagus issues after my endoscopy. Then put H.Pilory in the mix. Baby steps one thing at a time.
  24. I was wondering what people thought about having a section in LBT call "REVISIONS"? It appears that a lot of us who seem to have a real attachment to this forum are revising now or have revised a while ago and it might be time to have a major section in LBT. I know there is another WLS site that has one and I've found it helpful but still feel more attached to LBT. Would it just be redundent or is it a good idea, any thoughts? Thanks Nancy.:huh2:
