Battle in my mind
Sherlock1969 replied to Txpo Chick's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Fast food was tough for me too...but the longer I stay away the less I crave it...recently my hubby got a cheeseburger and I had a bite...wasn't as good as I imagined. With the band you always eat Protein first. That can be lean meat, cheese, cottage cheese, greek yogurt, eggs...all good sources of protein. The second food choice should be veggies. Lastly, should be carbs and by then the theory is you will be full or close to full so you won't eat as many. -
i'm 18 years old, & i'm a senior in high school. i was banded on Tuesday the 5th, home Wednesday the 6th, and i returned to school Monday the 11th. honestly, i felt worse at home than i did when i was around other people. it also helped me to focus on other things besides my hunger. you should be able to return to school within a week, i don't see why that would be any problem as long as you recover quickly enough. you're young, so you should be good. as for Protein shakes, yes i have one or two a day depending on how much protein i had gotten for that day. [typically, a Protein shake, a yogurt, and a milk at lunch will fulfill my protein requirement] my mom makes the shakes for me, but we use jillian michaels [that mean ass trainer from the biggest loser] whey protein. i prefer the vanilla to the chocolate. to that we use milk instead of Water, so you get even MORE protein in one shot, and we also add a little bit of pudding [it really really helps the flavor] and in the mornings, i get half a banana. i am driving. i have no problem driving at all. at first it was a bit difficult, but that only lasted the very first time i got behind the wheel. i'm serious when i tell you that i feel just like i did before the surgery, probably better. it IS going to be hard though not being able to eat. when my family is making dinner its so hard. because you WANT to eat the food, but you can't because your stomach needs to heal and it is so frustrating. i would suggest getting yoplait for when you're on the yogurt stage because they have such a variety of flavor that you really don't get bored. my favorite is cinnamon roll and it is delicious. i get the dessert flavors because it tastes more like a meal then lol. feel free to ask any questions! i'm more than happy to answer.

How much weight can you lose with the Lap band in 7 months?
Megg40 replied to Rose7's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Thats a good amount of Fluid in your band....but I found out that the band can be fickle...One day it seems tighter, one day it seems more loose. as long as I can get anything down that I choose to eat then I know I'm not too tight.... As far as what I eat each day....in the mornings I'm usually pretty tight but as soon as I wake up, have weighed and gone to the bathroom, I drink a bottle of Water. I take my Vitamins and Calcium supplement at this time. After the water I have a mocca latte..its really a Protein coffee drink that I purchase from bariatriceating.com....so thats between 7-9 am. By eleven I usually am ready to eat....I eat a greek yogurt or a scrambled egg with some cheese on it.....then about 2-3 I have a Protein shake with skim milk....and possibly a Protein Bar...I buy the atkins low carb ones they are so good... By the time dinner rolls around anytime between 5-7 I have tuna salad or chicken salad, and a serving of green Beans or asparagus....Also, some days maybe 3 times a week I have 8 ozs of low sodium V8 juice....I take a pwdered Fiber supplement and put it in my afternoon protein shake and mix it up in my magic bullet....I also drink 5-7 bottles of water a day. I stay away from crystal light and such...I try to drink mostly pure water...I also may have a glass of diet lipton green tea.... I would really like to add in a serving of fruit a day, but most of it is not low carb friendly....I'm thinking of adding some fresh blueberries to my Protein shakes as well.... If I REALLY want to induldge in something I will have a sugar free Jello pudding..I love the bannana fudge ones and I limit that to 2 times a week... When I do my normal routine of swimming I burn anywhere from 500 -700 calories a day....I consume about 600-800...but I really WORK OUT at the pool. I have found that treading water burns MORE calories than laps or anything else you can do in the water....but I also do laps and I "water jog"....I try to get to my complexes pool early, so I can get my exercise in before the pool gets crowded. I am now, just this week, starting to do stregnth training with a resistance band.... I am also considering meeting with a personal trainer to get a stregnth training workout and MAYBE join a fitness club... I think I will want to drop 15 - 20 more pounds before I join anywhere....so far the swimming is working and if I vary my legenth of time and intensity in the pool maybe it will still work for a bit longer..... As far as your fluid in your band....only YOU will know if you have restriction or not....I eat slow and after every bite I pause and ask myself if I am satisfied....??? If I am I quit eating. I think before I had surgery and I would just stuff myself I had the mentality that I will not eat again....Now, when I am satisfied, I have to mentally tell myself that this is NOT my last meal....and that I will eat again, when I am hungry. My band has taught me how to eat slow because after my first and only fill, I wasn't eating slow enough and I would vomit. I did this like 3 times in a week and it finally hit me to slow it down....also my band will tell me when it doesnt like something....my partner made greasy french fries one night and I just desperately had to have a few but my band said no...and I vomited it all up....so I can not tolerate grease anymore which is a very good thing for me and my heart.....If you're wondering if you have restriction or not, I would just suggest eating according to your surgeons guidelines and pause after every bite and ask yourself if you are satisfied....if you're like me and feel that it is "your last meal"...remind yourself that you will eat again and soon....it helps me with my head issues.... This is all a learning process and it's not easy, but it is doable and very worth it.... Take Care, Meg -
I was also sleeved Tuesday. My doctor gave me a slip n slide diet. Basically it has to be able to slide off your plate and through a funnel with no problem ie jello, yogurt, protein shakes, soft scrambled eggs, soup broth is what I was given

Gastric Bypass Veterans - Get real with me!

My "good" average day: Kashi bar and coffee for Breakfast Hardboiled egg about an hour later If I have time, I have a nf greek yogurt for a snack lunch is usually some grilled chicken from the salad bar and some red onions, green peppers, feta cheese, cherry tomatoes, balsamic vinegar (and sometimes a bit of olive oil) If I remember but I usually forget: another yogurt or some cottage cheese for mid day snack dinner is usually some chicken or ground turkey meal (turkey chili, baked chicken, sauteed chicken, chicken stir fry, that sort of thing). Protein bar for dessert (Quest or other) I don't dump from any of that. If I'm cheating it may or may not get me but my symptoms are pretty mild. Some people don't get this, others get it really bad. The best thing is to eat right and you won't have to worry! -
I am hesitant to admit this but the other day I had some frozen yogurt with my husband, not even a large quantity really, maybe 4 OZ... it went RIGHT through me, I felt like I was going to throw up... I won't be doing that again, not to mention its bad for weight loss.

I was on liquid for the first 3 days and then I have to do full liquid, including yogurts, puddings, etc, for FOUR weeks! Doesn't that sound too excessive? I saw my nutritionist today and told her that I tried a little bit of mashed potatoes, and she pretty much told me that I shouldn't start puree for another 2 weeks, despite my surgeon telling me that I cannot do any damage to the staples. I was sleeved on May 21st, by the way. I am also having such a problem getting in Protein. I heard a lot of people like the Premier Protein, chocolate flavor? Any suggestions? I have already spent so much money on different Protein shakes. I tried the isopure vanilla, which I hate (yuck), then I tried the isopure drinks, the fruit alpine, they were even worse, then I tried these coffee lattee flavored packets my nutritionist sold that I didn't like, and finally (today) I bought a pack of the pre-made shakes my nutritionist had in her office and they were good but they are expensive ($18 for 6!) and don't have as much protein as the premier, they only have 15g whereas the premier has 30g. Suggestions welcomed!!!

How much can you eat at 7 montgs out?
macman replied to chanelle102's topic in Tell Your Weight Loss Surgery Story
At six plus months out, I can eat 3-4 ounces of dense protein and a few bites of vegetables. That is for dinner which is the largest meal of the day. Breakfast is primarily a protein shake and lunch is leftover protein wrapped in lettuce leaves. Snacks are yogurt or protein bar, maybe some nuts or cheese. -
Baked egg dishes are great - and you can do them in muffin tins for smaller portions sizes. You can also add any veggies and cheese you want. Juevos Rancheros are awesome - I take about 1/4 c of black Beans (canned - I rinse and drain them to get off a lot of the goop and salt) heat them up in a pan with about a tablespoon of chopped onion, a tablespoon of chopped bell pepper, and a tsp of chopped garlic (you can add some jalepeno too, if you like it!) then I crack an egg on top, turn the heat onto low, pop a lid on and cook it for about 10 minutes or so until the egg is cooked through. You can put some cheese on top too. For a quick Breakfast, you can make homemade bars (we're working on a recipe for one that's high Protein, low carb and actually tastes good ...) or yogurt is always good too.

I did not put anything into a blender other than vegie Soup.My mushies consisted of:- yogurt, soft cheese, eggs, minced meat, oats, weetbix, veggies mashed with gravy, over cooked pasta(made some great tuna lasagne),baby fruit etc. I agree that putting a meal into a blender and having it all mushed together sounds horrible. -
23days postop and not happy
btrieger replied to ladytru84's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I was banded a few days before you and was told to eat 6 ounces at each meal and if I was still hungry to eat 8. I've been living on 6 ounces for Breakfast, usually a 4 ounce yogurt and 2 ounces of cottage cheese. About 8 ounces for lunch and then 6 ounces for dinner. I didn't start getting hungry until last week. I ate a little more than I planned to but tried to stay positive. On Friday the band reminded me it was there by clogging up in public and again yesterday at home. I am back on board with the 6-8-6 again. A trick to fighting hunger pangs is to brush your teeth when they come. It takes your appetite away. Stay positive. Your fills are right around the corner. My first is April 21. -

Low carb not working
elvis3734 replied to elvis3734's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I am using a yogurt dressing on the salad. Bolthouse. Only 2 tablespoons. Will quit the chili. Have to think of something else for lunch though. Thank you. But, I am curious about people losing weight after surgery. Don't they eat only around 800 cal a day and drop a ton of weight? Sent from my SM-J700T using the BariatricPal App -

You seem to like and tolerate dairy products; if you're not tolerating meat maybe consider adding something like yogurt? How do you feel about eggs? -

What and how much???
Globetrotter replied to Barbie_70's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
God, how I miss salad. Where I'm from they are big on locally sourced organic farmer's markets and I could have wept over the beautiful vegetables and fruits. I long for an heirloom tomato salad, with balsamic vinegar and goat cheese and arugula and cucumbers and fresh cracked black pepper and high quality olive oil, weep!! My only real source of carbs come from my 1 TBSP serving rounds of Peanut Butter, could this very low carb diet be what is making my weight loss so slow? It's not on purpose, it's just that all the carbs on offer here are the very bad kind, even the yogurt is just all sugar and the milk has had all the nutrition sucked out of it. the cheese is that super processed pre shredded stuff that bears no resemblance to that which we call cheese. I decided to be decadent and forego the PB in favor of some ... mashed potato for dinner! :cursing: 2 tsp's worth later, I'm so over it. This crap is gross. -
Ok, the salad you described must be my favorite one! We're gonna get there! We're gonna have our (small) salads eventually. I tried a tiny bit of cucumber yesterday (although I know it's too early for that) and it was so refreshing. About the peanut butter, I should try some, I haven't had any in ages (not that I need the extra carbs). I mostly eat Greek yogurt (which is unsweetened) and some baby yogurt (for a change, because I like it) and I eat cottage cheese (2%) and a couple of local relatively low fat cheeses that are actually nice. I was thinking of trying some mashed potato myself but for some reason it doesn't sound that appealing at the moment. I tried a bit of baked potato the other day, that was nice.

I read a lot of posts and people say that your body don't really start to suffer until your about a month out with little to none protein.. I would highly reccomend that you turn it around and start getting the needed protein in because it will affect your muscle mass and instead of losing fat weight you will be losing muscle weight. There are soo many foods that are loaded with proteins (carb master yougurt, greek yogurt, milk, some sugar free puddings. Are you having problems with protein shakes? I am on thick liquids and I am only having to drink one protein shake a day..

Bread vs. low carb tortillas..hard to eat?
wasfatnsassy replied to weightisover's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
Hi all - just banded on July 29 - feeling better today but am pretty hungry most of the time. Not eating more than yogurt right now but in anticipation of working up to solid food would some one please spell out for me exactly what a "PB" is and what is "sliming" - it seems this is like regurgitating up food but not clear. What does one do when either happens? How long does an attack of each last and what are best strategies to get through them? Read earlier someone said they used pineapple juice and given the enzymes in this fruit maybe these help "dissolve"?? Thanks for input. I believe forewarned is forearmed! -
I'm on post op day 5. I'm on full liquids. Clear liquids I had sf popsicles, 3/1 part diluted cranberry or apple juice. Chicken or beef broth. And sf jello. Full liquids I was told to try to get in 1/4to1/2 cup protein shakes twice a day. Sf yogurt, apple sauce (no chunks), sf pudding, blended soups (cream of chicken, minestrone, etc. ) soups need to be really blended, no chunks. Try to avoid gassy or acidic ones. I was told I could take beano if needed. Cream of wheat or cream of rice with fat free milk. All full liquids needed to be thinner then a milk shake.
