Hi there, Sorry to hear you have a bump in the road but congrats on your plastics! It sounds like you did very well on the program to begin with. I would suggest getting back to what got you to lose the weight in the first place. It will be important to get back on track. There is a 5 day pouch test that I would recommend trying. You can google it and it will help you get back on track. Good luck and keep us posted!
  2. I agree that many are misinformed and that is part of why they say the things they do. This is EXACTLY why I've told only four people, my parents (and so far my mom's keeping her mouth shut), my DH and a friend who was also thinking of the band. I have had to have my date changed, and I may not tell her about the updated date. Though she checks in here from time to time, so she may see it (if so, hello!). I plan on not ever telling people. If I am successful and lose weight with the band as I plan to be, then I will merely say it's been a combination of exercise and portion control that has helped me to lost weight. I've been fortunate that I've jumpstarted my weight loss and have lost a little over 40# already before being banded, so if I continue to lose, no one will say anything.

Every one is different...i guess it depends on your self control. Yes I hated food at first and I completely avoided junk food...but family started to say I was getting too small and it madee eat more and eventually id taste a piece of donut here and there and now recently ive bern binging on junk. I feel helpless I habe np self control and I have gained ten lbs. Im trying to practice self control and get to my goal weight of 140. So you just stay away from old habits and stay in control. However, my doc said that research does suggest that rny patients do gain 10-20 lbs back eventually. I don't ever want to be big again either.

    Deciding On Wls?

You're never too old to do this, KristiKay. In the very first informational meeting that I went to, there was an 80-something woman who was one of my surgeon's patients and she had it done about 10 years prior. So, don't rush into something that you are not sure of. That said, you could enjoy many, many more years of svelt, active life and do a LOT of things you probably can't or don't now because of weight. That's the way I looked at it. Not to mention, it's a good way to head off those sure-to-come health problems that result from the obesity. If you need a recharge of motivation, I suggest 2 things: 1. Go onto YouTube and search for Gastric Bypass Success Stories. There are many there and seeing their stories is motivational. 2. Go to www.obesityhelp.com and look at all of the before/after photos on their home page. They change them regularly and there are LOTS to look at. Every one of them is impressive and many are truly inspiring. Hang in there!

    Deciding On Wls?

I am 53 and had my RNY surgery on April 9th. It was the best thing I ever did !!! I was very fortunate that my insurance paid for everything and I did not have to be on any diet. I had about 80 lbs. to loose, my BMI was 37 and I had high blood pressure. My general physician wrote a letter to the insurance which was required by my surgeon which helped as well. If you tried supervised diets in the past does your ins. accept that ? I know mine did but I did not have to go that route. My weight has been up and down for years and getting older I cannot work out like I use to when I would run 5-6 miles a day. I just can't do that anymore.... So I chose the RNY and am so happy I did MsCook had some really great motivators above. My little motivator was that I bought a really nice, expensive top and my 1st goal is to fit into it by the end of September. I have other goals set along the way... I'm taking baby steps and each goal I make for my self puts me that much closer to fit into my skinny clothes again. Good Luck

    Will i need PS?????

i worry about needing a tummy tuck and a breast lift/augmentation. as my doctor was going over things pre-op with me he said to be sure to give myself at least 18 months from surgery before i consider any additional surgeries. he also said that to help the skin be sure to exfoliate (sp?). he said to scrub problem areas very well to help skin to renew. dont know how well that will actually help, but sure isnt gonna hurt to do it! my plan has been that if i do need any surgeries i have to maintain my goal weight for one year before i get it/them. its the deal i made w/ myself and w/ my dh. cant wait to get there!
  7. Howdy, I had a lap-band years ago but did not have a support system so I was not able to lose much weight. I also encountered some problems so I gave up trying and had the saline removed. I have moved to a new area with good support. I had an endoscopy this week and everything is all right for me to start again. I get my first fill on Tuesday. Yeah! The Time is Now.

    Telling people at work

I am also in healthcare and have thought the same thing. Remember the HIPAA rules and that it's nobody's business but yours. You don't even have to explain to your boss. You are right about people will talk. I hate to tell you this, but I know from experience that they are also talking now. I had a lead person ask if I really needed scrubs that big. I think I'd rather have them talk about how great I'm looking and how healthy I'll be, and yes, that it's even time I "did something" about my weight. My mom makes comments that she doesn't realize hurt like a knife cut. She says how fat people are disgusting, etc. I can't wait to see her reaction, for I'm not going to tell her about the surgery until after she sees me for the first time. I have been contemplating WLS for almost 10 years. It's about time for me to do it. My recent visit to my doctor shows that I am now diabetic, after having been pre-diabetic for almost 10 years. I also have several other weight related issues. She thinks WLS is a really option and even put in a consult for me. Now I will wait for the surgeon's office to call. I am planning on going to their seminar too. I am excited and can't wait to do this!

    Telling people at work

Don't wait to field questions when you return to work. Let it be known ahead of time that you're taking several weeks off and, as probably is the case, the time is combined vacation and personal time because you have a load of things to take care of. Once your weight loss is evident and people begin to ask questions, the answer is the brief truth: You changed the way you eat and began an exercise routine. When the high rate of weight loss is questioned, then you may wish to 'fess up or stick with the original story. Make you choice based on your comfort level at the time.

    Story the short version.

God bless you. Stay strong and just think when you come out of this and you are a down a ton of weight you will look back and KNOW it was worth it.
  11. To all of my vets!! Did anyone have to get a tummy tuck after a huge amount of weight loss? If so, did your insurance cover it, As it being Medically Necessary? I know some people said they snapped back without a tummy tuck and others had very loose skin.
  12. I was sleeved on 26/5. It has been a very smooth process. I actually feel really great and energetic which is strange as I thought I'd feel the opposite. I've noticed a lot of you have moved on to puréed or soft food after 10 days. I'm under the impressive it was 14? Also when did everyone start exercising after sleeve? I mean weight training and cardio, not walking Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App
  13. I just walked the butte with a friend. Little or no exercise for the past couple of months, but.... A mile up and down with 500 feet of elevation gain, it was still 88 degrees out at 9:45. I think I'm going to be sore tomorrow.
  14. Hey everyone!!! So I'm planning to have the RNY...hopefully sooner than later! Just started the process though in July and see the surgeon next week. (I've already seen the np) Ive also done blood work and NUT visit....I've gotten all my specialties doctors to write letters of support and I'm psyched!!! What an amazing app with stories of good, bad and everything in between!! Love it! Do we have any type 1 diabetic success stories? I've had diabetes for 21 years now (was dx at age 11) my bmi is 36 and I have a ton of other issues however, what was your diabetes like post RNY? I know I'll never go into remission but just curious the effect on type ones? My doctors seem to think I'll gain better control....however, on the insulin pump I've had for 4 months has dropped my a1c from 9.3- 6.7!! It has made me gain 25 lbs though! Yikes! No, Laura. My MD is average weight, but he's of oriental extraction and I'm sure has never had a weight problem in his life. @@ He always had this disappointed look on his face when he saw my weight. I can't wait until I'm at goal and go in for my checkup, just to watch him eat his words!

Im new to this app and im looking for some help im 2 1/2 yrs out and ive had a baby a year ago i had lost 150lbs but since having the baby ive gained 10lbs i need help i do not want to get back to where i was
  18. Hello! So obviously, I'm new here. I just wanted to say hello, and add my 2 cents. I'm 5'8, and my current weight is 360lb. I can't say for sure that this is my highest weight, as I'm pretty sure I've lost some weight since January, but I never weighed my self, so I can't be sure. I guess it really doesn't matter though, 360lb is high enough, don'cha think! Lol. I've been fat (said not as derogatory, but as a factual statement), almost my whole life. I had the few years pre-puberty as skinny, but once 11 or 12 hit, that was over. I am lucky enough to have gained confidence in my self in my early 20's. Loving myself, body and all. So I never tried all the questionable fad diets and gimmicks that are out there. However, I was aware that a lower weight would be healthier in the long run. Obesity runs in my family, and my Nanie (my Mom's Mom) died from complications due to being obese. I knew I didn't want to end up in the same situation as I got older, so I did try calorie counting and exercise. While it was semi successful, I just wasn't able to lose much, nor keep it off. I knew I needed something more powerful, and lasting, for me to make weight loss work. So I've always been interested in bariatric surgery. Due to many circumstances, surgery through health care (Canadian here), was just not an option, and money for pay myself surgery, was just as unlikely. However, after a few family members went through they're own surgery, seeing how helpful surgery really was for weight loss in individuals who haven't been able to do it on their own, some of my family decided that they wanted me to have this chance, and put things in motion for me to be able to do this. Fast forward to now, a few months later, I have a surgery date of September 5, going to a surgeon in Mexico, the same one that one of my family members went to. She is confident enough in her experience to have set me up with them. In fact, she'll be traveling with me, to help me out. I'm excited for this journey, and a little nervous, I've never had surgery before, but I know this will be good for me. While I've been lucky enough to have remained relatively healthy, with only sleep apnea as an issue I have, I know that won't last as I get older if I don't do something now. So that's my story so far. I'm loving being able to read everyone's story on here, and hope to add more to this great community!
  19. Today is a great day! Today I hit the 100lbs mark. I had my RNY on May 12th and as of my weight in today I've lost 100LBS. That is just over 3 months time. I'm doing great and eating healthy every day. I'm at around 700 calories per day and walk 2 miles every morning 5 days a week. I've just started to tone and lift light weights at the gym. I feel great and can't believe that i fit into an x-large shirt now..I was 3/4XL before. THis is the best decision I've made and have 0 regrets. I feel great and have so much more energy.
  20. I weigh daily and find comfort and control in seeing it every morning. I also agree that it gives me insight in how my body changes water-wise throughout my cycle. I do not count lbs lost until I get two consecutive days at that weight, then I consider it my new weight.
  21. I weigh daily and if there is a pound more than I expect I no longer freak. If I weigh any time other than when I first wake-up it's about 2-3 lbs different; also when I go to the doc it's about 2-3 lbs higher than home. I count my losses and only worry about a gain of more than 3 lbs.

    Current Weight July 18, 2016

Jaime I have a type of Medicare UPMC for you. So 6 months of classes is mandatory too! So we have almost the same type of height and weight. After I meet with the surgeon I'll update if I have to loose any weight pre op but even if it's not mandatory I still might with the pre op diet. And good luck to you!
