5 months of success, and creeping aggravations.
OutsideMatchInside replied to RoscoColetrain's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
@@RoscoColetrain It is easy to get let how far you have to go still cloud the success of how far you have came. All I keep thinking about are these last 50-60 pounds I want to lose so I can have plastics and I don't think that I have lost a whole entire adult person in less than a year without feeling miserable. Just take their compliments in stride and don't internalize them. Most fat people are never successful at losing weight, so when people do lose weight it is amazing to people around them. -
Yay! Under 250 for the first time in...?
ouroborous replied to ouroborous's topic in Weight Loss Surgery Success Stories
I figure that probably around spring of next year I might start posting some body shots. By that time I should be approaching my goal weight, and it won't be a horrendous waste of money to buy clothes that fit properly. Plus, I maybe will be a little less shy about people seeing "all of me." Now if I could just turn back the clock so that I was 30 instead of 40, life would be good -
It's always awesome watching those shows. I've competed in a few strong man events and highland games, it's a blast. Even at the local level, it's relatively easy to get in to and participate plus it gives us a goal to work toward instead of a generic "lose weight" "get stronger" mentality. Atlas Stones were always my favorite event along with the log press, I was just never very good at being quick and strong so I focused on powerlifing. Will be competing at the National level in 2014 USPA and then at the Texas Police games as long as my recovery keeps going well. I am looking forward to getting the body weight down and start competing in lighter weight classes, I'll likely pick up another local strongman event and give it a go when that happens.

Hi! I'm 27, 5 feet 4 inches, start weight was 300, now 243(could be less, haven't weighed myself in two weeks), was banded 5/15/12. Good luck on your weightloss

Happy Holidays everyone. Just wanted you all to know I did end up losing 7 pounds after 14 days of hellish torture LOL. My doctor said my liver shrank a little but not a lot. He said it will continue to shrink as I lose weight. I was on 19 medications and he said that can sometimes have an effect on the shrinking... so now we know. Surgery went well and other than feeling like I did 100 situps I wouldn't really know I had surgery. No real after effects. I threw up once in the hospital when I took too many of my 19 meds at once but other than that no other issues. I'm back to drinking normally with no problem. Still no food yet, I have 8 more days to go to get to puree but I get milk and yogurt on Wed and I'm really looking forward to it. I think it will settle okay but will do small amounts at first. Thanks, everyone for being so nice and supportive! Love this group!

High BMI's
desertgirl_74 replied to This-is-my-journey's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
My BMI was 61 at my first appointment. Not my highest weight though. I had the sleeve surgery. I'm now 5 months post-op and I'm down to 45.5 right now. I don't think I'm dropping weight super fast, but I follow my plan and exercise regularly. It's coming off steadily though. My diabetes is in remission and I feel better than I have in 10 yrs. I'm only half way to my goal, but I see light at the end of this tunnel. -
Amazing transformation!! Congrats on the huge weight loss! Keep up the good work!

Approved and on my surgeon's calendar!

great news!!! welcome to the loser's bench.....and enjoy your new journey to weight loss. -
I was not required to do the pre-op diet like most, but the bariatric group I go to just does not require it no matter what size a person is....But I think you will be fine because you are not eating so your liver has to be shrinking even if you do not lose weight...my body is like yours, I need more food to lose weight. Stay positive and do not give in and keep following your doctors pre-op diet. I wish you all the best on your upcoming surgery and a speedy recovery. You got this girl ((Hugs))

Just checking in
LeslieR041906 replied to LeslieR041906's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
What kind of routine do you have to lose your weight? That was the other question? What are you eating? Exercise, how long and what kind of exercise. Just curious, I seem to be teetering up and down the scale. Not happy. -
Good luck to you. Get walking soon and you will find the effects of the drugs will go away sooner. I started slightly heavier than you, and was off my diabetic med immediately, off some of my HBP meds within weeks, and can sleep now without my CPAP and not disturb my S/O. One word... Protein. The weight falls off of us guys if we follow a high protein program with low carbs, moderate calories and exercise every day. Good luck to you and congratulations on the band.... See you in 100 pounds... TJ

My hubby currently has a lap band and will be sleeved this summer. He is a truck driver as well. Your going to LOVE the sleeve! My hubby gained all his weight when he was OTR, fortunately he's local and home every night now.

This surgery requires a lot of focus and determination. I'm guessing that you have both if you have 5 children, most of which are teenagers. You are probably used to giving everything you have to their needs. But after surgery, you have to add yourself to the list of people. You have to make conscious effort to make good decisions everyday. This includes, shopping, meal planning, meal prepping, exercising. Unfortunately, you can't just eat less and miraculously loose weight. So my suggestion is to make sure you mentally prepare yourself that YOU MATTER and you will have to focus on yourself at times. If your husband has to take the brunt of it for the first few months, then so be it. It would be awesome to hire someone to help out, but not everyone can afford that. Just remember you are doing this for your family, as much as yourself. They will benefit from the new you. It's not selfish to take time for your health.

A few questions.......please help?
LeighaMason replied to soooconfused's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
1)I had to get use to the idea of not drinking while I was eating, however, you can ease into it because as you get fills it becomes semi-painful if you do it and that really helps you stop. 2) See response above. 3) I refuse to let my lap band be a shameful thing, I don't volunteer the information but if someone asks, I tell. As in "I had lap band 6 months ago and I am doing great!" Because this is a positive statement people don't react negatively, if they don't approve or don't want to talk about it they will change the subject, if they are interested they will ask questions. I hope that my experience gives others who are looking for a change the courage to look for the solution for their own weight concerns whether that includes the WLS or not. Good luck. -
A few questions.......please help?
soooconfused posted a topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Hi everyone. I am considering getting the band, and I have a few questions if anyone wouldn't mind answering for me. Im a little confused (or sooo confused lol) 1. Can you really not drink Water WHILE your eating? I dont' know why, but that really concerns me. I love drinking water, and drink a LOT, and I get thirsty just imagining not being able to drink at all during a meal. 1. What does PB, sliderfood, and sweetspot mean exactly? 3. How do you deal with telling people in your daily life? That part kinda scares me. My husband said it woudn't be anyones business, but when I "imagine" scenarios in my head of me having lost some weight and people saying 'oh wow, you look good, what are you doing?" of feeling like im lying if I dont' say "i got a lap band".......... But I intend on eating clean and exercising, and I know it will be hard work too, but I dont' know im just confused............ Thanks everyone. (and sorry if i posted this in the wrong place?) -

Band Failed - Should I get the sleeve?
Oregondaisy replied to petepotamus's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
That does not surprise me in the least. I found a picture of me from 10 years ago. There are not very many pictures of me at my highest weight. I am so glad I had WLS and even more glad that I had the band removed and got the sleeve! -
Well, I have decided to take some of your advice and set mini goals for myself. My first one was to be able to use wii fit (which has a weight limit of 330 pounds) My second one was to be under 300 pounds! This morning I was 295.2!!! My next mini goal is to wear size 20 old navy jeans and to weigh less than my fiance (he's 265). So another 30 pounds and I *should* meet both of these (unsure about the pants, but I am currently wearing a good fitting/on the loose side 22....

Happy New Year Cindy!!! You know I can't believe I'm where I'm at. I was 180 this am. I got tickled when I went to WW before Christmas, they asked if I was still trying to lose weight. I'm 20 lbs below my goal. LOL I said I'm just going with the flow. I never thought I would see anything below 200. I can honestly see a normal BMI now. 21 lbs to go. Shoot, I'm wearing size 12 jeans and they are baggy on my behind. LOL I could never imagine this before. 159 in 2009!!

I posted on my blog this week regarding how I passed the Jazzercise Instructor Audition on Thursday and was basically on cloud nine for a couple of days. I'm very proud of that accomplishment, but I'm even more proud of yesterday. After the initial audition we had a day of seminars and then a day of movement technique/critique. Yesterday was the movement technique day and I can say that I've never worked out so hard in all of my life, BUT it was also one of my proudest days too. It was an 8 hour day with about 5 or so hours spent moving at a high intensity...skipping, jumping, lunging, etc. and even weights and ab work thrown in there for fun:-) I sweat through 3 different workout outfits when all was said and done (glad I listened and brought extras). Looking back over the past 11 months, I'm simply amazed out how much my life has changed for the better. I can remember when I first started taking classes at about 220 lbs. how I thought it would be neat to be an instructor and I knew that I had the dance and leadership ability, but I also knew that I wasn't physically strong enough to make it through the process (couldn't always perform high impact/high intensity and even though that's okay for a student, instructors need that ability). Now I feel so strong and am so grateful that I had this procedure to help me achieve my goals!

I was wondering from any of you experience bandsters about how many calories do you eat per day? Im not sure if I am eating enough. The nurse told me I needed to eat more to lose weight, sounds weird to me, but im not sure. Thanks for your help.
