  1. My regular doctor said that any weight loss will reduce the stress on my joints (hips and knees are an issue) from the RA. The surgeon did mention that the GERD could get worse. It is pretty well controlled with medicaiton now, so I'm not as worried about that. I also didn't really mention that I have tried many diets and failed them all: weight watchers, atkins, slim fast, pills, etc. I know a lot of my hunger is mental, but I was always physically hungry on the diets. My brother mentioned that he feels way less hungry than he did before. I like that the sleeve reduces the ghrelin that the body produces. I was working out 3x per week with a personal trainer before I was diagnosed with RA. The RA and fibro make it difficult for me to work out like I used to adding to my steady weight gain. I still work out, but I can't really kill it the gym like I want to.
  2. Saturday marks my 2 anniversary and I have no regrets. I was just over 35 BMI with no medical issues. I was very tired of losing the same 20-25 lbs and never reaching my goal. Well, I am very close; I've lost 48 lbs, wear a size 8 pant and Medium / Large top. This has been a success and well worth the struggles and discipline it took to get here. Yes, I ate the wrong things because my mind wanted to and I suffered short term (weight gain, pain during digestion,etc.). Now, i think i want the peanut M&M so i buy and they sit in the cupboard. i might eventually open and eat a handful or my husband will eat them and i don't care. Today, i am focused on BMI and not weight. I am at 27.6 BMI today and the RN tells me 27% is maintainable level for me. I workout 4-5days a week. Primarily walking for 30 min and strength train using Yoga Booty Ballet. happy days are here.

    Pregnant And Overwhelmed!

Thank you! I've actually since lost a couple pounds since gaining the initial 10! I have been walking the stairs at work every hour to combat leg/ankle swelling! Hopefully it will combat weight gain too (and make my ass look amazing)!

    Gastric Bypass And Pcos

Hi i got diagnoses with pcos about 8 years ago. I wasnt a heavy kid or teen. I never had regular periods. I'm 5'8" I always weight 150 to 165. In less then 2 years I was 262. Once I figured out what I had I hit the gym like crazy. 6 days a week. Strict diet. I hit 180 and got pregnant. It was my merical baby. I was so scared to loose the baby I stopped exercising. I weighed 252 when I delivered. Then I got pregnant again. My boys are 11 months apart . The weight gain was an additional 18 pounds. I started working out again. Then boom car accident. Two pinched nerves two herniated disks. Constant injections in my back. I just want my life back. I want to play with my kids. My mistake was not watching my weight dieting my first pregnancy. With pcos once the weight comes on its a slippery slop. I'm having the surgury to reclaim my life. I just urge everyone with pcos to be careful when you do get pregnant. It's such a blessing as we all know. But pcos makes it so hard before during and unfortunately after pregnancy.

    Sleeved Patients W/ Pcos

So glad to see this topic. I'm very curious how I'll be effected. I have PCOS...symptoms include weight gain, some acne, some facial hair (waxing fixes it), and painful cysts etc. I had an IUD implanted in March 2012 but my periods have not gotten any lighter or regular. I'm kinda frustrated with that. I had my sleeve done a week ago today. Weighed yesterday & I've lost 14 lbs so far. Had to lose 30 lbs before surgery. That was hard! I started my period the day before surgery but by the time I was out of surgery...it stopped. Then started again on Sunday. It has been ridiculously heavy. I'm not sure what to make of it. Hoping for light at the end of the tunnel.
  6. You are doing just fine and I agree with those who said that 20lbs a month might be too much. I am very concerned at how you reacted to a 2lb gain and am wondering if it would help if you could talk to someone professional about your fears of weight gain. There is nothing wrong with getting someone to help you through this journey and remind you to focus on the positive. I would be jumping for joy for 18lb loss in one month and instead of jumping for joy for you, my heart was breaking at the obvious devistation you were feeling..............take care of yourself body and mind.
  7. I'm aware that a 2 pound gain it's not th end of the world but for reason it is for me. I had no idea I would be this phsyco but honestly I need a little support. If you have time please watch my video so you see how bad it affected me. The pictures at the beggining a few day ago they just happened to match my feelings today. =(
  8. Hello everyone, I just want to introduce myself. My name is Ammisuu. I am 49 years old and have been yo-yoing weight gains and losses my entire adult life. Since early July 2012 I have been attending a bariatric surgery program. I attended several general information meetings, met with a social worker, met with registered dietitian, met with a nurse practitioner, had blood work, answered multiple questionnaires, took quizzes, communicated with my primary care physicians office several times regarding insurance referrals and prior authorizations with my insurance company………all while exercising, eating right and losing weight. My starting weight was 246. BMI = 45. The center recommended that I lose 5 % total body weight (12 pounds) prior to meeting with the surgeon. I met the recommended goal and had an appointment with my surgeon on Sept 26. I was cleared medically to have the surgery. After that appointment I met one last time at the bariatric center for a 2 hour review session. The presenter lectured a repeated theme, “you cannot gain any weight before surgery or the surgery will be postponed”…. I have been a bit stressed about this since I have a history of frequent gains and losses. This fear is a bit unrealistic at this time since I have lost 22 pounds as of this morning’s weigh-in. Regardless, I still worry. As of this writing, I have completed my preoperative diet and today is the FINAL day. Tomorrow, October 31, 2012 I will undergo Lap-band surgery!!! I’m sure you’ll be hearing more from me soon. Happy Halloween everyone Ammisuu

    Strength Training Questions

Like COnative I believe in high intensity interval training. It worked for me in the past before the cancer and the weight gain. I look forward to bringing it back in some time in the future. I have found that working out too long takes too much out of me. I am trying to get it all done within 1 hour. HIIT works well with that goal. I used to do heavy duty bodybuilding. I am nearly 64 now and am not concerned with bulk which is impossible anyway at my age and testosterone level. My goal is optimal body fat level and health. I already have defeated high blood pressure, diabetes, and sleep apnea. Studies indicate that a fit, slim body can better ward off the return of prostate cancer. It is worth the effort.

    Beer Post Op?

My doctor recommend not drinking Becuse the alcohol is now digested in the small intestines which will absorb the alcohol much faster thus giving you a buzz faster then normal. That and the fact that alcohol is a bad habit that will lead to other bad habits that will lead to weight gain and then frailer at WLS. For me that scares the hell out of me I don't want to be FAT ever again. So if it means giving up beer, soda, candy, fatting foods I'm ok with that. I love the way I'm looking and haven't been this light in 40 years. Surgery Anniversary 7/30/12

    Roadblocks!

Sounds like you need new doctors. I was on depo for 10 years. I loved depo, but I believe that us where a lot of my weight gain came from. I asked my GYN several times for a better solution and he mentioned Mirena. I determined it was not for me and stayed in depo for 2 more years. I eventually got tired of him suggesting other forms or medications when I really wanted something permanent. He would not do surgery for sterilization. Although I was 30 and had no kids, I had also been married twice and could of had kids if I wanted kids. I understood that I wasn't motherly and would rather have Great Danes than children. I found another GYN. She was very understanding and listened to me and my reasons and what I wanted. She helped me find the method of birth control that worked for me and was willing to preform the Essure procedure. That and WLS have been the best decisions I have ever made. Having a doctor that will listen and help you makes all the difference.

Too Tight Weeks After Fill. Is This Possible?

How funny. I just came home and started my period. I bet this is due to water weight gain. I am going to wait and see if it gets better before I remove any fluid.
  15. Ok everyone! so after 4 months of preparation and Dr. visits and the the untimely death of my brother in September and stressful 5lbs weight gain. I finally got my banding date, It's Nov 14. I am so happy and excited about it but at the same time I am wondering if I will be able to travel on the evening of the 15th? The man that murdered my brother will be going to court on the 16th and the entire family is expecting me to be there. My family members are unaware of my weight loss plan only my husband and long time friend knows. This will be the third court appearance (I missed the second one) as we find out what will happen to him at the same time we will be talking to the DA handling his case. Did I also say I am my families acting spokes person and all decisions are made as a whole with my mom, my 2 older sisters and myself plus my mom respects my decision making. What is this soon to be BANDSTER to do.
  16. Grrrr! Everything seemed to be going so smoothly & now it just feels like one more thing...no wait, just one more... Or wait! Sorry...just THIS one more thing... Today: birth control This battle over my uterus has got to end. Is it not bad enough that I have to stop taking my Yaz? Now my PCP won't quit haggling me about switching. She is CONVINCED that Mirena is best. I know that it is not, for ME. So then she wants me back on Nuvaring. (NOT going to happen--that thing did evil things to me) I asked 3x abt depo & now that my pill pack is almost ready to run out, she's calling me back in for ANOTHER APPT TO DISCUSS THIS ISSUE. In my eyes, it's not an issue. If I can't be on the pill, I want the shot or I'll take my chances on nothing. She is so thick. I am fully aware that depo has been linked to weight gain. However, I've been on it before & I know what to expect! . I should've gotten a sep GYN. omg I'm so frustrated. 347*294/285/135 (*347HW/294SSW) | @Mwrarr | mwrarr.wordpress.com
  17. I am 3 weeks post-op & have lost a total of 11 lbs since DOS. When I weighed this morning I had gained 2 lbs. What can I do to get this weight headed in the loser's direction & not gain any? I must be doing something wrong. I thought the weight was easier to lose in the beginning?
  18. I have had this problem, it can be from water weight gain, regular weight gain or irritation of the band area due to reflux - or at least this is what I was told by my physician.
  19. I do not drink thru a straw, I take my prilosec without fail and I was doing so so so good up until now! I hope this is just really bad gas? I hope someone else has had something similar and I'm just worrying for no reason. I am using the restroom fine, drinking fine, not dealing with hunger issues, have even felt more energy. I just don't understand what this is and how I can fix it. Maybe I just needed to vent, maybe I'm pmsing really bad as I'm due to start this week and this is my first period since surgery? I'm on the pill, and I'm very regulated. I'm just really uncomfortable and trying not to work myself up. I had the lapband since 2007 until my revision and this past year was horrible for me with weight gain and vomiting and even constant nausea the three months prior to my revision. I have been so happy to be rid of the nausea, now this. What can I do to try to alleviate gas, so I can see if that's what this is? It just doesn't feel like gas would, at least before. I am just so dang bloated up.

    Wow U Eat That!?

Perhaps a counselor would help. food addiction is very real and very powerful. There is plenty to "fear", like weight gain, band slips, and health issues. But I don't think fear will help you. Addiction isn't rational and fear rarely plays a role in it. Just like a crack addict knows it can kill them, the fear of death isn't strong enough to tame the addiction. Food addiction is no different. Find a good counselor that deals with addiction, I really think it would help a lot.
  21. Hello everyone!! Im new to vs talk so still trying to get the hang of how everything works. Here is my story: I'm 24 and I live in Waco, TX I've been overweight since I was little and slowly have been packing on the lbs. Im not confident with my body and it's time for a change. I've done all the fad diets, WW, Phentermine, weigh in with "diet" doctors & the gym religiously for years straight. I lost weight with Phetermine, but once i stopped taking it i immediately gained all of my weight back. I'm done with all these attempts at losing weight it's time to GET SERIOUS. I tried to get approved for lapband 1 or 2 years ago but didnt weigh enough for my insurance to cover it and i didnt have any co-morbidities. So i pretty much gave up after a year or so and 2 ectopic pregnancies and a lot of weight gain later i decided to give it another try. This time though i did my research and decided that lapband wasn't for me... I really looked into all the other options and came up with VSG. I went back into Dr. Kim's office (colleyville, tx) and weighed in and was immediately qualified to schedule my 6 months of weigh in's and NUT appointments!!! I have finished all of my 6 monthly weigh ins and NUT appointments. Dr. Kim's office sent off all my info to the insurance company either last thursday or friday.... and i am so anxious to hear back I am a little nervous because i wasn't so great on my 6 months of eating healthy. I did gain a few lbs and am not sure how picky my insurance company is... i know i know i should have been eating better and taking this more seriously, but life happens and all the stress that comes along with it. I just dont want to get denied because this is something that I really want. I want to be happier and healthier. Also, how long does it take to get approved? My surgeons office said 2-4 weeks which is long to wait and wonder but i've heard of other people finding out in 5 days.???? Does anyone have NALC insurance? a part of CIGNA (FEDS) and if so how hard/easy was it to get approved? Tell me your stories. Krysti

    Pregnant And Overwhelmed!

Congrats on your pregnancy! I had a band baby back in 2011, and he is now a 30lbs, happy healthy 15 month old boy. I want to be honest with you, because I know that is what you're looking for as well as support, that type of weight gain this early on in your pregnancy is a little much. The time where you should be gaining more weight is at the end of your 2nd trimester beginning your 3rd. I had to have most of my Fluid removed around the same time you did in my pregnancy, because I felt "stuck" every time I ate and I ended up losing 10lbs in my 1st trimester. After my band was loosened I started eating more until I found I had gained back 52lbs. There is nothing wrong with fulfilling your cravings, but do it in the same manner you would with your band. And if you excercsie regularly now, you can keep it up! I do want to say that its great that you did identify that you felt something was wrong with your band and how you felt, I do know a few people who didnt and really ended up making themselves quite sick for half of their pregnancies. Good luck to you and I wish you a happy, healthy pregnancy!!!
  23. I was sleeved on 10/9 and during the 1st 2 weeks lost 18 lbs. When I went on puréed foods I stalled for 5 days and now I've gained 2 lbs. I started to add unflavored protein powder to my food and wonder if this is the cause. This is so frustrating to go thru all this to not only not lose but to gain so soon. And please don't bother with the "you lost 18 you should be so proud" remarks. Something is amiss with my surgery. I've never read about anyone gaining so soon. I follow the diet and portion and only drink water and 0 cal drinks.
  24. I'm thankful that due to my sleeve journey I discovered I have severe sleep apnea! Restless leg syndrome, tired all day (over-caffeinated to compensate!), weight gain, etc. all the symptoms were there! My study was a horror-show! I selected a sleep clinic right in my small town (weird, never knew what the red door on main street went to...now I know!) Only one staff member there all night (scary!). There was another patient who arrived when I did so I waited from 10:30 pm until 11:30 for him to hook me up (meanwhile I had to be at work at 7 am -times a tickin'!) The TV was broken, whaa! Finally fell asleep only to need to use the restroom 50 times! I was told to use the TV remote to "bang on the side table" if I needed help! Hello-are you kidding me?!? No intercom. Just bang and yell in the middle of the night! I was so creeped out by the place, by the tech. Everything! I felt like I was in the next installlment of Saw-so scared! Results were horrendous! Guess what? They need me to do another study! Nooooooooo!!! This almost caused me to cancel my sleeve! I refused to go to that so-called center again so I had to change pulmonilogists-reschedule a consultation then had my 2nd study done at the sleep center in the hospital where my Bariatric surgeon's office is too. Where I should have gone in the first place, but tried to cut corners! PS-I hate using my CPAP machine! I go to bed with it on, but get claustrophobic and rip it off my face during the night! I have no idea how long I use it, but I know for sure it's not the 4 hour minimum! It dries out my sinuses and mouth soooo bad! I can only hope my weight loss reverses it sooner than later!
  25. Oh my gosh, thank you so much for sharing what people don't see when we say "we can't stand our bodies". So easy to hide behind clothes. You are an inspiration to me. I am new on here and so thankful I found it. I have learned more in one week about the band and others struggles then in the last 2 years of being banded. I felt so alone until now. There are thousands of you struggling and celebrating too. I just felt like I found a wealth of friends. I am going through a difficult time with my port revision and weight gain to lack of "the right fill". This site just may have given me a new reason to continue with the band. I was ready to tell the doctor to remove it because he is not listening to me. When you tell your doctor the awful pain you are feeling and the weight I have gained back you would think there would be a red flag!! CT Scan on Monday. Finally maybe some answers. I may not know you, but I sure am proud of you and you have just given me hope again. Thank you for being so brave and honest...we all need a bit of that sometimes. Please keep posting....
