Typical 1 week loss?
liannatx replied to vickylyn1973's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Depends on start weight, BMI, age, sex, etc... Weightloss numbers will vary. I gained 6-7 lbs from fluids and took a few days to lose that... I ended up losing 6 lbs the first week and 6 the next week, so I lost 12 lbs in the first two weeks. -
I just got home, my husband is eating carls jr and my parent ordered pizza... I swear im so mad I can't eat, in on the verge of tears. Its not just the fact that I can't eat...but how come they can eat whatever and not gain like me... !? Its not fair. But let me tell them how I really feel or even cry and I look like I'm that addicted to food. Srry just venting

I had my surgery on the 29th October. Im feeling so great and feel light. Best advice is to walk and walk in hospital, to get rid of gas, my only discomfort at start. I weighted 101kg and am now on day 3 and weight 96kg. Its good to weight once a week, so thats my goal mark. Drinking my fluids sip by sip, and vitamins, fiber in my fluids. Looking foward to seeing the progress, so exciting Sent from my SM-A205YN using BariatricPal mobile app

Should I be concerned about calories this early?
Recycled replied to Tate777's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Funny thing. I lost alot the first week and then in week two I stalled. I ate less, (400cal.) drank more, added more Protein and the scale didn't budge. I read stuff on here and some said eat more calories. Sounded unlikely, but I was discouraged anyway. So I had to work hard to eat more than twice the calories, logged in with fitness pal and noticed how with my biking and walking I was still only netting about 800 a day even with eating so much. Low and behold, instead of gaining like I thought, the scale went down. Go figure. Something to do with starvation mode when you eat too little. Who would have thought I'd actually have to work at eating MORE to lose more. Whatever the reasoning, I'm gonna follow more of what is suggested and less of what I think should work. I don't know why I'm surprised.....my way of eating never worked for me before, so I will be relearning everything since WLS, -
Just hit 101lbs at 9months post op and feeling darn good about it. Doctors say i'll only lose 30% from surgery and that will be 105lbs so I have gone back to weight watchers to lose another 50lbs to bring me down to onederland. Has anyone else have to go back to old diets to make it work?? Also, im scared im stretching my stomach. I can eat quite a bit now. Looking for people feeling and experiencing the same thing Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App

Dr. Jay is great! He's one of the nicest guys I've ever met. So far, I've lost more weight than any of this other patients. I'm a bit competitve, I guess. Well, my close to Dallas would be McKinney. And I'm not sure what stylin is but I'd be up for whichever. It's just something I promised myself that I'd do and man, I really want to. How's your wife doing with her band? I bet she feels the same way as I do about Dr. Jay. Take care and let me know where y'all live.

For those who can tolerate everything and no loss of appetite
thatch replied to jasmineinmymind's topic in General Weight Loss Surgery Discussions
I had this, and never really lost my hunger. It's why I'm only down 67 pounds instead of 100 at 8 months out. I got a wake up call when I didn't lose weight at all for several months and I had to start being much stricter. I weigh and track everything I put in my mouth, I don't eat gluten or processed foods, I drink at least 70 oz. of water daily, I eat sugar once in a blue moon (usually a piece of dark chocolate) and I exercise like a fiend. All to make up for those months when the weight should have been falling off of me but I was eating whatever I wanted. It's definitely not too late for you at 2.5 months out. Just go back to your plan, eat slowly, track your calories, and don't chase fullness. We should only be eating until we're satisfied, if we eat to fullness we've already eaten too much. You got this! -
Sounds like he feels that he is loosing control over you, since your weight loss only makes you more independent and self secure; and less reliant on his being there. I am not a shrink, but marriage counseling might be in order?

The whole process was fairly quick. I started late Aug and received the surgery late Oct. My insurance was approved in three days. The process went fairly quick maybe a little too quick for me it was surreal. They weren't too strick on pre weight loss and I didn't need to do the liquid diet. -
Hi All, I have not posted here in forever. I was banded in February 2007. I have made the decision to have my Lap Band removed. I cannot handle it anymore. I am tired of the horrific side effects of vomitting and pain. I think I have vomitted everyday for the last three years. I am tired of the fill and unfill game. I also have progressive Multiple Sclerosis, and I have been struggling with the disease. I have recently been hospitalized for it. I cannot fight a battle on two fronts. The side effects of the band, and the progression of my MS, and the battle that is MS. The Lap Band. I looked gaunt and awful when I had lost 50 kilos. My hair fell out, I looked like a deflated balloon. I hated how my body looked. I have gained the weight back, and it has all filled out again, and I feel happy with how it looks. I feel very beautiful and feminine. I think the medical profession glosses over the psychological effects all the changes the Lap Band can have on your life. Disclaimer this is my experience of life with the band. I am speaking only for myself, and giving my own opinions. There is no easy answer. I now personally do not believe the Lap Band is the answer either. I also believe it to be possibly dangerous in the long term. My Aunt had hers removed in emergency surgery a month ago. I also think the band works well in the short term, say the first two years, but it becomes less effective after that. I have decided to love myself as I am, be healthy in the body that I have, and to live my life for now, and not for the magical day that I look a certain way that society perceives that I must as a woman. I am a beautiful woman, right now and as I am. I am not buying the propeganda anymore. With that said I do wish everybody else well who has the band, or is to be banded. I am seeing my surgeon this Thursday, and I will ask him to take it out. My body, my choice. I am at peace with myself and who I am. Best Wishes Susannah

Then I would say you are ready. The sleeve can be a wonderful thing. I was like you in that I would lose weight and fast but would always just gain it back. For me the sleeve has allowed me to lose more than I ever did on my own as well as maintain the lose. It is a bumpy road non the less. Good luck to you and welcome to the forum!

My BMI was too low also, I was on med for BP than Dr added a 2nd. Also I have arthritis in both knees, Eventually some day may have to be replaced. My Orthopedic Dr sent a letter also. Short blunt, (Loose weight or he may be in a wheel Chair) I have been working out since the Band and have a tons of backup evidence of compliance which many people do not have after 8 years. So if BMI is low they want to see some co-morbidity factors. And that you have done your part. But it comes down to the person reviewing you case,

Congratulations on your GREAT weight loss! I'm so happy that you're feeling so good. Believe it or not, your kids will love you just the same - heavy or thin. My kids are now 23 and 20. One's complimented me on my weight loss, the oldest hasn't even noticed. But I feel so much better and have so much more energy. Best of luck to you!

How many Calories do you eat?
Jachut replied to mellabella78's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I'm female, 42, 5ft 10, very active (run or do boot campe 5 x per week, work as a teacher, on my feet all day) and I ate around 1500 a day to lose. I think you might be UNDER eating, but really, you've lost a LOT and it does slow down and become very stop start. Just keep at it and eventually it will start coming off again. It took me an entire year to lose the last 10lb. I guess I could have eaten less, but I was happy enough at the higher weight, and I'm very active and now I can eat whatever I want without gaining so I'm really glad that I've obviously preserved lean body mass and have a healthy metabolism. -
I love my DS. The recovery wasn't bad at all. I was able to run errands and take care of my family about two weeks after surgery. I've been losing weight consistently. Couldn't do it on my own. I didn't do a pre-op diet. I keep my carbs to 70 gr a day and make protein my top priority when making food choices (90 gr a day). I also sip on water all day long. It's very important you stay on top of your daily vitamins, due to the malabsorption component of the DS. For me, I wanted a surgery that had the best long-term results statistically. I revised from a band originally because the band just didn't do it for me and I didn't want to fail again. I had the traditional DS with two anastomoses, but my common channel is one and a half times longer than the typical DS, due to my lower starting BMI. As a result, I do not have bathroom or gas issues like other DS patients.

Hi..I have to agree with what they are saying here...follow the eating plan....the band is a tool for you to use...you have to folllow the guide lines to get it to work....it is possible to eat around it....if you have come as far to get banded you are determined to lose weight, so follow what the dr says and it will work.. best of luck!!!
