Looking forward to a smaller me

Wednesday I received the pre-approval as a good candidate for a lap band from Dr Weaver in Memphis, TN. Today I saw my PCP doctor and she faxed copies of my medical record to Dr. Weaver. She is typing up a formal referral letter for insurance purposes. She is also referring me for an Upper-GI as requested by Dr. Weaver. I will look for my psychologist this week to have my evaluation and MMPI completed. Hopefully in the next 2 weeks I will have what I needed sent to Dr. Weaver so I can make an appointment to see the Nutritionist and Dr Weaver. Here I go...to join the Banders Club. bad day yesterday...

It is normal to be extra sensitive right after surgery. That happened to me too, artificial sweetners were the worst. I think the Protein soups were the best bet for me, and milk. Did your surgeon send you home w/soups? You can buy them on line. I loved unjury unflavored and the Soup mix. It takes about a week to get it though. Maybe you can call the surgeon's nutritionist for advice. They suggested I drink milk, if I couldn't tolerate anything else. And, she also suggested that most patients right out of surgery tolerated the warm soups/broth best. Right now, the most important thing is to get in adequate hydration and protein. Most of us have struggled with this. Even now, when I cheat and eat something from the fast food restaurants, it really does make me nauseated, the cheap ingredients, high fructose syrups, etc. Our stomachs are much more sensitive now. Keep us posted.

    bad day yesterday...

Hey there Jenn, I am 4 months post-op and I totally understand what you are going through. The most important thing is to breath and be patient. It is really easy to freak out early on. Your body is going through some major changes and your "lizard brain" (the instinctual part of yourself) is under the impression you are injured and starving to death. Just remember that your conscious part is in control and its good to acknowledge the feelings of frustration and everything, but to just breathe and try to be zen about everything. I had extreme sensitivity to smells, tastes etc. I craved Soups and flavors I never did before, and couldn't stand other smells that I normally loved. You just need to go slow, sip your fluids. Go for some sugar-free flavor packs from the grocery store, and sugar-free jello. The ASS (Ahhh . . .So Sweet) effect wears off some after a couple months, but is still there for me to a certain extent. Think of it as a weight-loss aid, keeping you away from empty calories. The important thing is to keep hydrated, and to take small sips as often as you can stand them. My best advice is to make sure you walk. I walked twice a day during recovery, in the morning and evening. Bring a friend at first till you know your strength, as you can tire quickly. Walking helps your body process all of the toxins in your system and you will recover faster from that than anything. Also, remember that rapid weight loss flushes all the fat-soluble toxins out of your system, so it can be hard on your kidneys. Walk, water and waiting, that's what the first 2 weeks are all about. I hope that helped!

    Is this normal

One word: NORMAL! Sparkling, check out the Food Stages thread under the Foods Forum. You should get some good ideas for other foods to eat/drink at this stage post-op. Remember to follow YOUR docs orders for foods, though. If your doc says no mushies at this point, please wait. You need to heal. Don't eat anything that causes your stomach to move alot. Find your calories with liquids and you will feel better. Egg Drop Soup was a big hit with me. Most docs don't give fills for the first 6 weeks, and as you are doing liquids anyway, you don't need one. A fill will restrict well-chewed foods, and you aren't there yet because you are healing right now. Hang in there. It does get better!!!!

    50 Baby!

In 12 weeks, I've hit my first big goal of losing 50 lbs! It has been a battle of discipline, but soooo worth it. After getting bloodwork done last week, Dr. says I'm not diabetic anymore and my blood pressure is normal! Also, I have stopped snoring, so I'm not using my CPAP regularly which has made me use less Ambien . Even with the pain, struggle, and stalls, I have to say it was ALL worth it. My journey is not over, and the next 25 lbs will be tough...but not impossible. Stay strong, stay focused, and stay positive!

    7 days post op!

Holy cow you guys, that's great. I'm 3.5 weeks post-op and still feeling a lot of pain in my abdomin. I was just thinking how hard it would be if I'd had to go back to work after 2 weeks! Good on ya, and may as well go back to work if you're feeling that good. Just be sure to take it slow!
  7. Is it to good to be true. I have not had any complications or been tired at all. I feel like it is too good to be true. At seven days post op I'm getting in 50 ounces of Water daily and about 55 grams of Protein daily totaling about 300 calories. I am NOT tired at all throughout the day. I just wonder if it is going to catch up with me. I had originally planned to take two weeks off of work. But now that I feel great I'm going to go back to work after 1 week off.

    7 days post op!

Lucky dog. I had a slower, more painful recovery. My lapband was easy peasy 4 yrs ago compared to the sleeve. I'm now 3 1/2 weeks out and feeling 100%. it took about 2 weeks to not wake up feeling like I was hit by a bus. Count your blessings! Good luck!
  9. :help: :help: - I am really struggling on the carb cravings - cookies, candy, chips, potatoes. I need some suggestions. I am trying to eat more protein this week but I still want carbs, and if i eat just 1 bite I want more and more and more. I have good restriction but as we know cookies, chips and most candy just goes on through. Please help!!!!
  10. Hi everyone. I am so glad to have found this group. It appears to be a wonderful support and information system. I am a 34 year old, wife and mother to four boys (ages 4,5,9,10. The oldest two have autism). I have been over weight all my life, but my health has really went down hill since the birth of my last child. I have been interested in weight loss surgery for several years now, but because of a lack of insurance, it was not a possibility for me. In June of this year, my husband joined the Toyota production team here in Mississippi and we got insurance on day one. I began pursuing my options very soon thereafter. I have finished all of my pre-surgery testing: weight management visits, EGD, stress-test, colonoscopy, sleep study and psych eval. My appointment to see the surgeon again and to submit everything to the insurance company is this Monday, Oct. 24. It will take up to four weeks to get a surgery date after that. I will keep y'all posted. I have already met my max out of pocket for this year, so this should not cost me anything. Everyone wish me luck! :0)

Sleeve made too big 1st now having complications

give it time. i had a ton of adhesions removed from my stomach, pancreas, and spleen from 10 years ago (unknown case of pancreatitis after my gall bladder removal) this caused a ton of swelling in my stomach. i couldnt keep anything down for almost 4 weeks. my stomach wasnt squeezing due to the swelling. water and shakes went in. nothing went out. extreme nausea, pain, bloating and then everything would come back up. surgeon told me to be patient. give it time. he was right. it was 2-3 weeks longer recover time for me. as long as you are hydrated, and your pain is controlled, rest and heal. if you are in intolerable pain or cant get enough fluids in, call your surgeon. (or cant keep anything down or have terrible nausea... i needed 3 nausea meds!)
  12. My fills usually lasted about 3 or 4 weeks, hence I was getting fills once a month for about 6 months. Then at 9 mos. my fill lasted and lasted so I haven't gotten a fill for the last 3 months. But realize everyone is VERY different. This has just been my experience.
  13. Hello! Weeks 3-6 I lost 3 lbs. per week. Weeks 7 and 8 , a total of 1.5. Is this a normal time for a stall? Anyone else experienced this? I have been working out and may have a nibble here and there, but not enought to account for 1.5 lbs lost compared to a normal of 6 in two week time frame. Help!

    January Challenge

hahaha! Good question after the holidays! I was lucky enough to not gain, but didn't lose, either! So my goal is to get back to eating three healthy meals a day (high protein, low calories) and oh, lose some more! It's still an awesome journey, and this website and on-going thought-provoking topics like yours has kept me going my whole journey. Continued good luck to us!

    Suggestions when hitting a plateau?

For me, it's exercise that has always worked. Usually, I pop in my Leslie Sansone 4 mile Walk tape and get going. If I do that every morning (at least 4x/week)... that usually solves the problem. Netflix has a surprising assortment of workout DVDs... so if you have Netflix, it's a great way to check some out. Also, Collage Video has video preview clips on their site.... and great reviews. www.collagevideo.com Another option is to figure out what you'd pay for a fill (for me, it's usually about $300 -$350) and invest that money in some personal training sessions at a gym (if you belong)... or a gym membership. Also, look at what you're eating... write it down... just so you can see if you're maybe eating too much of some foods, too little of others. Also see when you're eating... how many meals... etc. I always did the best with 6 mini-meals vs. 3 big (well Bandster big) ones.

    No Pre-OP Diet

My doctor doesn't require a pre-op diet either. I've talked to a couple of people who have used him and they've said that they had no problems. I think some doctors put their patients on a pre-op diet to shrink the liver. I was a little concerned about this as well, but I'm just doing my own thing and probably going on liquids on my own a week before surgery. Hope this helps a bit.
  17. I had an infection about nine days post-op. It was a Saturday so I called my doctor and he phoned in a prescription to the pharmacy. Due to a mixup at th pharmacy, I didn't get the pills until Monday evening. I took them for a week and the infection went away and the incision healed completely. Yours must have been a fast-growing infection to required emergency care! My doctor told me that if mine didn't respond to the antibiotics, he would lance and drain it but that wasn't necessary. I hope yours clears up and doesn't require removal of the port!
  18. my infection seems to be getting better today. after i had the incision cut back open yesterday and since it started draining it feels better. i have to go to the doctor every day this week to have it checked and my doctor is suppose to see it on thursday if she can fit me in (its her first day back since last wednesday) it is her OR day at the hospital. hopefully i dont need to remove my port that would suck. but seeming how the infection is getting better im sure the port will be ok left alone. andrea

    Pain on left

I experienced the same pain and described it as the feeling you got as a kid when you ran hard and got winded and my parents called it a "stitch in your side". On my 2 Week followup I asked About it. Doc said that they stitched my new tummy to a muscle and what I was feeling was the tug on the muscle, not my stomach. 21. I take in the morning, but only twice a week.
  22. No I am definitely not miscalculating calories. I am as strict as they come with not only my portion sizes but my calories and Protein intake as well. I was banded 9 weeks ago and have lost 21lbs to date. I called my doctor's office yesterday and she told me that I am right on track with my weight loss. She said that the average weight loss is 1 - 2 lbs per week and right now I am above that. I guess I just get anxious and want it all off immediately and I have to realize it is going to take time, just as it did for me to put the weight on. I just didn't know if there was a correlation between fills and weight loss because so many people on here say they didn't "really start seeing the weight fall off" until after 3 or 4 fills. Thank you all for your comments and posts.
  23. I have been struggling really bad this last well and all I've gotten is love and helpfulness ( is that a word) from people. im not yet sleeved and need to learn to only weigh myself once a week but im learning.

    Once Again I Need Advice

What exactly are you eating? 2 weeks out. Damn 600 calories. I was lucky to get in 300 calories. Watch your sodium and carbs. Keep your sodium at a minimum. Never go over 1000mg if you can help it. Carbs 45 seems to be my sweet spot I know you cant eat anything yet but I enclosed some pics of my daily diet and nutritional info so you could see.
