    What was the deciding factor?

Hi, Chelsea I wish my nutritionist had told me that I have the sleeve and my reflux is extremely bad since I've been sleeved. Hi, Chelsea I wish my nutritionist had told me that I have the sleeve and my reflux is extremely bad since I've been sleeved. So make sure you ponder on which procedure you want because now I'm in the process of trying to have a revision done from the sleeve to the bypass. I wish I had been informed...
  2. I am positive I am missing something here, lol. I registered at BariatricPal 7 years ago when I was getting a lap band. I am getting ready for revision to gastric bypass, but every time I try to search for something I get defaulted to the lap band forums. Is there a way to set preference? You would think I had never been on a forum before. Sheesh!
  3. I was also sleeved December 13, 2012 and reached my goal weight before I was revised to the RNY on August 16th for GERD/reflux reasons. My surgery weight was 218.2 and my goal weight was 145 but I was 140 when I had my RNY surgery in August. Since then I am 133. The sleeve was great for me weight-wise, but I did have several complications so as long as you go into it knowing that there are risks no matter which route you choose, and research, research, research, and trust your surgeon completely, you will do great. Any time I can answer any other questions for you, let me know. I wish you well! Niki
  4. My mornings are the worst. Each morning I wake up feeling sick to my stomach. Is this normal? Did anyone else feel this? I had my surgery Feb. 4, 2014 to remove my slipped lapband and had a revision to a sleeve. Thanks!

    Stretched Pouch

I had an egd done about 2 1/2 years after my sleeve and was told it was stretched. I suspect it stretched about a year post op as that's when I stopped losing weight and noticed I could eat more than before. I just had a revision to mini bypass and I'm now 5 days post op. After my sleeve stretched I had acid reflux and never could lose any more and then I gained about 30 pounds.

    Help! Advice needed

I too initially went to my first appointment with the band in mind. I have Kaiser, and the facility I went to will no longer do the band. The surgeons said they were doing more revisions than initial surgeries. So I went with VSG. I'm so happy I did. I'm almost 7 months out and down about 75 pounds. The side effects I have experienced are hair loss, gall bladder removal, and I have experienced dumping syndrome twice. But I wouldn't change a thing. My hair will grow back, gall bladder removal is common with large loss of weight regardless of how the weight was lost. And the dumping syndrome is all it's cracked up to be.... So I will not cheat with a cupcake or sliver of cheesecake. Those will never be my normal again. All in all, it's a great deterrent.... Other than that, my BMI is less than 27, I can walk for miles, uphill. I can dance with my granddaughters, run if I want to, climb fences, hike long distances, and jump rope. Other complications... I don't know how to shop for clothing. I don't know what sizes to try on, I don't know what my style is other than putting it on and hoping it hangs right to cover the rolls.... But the high heeled boots I got for Christmas are a good start! It's also much less expensive to go on date night with the hubby. Hot tea at dinner is considerably less expensive than the good Chardonnay. And a shrimp appetizer becomes your whole dinner. Not a day goes by that I don't celebrate having done this. I would recommend it to anyone who isn't afraid of a little hard work, commitment, and determination.
  8. Hello, I am scheduled with Dr. Neil Floch on August 27th for a band to sleeve revision!!!!

    port tilt

I'm in the same boat as you! Surgeon tried for about an hour with fluoro to give me my first fill and still couldn't get it. They're going to try again in a month and if it doesn't work we'll talk about a port revision surgery.
  10. What an amazing time to reflect on what your son's life would be like if YOU were the one mauled, (by obesity and related diseases.) You want to be there for him, so stay the course. My 27 year old daughter recently cried and asked me, "Mommy, don't you love us enough to get healthier so that you don't die before you have grandchildren?" OUCH! So, on the 23 of April I am having a revision surgery and changing from my lapband to a sleeve. Stay the course, stay the course.

    Only Lost.... ?

THANK YOU! I don't understand the theory that now you've had surgery, your new normal should be to lose 5-10lbs a day! Oh and we must be doing something wrong if we're not!!! And these are bariatric people talking like this! Not clueless family, friends and acquaintances!!!! To be honest, I'm in a very different place than most people. I never thought I'd be offered a revision. I expected to have to deal with my band the way it was and just do the best I could to NOT gain. I never thought I'd ever lose weight again. I was trying to be happy with were I was at. So, no, I don't get where people are coming from when they are upset with their weight losses. I try to be positive and let people know how wonderfully well they are doing and support some of that process. I don't know what is in another person's head or where they are in their own daily lives.
  12. Hi All, Has anyone had a revision surgery done at TUFTS hosptial in Boston, MA? If so, what was your process like? Did it take a while for you to get a surgery date scheduled? I have my first appointment with the surgical fellow at the beginning of April, and I'm hoping to have surgery in June or July. Does this sound like a feasible timeline? I have blue cross and blue shield, so I don't have a specific 6 month waiting period.

    Sleevers Vs Revisioners

I was going to also do the band until I did a lot of research and saw so many band revisions to sleeves. If I'm going to go under, I'd rather do it just once. VSG seems easier with less complications. I'm really glad I didn't get the band.
  14. Okay post 2 days revision I weigh in at 246 I will keep u posted on my journey. My throat is very sore and I was only able to consume about 2 ounce of liquids today it feels sort of strange when it hit my stomach it's cramps a little and it stops. Will this get better? And was anyone sent home with a plastic bag that is draining fluid time one week post surgery?
  15. Just felt like posting my woe. My surgery for revision was for tomorrow but since I am sick it got postponed until the 30th. I guess I am happy I won't be coughing and have a sore throat during recovery, but this still sucks. Also I will be in full on stomach mode during Christmas on a liquid diet. I would have been on liquids anyways but at least with the motivation of sudden death to curb my appetite.....lol.....but seriously. Also, I did a whole pre op day of labs and ekg classes yada yada.....that were for nothing. Well, I hope at least some of the tests are still good until the 30th....Maybe?? Anyways woe is me. Shed a tear for my Christmas, but I guess I will literally be starting the New year on a good path now. End of my pity party. Sent from my SM-J700P using the BariatricPal App
  16. There are many revision people here. I actually did great with my band while it was working, but once it slipped and I was never able to keep a fill in it I gradually gained back every pound... I knew that I needed some help to lose and keep off the weight. I find the Sleeve to be everything I wanted, and I think you will be very happy with your decision. Search the forums and you can probably find numerous threads on recovery and results after revision! Good luck!
  17. So update on the whole process: After speaking with the Doctor and her Medical assistants we decided to go ahead and submit the claim (they never had to deal with submitting paperwork for a revision; only brand new patients). According to my Ins. for revisions a claim only needs the documentation showing that the band malfunctioned and not because of the patient. So we went ahead and did that with out submitting all the goodies that is normally required like 8 week weight loss and 5 year history and psych eval and they DENIED IT! Which believe it or not is GOOD news because they came back and said they are not requiring the 5 year morbid obesity requirement because of the documentation for the emergency removal. Of course my doctor did have to go to bat for me. She had to have a peer-to-peer review to justify the medical necessity. Got the call from my doc yesterday stating all I need now to get my claim approved is 8 week commercially recognized weight lost program and pysch eval. I'm kinda stoked about it and in shock that I can forgo the 5 year proof. Just need to keep my fingers crossed and good vibes until I get the surgery. Side note: Determination and persistence pays off. This was really uncharted waters for my doctors office. Be proactive and call the ins company, get the medical coverage guidelines, basically do their job along side them. Something could go missed. In my case the girls at the office had the wrong medical coverage guideline. That made the difference in the type of surgery I was covered for. Do your homework and also follow up with the insurance company after a pre cert or claim is filed.
  18. Hi Janex43, i had my revision from band to sleeve done last Oct. i know exactly what you mean with regards to the band. My life pre sleeve was non existent as i was just simply too embarrassed to go out to eat and try and eat something when i knew that id be disrupting everyone by rushing off to the bathroom. There wasn't a day that went by without me hurling up some food. Post sleeve it has been a learning curve, don't get me wrong, i have had to rush to the bathroom, but that is because i was trying to work out what my sleeve would accept and its not anywhere near as bad as the band! I Love, Love, Love my sleeve!! I cannot eat meat or dairy, i cannot eat corn in any form and i now have GERD, but put all these small things aside, i can go out and have dinner with friends and family - i just now select foods that are vegetarian or seafood! I just finally feel normal! I wish you all the best with your weight loss journey xox
  19. I got my lap band 10 years ago and it has been a nightmare. I have never been able to have a fill and have gained a ton of weight since I got it! I am going to get a revision with Dr. Jose Rodriguez in Juarez because he did my lap band and I figured that he would be the best person to get it out of there, and he is very experienced also. I dont have a date yet, but I am looking at June. I wish it could be tomorrow!!! My questions is, do you still get stuck with the sleeve? I am so tired of having to run to the bathroom when I get stuck. Plus its so random! Any info would be great!

    FOOD RANTING

For what it's worth, when I started having heartburn, here's what my surgeon told me - I was already on Pepcid 2x a day as a preventative. He told me to do a round of omeprazol on top of the Pepcid, and then take Tums as needed. For me, that got my heartburn under control. My acid still feels a little out of control but it's getting there. I hear it settles down after 6 or so months. See how your body changes - way down the road, there's always the option for a revision to bypass to eliminate the problem should it be necessary, but hopefully it won't be! My surgeon's office also told me to make sure I'm drinking all my water for the day, cause the stomach continues producing acid, and if there's nothing in your stomach to mix with it, it can cause problems - hence the sage wisdom of sip, sip, sip!
  21. The surgical group I work with routinely uses a disposable 36fr bougie. However on complicated cases they have been known to use an endoscope instead of a bougie as it provides direct visualization. Is it common, no. But it's not unheard of. Of course this is very often on revisions or patients who have had/have a lap band in at the time of their procedure
  22. I am scheduled for 6/17 to have my band removed and revision to VSG. I am only about 15 lbs from my goal and I'm wondering, did any of you who only had a little to lose when being revised, have issues with hair loss? I lost so much hair from about months 4 through 8 with my band and that was pretty much during the time I lost most of my weight. I am praying that I dont have to go through that again! Thanks in advance!

    Had revision yesterday!

Congrats Ginger and thanks for sharing. I had my revision on 7/25. I've had no issues with GERD. My doctor has me on Prilosec, 40mg for the next couple of months. Stomach is still sore and swollen, but i get my staples out on Monday so that's a plus (i think [emoji3]). So far I've lost 20lbs, YEAH!! WELCOME TO THE RNY SIDE!! @@dhrguru Ketosis is something I did not think about! I woke up this morning with the worst taste in my mouth and couldn't figure out for the life of me what the heck it was - I brushed my teeth before bed! Ketosis explains it! Thank you for bringing that to my attention @@kevmasci Hi! Welcome to BP and good luck on your revision! I don't know if you're allowed pudding on your diet, but sugar free rice pudding (Jell-O Brand) saves me on my pre-op diet! I though it would be gross but I was dead wrong and it has been one of my favorite things about this diet, and the unsweetened applesauce! My surgery is next week and I am full of nerves, but I know that the rewards outweigh the risks so I start thinking positive and remind myself that I'm choosing to save my life and I calm down. I trust my surgeon, I trust his staff and I know I'm going to be ok. Keep your head up and know that we're all here for you xo
