  1. Hello, I am planning to have a mini gastric bypass done in early march. I had a sleeve done 3 years ago and lost 60 lbs but have gained 30 lbs back. I am 5'0 and 197. Has anyone ever revised to the mini? Can you please give me feedback. Good and bad is all welcome. Thanks so much.

    Close to goal?

Haven’t been on here lately. I was banded in 09. Revised to sleeve in May. I have bee heavy all my life. High was 330. Low with band 230. Sleeved at 250. My goal was 225. Now at 210. My nutritionist, dr and trainer All told me to no longer try to loose weight. Just eat well, continue to exercise, tone and build more muscle and see where my weight settles out. They even said they would work with me if I loose too much. This is so very foreign for me. I’m 6 ft tall and now ware 34-36?slim fit pants. Large or xl(slim) shirts. I still think I’m heavy. Trying to get a handle on this. Know it’s a good problem to have. How did you handle it
  3. I also had sleeve surgery in 2014 and then revised to RYN in September of this year. I had severe GERD and it was causing regular vomiting. I was close to goal when I had my revision and so weight loss wasn't my primary goal, but I have lost some weight since my revision and anticipate being at goal in the next couple of months. I feel so much better without the GERD and am so happy I had a revision!
  4. Hi and welcome! I'm sorry to hear about the regain. I hear good things about SIPS, though. (I am 7 months postop with a sleeve). In general, revisions don't pack the same punch as a virgin procedure, so you may notice slower weight loss than last time. But if you stick to your program, it'll come off. I had the opportunity to speak with a DS patient who was 5 years out of surgery. She had lost 1/2 her excess weight, then stopped losing for a couple years. She was following the plan, but didn't understand why the weight loss stopped. An external influence came along, and got her to count her calories. She was eating over 2500 calories in meat, fat, and veggies. Too many calories! So she cut them down, and started losing again. Hit goal less than a year later. These surgeries work (partly.. and I daresay mostly) because we eat so few calories postop. The couple instances I've heard where the patient ate maintenance-level calories right after surgery... the patients didn't lose any weight! Hopefully someone with a SIPS will be along soon. Good luck!
  5. Several individuals on this site have revisions from sleeve to RNY gastric bypass. The main motivator was severe acid reflux (Gerd) which occurs in sleeve patients but not generally in gastric bypass patients.
  6. What made you decide to do that? And did you lose any more weight afterwards? Were there any other major side effects?

    Sleeve Revision

This is interesting. I didn't know a sleeve revision could be done. Sorry this happened. Maybe you are just stalled? Could you have done a sleeve to bypass? What did your surgeon say? Hopefully, the weightloss will start again. Sent from my SAMSUNG-SM-G900A using BariatricPal mobile app
  8. Hi everyone, Has anyone on here had a sleeve revision? I had a sleeve almost 7 years ago my highest weight was 356lbs went down to 169 as my lowest and although I have to admit that I didn't quite loose it the way I was supposed to or: drinking coffee and smoking and working out everyday... my weight after 2 yrs started to creep up. I was still happy even at 185. Long story short I had another child 5 years later and my weight went back up to 224 and after baby went back down to about 210. Anyway two years later I had a sleeve revision on 9/12 day of surgery I was 247 today 5 weeks out I am 227 20lbs in 5 weeks it's not nearly enough. I am so depressed. I don't eat anything more than 800 calories a day sometimes only 5-600 a day I walk i just don't know what I am doing wrong. I feel like I am not where I should be. Anyone with a revision have this issue? I do feel full and I stop eating? So why am I at a two week plateau!! This is very frustrating!!!

    My revision is approved!!

Wow, sorry you had to have that reaction from your mom. But CONGRATS on staying positive and getting your revision approval! Do you have friends and family who are supportive?
  10. Saying prayers. It sucks. Now what everyone doesn't want...duh duh dunnnhhhhhh--yes, that's right! It's time for the "Advice from a Pre-Surgery Newbie" Show, starring? FluffyChix! Ok, so now for some practical advice. You are a medical professional--so you must be aware of this stuff--if not, get to know it! 1. Take baby steps. Begin again. Today. Right now. Only focus on the next bite. Today your one job is to dump the carbonated diet drinks. Dump em baby. Use LaCroix as a sub if you must. 2. Tomorrow or when you feel you can, work on the next step...make your snacks healthy and filling: 2oz of protein, or PB3s, or 2oz of GS apple + 2tbsp peanut butter (I'm presurg and this snack right here fills me for 3 hours). 3. Next step, STOP drinking while eating. You can do this. It's actually the easiest step. Make it the first step if you want!!! 4. Next step, go back to eating protein first with every meal. Follow the baby step meal order: protein, non-starchy veg, high carb bs, dessert. 5. Next step, get rid of all the sugar and carby nonsense. Lose the desserts and high carb nonsense. Dump all the sugar from your diet. Tighten up your daily food intake. REALLY this is the fish or cut bait time. It may take several days...get rid of the CRAP. 6. Go back to planning your meals for 1 day. Weigh and measure everything. All. The. Things. Each day, recommit to weighing and tracking (and planning--don't forget the planning) for that day and that day only. Each day. Every day. Recommit. 7. Start walking every day--just around your house, inside your house if necessary...just 5 minutes if that's all you can do. Work up every day to more. And that's as simple as it gets. Don't eat within 3-4 hours of bedtime. Sleep elevated. Make low acid choices. Chew the crap outta stuff and makes notes on what makes the GERD and your esophagus feel worse. Take your PPIs. Treat yourself kindly and with respect. Congratulate yourself on getting through some serious ****. Congratulate yourself on graduating and improving your life. Go back to basics. Each day plan and log your food. Only focus on taking the very next BEST bite. Don't forget to surrender to your higher power. Read about CBT and food addiction. It's an awesome tool for overeating or eating with abandon. And lastly, don't put off a revision if it's called for with the GERD. Just jump in and get it done. Don't waste any more of your life on this. But you do need to get the overeating/eating off plan stuff together cuz as you know, you can eff any surgery if you're determined to do so. Do OA or Greysheeters. Go to therapy. Just concentrate on changing one thing at a time. Take baby steps and you can turn your life around. This is exactly how I backed into starting my new life on the pre-surgery plan. Before I could even do my plan, I had to slowly and gradually back into it until I had strung together so many successful days that I'd built momentum and resolve. Resolve and commitment grow exponentially with success. The more you see the scale move (or whatever your marker of success may be), the stronger the resolve to stay on plan. Good luck. If I can do this, you can do this. I'm the queen of recidivism. I practically wrote the book on it.

How did you choose your goal weight?

I have revised my goal as I went on. I started with the conservative goal WLS calculators suggested for me based on my highest weight and surgery, which was 160 lbs, then when I hit that, revised to 150 lbs which is the smallest I remember being since puberty, then when I hit that I went to 140 lbs which puts me at a "healthy" BMI, now at nearly 7 months out I've beaten THAT goal, so I'm going with 135, which sits me safely within the healthy BMI range and gives me room for a little regain as can often happen after the honeymoon phase. One thing I DIDN'T do was set a timeline for any of my goals, ie be 160lbs by 4 months out or at my goal weight by 8 months out. So many of the people that do that wind up losing slower than they want and then self-sabotaging. The pace of weight loss is so unpredictable and inconsistent I think putting a deadline on it is setting yourself up for disappointment and failure IMO. As long as I'm following the plan and living a healthy active lifestyle, I'm letting my weight come off at whatever pace it likes. My attitude seems to have worked because I'm losing very steadily!
  12. Two or so days after surgery I was on the treadmill. 0.1 miles the first day, 0.2 the second, 0.3 the third. I just kept adding more. After 7-10 days I started ab work, again very slowly. I still exercise & was on the treadmill this morning. I'm a U.S. Army veteran & being able to move again is one of the best parts of this for me. The weight loss slowed down, stopped, & reversed direction the more alcohol I drank. Proud to say I haven't had any alcohol in more than 10 weeks. I definitely have acid reflux. There are lots of acidic foods I enjoy. Champagne, beer, & even fizzy water like La Croix "repeat" on me. Being a stomach sleeper doesn't help. I'm passively considering a revision, not actively. I reserve the right to change that answer though!

    Tummy tuck quote

I had an extended Tummy Tuck (all the way around minus one inch of skin) Breast Revision to close implant pockets that were too big and upgraded 8 year old implants from Saline to Silicone. The total was $17,500 and worth every penny.
  14. I had a revision from Lap-Band to Roux-en-Y Gastric Bypass on September 25, 2017. I had the Lap-Band surgery in 2009 and at first it was successful. Over time I begin to have issues with my band causing severe reflux and I battled pneumonia and bronchitis on a regular basis. I was told I was aspirating into my lungs because of my Lap-Band. If I removed part or most of the fill it would get better but every time I tried to utilize the band the problems would start back up. I developed several health issues that we felt were all related to the lap band. I finally was tired of worrying about what my Lap-Band was doing to me and made the decision to have it removed and Gastric Bypass done. After I completed all my test and 6 months of visits I was finally able to have the surgery 3 weeks ago. I no longer have reflux or issues shallowing like I did before. I was excited to be able to take a pill without feeling like it was stuck. The Lap-Band was removed during the same surgery as the Roux-en-Y Gastric Bypass was done. I was off work 1 week, returning to work with restrictions on October 2nd and completed released no restrictions on October 11th. I am finally able to eat some food and after 3 weeks of shakes I was ready to taste anything. I am excited to start this journey. I am currently down 25 lbs and very excited to start this process!

    BCBS RI requirements?

I've just done tons of research and made the decision before I ever went to one of the groups. (I was at the September group as well.) There are also a couple of good facebook groups where you can get decent feedback. A bit of drama in them, but overall I've found them to be helpful in solidifying my decision. Dr. V. is supposed to be very good. I have a friend going to him for a revision. I'm also trying to find out how much extra $ it would cost to have a private room at the Miriam. My ex had a private room after a kidney surgery, and that was the standard on that floor for the kinds of surgeries that folks have. I think the bariatric surgeries tend to all recover on the same floor in double rooms. But I don't want to deal with someone else's whining in the midst of my own so if it's something I can afford to do I'm looking at it.
  16. Sending thoughts and prayers! Have you had your gallbladder checked? Keto doesn't have to be all fat all the time, but a little bit of fat shouldn't make you miserable. If you've got gallstones or gallbladder problems, it can cause problems digesting fat. As for the reflux, sleeves can make that much worse, and I've heard of plenty of people needing revisions from a sleeve to a gastric bypass for that very reason. Hope you get some answers soon!

    Failure...

I had my sleeve done the end of August. It was a band to sleeve revision. I lost 30 lbs the first month but NOTHING since. Haven't gained...but haven't lost either. My protein intake is bad...I feel as if I have no restriction and I'm always exhausted. Im taking vitamins..iron and calcium. I walk but other than that not much else. I'm very discouraged and am embarrassed to go to my two month post op visit because I feel like a total failure. Am I the only one in this sinking boat?? 18. Many of you probably don't 'know' me from these forums, but I have been around for several years. i'm almost 4 years post VSG. I have struggled through many chapters in my life since my surgery and have regained a good amount of weight. since I carry ALL my weight right around my middle, I look horrible and my self esteem has tanked. Since my surgery I changed jobs and moved, lost a parent, had to change doctors, and gained a master's degree. I'm currently in the final few classes to become a Family Nurse Practitioner. on top of all that, I had managed to lose enough weight initially to be off all my medications-GERD and BP. Now i'm back on both. My GERD has worsened with the weight gain and i'm at the point where I can't lay on my left side if I've eaten within the past few hours because the food and acid will backwash into my throat. i'm miserable. I have been to the psych doc, the NUT, to the surgeon, and to my GP. none of them can give me an exact direction of what to do. my GP says they simply don't know enough about bariatrics to guide me. The bariatric team trialed me on Contrave, I got so sick I had to stop. I tried Keto and spent two days in misery from all that fat. My brain is the issue and I don't know how to get it back under control. I am taking straight Welbutrin for the time being to see if that will help with behavior AND with appetite. my surgeon is very concerned that from the GERD, i'll need a revision. I don't really WANT a revision, I know that the GERD has worsened because I carry ALL my weight in my waistline and it's pushing up on my sleeve- badly. I have an EGD this week with my GI doc which will look at the GERD and also the condition of my sleeve. I have no excuse, the regain is completely my own doing. One day about 20 months ago, I thought that drinking a diet ginger ale at work would be ok, and it has spiraled out of control from there. I am trying badly to get off of soda again, which I think is really the first step. As I walk this very difficult road to get back on the path where I belong, I ask for your prayers, positive thoughts, and vibes.
  19. Did you start out with exercise, are you still doing it? When did weight loss slow down. So you must be struggling, or is there another reason you think you should have had the bypass (acid reflux?)? Are you considering a revision now?

  21. I have gained back a considerable amount of my lost weight do to deaths and depression and bad eating. I wanted to see about a revision and now that I have insurance( had to pay cash for my surgery in 2005 ) so I went to a new doctor at Kaiser (my insurance). They had me do a upper GI test( had to drink barium and had x rays.) they said my pouch hadn’t stretched. I believe it cause if I am eating health foods like meats and vegetables I get full fast. But if I eat slider foods I can eat more. So just getting back on track by drinking protein shakes and having 1 meal a day at first. So maybe start with seeing if you pouch has stretched.
  22. I personally wouldnt put that dang band back in my body for nothing! I had the band in 2007 amd just had it taken out Sept 13th and revised to bypass. The band being in my body was horrible for most of the 10 years it was in. Its a foreign object and bodies dont generally like foreign object setting up shop in them. Good luck with ur decision tho. I can appreciate ur frustrations and would be looking for solutions too. So i wish u luck in the next oart of ur journey, whatever u decide.

    Sleeve to Bypass

Did do you ever do the revision? I’m thinking about it...
  24. I had gastric sleeve surgery 5/20/14, weighed in at 250 and was very successful. I lost 75 pounds, felt great, stuck to most of the rules and had a new start on life at 44 years old. Now, 3 years later, my acid reflux is back in full swing with regurgitation waking me up from sleep. I got to my bariatric surgeon who does an Endoscopy and finds a hiatal hernia. After all the success I thought I enjoyed, I am scheduled for a hernia repair and revision to bypass. It's been a whirlwind. The surgeon said regurgitation is dangerous and I have it often enough that it's a serious concern. I am a bit miserable from the reflux. I was advised that with my severe GERD before surgery I should never have been allowed the sleeve. I am scheduled for bypass and repair on Nov. 1. I am nervous. I never wanted the bypass because I hear of so many complications with ulcers and deficiencies. Does anyone have first hand knowledge of this conversion or are you more than 8 years post op bypass and can offer any words of wisdom?

    Can’t take this anymore

That is exactly what he said. He felt that I would lose a large amount of weight in a short time considering I was only 228 when I first started. He is a bariatric surgeon but from what I recently found out, he barely does Lapband’s anymore since they are fading out. He did not tell me the complications (I’m now hearing more about them since I’m having issues). I researched the issues on my own and felt that I would be ok before I did the surgery, but I was wrong. I truly feel it was the wrong decision, but the only thing I can do now is deal with it until I can hopefully have a revision. He did inform me that patients lose much slower then the other surgeries and that is another reason why he pushed for the Lapband. I just want a restriction without throwing up constantly. I felt the 3ccs was good enough but then I started feeling it was too tight. I’ve heard people get up to 9ccs and I’m having issues at 3ccs☹️ I’m so sorry to hear that you had issues with the Lapband. I’ve been on this forum for a while and people keep mentioning issues. I’m so disappointed in myself because I should’ve researched a little more before settling. Please don’t be angry, your words definitely helped me and I know things will get better. I just hope I can get a fill before 4 weeks because I’m wanting to eat everything at this point. [emoji52]
