    February 2019 weight loss buds

Sooooo good to hear from you! CONGRATS on losing 100 pounds!!! Omg, that’s such a HUGE milestone, and I’m happy to see you happy with it. Lol, I’d be careful about picking out too much in the way of clothing right now, because you’re gonna be shocked at how much difference the “last” 20-25 pounds will make in your bod. For example, here is my bod (5’7”, 51yo) at a weight of 163, vs 138, which is exactly 25 pounds. The difference is I was a tight size 10 at 163 in September and comfortable fit size 6 at 138. In fact, some of my size 6s are somewhat loose. I feel like a look great and healthy at both weights, but I still have that dress from this fall and it hangs off of me and I can’t wear it now. Finally gave it to my daughter who is a size 12 and she wears it.

    February 2019 weight loss buds

Hey everyone! I haven’t posted in a little while. So my surgaversary is feb 5. I consider my starting weight to be my weight the day I started the 2 week pre op diet. I have been a slow loser from the beginning and it was emotionally very hard to see the people on here losing 10-15 pounds a month when I was barely losing 6 pounds most months. I think I only had 2 or 3 months where I lost 10 + pounds. This is why they say don’t compare yourself to others. The mental toll can be quite high. I had to extend my goal twice because I did t make it. So my starting weight was 268 and dammit today I hit 168!!!!!!! I’m 5’3” so I would like to lose 25-30 more pounds. I now only weigh myself once a week sometimes every other week. I still take measurements at least once a month (was every other week until November when I was able to let my mental issues with weight loss go). I have lost 16 inches off my natural waist, 6” off my thigh, 4” off my bicep, 2” off my calf, and 2” off my neck. I don’t have measurement of my chest because I always measured before I got dressed and ‘the girls’ weren’t where they were supposed to be located for measuring. But I have gone from a 44DD bra with an extender to a 40DD. But actually I’m between a D and a DD at the moment which is very frustrating. I have never felt a lot of restriction. Always thought I could eat more than I should be able to. That makes me watch my food a lot. There are days where I eat more than I should but I’m aware of it and adjust the rest of my day accordingly. Calorie counts on menus is the best thing for me. It definitely pushes me to healthier options. When I eat out I always get 2-3 meals out of it. I’m cooking more than I used to and bringing my lunch to work. Sodas no longer have a hold on me. I do occasionally have one but it’s one of those 8oz cans every 2-3 weeks. I find myself looking at clothes often now. I have a cruise in June and have been picking up a few things here and there off clearance racks. I’ve been buying a size 10 for the cruise which technically fits now, but will look better by then. I signed up for StitchFix. Thought it would be fun to let someone send me clothes and it may open my eyes to new styles. My hair is still growing back. I lost about a third of my hair. It’s now about 3 1/2 inches long so it doesn’t stand straight up anymore. I have never gotten back to normal bowel movements. Anyone else have this issue? Almost diarrhea since surgery. No urgency or anything like that just not normal. Everyone on here looks amazing! I’m so proud of all of us. And to November11 girl you are killing it! You look great. DrSchaffner take measurements!!! And the pre op diet is really hard the first couple of days but then you realize you can totally do it. Good luck and keep us informed of your progress.

    February 2019 weight loss buds

This is so interesting. I thought i was in maintenance at 148-152, then suddenly dropped 10 more pounds and dropping about 1-1.5 pounds/week again. Surely this will stop within a few weeks, but the daily calorie struggle is real. As far as googling celebs, I recently found myself checking out that one picture of Jennifer Anniston and noticing that my body is probably smaller than hers (albeit surely with much more sags and wrinkles) This reality completely blew me away and I’m still trying to digest the fact that I’m wearing a size 6 now. Even a couple of weeks ago I called myself a 6/8, but even my newer size 8’s (the ones that ran small for 8) are getting baggier. Just for kicks, I tried on some size 4 Ann Taylor pants (bc that brand runs a bit large) and they fit like a glove. Didn’t buy them (because I never pay retail) but it was weird to see my bod fit in size 4 anything.
  5. Hi @FluffyChix. It is so great to see you are still here helping people and you have reached your goal weight!!! Life got busy for me and I sort of dropped off the map for the past year and a half. I decided I should come back and see how some of my surgery pals are doing and hang around for some support and accountability. I find being almost three years out that I am able to keep my bounce weight in a 10-15 lbs range. I am usually in the 150-160 range, but this winter and holiday season I saw 165 on the scale. I have tightened up my diet and I always eat in an 8 hour window with a 16 hr fast. I can't run like I used to because of knee pain so I have been sticking to walking the past 6 months. I would like to keep my weight closer to the 150 end because I am so aware of how easy it would be to end up on that slippery slope. It is great to be here again and I am looking forward to making new friends.
  6. Hi everyone! Im a sleever who achieved goal weight 9 months post op. Im currently under goal but would like to loose another 10lbs.. but thats not the point of this post! Love to hear from anyone who has ran a marathon, im aiming for a 4 hour goal time and currently running 5 days a week and increasing distance by 10%. No injuries yet (except my currently broken wrist from my downhill mountainbike hobby!). Im a plant based runner who is more or less a veggie. I do not eat processed foods - and by processed i mean food with anything on the label that is not an actual food. No ****. I live in New Zealand, so thankfully we eat very differently here and this has been easy. Any tips from experienced runners very welcome. I have an excellent baseline of fitness as I've been running since 6 weeks post op and credit it with my success.
  7. Hi all, I am a 30 year old male. I previously had a gastric sleeve surgery 5 years agobut due to the massive regain of weight, I had a revision gastric bypass in February 2019. Anyways, since my lowest recorded weight and initial weight loss success in June 2019, I have since gained 7kg to date and feel like I gaining 1-2kg a week. Specifically, I have regained 6 kg since early Dec 2019 to date. Over the past 3 weeks, I have regained at least a 1kg a week. I feel like I can eat just as much, if not more, then my first gastric sleeve surgery 5 years ago. I know that the bypass is a tool only, but I am shocked in the amount I can eat and want to eat. I can easily eat a plate of pasta or a whole wrap with chips from KFC (I know I should be eating healthy and not these type of foods, but it is easier said than done!). On a normal day, I drink at least 5 cans of sugar free coke zero and at least a box of paddlepop icecream. I'm super addicted to sweet and sugary food and I know this is the issue. My issue is I pretty much have to eat sweet sugary food. Luckily and thankfully, I am not diabetic (not that I know of anyways!) I've read stories of people who were much bigger than me who initially had the surgery who now eat a few bites and get full and they don't really ever feel like icecream and other sugary food. Yet I am always hungry and even after I eat food, I still crave sugary food. My old workmate who had the gastric sleeve never used to eat! They were never hungry or craved anything, yet I am completely the opposite. Anyways, my question is can anyone on here following their gastric bypass surgery still eat a plate of food or even close to? I just can't comprehend how following 2 surgeries without any complications (thankfully ) I still am able to eat so much food. Look forward to hearing from anyone.

    Cheated and disgusted

You will have some slips. There are simply times when temptation and opportunity, combined with hunger/stress are too much. But the key is to learn from the experience. If you can look back and really examine what happened, it can help you set up a plan for the next time. For example, I have learned to ALWAYS carry a protein shake with me, just in case I get stuck somewhere late, or am feeling overwhelming hunger that is going to cause me to dive into some kind of food I will regret later. Another example - When I first started riding longer distances on my bike, I would finish feeling very thirsty and craving salt. This led to a couple of drive through french fry attacks, which made me sick both times. But I learned that it was salt I was craving, so found some electrolyte replacement to use during my rides, and it has never happened since. There are all kinds of little behavioral hacks you can initiate to keep you from slipping up, but the key is to learn, learn, learn, and then devise a plan. Recently I read that a bad habit cannot be broken without a replacement good behavior. You can't just leave a void. An example of that might be to take a little short walk instead of eating, when feeling emotional stress or frustration. This really works for me. Instead of stewing over something and eating for emotional comfort, I get outside and just walk for 10 minutes. That's all it takes. I was the "perfect" WLS patient for 6 months! Never cheated. But as maintenance approached, anxiety increased. New foods needed to be added to keep from losing weight. I slipped up quite a few times, but I have learned from every experience and I feel I am much stronger now for it. I've learned so many techniques and have a lot more "food resilience" now. I am in more control and make better choices when confronted with temptation. I never would have learned these things without the mistakes. Failure is an opportunity to learn and improve - not to beat yourself up.

Thanks to all who are continuing to share your status. One of these days I'll post a side by side before and after photo. I'm loving all the photos so keep sharing. My "maintenance" phase includes a Premier Protein shake for my breakfast during my commute to work; either Chili, string cheese, tortilla chips and pimento cheese dip, avocado toast, or ham and cheese slices for lunch; and then chicken, eggs, or beef for dinner. As you can see, my vegetables are severely lacking (as they have been my whole life). I am focused on getting in my liquids each day, but my recent dizzy spells when I stand up remind me I need to drink waaaay more water. My biggest issue right now is that my sweet tooth has come back in full force and am snacking on too much chocolate (think Hershey Kisses). I'm at a stable 150 lbs and I like the way I look so I'm very happy overall. I am scheduled for a breast reduction and possible panulectomy in October (the panulactomy will depend on whether insurance pays for it). I'm grateful--so very grateful--that I survived the surgery well and am wearing size mediums in tops and size 10 in pants. I'm just in a really, really good place right now!
  10. I am 5 pounds away from hitting the 100 pound list mark. I had horrible pain I. My knees, hands, elbows and feet from arthritis. I was taking tumeric with bioperine and it worked amazing well for inflammation. now that I am nearly 100 pounds down, I don’t even need the turmeric anymore! i t just got cold where I live the past few days. I do feel a little achy in my knees now but nowhere near what it used to be. I am sure that my knees are damaged from carrying so much weight around though. I truly think that I was close to needing one knee replaced before losing the weight. I don’t feel that way anymore. while you are trying to lose, do yourself a favor and try the turmeric. Just be sure that it has at least 10 mg of bioperine ( black pepper) in it and is 95% curcuminoids. Give it a week ir two of taking daily and you will be amazed what a simple spice can do for inflammation Good luck on your journey!!
  11. I started in July 2019 with diet & exercise. My weight then was 427 lbs. I couldn't stand for more than 10 minutes before my ankles and legs started hurting. My right hip was also in almost constant pain. My doctor wanted me to lose enough weight before surgery to get my BMI down to 50. I started tracking calories and exercising 4 to 5 days a week for 30 minutes. Once I started losing weight everything started to feel better. I had my surgery on January 16 and as of today I have lost 103 lbs, 80 prior to surgery, 11 lbs during one week liquid pre-op diet and now 12 lbs one week after surgery. My pain is 1000% better. I started with water aerobics and after a month of that moved to doing recumbent bike, then onto elliptical trainer. Start slow doing what you can and try to increase every week. As you get in better shape and lose weight it will get even better.

3 years out and can't lose a pound.

You can also try some tricks like: Front loading your daily calories - eat the most early in the day, have a lighter supper, and nothing after 6 pm. Add more raw veggies - celery, peppers, jicama, radishes, some carrot slices, cauliflower, broccoli - I make up bags of these colorful little friends and eat a pound every day. Eat a salad or soup before each meal. Preloading with less caloric, healthy filler food cuts down on overall calories. Drink 2 cups of cold water half an hour before eating. Intermittent Fasting (IF) - eat your calories in a pre-timed window each day ( 6, 8, or 10 hours). Exercise. Exercise does not cause much actual weight loss, but it can increase your metabolism and build lean muscle mass which has a much higher metabolic rate than fat. Exercising during a fasting state (before breakfast) is even more effective for fat burning, as the muscle glycogen is already used up, which forces the body into fat burning mode. Make sure you are getting at least 7 hours of sleep each night. Change up your meals. Maybe you need more variety. Really take a hard look at what you are eating - is each bite nutritionally dense? Can you switch out some foods for some legumes, a few nuts, more veggies? Look at your dairy, especially cheese. If you are eating basically the same thing every day, it is obviously not working for you. Are you getting at least 64 oz of water each day? Stop snacking. Each time you eat, you get an insulin burst which drives calories into fat storage, rather than fat burning. Just some ideas to try. Each one of these tips is backed by evidence based research.
  14. I'm planning on having a sleeve done late March. (I'm having to pay cash, and will be paying and making in stone appointment Feb 10th). (And HI! New here and have been semi stalking forums for a short while 😅) I've got several people in my life who have had both By-pass/Sleeve, and they have given all sort of little tid-bits and niches thats helped them along the way. My father loved tiny spoons and tiny bowls. Even after 10 years of having the by-pass, when he was at home he continued to eat with tiny items. A friend keeps a metal 1/2 measuring cup on his car keys (so he always has it to compare). While another friend keeps a special metal ring on her so she can compare. What was/is your helpful little niche after operation? Tiny items? Timers to keep reminders of water and snacks? Or did you just mentally always measure out portions to make sure not to over eat?
  15. Sophie, You look fantastic! I am so excited for you. I’m 55 and I’m confident when I am finished losing that I will need exactly the same surgery you have just gotten. It is great to see someone close to my age doing so well!! I’m 10 lbs from my original goal and then I will wait at least 6mos-1yr before I go under the knife. I imagined myself having a rough time as compared to the other younger ladies who have recently undergone plastics. You have given me confidence by sharing your story! Congratulations on the perky boobs and flat tummy!

    Weight Regain

I started at 227 and now am 110. I never meant to lose this much but still don't want to gain. It's been 19 months and I've been fortunate enough not to gain any but I know it's still early out.

    Weight Regain

it's not inevitable, but yes, it's very common to gain 10-20 lbs after hitting your lowest weight. And some, unfortunately, gain a lot more than that. It takes constant monitoring to hold the course. ARRGGGGGHHH!!!

Are you asking for advise, or just looking for emotional support? If you are looking for support, there is a Slow Losers Thread that is full of well meaning people who will take you under their wings to make you feel better. if you want advise, then just look at your caloric intake for week weeks 4-6, decrease it by about 10% to make up for the lesser daily metabolic burn or your your now lower weight, and you will start shedding just like you were before. the hard part in this seems to be the transition to a more regular diet, and sometime people overshoot their goal by consuming more than they think they are. Even 300-500 calories a day too much is going to halt your loss, so keep it very lean until you hit your goal. luck!

I agree with @ms.sss. I think your boobs look great @sillykitty. Put comfort (physical & mental comfort) first when it comes to the dress & compression gear. Think you could go with or without. The dress is great and yay for the black & white pattern too. Thanks for the comments about my wide leg pant outfit everyone. Decided to wear it again today for a catch up with a girlfriend & a rushed shopping trip. I was looking for XS & XXS sizes today too @ms.sss. So hard to find or they just don’t offer the smaller sizes. It’s the reverse of how I used to struggle to find sizes. I’ve dropped to an size 6 Aust (2 US) so the size 10s & S in my wardrobe are too big. The pants I had on yesterday were on my hips & the butt was all baggy & flappy. But there is so much variation in sizes from retailer to retailer, label to label even in a basic singlet top. It’s why I don’t online shop much. I’m always returning. Loud sigh.
  22. Surgery date was 12/31/19. I was 334 that day, 23 days later, I am at 314. (21lbs. Lost) I can eat solid food now, no problems. Staying under 900 calories a day, down 4 pant sizes! This time last year I weighed 375. My only problem is constipation. I have been obese most all my life, I’m 53 now and I feel great, lots of compliments, friends & family are amazed at my weight loss. I am so glad I had the VGS surgery!

    January 2020 Surgery Date

I had my first post-op visit with my Dr. today...doing swimmingly! He told me I'll be under 200 lbs next time I see him- in a MONTH. I can't believe that could be true, its incredible to me and I still can't fathom the possibility of being under 200! I can actually notice the physical weight loss today (I'm down 13 lbs since surgery). I see it in my hips and face! Struggling, struggling with the liquid diet though. I have 10 days of that total and I will be done 1/28. I have hunger, I have cravings. Big time. But yet I don't want to "eat" (drink, heh). I'm siiiiick of the shakes, tell you what. lol. Its very weird. One of the biggest cravings I'm having is - strange enough- sauteed fajita veggies...which I won't be able to have until March. And food commercials are the devil. That is all.

    Work.....How long were you out?

I have a desk job and was only off 10 days. I had no pain or discomfort...so I was lucky I guess.
