This costume was was my son's last halloween... He got a new one this year so I decided to wear his last year one, since I could now fit it with all the weight loss... Amazing feeling for me!! -
You look great!! As a side note, i just had my hair done today. It's like yours but i have bangs. I'm at 11 weeks and my hair is falling out. She showed me that having a straight part will show more of the bald spots. Instead, Criss cross your hair over the part so it looks like a zig zag pattern, not a straight line. It really works!! And have long layers so the hair doesn't lay heavy on the scalp.

I would have to agree, ditch the soups and you should see some loss. Good luck! -
What factor determined your success?
Kya Wolf posted a topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
i was wondering what y'all have done that made a huge difference in your weight loss following the band placement. I am currently about 100lbs overweight and am going to a meeting tomorrow night to learn more. i am well researched and am leaning toward the surgery and would like some guidance. love the forums and the support. -
Mine didn't require weight loss. Just 6 months of doctor monitored check ins and 6 nut consults.

Hey, betrthnever, we have the same band birthday! I would love to keep up with you and your weight loss - may help to see someone else loosing weight, and compare what we are each doing.

Heidsz, The answer is absolutely! I was banded last July 9th. Since then I have lost 72lb and only 38lbs to goal. For me is has been as simple as follow the rules, do what the docs ask of you, and it works. It is not a magical cure. You can eat "around" the band, ie ice cream, chips, candy bars, are all still easy to eat. If you will eat normal foods and and not graze you WILL lose weight. You will need to eventually increase your physical activity. If will do this you will be sucessful. Take control of your own future weight loss and good luck!

Hello and welcome, I have had no problem with the lap band - however i haven't been at my sweet spot yet, i coasted for a while after initial weight loss then when i decided to get serious again I was following weight watchers. I have not put back on any weight that I have lost in a year which I think is absolutely thrilling. I intend to get to my sweet spot as I am going for a fill in a few weeks, had to partially defill prior to jaw surgery several weeks ago. I haven't been eating very much the last few weeks and have lost about 10 pounds so I'm not sure how the band impacts weight loss if one isn't eating - seems to be the same as without a band. good luck and hope you get more responses for support.

Congrats on early weight loss....hoping I am that successful -
Try wearing long, dangly-changly earrings that rub against your neck or shoulders when you shrug. The windchime sound is very sexy. Same thing with beaded handbags, bracelets, etc. Wear V-necks with a long chain that bumps against your bosom, and add pretty scarves & trinkets whenever possible. When I look in the mirror, I certainly don't "see" anything sexy. But I got more attitude than most women, which makes me feel sexy. I don't even like my new blonde hair at all, but it's different and sassy. Be confident and shake it, Baby!

Great feeling isn't it??? I just went in my closet and cleaned out all of my 20 or more 1x, 2x, and even 3x's. Honestly, I was a little scared to let them go...but, I have started buying 14 or 16 pants and love that they make me look so much better!! I WISH I had taken some good before pictures and data. I don't have anything except a couple of pics. So good for you!! Wonderful job on the weight loss!!!! I know how proud of yourself you must be!

Who say's the band doesn't work?
funky_monkey800 posted a topic in Weight Loss Surgery Success Stories
Well I have seen so much negativity on the band lately....and it kinda brings me down. so for those of you who are against or on the fence about the lap band, or struggling with your weight loss, I just want to say. The lap band is working for me! 100 lbs down! Yup....crazy. 11 months with the band. Has it been easy? Hell no. Burps, puke, reflux, too tight, not tight enough, stalls, ect.. Was it the "easy road"? Definitely not. Changing the way I eat, the way I exercise, the way i think about food, learning what I can and can't eat so I don't get sick in public or with friends and family. Learning to enjoy meals with the family with band friendly food. And even if it was the easy way, my hubby still forked out over $12k, sooooo...i know it wasn't easy working for that money. Have I learned alot? You bet. I still struggle. What if I fail? Am I really hungry? Why do I weigh myself every dang day? What do I say when I am with people and can't or don't want to eat? And I have to really be honest about what I eat... And I still haven't found the idea of exercising "fun". But I know I have to do it. And I never regret it when I am finished. I like barely being able to walk because I totally crushed my workout. So is it going to last forever...my weight loss? I sure hope so. I've worked hard for this. I've followed all the rules, and in the process i have learned so much about myself. I have come way too far to fail. This relationship between me and the band is a tricky one. But this IS the new me..so for now I am going to enjoy this victory....and have a pumpkin latte. ..cheers! -
Well done on the weight loss and being more active. I am 7 weeks out and feeling great now. I am OK with bread the only thing I can't tolerate is pork, it just doesn't agree with me.

closer to a decision!! statistics in lap band favour
nerolid posted a topic in Tell Your Weight Loss Surgery Story
Well I'm getting closer to a decision - through trolling through the internet I've discovered some interesting statistics. Apparently 90 - 95% of people who lose weight through diet and exercise alone will gain it back within 5 years (def been the way it's worked for me!! - but add a few extra kilo's as well!). But from what I've read (and I understand that you can't take the info on the internet as gospel truth!) approx 30% of those who have had weight loss surgery regain the weight. Sounds like much better odds to me! If I'm going to put the effort into losing weight AGAIN - I want it to be permanent this time! -
4weeks post op scared of leak
Autumnrain1908 replied to Honeybeesugar's topic in Tell Your Weight Loss Surgery Story
I thought you could only have a leak up to 2 weeks. Hmmm I'm curious too and pray you don't have one. How is your weight loss? -
So I had my first (of six) appointments with my bariatric specialist today, who believes with my insurance and situation, I should have no problem being approved for surgery. That being said, he discussed the differences between the sleeve and bypass and before our talk, I was set on the VSG surgery, however now I'm beginning to think that maybe the bypass may be a better option for me. He said that if I'm wanting to lose 60-80lbs, that the VSG surgery is the better choice for slower weight loss, but if I'm looking to lose 100+lbs, I should consider the bypass. I'm currently 5'5", 294.1 lbs and definitely want to lose more than 100lbs, but I've done so much research on VSG that I feel the most comfortable with that option, but also want to give myself the best opportunity to lose the most weight. What are your experiences with loss after either bypass or VSG? I'm not opposed to bypass, it was just never the direction I thought I was headed so I have done little research and feel my nerves all over again! Any advise helps, thank you!

So my question is how is your neck holding up with your weight loss? I am getting these vertical lines in my neck right under my chin (about 4 of them) it looks like I got a lousy lipo job done.. I am hoping with more weight loss it becomes less and less noticeable.. Right now, not very pretty. Can anybody relate to this and did any one have a good outcome?

You sound ready to get on the fast track to weight loss. Good for you. If your not already, I would start an excersise program. It has made all the difference for me. Start off slow and gradually increase the intensity and/or duration. I agree with the above advice to track what you eat. I did it for the first 4 months or so. Then it became second nature and I stopped writing it down.

If you dont stop obsessing for every pound now, you are going to be sorely upset when you go a few weeks and lose nothing. Peaks and valleys for weightloss, never a constant loss. Sent from my SM-G930P using the BariatricPal App

what were the previous weeks like? Perhaps you had a big loss and then things stabilized a bit... or if the losses have been very low for a bit, perhaps you do need to consider lowering your calories just a little. But I'm guessing it's just a little water retention or something and next week will show a loss again. Hang in!

Gained 2lbs 3wks postop
ShrinkingPeach replied to Jazziminna's topic in Weight Loss Surgery Success Stories
You can have Fluid retention from day to day. I don't know how often you weigh but it can fluctuate greatly from day to day. I weigh every day but try to see where the trend is going. Hang in there, this is very common and if you follow your plan the weight loss WILL happen! You can do this! -
Surgery on 9 Aug! Yikes!!!
Becca replied to curvygirl68's topic in Tell Your Weight Loss Surgery Story
WELCOME!!!! The concerns you have are normal. I was terrified when I would think about having most of my stomach removed. You know what though, you don't need all of that stomach! It just allows you to eat yourself to death. I am so happy with my sleeve and I love being able to stop myself from mindless eating. Lose skin is just part of the process. I have horrible skin on my stomach (that I hope one day to have removed). I am able to wear Spanx to hold it in and so it's not so noticable under my clothes. I will take the lose skin to be able to wear cute clothes! hair loss will happen, but it grows back. I was never a big fan of Protein shakes. The only ones I could really tolerate was the Premiere brand. I am sure if you shop around you can find one that is lactose free. There is something called Bene-protein that I used for awhile to add to foods. It is tasteless. Maybe you could try that. Congratulations on this new chapter in your life! -
Some people say that hair loss is a part of the bariatric surgery experience. You might be interested in reading more about it. To those who are experiencing hair loss after sleeve gastrectomy, Google: Telogen effluvium. You will find many explainations about hair loss, some of which are connected to shocks to the system, severe diets being one. There is information there about the nutrients needed to keep our hair follicles "awake" and growing.

@@CanyonBaby, great post! So much truth and I hope people read and absorb it. It can be a real struggle, but I think it's worth it. I want to elaborate a bit on your: "You may gain weight back." a little. I've seen so many people online and off who say thing about weight loss surgery being PERMANENT weight loss. No damned way. SO many people lose considerable amounts of weight and yet gain back every pound and sometimes more because they go right back to eating the foods they did before and sometimes nearly the same amount. I have a friend who had surgery six months before me and she had less to lose than I do. She was 10 pounds from her goal around Christmas. A piece of pizza turned into three. A piece of pie at Thanksgiving had turned into trying a piece of each pie at Christmas along with Cookies and fudge. After the holidays it kept going and it continues to as of this month. This story also touches on your "you may lose friends" point as well, because she blew up at me a week ago because I wouldn't go out for pizza with her. I offered to have her over for something else but she insisted we get a pizza. Pizza is a food I used to love but I haven't had a bite of it since I started preparing for surgery last March because I know me and I need to focus to stay on track. She's gained back 40 pounds since December and shows no signs of stopping. She told me I'm obsessed with my surgery and my weight loss and that it isn't healthy for her to be around me anymore. It made me a little sad, but I can't afford to let anyone or anything knock me off my track. I used to weigh 450 pounds and I never want to be there again. I'm telling this not for pity, but to illustrate how even people who've been on a journey like yours, it isn't exactly like yours. We all arrived at the decision for surgery for myriad reasons and our weight loss paths are going to be different a well. There isn't one way to do it right, you have to do what's right for YOU to keep yourself moving in the losing direction. It's too easy to stumble and go backwards.
