Hello beautiful people i am myshine84 because its my time to shine lol. I just had a quick question i also made a thread and could not figure out how it went sorry i new to this site! :-) any who ive had my six month weight management weigh-ins. I turned all my papers in now its just the waiting game i guess. Tell me somebody. How long do you hsve to wait before you get approved? Thanks lovely ones! :-) -
My doctor said 4 weeks as well before going back to lifting weights or anything involving significant twisting through the abdominal area like Pilates or yoga. Swimming was out as well due to my incisions still being pretty fresh. I was quite content with just walking. I found it was great to just go for a walk to help shift the gas pains and to take my mind off eating as the hunger started to return post op

Ahh Hoping This Is Worth The Battle
Kenzee245 replied to Kenzee245's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
UTGal99, he did not. He began to say and then my mom said she had the Gastric Bypass done a long time ago becuase of our Family health. He said well I would need a diary of everything you eat the time weight and amount and I need blood work but I strongly believe this can be changed with good eating and working out. I brought in all the diets and workout plans I had been on since elementary school and he really had nothing to say. So I found a new doctor which I see in a month. I am preparing myself for a long battle. -
Yes - but if you're still carrying a significant amount of weight you should probably train for that. A 300% increase in distance is tough of the body. Go online and get a 1/2 marathon training schedule and just walk it.

oh wow , yes I have to wait 2 months for my first appointment , it's the 8th dec , can't wAit . I'm not even sure I'm a candidate for surgery as my start weight is 101kg . What's the pre op clinic for ??

I have to agree with the others regarding the sudden drop in weight that comes along with it. I always dread weighing in right after I have indulged my hormonal cravings and am stunned each time it resulted in a 3-4 pound loss. Weird right? But I still wouldn't recommend cheating all month long expecting to drop weight like that all the time.

Thanks guys ! I do have a training schedule ! The half marathon is February 28th, so that I will have lost a significant amount of weight, and if I'm training at a heavier weight, it should be a bit easier. Most of the training days are 3 - 4 miles, which I'm doing now. Then on the weekends you add a mile. I'm feeling confident I can do it !!

18 Days To Gastric Sleeve Surgery..but Who's Counting
keybold64 replied to peacequeen's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Hello, sister sleever! I think a lot of people feel that way, that's way they gain weight before surgery For me, as much as I would have loved to eat everything in sight before surgery, I knew I had to lose that 13 lbs pre-surgery so it's forced me to keep it in check. And since my Dr doesn't require the 2 week pre-op diet I knew I had to kick it into high gear to get those lbs off. There's no way I'm going to take the chance of showing up for surgery and having it be delayed because I hadn't lost the required amount of weight. Too risky! -
Hi Hannah, welcome to the group! I was sleeved 13 months ago and I don't know what I would have done without the folks here, it's an amazing community. From the stats you hit a low of 140 and are now 148 at 8+ years out? That's absolutely amazing. I'm sure you know, lots of people (most?) regain 5-20lbs in year 2 or 3 so maybe 148 is your new set weight - is that possible? How does it feel 8 years on? Do you still get help from your sleeve to maintain?

How is the year going for everyone?
novena replied to Daron1965's topic in Tell Your Weight Loss Surgery Story
Hi to all, I have not written for quite a while...lots has been happening. It has been two years since lapband surgery. I lost about 40 pounds and gained ten back. I returned to clinic for some support...some good ideas, which they gave me but I seem to gain and lose the same two pounds. I know one of my issues is late night eating. Usually, I can be a fairly disciplined person but I surely don't think I am now! Any suggestions? Novena -
Today is Day 6 of my post-op diet. I've been doing well & I'm already down 16 lbs from surgery date! I scheduled four days of relaxation to de-stress before my surgery. My husband & I flew to San Diego and two days later, I received a call that my grandmother (favorite person in the world!) passed away. So, two days later, I had surgery in Mexicali, Mexico. Two days after that we drove back to San Diego & flew back to Oklahoma. Luckily, they were able to hold the funeral for me....that had been a worry. So, now three days after the funeral, I'm doing well. I'm encouraged by all the success stories on this website. Hope things continue to go well. I'm started my modified clear liquid diet today. :smile2:I'm still in shock that I've lost so much, but I'm guessing it is mostly water weight. Time will tell! Always-

To tell or not to tell......
jewel2013 replied to merika0821's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I have made a personal choice not to tell anyone other than my husband of course. I don't discuss my weight problem seriously with many people and feel that it is something that I want to keep private for now. There are some things in life that I am willing to share with friends and co workers and others that I want to keep to myself. As time goes on who knows what will change however I am living in my moment of today. -
6 teaspoons to every ounce - wow
Susanne replied to Carmy's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I was just about to say what Mini said. I HIGHLY discourage using those spoons or cup measures - HIGHLY!!!! Did I say HIGHLY? Have you ever read something to the regard of "product settling may occur"? Did you ever wonder why your Cereal box is half empty when you buy it? Well, believe it or not, the cereal box was much fuller when it left the plant. They would NOT waste that much packaging material if they didn't have to. Measuring material other than liquids by volume is WRONG, that's why ONLY the physical default unit for liquids is in volume and all other materials are measured by weight. Here are a few examples: Measure a cup of cereal with a cup measure. Pour it in a plastic bag, and drop it on the floor. Now pick it up and pour it back into the cup. You will see it has lost a lot of volume. Now imagine how many times the cereal box got bumped, hit, dropped and bounced between the plant and your place - measuring it by volume would give you a lot less cereal at the plant and a lot more after your 3 year old kicked the box through the kitchen. Measure a cup of strawberries with a cup measure. Now cut them in half and measure them again. Is this still a cup of strawberries? Cut them in half again...you get the point. Consider the difference in size between berries, the big juicy summer berries probably make 3 to a cup, the smaller early berries probably make 10 to a cup. Try it with anything. Put a container on your scale and tare it so it shows 0 (or do math in your head...yikes). First try your Protein powder. It usually says 1 scoop (35 grams) or so. Take a scoop and put it in the container - does it come out to the weight it is supposed to? Probably not. I recently tried it with Benefiber. 2 teaspoons are supposed to be 3.5g. Well, 2 of my little metal teaspoon measuring tools is pretty much TWICE the weight and came out to 6g. Another good example used to be the PB2 Peanut Butter powder, which also came out with twice the weight it was supposed to. So, when I used two tablespoons thinking that is one serving, I actually had 2 servings. Keep a scale handy, and measure your stuff, you'll be surprised...and not in a good way. If you find the scale cumbersome, at least doublecheck your frequently used items - you may be surprised how often you had 2 servings when you meant to take one...and those calories certainly add up. Other than that - you'll eat those amounts in no time, no worries. -
6 teaspoons to every ounce - wow
MINI-Me replied to Carmy's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Pulled this from Answers.com: 1 Fluid ounce = 6 teaspoons of fluid. Note that this is for liquid ounces, not dry ounces. A liquid ounce is a measure of volume, and a dry ounce is a measure of weight. A teaspoon is a measure of volume. You cannot go from teaspoons to dry ounces without knowing the density of the thing you are measuring. Dry ounces are a measure of weight. Teaspoons are a measure of volume. A teaspoon of lead weighs a lot more than a teaspoon of Water. Most liquids that we are going to measure using a teaspoon are going to be close enough to the ratio shown above to be OK, but don't confuse the two. As for volume after surgery ... just do your best. BUT ALWAYS stop when you are full. Don't get in the habit of overeating or eating just because it is on your plate. Good luck ... it gets easier as each day/week passes. -

Documented bmi for the last 2 years....Aetna insurance
alondralibre replied to AbbieRoad's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I have Aetna, and I was approved even though I didn't have any doctor's records for 2009. I went through True Results here in Dallas/Fort Worth, and the insurance coordinator used the medical records I had from 2007 and 2008. I think even an insurance company would consider it highly unlikely that I was morbidly obese in '07 and '08, dropped all the weight in '09 and gained it all back for 2010. -
Documented bmi for the last 2 years....Aetna insurance
AbbieRoad posted a topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I have Aetna HMO insurance and they do cover lap band surgery. The selection criteria says "For adults age 18 years or older, presence of severe obesity that has persisted for at least the last 2 years (24 months), documented in contemporaneous clinical records, defined as any of the following: Body mass index (BMI) (see appendix) exceeding 40; or And here lies the problem for me. Though I have been overweight pretty much all my adult life...I very rarely go to doctors. I had been to the obgyn in January of 2009 weighing in at 325, and then not back in a doctors office until February 2011 weighing in at 375, and then again last week at 363. Do you think they will count the OBGYN's weight documentation even though it's older than 2 years? I could go back farther than that and get my old obgyn's docs from 2006 when I was pregnant with my son, and also overweight (though closer to 275 then). I've finally made the decision to get the lap band, I'm attending a seminar on June 7th and I'm really looking forward to this. I meet (and beat) he BMI requirement (at nearly 50bmi) but I'm worried because I've not really been an active doctor frequenter. I would really hate to have to wait 2 years since February to 2013 to get my weight records! Too bad pictures of my fat ass from those time periods couldn't suffice : / Anybody have any idea? This is also my first posting here, been lurking for a few months. I'm 6' tall, 363lbs, size 26/28, 29 years old momma of 1. Only other comobidities that I have is high blood pressure, high cholesterol...but the doc has recommended weight loss and that's it. No sleep apnea, that I know of! Abbie -
Second Thoughts About Gastric Sleeve Surgery
Countess posted a topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I am starting to freak a bit. Surgery scheduled for the 28th and I am wondering if I should have done RNY. I am afraid I won't lose enough or I will gain it back...I have always eaten sweets and RNY might deter that...any words of wisdom? -
Hi everyone I'm scheduled for my surgery June 1st and I'm terrified. I've lost large amount amounts of weight on my own before through militant exercise and Portion Control but my biggest hurdle has been and will always be the emotional eating. I know that the surgery is not going to help me with that so I'm reaching out for help from someone else. If anyone would be willing to help me I I'd greatly appreciate it. Best of luck with your surgery. I had mine 2 years ago and I can tell you I felt no pain. Which was a good thing. Weight will drop off but the hard part is keeping it off. If you follow all the info given to you you should be ok. Best of luck.

Hey, I'm now 6 weeks post op vsg and I keep hitting stalls. HW: 238 Day of vsg: 228 CW: 204 I lost 19 lbs in the first two weeks. After that, I hit a stall for about a week and a half. I then lost another 5 lbs (slowly) and have been in another stall for the last week. Did this happen to anyone else? How do you restart the weight loss? I also feel like I can fit a lot more food when I eat. At first I was eating very small portions; now I'm able to eat a lot more at one sitting. Is it possible to stretch out the pouch already? Any help or advice would be appreciated! Thanks, Mallory
