    Feeling Pretty Down

Excuse me, but who's looking at you with discust? Shame on them! We all have our own issues. Yeah, toast. warm buttered toast with jam. MMMMM. I can't do toast, at least I don't think I can. And of course, "big breakfast" is such a subjective thing. One egg, a couple pieces of baccon and a slice of toast could be considered a "big breakfast" If you still haven't lost much weight at 6 months out then it's time to start screaming at your PCP about this. It is not normal or resonable to eat a low calorie diet and not lose wieght. There are some heavy emotional issues that go along with where you are. Time to make that appointment and talk about what could be the issue. Do NOT let them push back and tell you that you need to work harder. Be kind to yourself.

    Feeling Pretty Down

If you can still eat large meals then you need more restriction. I am very limited to what I can eat and I am glad for that because I know I can't say no to some foods. I have taken a good look at myself though because I was still eating ice cream and chocolate and all the things I shouldn't be and then wondering why my weight loss was so slow. Until you can do that things will be slow for you. I don't eat those things anymore by the way LOL On the other hand though, the closer you get to your goal weight the harder it becomes to lose weight quickly so don't be too hard on yourself. I have been banded since April 2005 and have lost only 66 pounds. While I don't think it's a lot, I am still greatful for that loss and am glad I haven't put any back on. I still get very down and frustrated when I don't lose any weight but I try and put things into perspective. Keep your chin up! You will get there! Maybe talk to a nutritionist and get some advice on your eating habits. But please don't be down on yourself, you are doing great and should be proud of your achievements so far.

@@AR40 You started at a much lower weight than most of us. If you figure it out percentage-wise, you're probably right where you should be!

    Feeling empowered finally!!!!!!!!

Glad your weight loss has continued. That is great. Funny how the body works. Who would have thought you can lose weight uping your calories.
  5. Hi all! Surgery will on 12/4/12. My doctor (Michael Schweitzer) does not require a pre-op diet only 24 hrs prior surgery. I would like to loose some weight before surgery and don't know what to do. Any advice on pre-op diets? Thanks!

Luckily I flunked the sleep apnea testing (is that not sick) I do have a health issue along with Thyroid, I do not know if that is enough for bc/bs or how long it will take for approval. If all else fails I will be gaining along with you sweetie. Cathy

  10. Hello, this is my first time posting but I have been lurking fir quite some time. I am 29 days post op and I am EXTREMELY dissapointed. I have followed my Drs orders to the tee. I have gotten in my 64 oz of Water and my 70 grams of Protein daily (1 Premier Protein and the rest from food). I am very particular about what I eat and I always choose lean Proteins and no bad carbs or sugar. I am allowed to eat about 550 calories a day and I have use MYFITNESSPAL to make sure I meet that. The only thing I have been unable to do is walk much. I have NO energy. When I grocery shop, I am usually about to pass out with dizziness at the checkout counter. Here's my dilemma. I have only lost 13 lbs . I know we are all different and lose at different rates, but I have lost more weight than this on every program I have ever been on. I don't regret having the surgery, but I am certainly feeling like I may be the one anomaly that will fail at this process. I have read many stall posts and i find my case to be different than most in that I lost all my weight within 10 days of surgery. That means I have been on a 19 day stall that started basically one week after surgery. Has anyone else been in a similar situation? Did things ever turn around you? Does 550 calories sound low to you? I've spoken to both my Dr and my Nutritionist and they both agree my weight loss has been low. I am almost in tears here, any input would be greatly appreciated.

    Haven't been hungry what-so-ever

I had surgery on the 8th and for the two days after it I only had Water, broth, ice chips, and maybe 3 SF popsicles total. I counted my calories yesterday and it was about 75 calories. Today I am allowed to start my full liquid diet and I am scared I am going to gain weight back or stop losing. I am trying to stomach down a bottle of the Isopure drink right now but its yucky haha and also one bottle is 170 calories which is alone a lot more than I had yesterday. I am not feeling hungry at all yet which is good, but I don't know if not eating enough is going to make me lose slower because my body goes into starvation mode (how do i know when this happens?) or if I start eating more will I gain?! Starting to feel a bit confused...oh well :/

    Ab workouts with the port?

I do ab exercises 1-2 times per week as part of a weight training class and it is somewhat uncomfortable. I was also banded in April 2007. When we are working upper abs (crunches and twists) I do feel it pulling on the band, lower abs exercises are ok (reverse curl/crunch). Try a web search of lower ab exercises and see how it goes. BTW my son will be attending Univ of MN this fall. We live in Maryland.
  13. I just researched some of the medicine I am still on and the say they cause weight gain. Does anyone else have this concern?

    Newbie-A Little About Me :)

I went through the same thing when I was little. My mom always made those kinds of comments and now does it to my kids. I know she means well because she's a nurse and has seen me go through so much, that she doesn't want my kids going through it too, but the comments are hurtful and they do last a long time. I stated very small most of my life because of her comments. I was 135 and I'm 5'7". I barely ate because I was so "scared" of getting "fat". But after having my kids and thyroid problems, gained a lot of weight. I never tell my daughters anything about their weight. My oldest is actually pretty small, but my youngest is built just like me and she could lose a little. I'm so scared they get like me but would never tell them anything mean. Sometimes I'll say, we all need to start eating right and get healthy. I know words hurt and that's why I try to change the words into a positive way. If only everyone knew how harsh words can be. I'm surprised I didn't have an eating disorder.
  15. Hi have been following this forum for awhile now and finally have my date Nov 19th so thought I'd drop a line. I'm 25yo girl been struggling mentally with my weight since I was 13 when y nana told me I had muffin tops in my bathing suit ( I was only 46kg) she was a big women who had in one slight comment passed on an obsession with weight with one tiny comment! Amazing and unsettling how easily people can influence you! I started gaining weight when I was 18 and had various eating disorders/depression over the years until I had my beautiful children who through pregnancy I would not do anything silly to my body. After I've had both kids I gave up was tired of fighting a losing battle and began to focus on the kids until I was at the play centre with my toddler one day and all the thin mummy's were playing with there toddlers on the jumping castle and climbing frame and my little girl was lingering around them trying to be involved, completely broke my heart! So here I am for me and my kids to change my life, hope I didn't bore you all :-/
  16. Hi there! You've come to the right place for support and understanding. I haven't been banded yet, but I have had surgery and know the fear, and I also understand the fear of failure, because I think about that even though I don't have a date yet. But I know there are a lot of fantastic people here who will help you, and who will tell you that, the band is a tool, and it can and will help you on your weight loss journey. One thing I can't stress enough is the importance of talking to people who understand, and that's what this site is all about. The person you mentioned who eats four hot dogs and then goes to the bathroom is certainly no one you should listen to; you need people who will encourage you, and maybe even give you a little tough love if it's needed. That's what I tell myself. I'm sorry I can't offer much help, but I know someone will come along who can. Stick around, and welcome to LBT! Debbie

    September Sleevers

i can eat all the foods you can't lol I've lost 50 pounds this is my 3 month anniversary .. I'm kind of upset because I actually gained last week about 4 pounds but everyone I spoke to that had the surgery says that's normal because I'm eating more Protein... I couldn't eat anything when I first came home from the hospital or drink anything so now that I'm adding small amounts it seems like my body is holding on tight... my surgery was September 23rd and thus far as of this morning I had lost 50 pounds... a week ago I had lost 54 so I'll take it but I'm going to have to work harder... it looks like my body is trying to save everything that goes in my mouth

    First Fill

I went today for my first fill. I have the 14 cc band and my doc put 3 cc's in it. I lost 11 pounds since October 8th, for a grand total of 33 pounds since August 16th (that was the last time I was weighed). Even in bandster hell I managed to loose weight!! I'm definitely feeling the restriction. I'm sipping on a can of slim fast and boy does it feel tight in there. I'm having trouble burping again, which happened after the surgery. I was told when I start eating again (48 hours of liquids and then 48 hours of mushy/pureeds), that I should take a bite, chew it 15 times, swallow, put my fork or spoon down, count to 50 and then do it again. I honestly didn't even feel it when she put the needle in! She had me do somewhat of a crunch, I guess to make the port stick up.

    The Grocery Store

Congratulations on doing so well. I would call that an NSV! I often wonder if I would have done as well with my weight loss if I didn't live alone and had to live with tempting foods laying around? I don't have to exert much will power as it is, I don't buy stuff I know I will be tempted to eat, so it's never in the house.
  20. I understand what you're saying- and nothing anyone can say here is going to change the decision I've made to follow through with this. I KNOW I can't go back to where I was. I know this. It's just disheartening to hear from your surgeon that although you're removing half your stomach, you "might not lose a lot of weight". How is that even an option to NOT lose weight?! My fear is that since I'm a revision, I won't be successful as if I was a WLS virgin. I've gained weight. None of my clothes fit me. I'm back on BP meds. I KNOW what needs to be done, and I'm doing it on 2/19. I guess I'm just looking for those success stories from other successful banders who have gone on to be successful sleevers.
  21. Today I went to Austin to meet with the people at True Results. Did the initial visit and my physical. I have all the appointments scheduled for psych eval, nutritionist, sleep study, and 6 months of weight supervision required by BCBS. I am ready. My mom had the surgery 5 years ago and has lost over 200 lbs. One of my friends had it almost 2 years ago and is doing great. So I have lots of support. I am just scared that something will happen to cause it not to happen. So I wait....

    Wondering...

When I went through my psych eval the doc and i talked about this. She wanted me to know that the divorce rate is significantly higher for WLS patients. Clearly, several things can happen. Either the person loses weight and realizes they have been settling for a person or lifestyle just bc they are fat...and they want something more... or... the WLS patients partner cannot handle the added attention the patient is now getting...and this leads to fights, and so on. I work at a hospital facility where loads of people are having surgery...bc our insurance covers it 100%. I have seen my divorced coworker go from a homebody to a drinking "sexual" person (saying it nice). She has replaced one addiction when several unhealthy ones. the point of all my blabbering is yes...it can change a person. It is life changing surgery. But, it doesnt have to change a person. I, like you, have always thought pretty highly of myself, considered myself kinda sexy at times  etc. My boyfriend and I talked pretty openly about his fear that I may "get hotter" and leave him. I explained that I am with him bc I love him...(I will spare you all the details). But, I just try to let him know that I am not with him bc I am fat...hahah...that doesnt even really make sense. So just talk to him. Reassure him. Put it in perspective for him. Ask him "would you leave me if you were fat and lost weight"? His answer will be no. And then you can say..."then why would I leave you"? Just some thoughts! Good luck with everything! Amy

    port removal at goal?

Hmmm ... I asked this when someone else here had a problem and had their port removed. When you get to goal, does your band stay in place and you can have the port removed - but what if you gain weight back, can they redo it with no problems? From all Ive read so far its pretty easy to do? If the band is a permanent thing or until you have to have it removed, can the port just stay there and no problems? Do you just quit getting fills? If you get a smaller port are there any problems for fills if you gain weight back? As my date for my new dr and approval gets closer each post of things like this I have more questions - is stuff like this addressed in meetings or at office visits?

    port removal at goal?

Well, that mental picture you were talking about....I have exactly that. I had TT back in November along with lipo of upper abs. My port sticks out so bad. Dr. Ortiz said when I hit my goal, I can have it moved to under the muscle, but he never said anything about removing it. NO WAY! The way I look at it is the lump I have on my belly is WAY worth it to be able to lose weight. I have no idea what it's going to look like when I lose all the weight, but as of now, I don't care very much.

    port removal at goal?

PB, Remove your band port? Oh my gosh, not for reconstructive surgery! Let us hope you keep your band and your health - I hope I can keep mine as long as I need help with weight control (unless I get an RnY bypass, that will probably be forever.) To be honest, that surgeon doesn't sound as if he knows a lot about the LapBand. I don't know anyone who had their band port completely removed for cosmetic or reconstructive surgery - it might get moved down with a Tummy Tuck, but that's it. If you can, try to consult with a Cosmetic Surgeon who has experience with LapBanded patients. (Ask your LapBand surgeon if he/she is local who they recommend - some bariatric surgeons have a colleague whose handled more of their patients and that's a powerful referral.) I did consults with 4 Cosmetic Surgeons but finally I picked the one who had done more LapBand patients and who worked closely with my Band doctor. He had done Lipo on plenty of Band patients (never poked a port yet) and also many Tummy Tucks/Abdominoplasties on Banded folks. He wasn't fazed at all. I saw his work on other band patients and I was very comfortable. My LapBand and I survived the Abdominoplasty and thanks to him, I didn't even need an unfill before my procedure. It's exciting to hear how your consults are going. You're already shapely contoured and symmetrical - if you do decide to have cosmetic work, you're gonna have a dynamite shape. Hopefully once I put these surgeries behind me, I can restart my belly dancing classes again, and one day maybe I'll have some belly-baring pics to add like yours! Happy Band (and Life) Journeys To All.
