    Gastric sleeve

That’s me right now 10 months post op I lost 70 lbs right away but last three months I can’t lose any it seems like I’m hungry all the time I think I’m just going to eat two meals a day and go back to one protein shake
  2. I had my operation on 4 Dec 19 and found the weight loss stalls at times too. I have found that doing 3 higher intensity type exercises a week keeps things moving along. I swim a kilometer at the local pool pushing myself so I am out of breath. I also log my foods daily in an app so I can keep an eye on any unnecessary calories sneaking in.

    Possible Revision

Here is an interesting article I read that helped me to feel better about revising https://www.naturalnews.com/2019-12-03-dangerous-drugs-linked-to-fatal-diseases-and-cancer-heartburn-meds-death.html

    Is this a stall?

I was @ 261lb on Jan 7 and I’m at 255 now. That’s 23 days to only lose 6 pounds and the scale hasn’t moved at all in 10 days. I’m now 8 weeks post op. I think I’m going to cut back the carbs again and TRY to still cram 800 calories in and see what that does.

    Waiting for approval in GA

Hi! I'm in the waiting stage as well. Luckily only 3 months here in TN, but I'm nervous something will come back and say, nope, you gotta wait more. I am a lapband failure - surgery in 2011, only lost around 40 pounds, but was able to keep it that way for years. I started having issues with reflux and weight gain, so they removed the band November 2019. Now just waiting on the new approval for RNY.
  9. Day 10 post op Yesterday was a good but a tiring day. Took a long nap and slept in this morning. My surgeon removed the three draining tubes (no more Hawaiian fruit punch hanging off me! She laughed at my rather creative analogy)... AND said I looked like a patient 2 + weeks out! She was so pleased with the excellent progress and wound response. I finally had a good bowel movement in three parts, too. It took a little coaxing, but I could tell things were seriously compacting (as they did after sleeve) SO there was much relief from that aspect. Continue to remain low key and take things day by day. A little sore at drain sites. And, I did ask her if she did in fact tighten abdominal muscles on day of surgery. She said yes, and wanted to be sure we received optimal results! Okay then. Now I know where that horrific pain was coming from the day of my shower. And, why my appetite is still not up to speed. Apparently, one is not hungry after the tightening. Who knew? All is good. I see her next Wednesday for another follow-up. She's the best. I am so pleased and feel in very good hands in the recovery phase, too. Look forward to my two week milestone. ;]
  10. Congrats! I am now down almost 30 pounds since my sleeve on 12/30/19. The best feeling is fitting into smaller sizes, my clothes are getting so roomy. I also keep it under 800, typically eating about 650-700 calories per day. Trying to get more water in of course.
  11. Hi, past-VSGers. Did anyone get a leak? What was that experience like? I'm 6 years post a very successful, no complications, VSG (the best thing I did for myself!!: happy, happy, happy; looking good; down to a size 10; not afraid of pictures; sexy, confident, etc.). BUT I've gained some weight [25-27 pounds] in the past 2+ years, and am having a hard time losing it. Bad back, bad foot, so intense exercise is out. I want another VSG, but the risk of a leak is real (due to decreased vascularization of where the stomach would again be cut); and no, I don't think my surgeon-friend will do it anyway. But I'm just curious... How bad is the 'leak experience'...? Did it ever stop!!!? Just curious. Thank you for any replies from those who've had a leak.
  12. I tried to keep it a secret, but when filling out paperwork for FMLA I had to get my boss to sign. She saw what type of surgery I was having and told her admin team. I’m not so sure they haven’t told others. I also told my work BFFs... but I trust them and know they haven’t told. IDK- when I get back from FMLA on 2/10, I will prob start to blab. I just know I can’t NOT talk about it. It’s such a huge part of me right now that I don’t really care what people think.
  13. Hello everyone. I had RNY gastric bypass on 12/2/19. Initially, I lost around 50 pounds in the first 5 weeks. During that time, I was only consuming 3-500 calories per day (just wasnt hungry). On my follow up visit with the surgeon, she expressed concern that I was not getting enough calories and wanted me to shoot for 1100 per day. I have done my best to increase my caloric intake but it has required me to eat higher calorie food in order to do so (not what I would consider to be diet food at all). I have been able to get up to an average of around 800-900 calories per day now. Since increasing my calories, I have nearly stopped losing weight. Over the last three weeks+ I have only lost 5 pounds which is very frustrating after seeing that first 50 pounds fall off so quickly. The last 7 days, my weight hasn’t moved at all. Am I doing something wrong or is this just a long stall that should go away soon?

    Step 1!

When you do see your surgeon for consultation, ask if he/she is requiring you to lose weight because you're right at 40. I would also advise you to speak to your insurance to see if they will deny you if your BMI dips below 40, unless you have 2 or more co-morbidities. This is one of the questions I asked in the bariatric FB group because my BMI is 44, and if I lose 21 lbs then I'll be below 40. Thankfully my surgeon is NOT requiring me to lose any weight pre-surgery. Sent from my Galaxy Note 10+ using BariatricPal mobile app

    Regrets?

I don't regret it for a moment. Literally the best thing I could have done. I remember being a week out and nervous as could be constantly thinking "What am I about to do to myself". Honestly, the best advice I could give would be to stop reading the horror stories online. I went in on June 10th 2019. I waited in pre-surgery for what seemed like forever which they gave me water and Tylenol. The docs came out and told me what was going to happen and then a short while later I was wheeled in to the room. It was chaos, but the nurse who had been with me stayed by my side. I was in the room for maybe three minutes when they said we just gave you something that's going to make you sleepy. That was it. Out like a light. I woke up in recovery and I was sore but not in incredible pain. Still groggy I slept off and on until about midnight when I had the gas pains in the shoulder and neck that I had been warned about. The night nurse was great, she came and walked me every half hour and every time I walked the pain lessened. I spent most of the night walking, eating Popsicles and drinking water. (I hate jello but it was available) Swallowing hurt at first but it was similar to strep throat. Not impossible or agonizing. By noon time the next day I just wanted to go home. I felt okay and was ready to be free from the boring hospital room. For the first few weeks I slept in a recliner rather than my bed because the incisions were uncomfortable when I laid down. Not horrible pain but nagging enough to keep me awake. My wife set up protein shakes in shot glasses in the fridge so every hour or so I would get up and walk around and take a shot. I moved on to soups and finally that first scrambled egg meal was the best. I ate a lot of single egg omelets with cheese. In fact, my wife says I got so good at making omelets in the first thirty days that she'll put my omelets against any breakfast joint in town. The hardest part was coping with not eating with everyone else when I returned to work and social outings. That and staying in clothes that fit. Thrift stores became my best friend as I was dropping a pant size every couple weeks at first. A lot of people are put off as they feel others treat them differently as they lose weight and it becomes a mental barrier for them. For me, I completely understood because I was treating myself differently. I wasn't the same as I was before. My normal just isn't the same as it was before, but it's better. My quality of life has improved so much since June. I run now. Not like just a little. I run 3-4 times a week. Miles at a time. Before I could barely walk .3 of a mile. My confidence is through the roof and I actually like buying new clothes. I can go out and do things I was afraid to do before. So of course the people around me are treating me differently. I am different. Will you ever feel like the normal you felt before? Probably not, but if you're like me your normal from before felt pretty bad. The new normal will be worth every second of discomfort and struggle. P.S. If your surgeons office offers support groups. Do it. P.S.S Take lots of pictures, you'll regret not having them later as you reach the big milestones.

Any June 2019 sleevers out there? How are yall doing?
  21. I had a sleeve done in 2015, did well, lost 92 lbs, gained back about 25 lbs now, during the past year as I cannot get my heartburn/Gerd under control. I was given Protonix again, was on it after surgery, but now a stronger dose... I went to my surgeon, actually his colleague in the same office and she advised to up the dosage of the Protonix and get an end and some studies done. I did that -- they did some Xrays, a CT scan, endo and colonoscopy and I was told stay on the meds at this rate for at least 3 months. She said any changes or its worse, come in and see her before the 3m time and since she was ready to give birth any mind, said to see her colleague. I did just that - she's out on maternity leave and I saw another dr. in her office and he suggested upping the meds again, to 2x per day and another over the counter at night time so avoid the GERD issues. I can't keep anything down, you'd think I would be thin LOLLL it's the opposite, I'm maintaining, but I have GERD 24/7. Its horrible, even water does it. So long story short - he said he would recommend the revision, which she did too - as well as fix an umbilical hernia I have that bothers me. The surgical coordinator called, temporary scheduled for March 18 for a revision, said he will get pre auth from GHI, my insurance and if it's weight gain, don't get my hopes up of it being approved.. he's always been a non friendly guy, even years ago, it's like I'm bothering him. He must deal with horrendous people all day to act the way he does, but besides that.... He said don't get my hopes up and he'll pencil me in for March 18. He said I didn't come back to the office for years, erhmm, why should I - I was feeling fine... Gastro doc told me my GERD could be due to the sleeve and to go back to my surgeon, which I did - has nothing to do with weight gain - I'm not dealing with GERD for the rest of my life.... It's really really bad.. Anyway, GHI said they cover the procedure, just needs pre auth and it could take 7-10 days to get back... so I'll keep my fingers crossed and not listen to the surgical coordinator guy ... maybe he needs a drink LOL Anyone have any luck with GHI/Emblem Health for the revision - my husband carries City Of NY coverage of GHI. Good luck all
  22. I'm down over 43 lbs from sleeving on 12/2/19. Trying to keep calories below 800-900. Down two pant waist sizes and shirts from XXL to XL...so I'm ecstatic so far.
  23. you should not be drinking with meals is like the #1 rule. The way to stop..... don't have it on the table... and i say table because its the only place she should be eating. Even when eating out i tell the waiter to not even bring it to the table.... Because out of habit, you will pick up the glass and you will drink... it's not that you want to or even need to you just will. Put a timer on your phone after you swallow your last bite. You want to make it work... do your part and follow the rules. Portion your food (i personally use 1/8cup), cut your food in tiny bites (everything), take one bite, put down the fork, let go of the fork, place hands under your butt/thighs, chew each bite for at least 20 seconds, swallow, wait and let go down (for me its' about 10 sec), assess my full triggers (for me it's left shoulder pain), pickup fork take another bite... repeat..... if you finish your meal, set timer for 30 min., get up and put dish in sink/dishwasher. This is when i normally start prepping a lunch meal for the next day for me and my husband (if he is in town). Start cleaning the kitchen... by then the timer goes off and i have a drink.

    Vsg to mgb?!

I agree with @catwoman7 Without the head work and getting to the bottom of why you do what you do.... No WLS is going to help in the long run. and defiantly going to Mex won't help as their only concern is getting the money. I was headed down there before i found my dr. here. They never asked if i had any type of counseling before. The only concern was booking me in and getting the money. I had counseling with the band and sleeve.... A lot of my eating came from wanting to control something.... My ex-husband controlled everything and food was the only thing i had. Plus I had been sexually assaulted at a teen and didn't really realize how much it affected me. But people eat for different reasons... The MGB was what i was going to Mex for. Then i found a dr here willing to do the "revision" 10 min from my work. He doesn't do the MGB so the sleeve it was.... 8/8/19. Mex MGB was like 8800 i think.... the sleeve here cash pay was 14k. But i factored in the time off of work, travel and the peace of mind that my dr was only 10 min from work and 20 min from my house...
