This is from the ASMBS website: Q: Do I need to avoid caffeine after bariatric surgery? A: Caffeine fluids have been shown to be as good as any others for keeping you hydrated. Still, it is a good idea to avoid caffeine for at least the first thirty days after surgery while your stomach is extra sensitive. After that point, you can ask your surgeon or dietitian about resuming caffeine. Remember that caffeine often comes paired with sugary, high-calorie drinks, so be sure you’re making wise beverage choices. I waited a month then started drinking it again.

How is MGB different to RNY help
JamesL73 replied to New&Improved's topic in Mini Gastric Bypass Surgery Forum
As of March 2019 MGB is still not endorsed by the ASMBS ( American Society of Metabolic and Bariatric Surgery), nor been FDA approved, so I doubt anyone will find any Insurance to cover it. There aren't even many Doctors in the US who offer it, most likely for the same reason. If you could find a US Dr that offers it, it would undoubtedly be a cash pay basis. It is, however, very popular in Mexico and other Countries, but again, you would be paying cash or using a credit card as I am, through places like Bariatricpal MX or BeLiteWeight and a few others who have low cost deals with reputable hospitals and Surgeons in Mexico. -
February 2019 weight loss buds
Gottajustdoit replied to TheMarine79's topic in Gastric Bypass Surgery Forums
NYC--I do not really attribute stress to not wanting to eat, but I do often default to a Protein shake because it's so easy. I don't feel like thinking about figuring out what to eat and sometimes see my options as so limited that I grab a shake. I still have my protein shake as breakfast in my car during my commute to work but it's when I eat a small amount at dinner I wait for an hour or so and then feel hunger so I grab a shake. The shakes are definitely the easiest options for me. I worry I this habit may lead to eventually taking in too many calories. Not sure why the food industry hasn't come up with premade "bariatric meals" yet! Might be a great business to start! -
VSG to RNY Revision. Anyone?
Frustr8 replied to d258's topic in Revision Weight Loss Surgery Forums (NEW!)
And I guess surgeon's do what they are most comfortable with. I believe Blossom Bariatrics in Nevada only does VSG, they must not care to do RNY after all. -
Hi! To you all.... I’m new to the site. I’m in the process of starting on this Sleeve journey. I tried starting last year but the office I was at claim they lost my paperwork, didn’t even bother contacting me and said I had to start all the way over when I called. I have my 1st consult with Emory Bariatrics on Monday. Only difference with them is you have to pay $150 up front with other office there was no fee. Iim only super nervous about what it’s going to cost me. Weird right I know. Lol! I know I’m a candidate for the surgery so I’m not worried about that part. I’m just ready for my Surgery date and time like yesterday.

Wonder how either vodka or tequila would be with that Wild Strawberry from Crystal Light or the Equate equivalent? Maybe a more Bariatric MARGARITA? 🍷🍹

Doubt you can hide very much from a Good Bariatric Surgeon, by now they HAVE HEARD it all!

Know a little bit of how you feel, been on the same basic level of diet for 10 months nearly due to strictures, ulcerations, only blessing was I am negative for H Pylori. Ask,my Bariatric Dietician just the other day " Will I ever grow past puree and Mechanical Soft diets?" Roy just laughed, yeah I have a Male Dietician, but he's still believing the day Will come! And he told me to stop centering on what i can't do and be grateful for all the good facets of my post- surgical life. I am thinner, more able to move around, and so I am in a much better place than I was Spring 2018.

BariatricPal Multivitamin ONE "1 per Day!" Bariatric Multivitamin CHEWABLE with 45mg Iron is now available!
Frustr8 replied to Alex Brecher's topic in Protein, Vitamins, and Supplements
Not too expensive when you consider what you're getting. Remember Alex is one of us, went from lap-band to MGB, didn't come in all this from corporate greed but to find the best things for us and himself too. I have placed several orders with the Bariatric Pal store, products are good, shipping is prompt, and you know he would not stock items he. would not give himself or his family or others he loves. -
Sticking my toe in the water...
Frustr8 replied to Libby63's topic in General Weight Loss Surgery Discussions
Many of them you are able to cut back or drop. As you lose weight your body will need them less and less. FYI you are not Too Old! I am 73, 8 and a half months out, had some weird things happen to me along my journey but never would. I go back to slowly dying with obesity and all the sorrow it entailed for me. I have now lost 150 pounds from my highest weight, 104 pounds since my RNY last September 5th, just about ready to go into an 18 from my 28-30W, seeing Onederland just AHEAD, will be so much happier under 200 pounds. I am now less weight than I was when I delivered my Tomkitten, my youngest and he will be 40 on June 12th. Not over-happy I now weigh 40-50 pounds less than him, bad for my Baby's ego, started making noises about Bariatric Surgery for himself. Told him I would be happy to introduce him to my Dr Bradley J Needleman at OSU, but after that the decision will be between the 2 of them. I will support him in whichever the directions end up! -
Was anyone else told not to shave their legs 4 days before surgery?
Frustr8 replied to KimB7811's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
My response to surgery, double washing with Gold liquid Dial, second application, leave on for 5 minutes before rinsing. Worked for my Bariatric Surgery, last September and for my own shoulder surgery. April 4th. -
Just out of curiosity, what was your original surgery? A VSG, correct? I just find it very odd that you went through not one but TWO bariatric surgeries without this issue being corrected. I can imagine the first going wrong but why in the heck would they do the revision without noticing that the sleeve was too large???

How did you decide the sleeve was for you and any regrets?
Healthy_life2 replied to Panda333's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
@Panda333 I’m a sleeve five years out maintaining in the 130’s. I am type one diabetic. My surgeon suggested the sleeve because there are times, I need to eat sugar to raise my blood sugars. WIth the sleeve, my intestines are not altered, I don’t have dumping syndrome with sugar. I am now well controlled and hardly use insulin. I want people that are researching weight loss surgery to know, many of us have had no complications and have maintained years out. Weight gain or need for a revision does not happen to all of us. Do your research, trust your surgeon’s advice do what’s best for you. Any type of bariatric surgery may need a revision due to complications, surgery not performed correctly, eating to the point of stretching your surgery (big debate on this issue) Grazing/eating around your surgery, eating disorders, or simply not following your surgeons plan. Only my opinion: For some, the sleeve is the wrong choice for them. Things I wish people knew about the sleeve. Your sleeve restriction will become less over time. you can hold more food. (it’s not back to full size) Long term success will be diet and behavior change. Just because you have more space does not mean you have to eat over your calories and macros to gain weight. If your surgeon has diagnosed that you stretched your surgery. Get counseling before a revision to make sure you don’t stretch a second surgery. Your intestines are not altered with the sleeve. Most of us can tolerate sugar without dumping. If sugar is an issue for you, investigate surgeries that give you dumping syndrome. You will feel real and head hunger at times (true with any surgery type) Hunger is more manageable after surgery. age 45 day of surgery 2014 - age 50 2019 -
Insurance may not qualify you based on BMI? I am 5'3 and don't think I would have done this at 200lbs UNLESS I had serious medical conditions associated with the weight. Many bariatric offices offer medical weight management programs (special shakes and usually Phentermine) as alternatives to surgery. Schedule a consult! Stricture- How do you deal with the awful feeling you're going to throw up?
Frustr8 replied to Briswife15's topic in Gastric Bypass Surgery Forums
Yes, I told Roy, my Bariatric Dietician at OSU I fully expect to graduate to Mechanical Soft instead of Stages 3 or 4 at the end. He told me " Patience Grasshopper, your day still will come!" Reminded me I will have all facets of my Bariatric Clinic"s programs when needed, up to and including the remainder of my life. I am a Permanent Adoptee, and isn't it 👍😛🍀 a totally Cool thing to know! -
Well welcome @dparciak to our little exclusive club! Don't mean to sound totally flippant, just trying v to smile through my tears 💦😭. Met yesterday with my Bariatric Dietician Roy, yeah I have a male one- but he is good one. We went over diets to formulate one that will give me the most for my bucks. See there are things, try as I may, my rebel pouch the ever'present 👓Ms Precious Pouch, will not sanction within herself so we have found substitutes for each item. And sad to say, about 6 were things that were my go- tos before she was born of a scrap of my stomach tissue last September 5th. Oh I do try a small spoon of each about once a week, but they are all No Go still at 8 months in.👕

I am in ketosis by virtue of my bariatric diet (and confirmed via labwork). I ordered some exogenous ketone supplements. Are they going to "boost" the fat-burning or are they just bull? They were only 12 bucks so *shrug* Sent from my SM-G930R4 using BariatricPal mobile app

Can I still have my VSG if I’m on my period?
Ruby Hernandez replied to Ruby Hernandez's topic in General Weight Loss Surgery Discussions
Thank you SusieQ2019, I hope my experience gors as smoothly as yours. Also, thank you for the pad reminders! Best of luck on your bariatric journey! 😁 -
mine goes over 2000 sometimes. Evidently it's not dangerous, but it does mean you can cut back a little on your B12 supplements (and save a little money). I used to take a megadose once every two weeks, but the PA at the bariatric clinic said I could cut it back to once every three weeks and still be fine. Just keep an eye on your labs and adjust accordingly.

Hi sis 🤗 Well, I get hungry given the small quantities I eat, and dream naughty dreams about burgers or pasta... but then when I have to eat I mostly stick with specially designed bariatric meals or purees as well. The doctor said to give a try every 2 days to smith solid, so I keep throwing it up. Supposedly at some point I will stop. Hope my energy returns, I’ve been skipping office as much as I could and I want to start exercising properly. How about you - been to the gym yet?

Just wondering if anyone from NC
AllieCat1993 replied to Lena809's topic in Duodenal Switch Surgery Forum
Hey NC Friends! I live in Jacksonville, but I am going through the REX Bariatric Program in Raleigh. I still have some time to go, but it's I could have surgery as early as December. As long as all the testing is done by October, my surgeon told me I will be looking at a December surgery! Very excited! And a huge congratulations to everyone here, I wish you the best of luck! -Allison
