I asked about DEPO when I had to stop the Estrogen based pill and my GYNO said it tends to cause weight gain and recommended against it since I was having WLS. She didn't want it to effect things. How did you do? Did it seem to effect you at all?

I am a year and a half out and have been around these boards for the same amount of time. This has popped up quite a few times for many women having unusual or missed cycles, spotting, heavier, lighter, cramping etc. it seems to stabalize as the weight loss slows down. I am on birth control and I had breakthrough bleeding and longer periods for about three months as best as I can recall.

Mine has been starting later. I asked my Gyn about it and he said because I'd lost a lot of weight so quickly, it's thrown everything out of whack, but not to worry.

Am I weird?
SleeveToBypass2023 replied to SleeveToBypass2023's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Part of the reason I'm so vocal about it is because I know (from when I was a waitress for 3 years a LONG time ago) that as soon as an obese person is seated, they start talking about them. I use to feel so bad for the customer, because we didn't know why they were overweight, if they had surgery or not, if there was a health reason for the weight, yet some of the waitresses would talk crap. If I can be open and share why I order the way I do, even though I look big still, maybe that will stop some of the jumping to conclusions and making assumptions. I'm proud of my success so far, and I'm proud I had the surgery, but I also know what it's like being thin and being obese. And if I can change even 1 person's way of thinking, then I'm all about it. I'm thankful and grateful I have the support I've had, but I know not everyone does. And I hate that. So if some of the stigma can be lifted, even a tiny bit, I'll do what I can. Even if it's over-sharing with my waitress lol -
Am I weird?
Recidivist replied to SleeveToBypass2023's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
My general response when I'm asked about my weight loss is that I did a year-long medically supervised weight loss program, which is also basically true. The two people who were the most hostile about my decision to undergo surgery were my sister and a close friend, both of whom are quite obese themselves. I don't think it was about protecting me. My guess is that they felt threatened by the fact that I was taking a positive step to improve my life and lose the weight. -
I've been doing pretty well. My stall is finally over. I was stuck at the same weight for about 3 weeks, now it is falling off. I'm down 30 lbs since surgery and 53 lbs total. I have had some issues with constipation and my hair has been falling out (which I don't have much to spare anyway because of the alopecia from PCOS). My knees haven't hurt at all and we are going to Disney next month. I am still dreading fitting into the rides, but I'm hoping it goes well. I was pulled aside in front of everyone in line to get checked in a test seat to see if I fit last time we went to Universal. Everyone was watching, and it was super embarrassing. I don't want to go through that again.

to those of you post op who had sleep apnea and cpap/bipap machines….. Did your sleep apnea improve? How long/how much weight before it did? Did you stop using your machine/when? i am down about 50 lbs already since my in lab sleep titration test (70+ since my at home sleep study) and I was severe and needing bipap. (tmi but i was having issues with hypoxic morning migraines and sleep paralysis) I hate my machine but like not getting hypoxic at night so I still wear it. Just went to sleep dr and they were not really helpful with the question. said I would need to loose “significant” weight before I would need retesting or come off the machine, kinda discounting my loss so far… said if i had a “miraculous” weight loss over the next few months to call, otherwise they would see me in a year. Just wanted to hear experiences from everyone, but especially high bmi peeps thanks!!

Your feet get fat just like the rest of you so when you lose weight you loose it on your feet too. I usually was a 38.5 but then went to a 39 when I gained my last 15kg. Now I wear a 37.5/38. Wait till your rings start to slip off your fingers cause, yep, even your hands & fingers get thinner.

6 weeks post op ZERO WEIGHT LOSS AND DEPRESSED

You all are amazing! I’ve started to shift my thinking. I eat healthy, work out and track my food everyday. And like it was said above at least I’m not gaining. And I really feel eventually something is going to give ❤️ -
Libby- I struggled with food staying down. I had to stay on liquid and slops longer. The most I can have in one sitting is 150ml. This helps. I’m on soft diets still. I also am on medication I take before I eat to help. shorty- that is fantastic news. Glad you got to enjoy your time suzi- I have to set a time every 2.5 hrs to eat. Otherwise I don’t eat. denise- that is great news about your walking. I am managing to walk without getting worn out or feeling sore back. kiky- try senior exercises. They are low impact low mobility. I use to do these a few months before surgery. myself- my weight stalled for almost a month. But with being sick and all I wasn’t able to exercise or eat well. This last week the weight has managed to start to fall off slowly. I have lost 33pds since surgery. I’m also keeping a diary on my sleeve journey with all the food and protein, calories. As mentioned above, we have worked out my stomach intake is actually smaller then the gastric recommendation. I can tolerate 150mls. So I have to fit in another 2 feeds per day. Still on soft diets and meal prep every Sunday evening. I’m also walking an hour a day without back or feet pain. But sitting in my office for 6-7 hrs a day is hurting my buttocks.

Same, same and same! 10lbs pre-op. About 13lbs in first 14 days. Then nothing for almost 3 weeks now. I can't walk much because of a hip and knee issue I need addressed. Was hoping to get some weight off before any replacement surgery. I'm frustrated but staying the course. Almost a week late on my cycle too. Which was like clockwork pre-op. I keep saying that patience will prevail here. That and staying the course! -
Going through IVF at 40+ with bmi of 39
kaylee50 replied to stardust82's topic in Pregnancy with Weight Loss Surgery
I went through 2 rounds of IVF while I had PCOS and obesity. They are supposed to carefully calculate the meds based on your weight, medications, and other factors. Maybe look into having the retrieval with a different clinic, if the second round is similarly disappointing. Reproductive endocrinology is more of an art than a science; it's not even about the most experienced -- some docs just have a spooky talent for it. But here's what I really want to tell you: take heart, because the technology has advance so far already since I did this (my kid is now 11 years old). Back when I was undergoing IVF, preimplantation genetic diagnosis was relatively uncommon. Nowadays, even if you only have a handful of embryos, you can figure out in advance which ones are viable. For anyone over 35, this is absolutely necessary. So imagine how much better it will be when you are ready to have that baby? Also, consider whether you want to get donor sperm because embryos are far more likely to survive cryopreservation, compared to ova. One of my single friends did half and half, because she could not make up her mind whether she wanted a biological child without having the idealized nuclear family. In the end she decided she just wanted to have a child, found the smartest and best looking donor she could, went ahead with the transfer, and had a beautiful baby boy on her own. And then she met the man of her dreams (wouldn't you know it...lol). -

Crisscat replied to crazycatladycanada's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
I lost 0 lbs in 5 weeks. Yes it can happen and it is normal. I lose alot slower than others on here because I have a knee issue and cannot walk any real distance (I need a knee replacement and keep putting it off). I believe I lost 22 lbs pre op then 14 lbs in like 9 days post op then after that I was on a 5 week stall no weight loss whatsoever. It can certainly play mind games with you. I am 5 months post op and I lose only about 7-10 lbs per month. But not all months, for example in Sept I think I only lost 5 or 6 lbs and so far October isnt looking that great either lol. I just take what I can get at this point. As long as I am not gaining, I see it as a small victory -
Scared to go through with surgery
Softtacocrumbs replied to Softtacocrumbs's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Thank you so much. I was so scared I was crying. It's been a couple days and I'm down 8 more pounds, putting me at 190lbs. I'm dropping so fast it doesn't seem to feel real. My body temp is finally up from 92F to 96F which I think is contributing a lot to things, and I don't always feel cold now. As everyone has said, I think you all are right. I'll change my PCP and find someone else. I really feel like he may be fat phobic and I'm not sure if the surgery will be good for me since my daily calorie intake is around 1200kcal normally. He said if I got the vsg I could get my calories down to 500kcal, and things just sounded off to me. I guess in my heart I felt like I had no hope and I couldn't get my PCP to take my concerns seriously because he would always say I needed to lose weight before I was allowed to discuss hormone problems with him, which turned out to be the case. I really appreciate everyone who replied. I'll update the thread with my progress. However, at this rate I may not qualify for a vsg. At least when I reached out to my nutritionist, she said I probably wouldn't qualify by the time my hormones equilibrate. Thank you so much everyone. Going through IVF at 40+ with bmi of 39
stardust82 posted a topic in Pregnancy with Weight Loss Surgery
Hi, All - Tomorrow is my first egg retrieval day and I am disappointed, to say the least, that I did not respond well to the meds (300 IU of gonal rediject and 300 IU of menopur) and they are only expecting to retrieve 2 eggs. I have pcos and have been taking 50 mg of spironolactone. I was told I no longer needed metformin a few years ago after losing 100 lbs (that I was no longer pre-diabetic) but I've read that some women took it and that it helped with weight loss and getting pregnant. So I'm going to look into that. I've also been told to look into taking wegovy through a local medical weight loss program that is run as a part of that particular hospital's bariatric surgery program. has anyone done something similar? basically, i was told losing weight could yield me a better response to the meds. I will be 41 in February and the quality of eggs goes down even further by then. I am told that I can do 2 more cycles before then and am fortunate to have decent health insurance that covers a big chunk of the expense up to 8 times if i am only doing the egg freezing part (though the cost still comes out to about $2000 a cycle). any advice would be much appreciated now from women who have gone through ivf. I was sad enough about not having found a life partner yet at 40. now the thought of not being able to have even one biological child on top of that is devastating.- 6 replies

My surgery was April 26 22. I have gained 5 lbs in my weeks. I’m struggling to get back on track. I went on vacation to the beach and I didn’t stick to the plan. Now I can’t seem to get control of my snacking? How do I get back on track. How do I stop all of these cravings? Why is this so hard??

6 weeks post op ZERO WEIGHT LOSS AND DEPRESSED
crazycatladycanada replied to crazycatladycanada's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
Nothing that new since what I posted earlier last week on this thread. Still no real weight loss. Did loose a cm in a couple areas. But that could also be my measurements being off as it’s hard measuring your own arms. Cat scan showed my pouch is bigger but that I did indeed have surgery. No blockages. But apparently I still have a hernia which is strange since I paid Mexico to fix that. Did sleep apnea testing with an at home machine that didn’t go great so now they said that I have to go in and stay the night so that could also be affecting my weight since I never sleep. And not sleeping messes with the metabolism. i also have a fatty liver which is weird because I hardly ever drink but obviously it’s because of my obesity. Still waiting on the internal medicine referral so hopefully that comes soon. I will still continue to track everything and bust my butt and hope that one day it’ll just start coming off. -
Starting my ESG journey!
kaylee50 replied to Milena81's topic in Endoscopic Sleeve Gastroplasty Forum
Hi, I am so glad to see more people here who have had or are looking into ESG! I highly recommend it. I was looking into it for a while. What convinced me to go this route was the recent MERIT study published in The Lancet. Here's a decent summary of the findings: https://www.bariatricnews.net/post/merit-rct-endoscopic-sleeve-gastroplasty-is-safe-and-results-in-significant-weight-loss. I had my ESG on October 7th and have lost 15 pounds as of today (10 days later). Like Forensikchic, I had very little pain. My procedure was at 10:30 am, was discharged and on my way home by 1:30 pm, and basically slept the rest of the day. The next day I had some gas and nausea, for which I had zofran (which made me throw up, so no more of that tyvm!). I slept in a recliner in an abundance of caution until the 3rd night, but I could have skipped that. The procedure was Friday and I was back in the office on Monday, Day 3. Looking back, I had super low energy until I started protein shakes on Day 3. I was easily tired the entire first week, only short walks and light dumbbells / kettlebell lifts. But I was drastically better when I started the soft/puree stage (real food, bless!) on Day 7. By yesterday, Day 9, I was able to walk briskly for over an hour. This morning, I did a 5K run/walk/run, which was great. I was also able to deadlift 5x3 sets at 95 lbs (a big de-load for me) without problems because there's no cutting with this procedure. Other than having to limit my caffeine intake (UGH!!), I consider myself back at 100% as of today, Day 10. Yay! My doctor gave me a Post-Procedure Guidebook provided by the device manufacturer, but I could not find it on their website (apolloendo.com) to share. So here is a picture of the page with the summary of stages of food. See how easy? In summary, yes -- I am super happy I chose ESG. My life is such that I could not have taken the time off necessary for surgery. It was either this or nothing. I am so glad I went forward with it. -
Doing well. Down 40 lbs already. From highest weight. 30 from day of surgery. Almost 2 months out. Feeling better every day! NSV yesterday, went to a football game and very comfortably fit in the seat. I was nervous the whole ride there!

Food Before and After Photos
Tomo replied to GreenTealael's topic in General Weight Loss Surgery Discussions
Veggie burger. I air fried the veggie burger with garlic infused olive oil, and then after it was cooked, I put the sourdough with it till it was toasted. 138g in weight total. I would usually finish it but stopped early. I guess I shouldn't haven eaten a couple of slices of green apple a half hour earlier. -
Am I weird?
SpartanMaker replied to SleeveToBypass2023's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I had another anecdote to share: My wife is also overweight, but she's decided WLS is not for her. That said, she's been doing a fantastic job of losing on her own. She told me yesterday that apparently the rumor going around her work is that SHE had weight loss surgery. She even had people ask her if she had surgery and some people didn't believe her when she told them no. According to her, these almost universally seem to be other overweight/obese people? It's as if they are saying that she must have some magic secret for all her weight loss and we all know that weight loss surgery is magic so that must be it... -

Spinoza replied to JohnVSG's topic in Tell Your Weight Loss Surgery Story
Thank you for this OP! I used to play competitive sport and stopping that but continuing to eat as I had before definitely contributed to my weight gain, as did so many lifestyle changes. So glad to hear your story and I only hope I can get there some day too. 💪
