    Stalled Already!

Hi all, 5 weeks post RNY and the scale hasn't moved since week 3. Getting really disappointed! Weirdly enough I still also feel hunger (I think?) sometimes I know it's head hunger, but other times I really know I have to eat. I'm managing around 4-5 tablespoons of food, which feels like far too much, is it? I also rarely feel full. I don't get any full signs like nose runs or hiccups, so I never really know if I'm satisfied or not. My surgeon told me he gave me a lot of restriction but I can't feel it. I can even drink big mouthfuls of water no problem. So worried I've done something wrong and messed up already Sent from my SM-G973F using BariatricPal mobile app
  2. Hello all. I'm on week 4. How many oz or cups were you guys on at week 4? My instructions still say 2 TBSP per meal, 3 meals a day. I find this sort of unsustainable at this point, and have noticed most other programs are a bit higher in intake. I feel this is important because my body actually loses more weight with a bit more food. I also don't particularly care for the dietician I have, so I'd welcome anecdotal evidence. And did you guys eat soft/cooked veggies at this point? I can tell my body is lacking in nutrients and would really like to start incorporating veggies with my protein in small amounts. Thanks all.
  3. Is this normal? I had an amazing weightloss for the first week or two. I'm still on liquids, starting mush tomorrow. I'm stuck at 279lb for over a week. I dont get it. This is my worst nightmare. I've given up all the foods I love and I'm just stalled here and im still massively overweight. Has anyone had this?
  4. Hi everyone ! I am a newbie here and English is not my first language so please, bear with me 😛 I am a 24-year-old college student and I'm getting a ByPass on Sept 11th but my classes start on the 14th. I am fully aware I won't be able to go back to college literally 3 days after surgery, obviously ... but I was hoping that I could go back on the 21st. What are your thoughts/opinion ?
  5. Hi Everyone It has been 3 years since I last posted. During that time I had 3 more Plastic Surgeries despite the fact that I never got to my goal weight. The Dr felt that with all the excess skin from having lost 280 pounds it was best to get it off and see if maybe I would be able to walk again. So in May of 2018, I had an extended Brachioplasty. Within 1 hour of waking up, I was sent home and within less than an hour of being home, I was rushed back to the hospital as I had blood pouring out of my left upper arm. The Surgeon's assistant was called when I got to the hospital at about 9 pm. He came right away and said I had a baseball size hematoma and c would have to go back into surgery. No room was available until 4 a.m. so I remained in the ER until an Operating Room was available. I remained in the hospital for 3 days and almost have to have a blood transfusion. I was released but was told I immediately had to go to the PS office. As I was being loaded into the van my arm started bleeding again. The Dr greeting me at the door and I was immediately taken into a room. I remember him saying I looked like death warmed over. He called insurance and they approved for a nurse to come every other day to clean and rewrap my left arm. It took me 10 weeks to recover from that surgery. I must say I am glad I had the surgery but even though he took off 7 inches of skin from each arm he could have taken off more. I have Micheline Tire Baby Syndrome and the excess skin removal did not take all the rings away. I still have one roll on each arm and some excess skin as my arms are 14 inches instead of 21. To this day I still cannot wear sleeveless shirts and added sleeves to my bathing suits. Insurance will probably never approve another surgery on my arms. After this surgery and complications, I had two more. In early Dec of 2018, I had my panniculectomy and a second hernia was repaired. I had no complications with this surgery and was thrilled to get 10 pounds of skin off my tummy and not have the huge overhang any more. Wearing the binder was not fun as it kept riding either up or down my butt. By the end of January, I was able to buy my first compression garment and was back to work 2 weeks later. Despite the 10 pounds being gone I still was not able to walk without a cane or a walker. All this excess skin being removed is not helping my 6 herniated discs, yet there is one more surgery and this I am told this one may be the one that allows me to walk. In late May of 2019, I had a belt lipectomy. The first week was very painful but by week 3 I was doing great. Two days I had terrible pain on the V spot on my back all the way around to my left groin incision. I was in terrible pain, my skin was hot and I had become so swollen I could not sleep on my left side and I had developed a blister. The Dr had been called the weekend I had terrible pain and felt so sick but I was not able to see him until Wednesday. He Popped the blister and over 5 Emesis Basin of fluid came out. He sent it for testing and 2 days later I was told I had to go to an Infectious Disease Doctor. The Doctor had no appointments on Friday and by Sunday 2 more blisters developed and I was so scared I went to the ER. It was determined I had MRSA and was in the hospital in an isolated room for 5 days. I had to have a MIdline put in as my veins were collapsing. OMGod that procedure hurt like you cannot believe, I was told I had rolling veins and it took them over 40 minutes to get that midline in. To make matters worse I still had a lot of excess skin in the area they wanted to put the midline. I could not move my arm for at least 2 hours after that procedure. For the next 8 weeks, I had 2 hours of IV Vancomycin 2 times a day. Finally Mid August I was well enough to return to work. This surgery did not help my ability to walk any better. I started going to a pain management clinic and he tried all kinds of procedures I can not even remember what they all were. By January 2020 the pain management Doctor thought that radiofrequency ablation might work. So in late February, he stuck me 4 times on each side of my back with the heat probe that cuts the nerve. I knew within weeks I had not worked and then Covid19 hit us all and I was in South East Florida a very bad hot spot. Even today as I wrote this we are still under phrase one. With my body the way it is I am afraid to go anywhere. My last day of work in the office was March 12th. I have been out of the house 3 times since that day. Thank God I can do remote Zoom lessons with my blind clients otherwise I would be homeless. So where do I go from here? I do not think the pain management Doctor who I went to for over 6 months is someone I would want to return to. In Jan I will be 65 years old and even though I have been on a Medicare advantage plan since 2008 I could change insurance companies and get all new Doctors. The only problem is I have no idea what kind of a Doctor to go to or whether or not these Florida Doctors would do anything for me. I am still obese despite having lost 250 pounds and have another 80 pounds to lose. I am over 4 years post-op for my sleeve surgery and barely manage to lose 5 to 8 pounds a month if I am 100% on plan. I was hoping to be walking by my 65th birthday but it does not look like it will happen. I wish I could say losing all this weight was the cure to my being able to walk but it was not. I am so totally disappointed that it did not happen. But I suppose when you have 6 herniated discs losing weight is not going to help them. Yes, I am thinner but am still in a great deal of pain and cannot do anything without a walker or a scooter. Some Golden Years I will be having. Am so tired of being like this. Jan 2021 will be 27 years since I was so badly injured at the Quiet Waters Park Kiss Country Chili and Band Competition. I wish I had never gone it was the ruination of my life.

Thank you. I’m going to try to do daily until I am at the stage of eating regular food again. I figure someone can benefit from my trial and error. Good luck on your upcoming surgery!

  10. I started this journey in January 2019 after a visit to Joslin for a type 2 diabetes check-in. I knew I was very overweight, but had never been recommended for Bariatric surgery! I thought that was for the “other fat people”, you know, 500+ pounds. I was kidding myself. I took the recommendation seriously and went to a meeting for those interested in Bariatric surgery. I decided I wanted to try some lifestyle and food changes myself before I made such a big decision. It was my teenage son telling me he was worried about me not living through my fifties that kept me moving in the right direction. This is probably the time to tell you that I have always enjoyed healthy eating and usually made pretty good choices with food, except for the times that I didn’t🙄. For me, eating is only a part of the extra pounds. I am the main character in a genetic horror film! The film stars me, before major weight gain, starting off with Metabolic syndrome (that includes Hyperlipidemia (crappy HDL), High blood pressure and high blood sugar), Arthritis (2 surgeries, 1 procedure, cervical and lumbar radiculopathy and stenosis- for almost 2 years, unable to work or even stand for more than 15 mins before excruciating pain set in), PCOS (hormones, fertility drugs, hysterectomy), and finally the cherry on top of the extra pounds? Type 2 diabetes and sleep apnea. So, after I changed some of my behaviors, food choices and had an RFA of L4, L5 and SA, I was ready for help to move into the next phase. This phase began on December 30, 2019 at 204lbs. I am now 1 week away from my VSG surgery and feel ready and excited about feeling better, eating better, moving better and ultimately being here, not only for myself, but my son. Today is the 7th day of my pre-op diet and I weigh 180.2 lbs. I feel proud and know that this surgery will be an amazingly powerful tool to have on my journey.
  11. Well I did it finally. Im feeling good. Surgery was Tuesday morning and I was olhome before lunch time on Wednesday. They have me on very minimal medication, otc pain medication and a script for tummy issues, but i really don't even like taking them. I know I should, at least in the short term. Fwwling good. Ive lost 7 lbs in 2 days, but i still have a long way to go. Eddy Blaine Brown II
  12. I had surgery in July 15. Since the , I haven’t been able to sleep in my stomach or side. When I try, it feels like my insides are all moving and a weird muscle in my left side abdomen cramps up terribly. I need sleep :( I can’t sleep on my back. Pillows aren’t helping. Is this normal?? When will it stop happening?

    1st month stall?

So I'm 4 weeks out from surgery as of yesterday. I lost about 13 lbs my first two weeks and now, I'm only down ~7 more lbs. At my 2 week follow up, my docs wanted me to double that, by the time of my 6 week follow up (from 304 to 278). I've been hovering around 298-297 since my 2 week follow up and I can't understand why. I honestly don't eat (never hungry/get full quickly) and walk at least 30 mins a day w/my doggo. I've built my stamina up from being able to walk only 10-15 a day. My clothes fit better, and I'm losing inches, but the lbs aren't going away. Would anybody have an idea why this might be happening? I stick to my diet, and don't eat anything I shouldn't and try to get my water intake in. I admit, I struggle with my protein intake because I just cannot stand protein shakes and I can only manage to eat 1x a day. If anyone has any advice/information, I'd love to hear it. I'm slowly adapting to this new lifestyle and I don't have a lot of people to talk to about this. Thanks!
  14. So I've been consistently moving the scale everyday. I'm on day 20 and went from 249 surgery date to 228.2. Thing is, I've been that weight for the last four days. How long does it last? I'm sooo close to weighing less than my husband, I need 5 more pounds!
  15. Turns out that I'm normal....how disappointing 😔

Today is 3 weeks since my VSG and my scales showed a loss of 100g for last week.

So I thanked my body for doing a great job of losing 10kg in the past 34 days and I understand it needs to make some internal adjustments to my physiology.

However, I can now fit my first goal pants comfortably, so no real complaints from me.

  16. I attended a party today and I had very strong impulses to eat some of the food being served. I did not cheat but I cried when the desert was served from such an intense feeling of frustration. I had brought a cooler with my shakes and sugar free jello so I had something to fall back on. Once I said goodbye and got in the car I felt much better. I could have opted not to attend but I feel like I needed this challenge to prepare me for the road ahead. I felt a little embarrassed to cry over chocolate but I’ve been giving into every single impulse so long that the act of restraint caused me to cry. I have five more days to go until I have surgery. The next five should be a piece of cake considering I was able to get through the day. Thanks for reading.

    2 WEEKS!

I'm new but I'm so excited. I got my surgery date a few days ago and it's in 2 weeks! I just started my liver reduction diet yesterday (surgeon told me 2 weeks would be good) and I'm just so excited. What should I expect following surgery? Like, anything I should look out for that isn't in the usual stuff?
  18. I had my pre-surgery blood work & tests at the hospital this morning. I also received the 2 week pre-surgery diet I will need to follow. Of course, it follows a very low carb path. I was diagnosed w/diabetes in January & I feel very nauseous if I don’t eat enough carbs so I’m not sure how this is going to work for me. I plan to ask my nutritionist about this but I was also hoping other diabetics could weigh in with what they did. My diabetes is controlled with Metformin. Thank you!
  19. Has anyone had this happen? Pain is more like a dull ache than anything else. Just wondering if what I am feeling is the early stages of a hernia? Sent from my SM-G986U using BariatricPal mobile app
  20. Hey so I was sleeved 6/29/20. I've done a lot of research so I see the 3 week stall is a thing. My question is how long does it last?? I've been at a stall gaining and losing the same 3lbs for about a week and a half now. It's just insanely frustrating. I feel I shouldve lost more by now. I'm not over eating. I roughly eat 1/4 - 1/2 cup at a time and only 3 times a day and 1 or 2 shakes a day if I can get them in and of course as much water as I can. I walk every day and starting Monday I can start basic strength training again (minus core for now). Help!? What am I doing wrong?? Hw:290 Sw:266 Cw:257

    6 weeks post op

I had my surgery on June 9 and I was doing ok with food until this week and I started getting sick. Is this normal? I am sick of being sick. I am so sleepy all the time also. Last week I felt better than ever but that didn't last long. Sent from my Nokia 3.1 Plus using BariatricPal mobile app
  22. I had a gastric sleeve in 2012 and went down to 167. I'm 5'11" so I looked great. I gained weight after the 5 year mark and went up to 235 [I was originally 280] and I was so depressed. I got a revision sleeve. First 2 weeks I lost 5 lbs each and then BAM nothing week 3 and GAINED 3 lbs week 4. I swear to you if I'm even getting 1200 calories once a week that's a lot and I walk for miles. Anyone else have this experience and any words of hope? Hanging by a thread.
  23. Im not sure if anyone else has had these difficulties but it doesnt hurt to ask. I am 3 weeks post op about to be 4 this thursday. I have just started stage 2 of my diet plan last week friday to soft/mushy foods. Ive been experiencing some difficulties swallowing even with the smallest bites and yes i do chew until its practically gone and nothing to really swallow. I am unsure whether or not i am full or satisfied. i am not familiar with what it should feel like to be full or satisfied. it doesnt feel like its stuck but it just isnt very comfortable to eat. its a feeling i find hard to explain. its starting to bring me down because im not comfortable eating. Ive also been experiencing shortness of breath from about a week post op to now. I have had some issues last summer with having heat induced asthma but my inhaler hasnt been helping much either. I noticed in week 2-2 1/2 post op it started to get better and i was just about to finish the liquid stage of my diet plan. once i started my soft/mushy food stage it had come back and i have a hard time standing to help my cook in the kitchen i get short of breath and have to hurry to my room where the AC is full blast to help me calm down and catch my breath. It isnt like i cant breath at all it feels like when your outside on a humid day for too long and your having a hard time breathing normal you end up noticing your yawning more to get that deep breath you feel might relief yourself or trying to take deep breaths to relief yourself. and lastly ive been experiencing some stomach pain in my actual stomach (my pouch) before realizing i have to use the bathroom. is that considered dumping syndrome? usually i dont experience it until about 2-3 hours after lunch and it happens once a day except for yesterday i did not need use the bathroom apart from not be too expressive but to urinate. i know my water intake and protein intake hasnt been the best since my post op and i did just start my iron supplements alone with other vitamins 3 days ago but has anyone else experienced these feelings?
  24. Did anyone do a strict diet leading up to their two week liquid diet. I have to start my two week liquid diet July 28th. What work best for you to get into that transformation.
  25. So I had my surgery June 26th, and just past my 3rd week and only lost 1 pound. I am walking every day and have progressed up to 5k steps a day and not losing. I am in my puree phase and my typical day is a half an avocado, Greek yogurt, and tuna mashed. My snacks are a SF popsicle, SF jello, or unsweetened apple sauce. After surgery I was not able to drink the premier shakes as they induced nausea so I have been using an unflavored protein powder and mixing in a Zero powerade and water with crystal light. Not sure what I may be doing wrong and this Friday I start my soft food phase and not sure what my menu will be yet. Any help would be appreciated
