Is this all i will lose?
biginjapan replied to dgarcia27's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Averaging 18 pounds a month is great! I think many people here have unrealistic expectations of how fast they will lose post-op. There are so many factors: did you have sleeve or bypass? Are you male or female? Was starting weight/BMI high or low? etc. No two people are alike, and no two people will lose weight the same way in the same time frame. You're only 2 months out. Do you really think the weight loss is going to stop suddenly? I know it's hard not to compare yourself to others, but really, the only one you should be comparing yourself to is... you! What was your weight loss like before you had the operation? I know for me, the most I could ever lose was about 10 pounds a month, but after a month or two, the weight loss would plateau and creep up again. What are your body measurements like? You may find that you are losing inches, even if the scale is stalled. How do you feel? Do you have more energy? Do you have less pain (if you have it before)? There are so many non-scale victories to keep track of. Even for me, the last two weeks have been a bit of a downer, as the scale hasn't budged (but it finally did today). That said, even though the scale wasn't moving, clearly something was happening because I suddenly found most of the clothes I was wearing were too big - pants and skirts literally falling off my body, shirts so baggy it was embarrassing. So I've done another clean-out of my closet and I'm happy that I am starting to fit into size 16 bottoms, something I haven't been able to do for over 10 years. Anyway, focus on your NSV's, stop comparing yourself to others (social media is great for support, but it often can create false expectations based on what others are projecting out there), and relax. Hope you start feeling better about this soon. -
Major NSV -- 4.5 Months Out -- Great Health News!
sunnyd replied to Kris's topic in Weight Loss Surgery Success Stories
Congrats! That's great news for you! I think being healthy again is the greatest NSV of all! -
Edistogirl, good luck with your scheduling! My favorite NSV was being able to see my whole body in one panel of my bathroom medicine-chest mirror. It's a cabinet with three mirrored doors and I could never see my whole body either side to side or front to back in one panel. Now I can, and considering the room left over I'm blown away by how big I was! (I never took measurements "before"--too scary.)

NSV means non-scale victory. ie fitting into a new size of clothing or someone making a remark about how you look. seeing yourself in a mirror and thinking it's someone else. being able to fit into the airplane seatbelts without an extender for the first time..

Hehe. My sleep study is tonight....
MrsG replied to Cheer Mama's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
I had severe sleep apnea which they found during my sleep study. I needed a bipap machine and I did use it. I had it for after surgery which helped in recovery. That was 1/15 (my surgery) and since then I've lost 80lbs and was able to get off of it! Total NSV for me! -
2month post op and not losing
RealityCheck replied to lapbandgirl2009's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
You are doing excellent. You are supposed to be loosing 1-2 lbs per week... that is what we signed up for, slow and steady so that it can be maintained and not gained back. And as far as the inches... some people wish they could hit a NSV (Non-Scale Victory) like that. Look at it all girl... you are doing wonderfully. -
How long was your recovery from the plastic surgery? I know my arms, at least, are going to need it in a year or 2 after I"m done losing! LOL! Looking great! Yesterday's NSV for me.....bought the smallest size pants I've ever bought! WOO HOO!

So I haven't weight trained since my VSG on January 8, because I didn't want to do it until I'd gotten clearance at my three-month post-op checkup, which was last week. (I've been swimming and walking for exercise since surgery, but no weight training.) I got clearance from my surgeon to resume weight training last week, so I went to the YMCA (where I work out) today. The YMCA has a computer system called ActivTrax that will generate weight-training workouts for you so you don't work the same muscles all the time or get bored, and I wanted to have a trainer re-evaluate my ActivTrax weight stats before I just went back at it willy-nilly. I did the re-evaluation today, and I am right where I was before surgery. The last time I weight trained must have been December sometime, but I guess the swimming helped keep my muscles strong, because the trainer didn't have to adjust any of my weight levels. I can pick right back up where I left off. I am so happy I haven't lost any strength. I love weight training (cardio bores me but I do it anyway), and I am just tickled pink that I can still do what I was doing pre-op. YAY!

First my NSV. After 20 years I can finally wear my "official" wedding ring. I was so excited I almost cried. I had to take a picture an text it to my husband. Yay! Also the same day my daughter decided to show me how far I have come. I haven't list any weight in 2 months (ever since the doctor started messing with my synthroid) and I was saying that I don't feel like I look that different. She had to prove me wrong and made a side by side photo. I have never been so excited to be proven wrong. In the first I was at my highest weight of 248 and the second is at my current weight of 177.

I cab from the train station to the office and most of the regular cabbies know me pretty well. So yesterday I got into the cab and since I've been out a lot because of the hip replacement surgery, the driver hadn't seen me in a while. English is not his first language so I have to remember that he meant it as a compliment when he told me that I was skinny now and not big fat any more. What could I say except thank you... LOL.

Take measurement!
1poundatatime replied to itstime4me123's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Definitely! There are so many ways to track your progress! Use them all! Scale, body fat %, measurements, photos, NSV -
So my emotions are on full blast these past two days. My very best friend has been fighting for her life since May 2009. She has had some major victories as well as many setbacks. Friday she was given another nasty setback. Anyway, she has now begun some "finals" and I am not dealing with it very well. One of our things was Disneyland. Girls trips to Disneyland just because. She told me last night we need to plan another trip soon. I have ALWAYS been an emotional eater and these past two days have been bad. I have maintained my eating within my band parameters, but find myself searching out food. Anyway, I guess I can look at this as a NSV of sorts, but it is hard finding joy while thinking of the future. All I want to do is cry. Thanks for letting me "vent". Okay, so this weekend I decided to try on a formal pencil dress. they didn't have my size, so I tried on one size smaller. Guess what! It fit!!!!!!! I didn't even need to unzip it! I just slipped it right on. I was just window shopping, so I didn't buy it, but I might go back and get it because I have a wedding to go to in 2 weeks. The second one was that I was sitting at a restaurant eating, and thought to myself, " gee, I think my stomach is shrinking!" LMAO!!!!

Congrats on the skirt fitting!!! Stupid question... What does NSV stand for??
-
Woot woot! That is a fantastic NSV! Congratulations!
-
Raine, I love your NSV threads... and this one is no different! You gotta love the compliments and seeing 'the light'... well, that is pure brilliant!!
-
Congratulations on doing so well. I would call that an NSV! I often wonder if I would have done as well with my weight loss if I didn't live alone and had to live with tempting foods laying around? I don't have to exert much will power as it is, I don't buy stuff I know I will be tempted to eat, so it's never in the house.

Nsv For Me At The Gym Today Yay

Congrats, I know it's a big NSV, I actually used beach towels at first for the same reason. -
Ok, so like many people, I have a birthmark. Mine is a mole tucked so far up my thigh I have literally only seen it when contorted, and it has never seen the sunshine. So today I am wearing some silly underwear which fasten at the crotch, and after I pee I am hopping around trying to re-fasten things, when I see myself in the mirror (dont allow them at home), and notice a new mole on my leg. I'm at an age where these things happen so wasn't thrown, until it occurred to me that it was a familliar size & shape! So I check it out, and as the lbs have shifted so has my birthmark!! What was once very hidden is now sat at the top of my leg clearly visible, even in granny knickers! A very odd, and unexpected NSV!

Hi All, I thought I'd share some of what I thought were the odder moments of surgery. First off was I had been in my room several hours before I noticed the gown I was wearing when I was willed in was a different one. Now I know during surgery we are all laid out like Sunday chicken but it still felt odd to think of someone undressing and redressing me! I also had something called an On Q pump an odd little gizmo that pumps in a novacaine type drug into your stomach area. The last was a bit of a NSV well not really but felt like it they came to take me to x-ray for the upper gi they brought this wheelchair big enough to almost fit two of me in it. The barium stuff was nasty as could be but with someone like me with bad reflux I was able to do it. Oh and a last bit of advice for anyone waiting on surgery, when they bring you your first liquid tray do not go crazy mixing in the unflavored Protein into every thing (G) Nancy

Congratulations on both the marriage and the NSV!
