The need to eat until stuffed

It's almost ALL about self-control at where you and I are post-operatively! You're not meeting your protein goals, which is devastating to weight loss and feeling satiated by your food. I've not done the best job during the holidays, and I'm in a 3 week long stall right now. I know it's because I'm not keeping my carbs down and my protein up, and I'm not tracking every bite I put into my mouth. You should be losing more/more consistently than you are, maybe a re-start with Protein shakes and then advancing yourself through the different stages to reset your diet would be helpful. And you don't mention using any Protein powder...I still have to use it to get my protein grams high enough. On a normal day, I use GENEPRO unflavored in my morning coffee, so I start off with 20-30 grams of protein in a 12 ounce mug of coffee, with monkfruit sweetener and cream. Some days I have a container of plain yogurt with a little low-carb granola mid-morning, or cottage cheese with a tablespoon of pureed fruit stirred in. Lunch, I eat a cheese stick and a couple of slices of deli turkey. I have a handful of almonds or half an apple with Peanut Butter for an afternoon snack, then 3-4 ounces of my family's dinner protein and around 1/4 cup of vegetables. And I almost always have a sugar-free popsicle before dinner. That typical day gets me about 850 cals, 95 grams protein and 50 grams of carbs, with only 21 of them being sugars. I lose when I'm eating like that...80 lbs since the end of June. You've got the tool in place, you just need to commit to using it correctly, find ways to distract yourself when you're hungry (exercise, clean house, work, garden...whatever works) and get back on track. There's literally no reason for you to NOT be successful! Go get it, you CAN do this!!

    So ready!

And completely excited! Surgery is Jan 17! I start my pre op diet Saturday which consists of 4 Protein shakes and for dinner chicken breast and veggies. I feel completely prepared. I have every kind of protein I need. Premier shakes in 4 flavors, GENEPRO powder, unjury chicken flavored powder, 3 flavors of Quest powder, the sample packets of nectar and a tub of unflavored Nectar. I have the things I will need on a bookcase so i don't have to bend or reach. Got my freezer full of stuff my son can have for dinners plus tons of Snacks for him. I have a woman from a local organization who will come check on me for the first couple days. Filled all my prescriptions and picked up a months supply of Vitamins and that antibacterial stuff you have to wash with. All that's left is wash the sheets and blankets and scrub the bathrooms! I'm ready to go!!! Sent from my Y538 using the BariatricPal App

    December 13th

Hi everyone. From what I'm reading, the stall is normal. I was down 21 lbs on 01/02/17, but on 01/09/17, I went down only a pound. I'm still on puréed foods until tomorrow. The Protein shakes that I liked in the beginning are now making me nauseous. And so is the Water, but I still drink it with crystal light. My doctor and dietician say the artificial sweetener in it is ok, but I'm wondering if they're wrong. I've never heard good things about it. Does anyone have any good soft food ideas? I, too, use the GENEPRO unflavored protein. Mix it into puréed foods. Just wondering, has anyone felt any pain in different parts of their body after losing the weight? Woke up on Sunday with my back and thighs hurting so bad that I don't think I sleep more than three hours total each night. I thought it might be Sciatica, but the pain does travel down the legs. Just stay mostly around the hips, lower back and upper thighs. Sent from my iPad using the BariatricPal App

Can I see a menu please?

There are several other brands of "clear" Protein Drinks as well... One called Protein2O and Atkins Lift. I didn't care for them, but it's an individual taste thing. I liked the Syntrax Nectars especially roadside lemonade, but found I needed to blend them in a blender and then let them sit until the foam settled, then they were OK. Also, you might try freezing some of these clear protein drinks. I got ice pop style ziploc bags from Amazon and did that with the lemonade syntrax to help get both fluids and protein down early on. You've probably already tried it, but you might have better luck with the GENEPRO if you mix it with savory stuff like bouillon or stock - I liked the chicken bouillon best. I found it didn't clump if I mixed the powder with lukewarm Water in my blender and then mixed it into the hot liquid. unjury has a protein chicken Soup that's pretty decent, but I liked my own powder mixed in bouillon better.

I have one cup, but instead of it being completely empty calories I add GENEPRO Protein powder AND a spoonful of Fiber.

Can I see a menu please?

Fairlife milk is too high in carbs for me but I do have the Carb Master milk. I do have Genepro still as well but just opening the container makes me gag. I literally can't drink or eat anything in it. I tried having my husband make me things and not tell me what had it in it. Nope, as soon as I put it in my mouth I would start gagging if the protein powder was in it. I tried a couple other ones as well aside from Genepro. Same problem.

Can I see a menu please?

Do you still have genepro and have you tried fairlife milk? Together they make a pretty decent Protein shake. I have what we jokingly refer to as "pregnancy nose" ALL THE TIME. It sucks, and makes drinking protein shakes icky because all I smell is the protein. I discover that the fairlufe chocolate covers the protein taste and smell really well and is ~200cals and 43g protein in an 8oz shake, thou I like to add 5-8oz ice to make it more shake like. Another option is bariatric food. WonderSlim is a brand I like. I will sometimes use 8 oz fairlife non fat with their creamy hot chocolate. It is also ~200 Cal's and is 30g protein. I can also hide half a serving of genepro into a container of oikios triple zero. HW 385 SW 359 CW 305 Sleeved 10/5/16

Can I see a menu please?

I think part of my issue is I can no longer tolerate Protein power or protein shakes at all. Makes me gag even at the smell, and yes I've tried many different brands including GENEPRO. I have a lot of sensory issues and this is suffering for it. I can't tolerate yogurt either due to my sensory problems. So I need to find a way to get in my calories and protein through food alone. Oh, did I mention I have a lot of food allergies too (including, but not limited to, legumes (for ex - peanuts, Beans, peas, etc), almonds, and all fish (yes all, not just seafood). *sigh* Yeah, it's difficult right now. So keep the menus coming, I need ideas. Have to get creative.

I finally got my activity tracker!

Yay! It is early in the morning here, right now, and already 2 fans are blowing. Next step, turn the air-con on .... Yes, cheese-bread with rum flavoured GENEPRO with awesome company sounds wonderful!

@@LittleBill, let's just take @@OzRoo up on her offer and soak up some sun for a change. I will bring the rum flavoured GENEPRO and some bread cheese! Nilla

Able to eat more than expected...

Do you eat eggs? I used to take 3 parts egg beaters, 1 part fairlife milk and 1 part cheese to make a soft scrambled egg. I also make my own Protein shakes using fairlife chocolate milk and GENEPRO. I blend it in my ninja with ice for a shake. It has a good chocolate flavor and covers up the genepro. I also add a tbs of PB2 for a change. Oikios triple zero is a decent high protein Greek yogurt if you can handle Greek. HW 385 SW 359 CW 305 Sleeved 10/5/16

    Pureed food stage

I just bought my first unflavored protein -- went with GENEPRO from Amazon. Still waiting on it to arrive. Hope it's good!
  13. I've been on premier Protein shakes for about three or four months. chocolate and vanilla are the only flavored available at my local costco. Both were ok preop but now I can only stand chocolate. Just ordered a 30 serving canister of GENEPRO though so I'll see how that goes Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App
  14. HERE HERE another one that doesn't LIKE Premier Protein. I had to drink it 2 weeks before my RNY and 4 weeks after. I had "the back door trots" the whole time. At my check up I was told that I was Lactose Intolerant!! Gee Thanks!! I mean it was BAD!! Also, I commend anyone that likes and can drink Isopure junk!!! I LOVE GENEPRO unflavored protein, I add it to my coffee every day. I also like Atkins products. I just wish I had found the GENEPRO a while ago. Also, like was said above your taste will more than likely change after your WLS. BEWARE of buying to much ahead.

I finally got my activity tracker!

@@mrsNilla Yes, I remember the slipping and sliding on icy streets in Norway ... especially bad in steep roads/streets going down. Had to move like a crab, sideways. Wow, GENEPRO with rum flavour .... this could be interesting @@LittleBill Hope you are wearing your thermal under-ware ..... keep warm! If I could, I would gladly send the heat to both yourself and Nilla. I am yet to install a second air-con in my West bedroom. Even with 2 fans going full blast, it is still too hot. We are having our hottest summer, and other countries are having coldest winters. Anyway, it is only a very long flight to my place, but bring the cheese-bread, and the party is on!

    Airport Security Curiosity

I am flying soon and only taking carry on. I of course need to bring Protein with me. Suggestions on how to pack my GENEPRO? I don't want to bring the entire 90 serving container. DS surgery 12/14/2016
  18. Before my surgery I liked the vanilla & strawberry Premier Protein shakes, so I bought a bunch of it for after surgery. After my surgery, I couldn't stand the taste. So I had to returned it. I like flavorless GENEPRO & I add it to SF hot coco or herbal tea.

Me either bluebird43 I have the Bariatric binder with those same products listed I think I was also allowed to have mash potatoes oatmeal less than 5 g of sugar straight cut oats of course all of the first stage was incorporated at this time oh sugar free pudding apple sauce sugar free I pushed through it and I've made it to my first week of the third stage I eat chicken salad everyday I think but only can consume 2 ounces chewed very well I eat yogurt on a daily to and mix it with my GENEPRO so I'm getting about 60-70 g of Protein in now thank god. 20. For me the premiere protein drinks are too thick and a bit chalky tasting. I prefer a few flavors of syntrax nectar and Jay Robb egg protein powder (I am lactose intolerant). I also like ideal shape protein but they are low in protein so I boost it with genepro
  21. mrsNilla

I finally got my activity tracker!

Oh I so need some heat after the freezing cold weather we have had. The snow is covering everything and the streets are so slippery. My friend flew in from FL today and I ordered a bunch of stuff for him to bring me (and yes, he volonteered). I got a message saying it's all soaked in the rum he brought for another friend... oh well, I guess GENEPRO could taste worse?!? Nilla

    Bullet Proof Coffee

I drink bulletproof coffee some of the time, I used to drink it all the time when I was trying to lose prior to the sleeve. I really like Dave Asprey. I really don't drink it often anymore because all the things I was trying to cure with bulletproof coffee, I cured just losing weight/having the sleeve. Like one of the big benefits of bulletproof coffee and how it works and benefits you is that it is pure fat and energy. WLS patients needs Protein, so you can't go pure fat. Adding Protein powder to bulletproof coffee defeats the purpose of bulletproof coffee, which is to provide you energy while extending your fast. The whole point of drinking bulletproof coffee in the morning it to extend your overnight fast until the afternoon. Helping people with 16/8 or better fasting. Having coffee with just fat has no effect on blood sugar or most metabolic functions. When you add protein powder to it and make it a Protein Drink you are erasing those benefits Early post-op I think Bulletproof coffee is too many calories and too much fat. I think it would do a real number on someone newly sleeved. MCT Oil goes right through you until you build up a tolerance with a normal GI tract. I wouldn't add that fictitious crap GENEPRO to anything. I usually just kick my day off with coffee with heavy whipping cream. I only use bulletproof coffee now, if I am fat fasting to break a long stall. If I dont get out the 190s pretty soon, I will be doing another fat fast for a few days.
  24. Prior to VSG I would have Bullet Proof coffee, does anyone still enjoy BP Coffee? I thought about adding GENEPRO to get in some of my Protein. I miss the energy and fullness I would get from the coffee. Sent from my SM-N920P using the BariatricPal App

    OVER protein shakes

Thanks. I've been using GENEPRO since the day I got home but I can taste the whey Protein and really don't like it even though it blends well (after mixing and letting it sit for 5 min). I have yet to try the Isopure. The Atkins Lift drinks gross me out so I have been apprehensive about Isopure. Also just so I don't confuse anyone, I changed my profile name from HalleJillyah to Jill_me Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App
