Things I Don't Like About Being Sleeved, What Are Yours?
Wheetsin replied to Queen of Crop's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Can I start with an I LOVE? I love that this is nothing like what I thought it would be. I really, really thought (as ink had resigned myself to accepting) that this would be fairly miserable: constant nausea or vomiting, virtually guaranteed food intolerances, etc. About 5 months in and I can eat anything, so far. That includes Pasta, rice, bread, dough, etc. Not that I eat it much or in large amounts, but I can get it down. I do still very much enjoy the freedom to eat whatever I want (though I really wouldn't complain if it were any other way). The NSAIDS are indeed back and forth. Really, the only reason we can't take them is a "just in case". They aren't inherently bad for us, but IF you do have a reaction or complication that results in an ulcer, it could be harder to treat than if you had a regular stomach. Ok so that's super simplified, but the idea is there. What I hate -- I hate not really knowing when to stop. As a general rule I under-eat my sleeve. This has also resulted in me never having hit above 650 calories in an entire day, 5 months out. I worry about that. It's no good. I'd hoped to be around 900 calories by now. My nutritionist wanted me at 900 calories 3 months ago. And from what I've been told, this may never change. I never thought I would _hate_ that I can't eat _enough_ calories. Related to the above, I do hate the hairloss. I've been through it before (previous WLS) and I'm rather used to it now... but it still sucks. If nothing else, I hate having to clean my shower drain every day. I hate what this has done to my poops. I take Fiber, and laxatives, and still have a hard time. A few times I've been able to go, only to have it "get stuck" halfway out and refuse to budge (either direction). That may be TMI for some, but it's the truth. What the heck are you supposed to do when that happens? I hate that I have pretty bad reflux, and I hate that every time I reflux, I worry about complications. Mental note: call my surgeon and talk about this. My reflux is associated with a particular sensation, and it's a sensation I also had with my band - which makes little sense. I'm wondering if I have some dismotility, or a slight stricture. My "this may never change" above is related to the amount of scar tissue I had from my band & previous surgeries, which could also be exacerbating this sensation/reflux. I hate that with my lapband I lost weight like a rockstar, and relatively 'm a total toirtoise this time around. Don't get me wrong, I think I'm going OK considering I stalled for the better part of my first 3 months post-op. But when I had lost weight so quickly before, I just had high expectations that it would happen again and accepting that it isn't going to sucks money butts. I hate that I don't know what to do with my too-big clothes. So I'm hoarding them. Because I'm also a little afraid to get rid of them (if I'd gotten rid of them the first time, I'd have been screwed when that weight came back.) I hate what my body is looking like. I'll take it over the fat -- don't get me wrong. And I'm not a vain person. But I look like a melty wax sculpture. I guess more generically, I hate that I've ALREADY destroyed my body. That I will never have my natural, tone bare skin again. That I've wrecked it, and that no matter how much weight I lose, I will never have my beautiful naked self again. Ugh I could go on. -
N E 1 been Banded at Mt. Carmel col, oh
KTBUGG replied to Lady Q T's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
URGENT ?????????? Sorry, this is gross. Ok, I was banded on the 6th. Yesterday I went pee and there was a little blood well, Today, I went poop a few times and when I was done and wiped there was dark blood on the T.P. and brighter red blood in the potty. Not just a little, the water is pure red. I called and they said it could just be a hemroid(sp) I had one a couple years ago. But, The poop was not hard at all. They said I can go to the E.R. or go to west and make an appointment. We think that is too much blood for just a hemroid. and I am having pain and cramping in my tummy and below my belly-button. I know, I am really sorry, this is gross and TMI, but, I need to know if I need to go to the E.R. or not. I don't want to go if I do not have too. but, I worry about the amount. I seem to be losing quite a bit of blood. Any Advice would be great. Thank you so much. Ps. Way to go Special. -
I just urinated for the first time since leaving the hospital and that oddly relieved the pain in one shoulder. I'm sorry if that's TMI but I'm trying to be as specific as possible about my recovery so others can compare and our prepare for their own experiences. I tried waiting 5 hrs between pain meds (rather the prescribed 4) so far I made it to 4.5. Haven't used any of the nausea meds yet I'm guessing I'll need those when I get off the Clear Liquids.

Nikki, I thought you were doing well. What's has changed for you? Are you still tracking what you eat? Sometimes it helps to go back to basics. But how much have you gained. I gain Water weight very quickly and if I don't poo (sorry TMI) I can gain more. Hugs!!!

For the past week I've felt bloated and I hadn't had a BM. Tonight at dinner I had the intense urge to buckle over, I had the worst stomach pain for about 10 minutes, so I went to the bathroom. I swear I must've eliminated at least 5lbs of waste. It's like what I had for dinner decided to kick start my bowels and get them moving again. Now I feel soo much better and the bloating is gone. This is the 2nd time that this has happened since surgery. Has anyone else experienced this?

Struggling After Gallbladder Removal :(
sid_n_reagans_mommy posted a topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Just wondering if anybody else is in my shoes... I had my gallbladder out 2 months ago. I had two emergency surgeries back-to-back (one to remove gallbladder & another to place stent). Ever since then, my guts have been WACKO! Sorry for TMI, but I have the runs on average of 3 times a week. Another thing is when I do get the urge "to go", the pains feels different then before... Like, I feel like I am going to have the runs every single time, but its not that everytime (if this makes any sense?). Anybody else? Does it get better? I know the dr said some people can be sensitive to fatty foods after losing their gallbladder, but this doesn't seem to correlate to my diet. -
I Wish Someone Had Told Me....
AbacoRaveness replied to ShouldBlittler's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
We are all different, but I had very little pain after my surgery. About three hours after I got to my room I woke up in pain... it was an overall ache type pain. My nurse said it was probably from the gas, so I got up and as soon as the gas shifted a bit I felt much better. The day after surgery I walked a mile so it couldn't have been that bad. By about day 7 I really felt some pain in my left side from the liver retraction, but it was more annoying than anything because it was the only thing still bothering. THEN, disaster struck, apparently when they intubated me, anesthesia cracked one of teeth. It got infected and festered for a week before hitting the nerve in my jaw. THAT pain was horrible! It was WAY worse than the surgery and I really broke into those pain meds! I waited four days for a root canal and they were the worst four days of my life.... luckily I was stoned out of my mind on percoset and don't really remember them Now I'm 17 days out and I still have some pain in my left side when I do silly things like bend over repeatedly to throw a ball for my dog, but now the worst part is the scabs from my incisions getting caught on my clothing (sorry if thats TMI), but those little suckers hurt when they get caught. But, seriously, if thats my biggest complaint... I'll take it! -
Has Anyone Had Their Period During Surgery?
052407 replied to fgotr121's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I actually started Monday night at around 6pm and had to be at the hospital for surgery Tuesday at 7am...talk about pissed!! They made me what their undies and their pad but when i got out of surgery i had a catheter in...go figure.....but i put in my pad and panties afterwards cause...sorry if this is tmi...i couldn't get a tampon in, i guess i was swollen in that area. -
This may be TMI, but what the heck. Ever since phasing into solids I get this nasty methane-smelling gas that fills a small room. The dog cowers in the corner. The flies drop on the table. The neighbors wonder if there is a gas leak in the neighborhood. Obama calls me to create a new clean energy company. Ok, maybe I am throwing in a little humor and hyperbole, but it is true. Do you think this is because of all the protein I have been eating? I hope it goes away eventually like hair loss because all I can think of is that old garbage pail kid card from the 80s with an atom bomb coming out of his behind. Thoughts.

1 wk post-op, issue w/ BMs & dont understand liquid intake...
TheLCSpencer posted a topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Hi all! I am one week post-op and sort of struggling. This part of post-op is so frustrating. I had a sleeve with Dr. Aceves in MexiCali. I also had a hiatal hernia repaired. In his post-op instructions he says we aren't really supposed to have more than 2 oz in 15 minutes. This is pretty hard. At first, I was taking in lots of liquid because I didn't quite understand the restriction. The first 1-2 days were actually alright. Now that I'm understanding what the foamies are (which I got twice in the first two days), I am trying to be more careful. No more than 2 oz, at all times. Also after 2 ozs I sort of feel full, so I don't try to push it. Yesterday I was pushing myself to have about 2 oz every 30 minutes and that seemed to be the best I could manage without stuffing myself full of liquid. At this rate, if I'm up for 14 hours a day, and I don't stop drinking, I will only get 28 oz of liquid--nowhere close to the 64 I'm supposed to get. Also, (TMI) my pee is a little dark, so even at this rate, I still feel dehydrated. Very frustrating. Did anyone else experience this? Does it go away so you can drink more? Second issue is that in one week I have only had one very small BM (a week ago). My reg Dr. suggest milk of magnesia. At what point should I use it? I think it's about time things start happening in that department but im afraid of getting dehydrated even more! I realize that I'm having all liquids and not much should come out, but....I had solids a week ago, and I'm pretty sure that's still somewhere in me (TMI). Any help would be appreciated! Thanks! -
Hmmm, that could be a possibility. And well, I just thought of something! You're "time of the month", could that be coming up soon? I noticed that when I was 2 weeks into the pre-op diet, mine came a whole week early, and during the 2nd week, I was worried that I was gaining weight b/c I wasn't "peeing enough". Sorry for the TMI, but I just know with me, I bloat like crazy before it hits.

Kidney Pain With Protein Shakes?
Catracks replied to joe_cltnc's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
A high protein diet can be hard on the kidneys. Check with your doctor. I don't have any symptoms except for a very high ammonia content in my urine. Sorry if TMI, but it's something to be aware of. -
Prilosec/other PPI's - length of use
thepick4u replied to Facing50's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I'm 5 weeks out and I take a 40mg capsule of Prilosec each morning. I had a hiatal hernia repair also. No trouble with heartburn ever. Since surgery I have only been nauseated one time and I think from vitamins. I am in liquids until 1/31/13. I open the capsule and empty the contents into a spoonful of Poweade zero. I have been really pleased with how good my stomach has felt though noisy. If only I could poop! TMI. Lol -
September Sleevers New Jersey
SJMusicalman103 replied to NickieLo339's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I was sleeved on Sept 11th in Camden County... I have had amazing care... I had a side effect from the operation and had to come home with a catheter... It came out 3 days after I came home... Right now I'm constipated (TMI, sorry) and trying to get relief... The second day I was home I ha HORRIBLE gas cramps... My doc told me to take GasX, drink more fluids and walk and it had worked wonders... Now I'm taking both Colace and Miralax in the hopes that it will relieve to constipation (under doctor's) orders.. I was a little discouraged a my first weigh in because I didn't lose as much as I wanted... My doc reassured me that it would come off.. My biggest piece of advice is try not to compare your weight loss to any other sleeve patient (as far as the numbers go)... Best of luck to you! -
I have no idea about costs i live in Scotland so got it on the NHS. It does have hormones in it, but at a very very small amount compared to the pill so side effects are lessened. They are also apparantly more effective and safer than the old copper coils, and have the added advantage of lessening periods rather than making them heavier. The strings hang out of your cervic, they dont come down into the vagina, as i say you can feel them but i have to squat and put your fingers up reeally far (sorry, TMI) and they are so small and tiny that they are difficult to feel. My boyfriend cant feel them. Apart from the fact i dont have a period anymore (and checking the strings every few months) i would have no awareness of having the coil in.

Has any one had issues with acute urination pain or a feeling of ongoing constipation in the front? How about having to get up 5-7 x at night to use the bathroom. I do make an effort to dry out before going to bed, but 5-7 x?? To me these sound like worse case prostate cancer and best case UTI when looking up symptoms online, but I am only 36. I have never experienced either of these before. The symptoms have gotten worse in the last few months. The pain during urination does not happen every time, but when it does, it can be felt in the tract and radiating up towards the bladder. Sorry if TMI. Trying to be as informative as possible to trigger a recognition from someone. For sure, I will set up an appointment with my PCP. Wanted to know if this could be something else or has anyone else experience with it. I have taken chia seeds daily for 4 months to help with the daily BM now plus my krill oil supplement. I have read somewhere there is a link between long term use of omegas (chia seeds are high) to p-cancer, but don't want to get excited about anything until a doctor diagnoses something. I tend to be symptomatic about a few thing since surgery which did not turn into anything (at least not yet) so trying to take this one slow. Let me know what you think. Other then this issue, I am in very good health.

So....I have found myself severely constipated.....ended up this morning in the ER, they were not much help. I took an enema this morning, it did nothing, went to er the give me a soap and Water enema, nothing but liquid......I can feel there is stuff in there that needs to come out, my legs are weak from the pain. The hospital gave m a shot of Valium to calm me, but that didn't so much either. I stopped at the store and bought prune juice, heated it up and put Mirlax in it.....so far nothing.....I'm afraid I'm going to end up back in the ER.....any suggestions?

Sigh. I can't "go" and it's getting to be a problem. Please Help.

So the herb lax I took helped significantly (if it's not TMI I had about 4-5 stools since taking it) It was gentle on my body which was what I was hoping for since it's a combo of all natural herbs. BUT My stomach is still super sore and queasy.. like it's hard to eat or drink because it makes me sickish and sore and I still dont' feel completely emptied :\ is this normal? I expected to feel back to normal after taking it but I've been feeling pretty yucky all day.
